My Macbook Pro's Keyboard and track pad keep crashing?

I've had my MBP for just over a year and I'm now finding the keyboard and track pad randomly cut off?
If I close the laptop for a minute it usually comes back but some times just cuts out completely.
I know its only the keyboard and track pad because if I plug in my wireless keyboard when the crash happens, I can carry on using the mac while the trackpad and keyboard remain out of action????
Anyone experienced this?
D

This has happened to me only once, and a close-and-reopen fixed it. Del, next time you get an external mouse and keyboard going, go to the Apple Menu, choose "About This Mac", and then click "More Info...". On the left, under "Hardware" choose "USB." There should be something to the effect of built-in or internal keyboard and trackpad. If those aren't there, it's possible that there's a poor connection to the motherboard (especially if this happens frequently). A Genius would be able to easily identify and probably fix this problem.
Whether they show up in there or not, you should probably also try the usual PRAM reset, and if that fails, the SMC reset.

  • HT1338 bluetooth keyboard and track pad keep dropping out

For the last couple of weeks my bluetooth keyboard and track pad keep dropping out on a new mini mac, I have tried reinstalling both with no luckthis combined with the new ipad 3g problems is making me think twice about apple. RIP Steve.

Make sure there is nothing that could cause interference between your computer and the bluetooth devices. This could include cordless phones, extra antennaes, satellite receivers etc.
I would also go with Barry's advice as well.

  • Macbook Pro keyboard and track pad freeze

I have tried about 15 times now to post this due to the following problem
Today my keyboard and track pad have suddenly frozen. In appears as if the OS is fine and running but I can't input any kind of key or cursor movement. I have to restart it. Is this common? It's bad news because I have work to do and I can't just get used to using the save command every 30 seconds. That's why I switched to Apple; I was sick of this and similar issues with PCs. Anyone. . . Ideas??

This happened twice to me in the last five months. I had to take it in for service; the first time, they replaced the keyboard, and the second time, they replaced the entire logic board. The problem hasn't come back so far.
If you need the computer urgently, it should work if you plug in an external keyboard and mouse. However, I think you'll probably have to take it in for service in order to get the problem fixed.

  • My MacBook keyboard and track pad stopped functioning after pairing an Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions?

My MacBook keyboard and track pad stopped functioning after pairing an Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions?

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

  • Why don't my Keyboard and track pad work after being connected to Apple Thunderbolt Display?

I've run into this several times, after closing than unhooking the thunderbolt cables with an external usb keyboard and mouse hooked to the display, the keyboard and track pad no longer work on my macbook pro. I end up having to hard boot it (holding down power button). This seems like a glaring bug since I can reproduce this often.

so far during the re installation, the trackpad has already been ignored but the USB mouse still works so I don't know whats going to happen.

  • MBP keyboard and track pad not working

Today the keyboard and track pad on our mac book pro laptop just stopped working. The mouse connected to it by usb continued to work but we can't type or anything. We tried the ^F6 keyboard shortcut but it did nothing since of course the keyboard isnt working. And it is also not the number lock key. The computer was working fine all day up until now. It is just under a year old. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. It appeared yesterday and then magically "repaired" itself. My MBP was fine today. Tonight the problem is back. No response from the keyboard and track pad. Track pad works fine using a USB mouse. My problem appears at start up. The cursor is in the usual upper left hand corner. It can't be moved. Restart, sleep then restart do not solve the problem.
    Suggestions?

    khryzpher,
your model MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test comes on one of those two grey installation DVDs; it’s an essential tool for troubleshooting. You’re going to need to contact Apple directly to purchase a replacement pair for your MacBook Pro; be sure to have its serial number handy.
Your model MacBook Pro didn’t originally come with Snow Leopard installed at the factory. If you don’t have the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, then I’d also recommend that you purchase that, in case your hard drive fails and you’d like to install Snow Leopard onto its replacement.

