My Macbook Pro turns off during start-up
About a week ago I started up my mackbook pro and it turned off after about 2 second after the start-up tone... this happened repeatedly. I found by holding down the "ECS" or "SHIFT" on start-up it boots up but then the "Are you sure you want to shut down this computer" window appears repeatedly, even when I click cancel. If I don't click canel within about 2 seconds, the computer turns off anyway.
I left it for a day or two and then tried starting it up again... it started up fine...??? I updated the OS from Lion to Mavericks as I needed the new version of Keynote.
Another day or two later... it was tuning itself off again on startup and once booted...???
Now I am here online trying to find some answers and have reset the PRAM... its still turning off. I left it for about 5 mins while typing this discussion in and it booted OK again and is still running.
Any suggestions?
danyog1,
if it works for you in Safe mode, then that suggests that something that runs at startup in normal mode could be the problem. Download and install EtreCheck, and please open your own discussion and include in your initial post there the output from a run of EtreCheck.

Cleaned files and apps with "app cleaner" and now MacBook Air turns off during start up. What happens? What can I do? Please help
The "app cleaner" managed to do bad things to the file system so that it is unable to boot any longer.
This is the primary reason I always recommend that any of those so called "cleanup" apps never be used. They do more harm then good.
Try a safe boot by holding down the shifgr key when you hear the boot chime. Maybe that can fix the damage.
Let us know what happens.

MacBook Pro turns off during boot?
This is kind of a long story.
I have a 13-inch, Mid-2010 MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks. I was using it near a bathtub, when a moderate amount of water spilled onto the keyboard. I immediately dabbed out most of it, and put it upside down for some time. It was running then, with all the keys and trackpad working fine. t turned it off, and tired turning it on after half an hour. Nothing. I decided to keep it switched off for 7 days, during which I would open the lid every now and then to find vapor on the screen from the keyboard which I would wipe and close again. I turned it on when there was no vapor spotted for 3 days. I plugged it in after 7 days, to see that the battery status indicator was erratic. It turned on with a sound from the SuperDrive (the usual click). There was no startup chime. A few minutes later, it turned off. I decided to reset the PRAM and SMC, and I realized that I can get to my account window successfully (and type a 22 letter password) as long as I keep any key pressed throughout bootup (option, command key, etc). I have tried many times, but it just turns off with a "nik" sound. I haven't backed up, and I have about 270 GB of important data stored that I CANNOT lose.
If it helps, it's 250GB drive crashed in December but it was replaced with a 500 GB and has been running smooth until this.
Please help me! Any advice at all is extremely appreciated. Thank you!Ishaan.3108 wrote:

Take the HDD out of the MBP and install it in an enclosure. Connect it to another Mac and see if you have access to the HDD. If so, copy what ever files that are important to you to another HDD.
Then you can take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation. Prepare your self for unfavorable news.

MacBook is turns off during start up?
My MacBook Pro was running sluggishly and thinking a lot. There was plenty if storage space on it so not the problem.
I validated the disk and was then told to repair disc. After running this utility it says that it can't repair it and to backup and restore but now, on restarting the laptop it doesn't get past start up mode - the apple comes up and a gear turns underneath with a bar that fills to just about half way and then the laptop turns itself off!??
Any help greatly received!
RRIf a safe boot does not help, I would suggest installing a new HDD and installing the OS and then see if you can access your old HDD via USB.

If you provide the EXACT model MBP you have and OS, more details may be forthcoming.

My late 2012 MacBook Pro turns off at start screen
I Just got the display replaced on my late 2012 MacBook Pro and when I turn it on, a white screen shows up with a grey apple logo and a loading bar underneath. When the bar fills up about an inch, a gear circle shows up for a few seconda and my computer shuts off. Could anyone help me with this please?
Hello TUTBUR,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your MacBook Pro. If you are unable to boot past the grey Apple screen, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Macbook Pro turns off during OS install
I have been given a 1st gen MacBook Pro to upgrade (clean install of Snow Leopard and a few apps). Specs are 2.16GHz with 2GB RAM and a (non-standard) 640GB drive. It is second hand so I don't know the history of it. After booting from SL DVD and starting the install (format drive first) the laptop turned off after a few minutes. Repeated process and same result and also tried a Leopard install DVD with the same result.
Any ideas? Never seen or heard of this ever happening to a machine short of having a power failure! The battery is fine and it will boot and run normally from an external drive.
Any help appriciated.
Cheers, PaulTry a new internal drive.

MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.
MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on. Battery had 41% just before this happened and green indicator on power cord is showing, so it seems like it's charging. What should I do?
The led on the power adapter should be amber if it is charging. Green just indicates that it is supplying power to the MBP.
Try a SMC reset:

without entering SafeSleep. only one time it worked on 10.6.4

This is a current sensor on the power bus. This seems consistent with your symptoms.
A faulty sensor on the logic board means the board has to be replaced, take in for repair:

Macbook pro turns off when i unpliug
macbook pro turns off when i unpliug
You either need to plug in your charger and if that isn't working if your machine is less than a year old take it in to your nearst Apple Store and let them deal with it. Or if you are out of warrantee you will need to get a new battery for your Mac

My MacBook Pro shuts off during startup
When startup the apple logo appears, a spinning gear, and a bar partily filled(10%)
The bar disappears then reappears and disappears when the bar disappears the MacBook Pro shut off
(Haven't updated macbook since bought in 2011)Yimajatl,
boot your MacBook Pro from your grey Mac OS Install DVD. When the desktop appears, select Utilities from the menu bar, and then select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Are you able to reach your login screen now? -
MacBook keeps turning off on start up
My problems started when I kept getting this Hal.dll error msg on starting up my MacBook pro, which I understand is a windows file since I at one time needed windows XP on my MacBook to run a certain program.
When I realized I no longer needed Windows, I started (foolishly?) deleting any and all windows files I saw in my applications folder. I Now realize that probably wasnt a good idea. Ever since doing that, i'd get the above error message when I turned my comp on.
I finally got past this by restarting in safe mode. This worked ONCE, when my ext drive wasn't handy.
When I tried restarting again in safe mode later at home, the computer now keeps turning itself off !!!
Now I get the apple icon, the spinning wheel, the status bar slowly filling, and then it all disappears and the screen goes black and the computer turns off.
I have tried numerous times with power + shift (safe), power + option (which shows me the mac hd volume, but when I select it will still turn off), power + option+D, and power + shift +s > fsck -fy > reboot and after all of these attempts the computer still just turns off.
At this pt I just want to get that desktop back one more time to make sure I have the files I want on my ext drive and move on.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice on how to could get past the computer always turning off on me on start up?This sounds like the same thing that has been happening to both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Some others sound like they have similar problems. This is what I posted in the Macbook Pro area regarding the same symptoms. This is discouraging. These computers are expensive and they should have the bugs worked out better than this.

I wonder if I have similar problems. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and a Macbook 13"
1st my macbook started shutting itself off unexpectedly. It got more and more frequent. I have done several fixes including: archive and install, sending it in to have a logic board replaced, downloading an updated disc utility repair, and sending it in to have a power component replaced. Now I will be sending it in for a third time and I think they will replace the Macbook machine if this repair doesn't work.
Now my Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had it for about 6 months and it was running fine until now. I ran the exact same software on my 12 G-4 powerbook without any problems. One of the computer people at work said it sounds like a power problem. It happens whether it is running AC or on battery power and doesnt seem to matter what I am doing.
I am waiting for the macbook to be fixed before I address the Macbook Pro because I dont want to have both of my computers in the shop at the same time.
Any suggestions? This seems totally unacceptable for two new expensive computers. -
Macbook Pro turns off suddenly
Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 13" and since I upgraded to Lion sometimes I recieve a message saying something like this:
"You need to turn off your computer. Hold down the power button..." and I can't do anything but restart my Mac.
I already did a disk repair and my HD is ok, updated my Lion to latest version. What should I do?This is the kernel log of today, about 1 hour ago since I started to use my macbook.
