My Macbook Pro Specs! What's my official Hardrive Capacity?

Hi,
I'm new to Macbook Pro and this Mac Forum but I can't see how else I can be helped.
I am sorry for myself that I didn't copy my MacBook Pro specs from the website when I ordered and bought it.
It's so tough to find out exactly what it is. I wonder if anyone can help me piece together which one I have.
I have the following on the invoice but I can't find it on the support version:
MBP 15.4 / 2.66 / 2X2GB / 500 / SD / GLSY-ITP
Product Number: MC373ZP/A
Ships: within 24 hours
Delivers: 08/09/2010 - 13/09/2010
I don't know how to check my specs on the MacBook Pro but I downloaded a free utility that gave me the following:
MacBook Pro (MacBookPro6,2)
Intel Core i7 @ 2660 MHz
4 GB - DDR3 @ 1067 MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
2011-01-09 23:20:40 +0800
Mac OS X 10.6.6
Intel Core i7 @ 2660 MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
4096 MB System RAM
* RAM Speed: 4896 MB/s
CPU Tests
* Floating Point Operations/Second: 143019680
* Integer Operations/Second: 273786208
* MD5 Hashes Calculated/Second: 1000304
Graphics Tests
* 3D Frames Per Second: 312
Hardware Tests
* Primary Partition Capacity: 360 GB
* Drive Write Speed: 56 MB/s
It shows I only have 360GB in my Primary Partition Capacity? BUT according to the invoice and what I thought I had bought: MBP 15.4 / 2.66 / 2X2GB / 500 / SD / GLSY-ITP
I should have 500GB hardrive isn't it?
I can't find my version on http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro ???
Thanks for all your help!

You ordered, and I expect received a 500 Gb hard drive.
There are no macs supplied with 360 Gb Hard drives.
I expect you have a 140 Gb Bootcamp partition which your utility will not see.
The clearest picture of your hard drive/partition status is in the app called "Disk Utility" in the Applications/Utilities folder.
Sizes of HD are reported by different definitions, which sometimes causes confusion, but would not explain your discrepancy.

    FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
    The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.

  • My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
    Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
    These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
    See if the issue is application-specific.
    Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
    See if the issue is user-specific.
    Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
    Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
    Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
    Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
    If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • I want to transfer all my iPhoto, iTunes, contacts, etc. files from my MacBook, which I am selling to a MacBook Pro. What is the easiest and safest method of achieving this? Can the files backed up on Time Machine be transferred to the Pro?.

    I want to transfer all my iPhoto, iTunes, contacts,documents, etc. files from my MacBook, which I am selling, to a MacBook Pro. What is the easiest and safest method of achieving this? Can the files backed up on Time Machine from the MacBook be transferred to the Pro in some way? I would like to capture the files as they appear on the MacBook, such as "Events" in iPhoto and the various song categories within iTunes without having to rename them all once saved on the Pro, which is the case with photos when I simply save them to thumb drive and import them to the Pro. Sny advice would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Rob.

    Michael,
                 Thanks for all your assistance. There is no need for apologies, Migration Assistant did indeed create a second account for the MacBook data. It has just taken me some time to figure out how to access it. I now have all the MB data in one account and the MBP files in another, which suits me fine. In fact, it is an advantage in my case as it keeps the private and business aspects separated.
    I will however try the fatcatsoftware to transfer all the iPhoto files to my iMac, where I keep my main photo library. and it will be of help to keep the events, etc in the transfer. As far as iTunes is concerned, I have HomeSharing on all my computers and this has obviated the need to worry about playlists being transferred successfully. However, HomeSharing did not appear to share the iPhone/iPod apps that were stored on the MB and although these have now come across with the new MacBook account on the MBP, I was wondering whether my iPhone and iPod will be recognised by the MBP and sync with it? Will I need to have the MB account open to achieve this or will the MBP recognise and sync with the iPhone/iPod automatically irrespective of which account is open?
    Thanks for the tip on deauthorising my iTunes account from the MB before sellng. This I will do and I believe the best way to remove all of my data from the hard drive is to reinstall the MacOSX operating system software. Is this the right approach to securely delete everything?
    Thanks again for sharing your expertise and your guidance through this exercise.
    Best regards,
    Rob.

  • What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for? How do I get to it?

    I have a MacBook Pro (2011 Model & 13") and I was wondering . . . What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for and how do I get to it?
    P.S.  I feel stupid asking this question  . . ..  . because I know those who answer will know exactly about it and what to do with it . .

    To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • Upgrading from Powerbook G4 to Macbook Pro. What to expect in HDV?