  • Mac boots but keyboard and track pad dead

Ok this may be a long shot, but any help is appreciated...
My sister dropped her Black MacBook. The screen is shot, however, it boots and I can use an external monitor.
The problem is that the keyboard and track pad are completely dead (except for the power button that works as it should). My question is: what are the possible problems? Could it be the topcase itself that is bad (or just the ribbon connecting it to the logic board)? Or could it be the logic board itself that is cracked?
I took the top case off (my first time doing this) and noticed that the little white connector at the end of the keyboard ribbon cable that plugs into the logic board can come off. Should that connector be able to come off?
    Thanks again for any help!

ok the macbook works great with external monitor, keyboard and mouse ...i'm using it to post this message now...
anyone else seen this issue of the keyboard not working, or have other suggestions? I would just go and get a new top case off ebay but i dont want to spend the money on the top case is it's actually the logic board...
    thanks again

  • TS2570 iMac does not recognize wifi keyboard and track pad... cursor stays in top left corner under apple ?...

iMac does not recognize wifi keyboard and track pad... cursor stays in top left corner under apple ?...

    Phillip,
I had this problem recently with a 3-year old Mac Pro intel, which was eventually replaced by Apple due to myriad other problems. When the frozen mouse happened, there was nothing I could do. Very frustrating to have the screen boot and the cursor is up there stuck, on the top left corner of the screen. Frozen. I called support several times. They were amazed. At one point they had me buy a cheap USB mouse (I was using a wireless mouse from Logitech and they thought there might be some kind of conflict). The USB mouse didn't work, either. Neither did an Apple mouse when I went out to buy one.
I ended up driving 70 miles to take the Mac to an Apple Store. I think they reinstalled the (Leopard) system in some secret way, because when the mouse was frozen so was everything else and I couldn't open the disk drive to put the OSX disk in there.
Why I'm here right now is that the same thing happened today with my NEW 3-month-old REPLACEMENT MAC PRO using its brand new wireless mouse, and I was hoping to find some insight. Again, a frozen cursor after the boot. Same top-left corner of the screen. Unlike you, when I click the mouse nothing happens -- no drop down.
Luckily, when I hard-rebooted by holding the button in, the mouse cursor came back. This time. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off. Been there done that before. Anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • Just bought a new mac mini, wireless keyboard, and track pad. My track pad will not synch. All advise I have been given is to change items in the setting menu, but I cant because I still have to get through the setup!!

The power button for the Trackpad is on the right hand end of the battery case. Press that button to initiate the pairing process. On the top of the Trackpad just above the power button is a tiny green light (you probably cannot see it unless it is lighted). That light will indicate ehther or not the Trackpad is discoverable. If the Trackpad has discoverable the green light will blink on and off. If it does not pair within 3 minutes you will have to press the power button again to re-initiate the pairing process. Once your Trackpad has paired, you can just leave it on and it will pair automatically when you reboot your Mac.
If you are having problems pairing, try turning off any other Bluetooth devices within 30 or so feet of your Mac mini. That includes other Computers, iPhones, iPads, etc. that may be in the area. Once your Trackpad has pairedwith your mini, you don't have to be concerned about other Bluetooth devices.
One other hint, I find that although the Wireless Trackpad does not eat batteries as fast as the Magic Mouse it still uses more than the Wireless Keyboard. It is a good idea to keep a supply of AA batteries around. I have used Apple's Rechargable batteries, but found they did not last that long before needing to be recharged. I have had the best battery life from Duracell Quantum batteries.

  • Mouse, Keyboard and Track pad Freezes

After upgrade to Lion everytime my iMac goes to 'Sleep', the mouse, keyboard and track pad freezes and cannot wake the computer up. After waking the computer with the power button on the back, these devices still will not response or work. I know there is a option in the Bluetooth system pref. to check 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". Make no difference to me when this is checked. Anybody have the same problem as me?

    I'm facing a very similar problem .
My MBP keyboard freezes eventually during the day - sometimes for a minute, sometimes for much more than that. Mouse continues to work just fine.
