My MacBook Pro with retina display got extremely hot while closed an in a carrying case

I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina display.  I left my house at approxomately 6 p.m and I took my macbook pro with me.  I put it in a protective Incase sleeve which I put in my messenger bag.  When I got to my final destination about 1 hour and 40 mintutes later when I went to retrieve my macbok the entire messenger bag was hot.  When I went to get the macbook out of the sleeve the actual computer was so hot I could barely touch it.  I could even smell the computer (you know that new comptuter smell) standing a few feet away from it in a cafe that his good ventilation.  When I left my house the battery was at 100% charge.  When I discovered the computer in this state I had to hold down the power button to get it to start.  When i logged in the battery was at 47%.  I discovered that I left iphoto, chrome and microsoft word open.  Should I be concerned?  The machine was so hot that I can not imagine that if this turns into a reoccuring issue that it won't damage the computer.  I wonder what would of happened had I not discovered it.

When it gets to a certain temperatue it would have gone into thermal shutdown, from your scenario it looks like your machine failed to enter sleep mode or power nap due to some applications that was holding it up.
as this machine was inside a sleeve and still running the machine couldn't dissipate the heat and ramped up the fans to attempt to cool itself hence the battery drain.

Why my Mac Pro with retina display is become hot while on charging

Yes. Don't cover the Mac with cases or "skins" or use keyboard covers, since they impede proper heat dissipation. Its entire case serves as a heat sink.
If you are concerned contact AppleCare. A Mac should never become so hot you can't hold it.

  • The quality of built-in camera on macbook pro with retina display is far worse than any other mac. Why?

I just got the new macbook pro with retina display like a week ago and I've been noticing that the quality of the built-in camera on it is so bad.
It's even worse than my 2009 iMac or my sister's 2012 13" macbook pro. I don't get why this is a facetime HD built-in camera when i can obviously see that is not even near HD. Or is it just my computer. Do i have to bring it to the apple store??

it's advertised 720p so yes it is the same as all the other MBP.  it may just be the resolution of your monitor is stretching the pixels.  Don't worry about bringing it to the apple store.

  • Installing Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on a Late 2013 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. (Top Spec)

    All,
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display. I am using the .iso file/USB stick method of installation because I don't have access to my original Windows 7 DVD. I have the top specification model with all of the max upgrades. The problem I am having is when I get to actual installation of the Windows 7 software, it can't find the drivers I need to complete the installation. Any tips or suggestions?

I thought about doing what you said above, but unfortunately, I didn't have any spare blank DVD's. However, I was able to sucessfully install Windows & on my Mac. What I did was when I got to the error message, I would cancel the installation and that would return me back to the install now window. At that point, I would take out the flash drive and put it into another USB port. It took a few times, but eventually it recognized the drivers and allowed me to install the software. Remember, once you get past that point, the installation will ask you to choose a drive to install Windows on. Highlight the Boot Camp drive and chose "advanced", and then chose "format" after that. After all of this, it should be smooth sailing.

  • MacBook Pro with Retina display to imac

    Hi
Can i connect a MacBook Pro with Retina display to a mid 2010 imac 27"    ?    in ANY way?     to use as a second screen... HDMI to mini display.. ive a feeling  i know the answer but its worth asking.....
    thanks!

Ha, "their" my teenagers would certainly point that out.
"true to say the imac isn't the most upgrade friendly"
Well it's just taking that front glass and the LCD off. The earlier ones had the hidden latches and the special tool to release it. "Took quite a technique to remove it. I just did one where someone had just broken the latch and glued it back.
"i just replaced the dvd drive, i could never go back to mechanical."
That's for sure. As soon as I put my first SSD in this early 2011 MBP 13" I realized that there was a reason why all the Airs could get buy with just 2 or 4 GB RAM.
    "currently budget isn't an issue"
    That must be nice.
"this is testament to apple - there is no way a pc would have held up this well,"
Yes, I'm still using a 20" and 2 22" ADC Apple Cinema Monitors on my workbench w/ a 2002 Power Mac MDD G4, a 2011 Mini i5 and a 2006 iMac. There's a working SE and IIfx in the closet.
    " initial pain of purchase"
Yup that IIfx originally cost $9,900 in 1990. I got it for half price!
There's a 27" iMac for sale here in the NW. I'm looking at it to replace the Core 2 Duo.
"imac is still a great machine with a georgeous screen"
Yup until last year I administered 88 PCs at a charter school. I found looking at those displays and jittery windows all day long really irritating. Of course I'd try to "2 finger scroll" and use "Gestures" to move to a new desktop until I remembered "Oh right, PC, crap."
Good luck and thanks for the checkmark.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display to HDTV, How?

