My Macbook pro will not read cd's

Hello , About two weeks ago my macbook pro's optical cd drive just stopped reading cd's .
It can be selective on certain Audio cd's but for the most part will accept cd into drive and
just spits it back out . I can't even Burn Cd's ..........Any Suggestions ?

I am having a similar problem.
Mine is a Mid-2009 model that I bought used on Craigslist... and now I notice the problems.
If I insert a commercial DVD, it spits it out after about 10 seconds. If I insert a burned DVD, it asks me if I'd like to write something to it.

My Macbook Pro will not read CD's. They have data on them, but they open up as blank CD's when I insert them into the drive. I know that they are not blank because on another Macbook Pro, they open up just fine. Some CD's will work while others will not. Why would a CD open on another Mac that is just the same?

  • My new macbook pro will not read a pc disk

A DVD-r generated on a PC of unknown type and model was given to me. My Mac will not read it, but other PCs will. I am in the wilderness here physically and I really need to read this disk. My MBP is fully up to date with OS 10.6.8 The internal drive can read other DVDs just fine. I insert the DVD and my computer reads it as blank. Can you help? I thought MBPs could read anything. Silly me

Chances are that the disc was burned without finalizing it on the PC, which is essential for a Mac to be able to read it. If that wasn't done, there's no way you can access its contents. This is not a result of the machine on which it was burned, it's a user error. Request another copy of the disc that has been finalized properly.

  • Macbook Pro will not read my discs

    Hey guys,
I have a 2009 macbook pro and it sort of has a problem. Whenever i put in a Cd with data that i need to install for school the cd is recognized however when i click on the disc icon there is nothing displayed on the disc. When i put the disc into my girlfriends imac, it has all the files on the disc. This is happening with multiple discs i need to install.
    Any ideas?

  • The dvd drive in my macbook pro will not read any disk.

The dvd is a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868.   The disks (CD or DVD) all show up as blank disks. Some will not eject.  Some will try to run.  I can hear it try to access the disk but it never gets up to speed. Is there some way to check the drive to see what the problem is?

It's probable that you have a bad DVD drive.  You can take it to an Apple Genius to see if they can fix or repair it (if it's under warranty).  If it isn't, you can replace the DVD drive with a hard drive or a new Super Drive by yourself (it's a tiny bit technical).  If you're still on warranty or have the extended AppleCare, you can get it fixed.

  • MacBook Pro will not read files on Lacie External HD

Yesterday I had a heck of a time getting my macbook to even see my Lacie HD.  I downloaded a new driver installed in and it worked well.  Everything was running perfectly.  I ejected the HD and finished my day.
Today my Macbook sees my HD but when I click on it to access the files none are inside.  It just gives me the option to autorun.  Which also doesn't work.
Can anyone give me some help with this?
    Thank you in advance.

  • My new MacBook Pro will not read my OSX disk.

So far everything has been working great on this computer until I reached this problem. Other CD's seem to be read just fine except for the CD's that came with my computer.
    Questions.
    1. What can I do? Will Apple give me new ones for free?
    2. Is there something wrong with my computer?
    3. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks for the info and insights.

Yeah it sounds like the disk is grinding or rubbing on something. However when I try a different CD there is nothing. Only with the disks that came with the computer do I have this problem.

  • My 2012 Macbook Pro will not read dvds or cds.

It just spins around and ejects it. Its been doing this ever since I played Wreck it Ralph on it. Ralph wrecked it

    Hi Ally,
You could purchase a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit, or you can try with materials you may already have on hand. Use a credit card, or something similar, and wrap it with an LCD cleaning cloth type product (basically a thin micro-fiber type cloth). Gently slide the "cleaner" in and out a few times in the left side of the optical drive opening. Make sure you can hold onto the cloth so it doesn't get stuck inside the drive. This cleans the lens, which may be all you need.
For temporary use, try holding the MBP upside down. If there's a gap between the disc and the lens even a tiny bit larger than it should be, holding everything upside down may bring the disc close
enough for the lens to read it. https://discussions.apple.com/message/15364924#15364924

  • My MacBook Pro will no read any of my CDs and just goes and spits it back out. Help me?

My MacBook Pro will not read my CDs and spits them right back out. Any help?

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the  System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.