    I have Final Cut Pro 5.1
    I do alot of editing in HDV. Although editing HDV on my Powerbook in FCP is possible, it's a little slow and rendering times are a little painful. What kinds of speed/rendering improvements should I see if I purchase one of the new Macbook pros? What are some of the everyday improvements in FCP that you noticed by upgrading?

    you are in for such a treat!
    i don't have specific numbers for you, but the difference in performance of these machines is substantial
    quite apart from cpu's and clock speeds, the MBP's have also got across the board better faster components such as faster beefier gfx gpu's, SATA hard discs etc
    this year old comparison from barefeats pits a 2.0 GHz Powerbook G4 against a now very much outdated 2.0 GHz MBP Core Duo
    http://www.barefeats.com/pbcd.html
    given that the current MBP's not only have a notably faster core clock speed than the earlier models, and also the newer generation of the chipset, Core 2 Duo vs the original Core Duo is significantly faster in itself at the same clock speed

  • Would a macbook pro do what I need...

    Heya guys I need some advice. First of all English isn't my main language so I apologize in advance if some things don't make sense.
    I'm studying networking, how to be a network administrator. I'm about to finish my first semester and at first I thought I would be fine using the school's computers (i7 third gen, I thing around 3.5ghz, 16gb of ram). Problem is, a lot of people are using these computers and a lot of people are playing around with them, opening them up, messing with stuff and changing bios configuration. I've actually had a pc crash on my while I was doing a test and lost everything. After that I figure I needed my own computer so I wouldn't be dependent on their machines.
    Talking with a teacher he told me that one final project he usually gives those about to finish the program is to run around 10 virtual machines (using vmware), a combination of windows server 2008, windows 7 and linux machines and have each run independent services or act as clients, all at the same time.
    I figure I need a pretty powerful laptop to be able to do all that (>16gb ram, fast processor). I'd like to be able to last the duration of my program without having to upgrade.
    At first, since everything we are doing is on windows, I was looking for a windows laptop but every model that caught my eyes are not that stable, a lot of them, or all of them actually, have pretty major problems.  The one I was leaning towards the most has a problem where the screen turns black permanently with no solution to that problem being found yet (one person on the forum has had this problem since october now).  I've been needing a reason to switch for mac for a while now so I figured now might be a good time.
    I just need to make sure I'll be able to run those 10 virtual machines without any hiccups.  The laptop I was looking at had 32gb ram and the rMBP only has 16, will that be enough?  Some of the labs we do in class we need to be on the same local network so I would need the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.  I'd be using mainly windows at school but at home it would be mac all the way.  I think I'd rather do everything windows related using vmware rather than do a boot camp install, I've read online people having problems with drivers.
    I realise a laptop will never be as good as a desktop, but having a laptop will also mean I can do school work at home, which is a big plus as well.  I'd get a fully decked out 15inch macbook pro, with the 2.8ghz processor and 1tb disk.
    Oh and the fact that this laptop doesn't weigh 10 pounds is a big plus since I spend 3 hours in the subway and bus each day.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance

    Just visited my son and his old boss was running VM Fusion. I asked him about it:
    "Glad to help.  Also note that VMware Fusion (another similar product is VirtualBox) are not, strictly speaking, windows (or whatever) emulators.  I guess they would more appropriately be considered machine emulators.  The just create the environment into which you install a full operating system (which you have to install separately).  While my home machine is OS-X with a "VM" running windows XP, my work computer is windows 7 with a VM (VirtualBox) running Ubuntu.
    Both seem to work well."
    So that seems to work well and it was an older MacBook Pro an early 2012 15".
    There are older MBPs still being sold by Apple
    http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/
    I like these because you can easily upgrade them w/ SSD and 8 GB RAM. (OWC to 16 GB)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM
    You'll find the SSD is the most important component of the MBP as long as you're at 8 GB RAM. Very speedy.

    To gain Internet access for the MacBook Pro, you will either need your own Internet service provided by an ISP or access to another Wi-Fi network that has Internet service.
    Your MBP has a built-in wireless adapter, called an AirPort Extreme Card. This adapter is able to connect to just about any Wi-Fi network available today.
    If you opt to get your own Internet service, most ISPs will provide you as a minimum an Internet modem. Some also offer a wireless version of this device. For those that do not, you will also need an Internet router (wired or combination wired/wireless) in order for your MBP's wireless to connect.

    I just spilled water on my macbook pro? What should I do?

    Hi j,
    Shut it down, unplug it, and if it has a removable battery, remove it. After that, it becomes controversial. If possible, I believe in removing bottom cover and keyboard, then dabbing up any water that may have reached the "innards." After that, you can leave it open and point a fan at it for two days or so. Another option is to carefully position it in a bag of uncooked rice (so no rice will get inside it) and seal the bag, so the rice can absorb the water. Some people will tell you not to mess with it at all, just bring it to an Apple Store.