Hey , okay so i have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display i got it not too long ago. I'm looking to hook it up to my HDTV, i have a Samsung TV not 3D and i just wanted to know what cables and such i'll need to help me display what's on my Mac to my tv. I want to be able to use Netflix, HBO GO, etc from my computer and display it over the tv. Even thou i already have it on my 360, i just want the option. Thanks anyways.

We have two Samsung tvs...one is a smart tv and the orher is not but they are both LED.  I hook up my ipad to both TV's with an hdmi cable.   Did you try all the hdmi ports available?  Also, did you change the source on your remote control to the proper input?

  • Screen burn-in/ghosting on MacBook Pro with Retina Display

I have had my 15 inch MacBook Pro with retina display for a little over a year now I and I have started to notice that when I am on a mostly white webpage for a few minutes, and then switch to a darker page, there is an obvious screen burn-in/ghosting.  Is this something that can be fixed?  It's not accidentaly damage, it's a manufacturing problem.
My warranty recently expired.  Will I have to pay for repair costs even though this is Apple's fault and not mine? If so, how much could I expect to pay? Is there any way to extend my warranty? How much does that cost?

Just got my second MBPR 13, and it cames again with the not welcome and clear "feature" of IR
When I try to check for the display model with he command
    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
    I got this output
    @.`0 6
    Color LCD
Later I checked it in the colorSync utility
    Manufacturer: 00000610
    Model: 0000A020
    Manufacture Date:CD238700
Not sure if its Samsung or LG, but honestly I dont care, I just want a not faulty display in my new expensive laptop.
Now Im thinking to return it again and Im really paste after waiting for almost a month to receive this second and also defective laptop (I bought it in the online store, 1TB, 16RAM, I7).
Should I return it again? Im thinking that even if the 14 days expires, since I have the waranty, they fix it anytime within the 3 years apple care waranty.
    Should I play the lotery?

  • What exactly does the AppleCare cover for MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I purchased the extended protection plan for my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" and my question is what exactly does it cover in what kind of situations (i.e. viruses, damaged ports, damaged charger, etc.)? I want to be able to take full advantage of the protection plan since it was a pretty big whole in my wallet.

AppleCare covers all the problems you have with your MacBook Pro with Retina display and the peripherals which came with it (your charger) if you have a hardware problem that you didn't cause. For example, after 2 or 3 years and 1000 charges, OS X says that your battery has to be replaced: in this case, you have to pay for the battery, because batteries have got a lifetime, and Unibody Macs batteries have got an average lifetime of about 1000 charges.
However, if the RAM gets damaged and you haven't done anything to cause it, you will get your computer repaired or replaced for free. AppleCare in a MacBook Pro with Retina display is very important, because near all the parts are soldered into the logic board and repairs are expensive

  • 15 inch Macbook pro w/o retina display or 13 inch Macbook pro with retina display?

Want to get a macbook for university. Going to be used primarily for work and casual use. Have a 32inch full hd tv to connect up to for watching movies etc, which is the better choice?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I recommend a non-Retina MacBook Pro unless you need the Retina display. MacBooks Pro with Retina display are very limited and you can't replace anything if you don't want to void warranty. Also, repairs are more expensive, so purchase AppleCare for your MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Go for the 15-inch MacBook Pro if you need good GPU performance. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has got an Intel HD Graphics 4000 as the graphic card, and it's not supported in Adobe apps, for example. Also, apps that require GPU performance won't work properly.
If you are not going to do any heavy task, the 13-inch MacBook Pro should work

  • I buy the new macbook pro with retina display next week ... is it normal if i dont have my invoice ? (by mail) ? maybe 4 to 5 day i buy it

The 30 October i buy a macbook pro with retina display (On Apple store)
And it's suppose to receive a invoice by Email but i don't have anything ??
    Thanks

In all the cases I have seen of users who buy a MacBook Pro, they come charged, maybe not fully, but a bit to run Setup Assistant.
If I were you, I would carry on using the MacBook Pro unless you find it has got a problem. If it does not work properly, return your MacBook.
You may want to erase the hard drive first, so hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start up in OS X Recovery, open Disk Utility and erase Macintosh HD > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU2.html Choose one of the secure erase options to make sure your data is unrecoverable.
Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. When the reinstall finishes, turn off your computer and return it

  • Transfer iWork '09 to new MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I want to transfer Pages, Keynote, and Numbers from my old MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.2, to a new 13 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display which is also running on 10.8.2. The problem is, I got iWork from the disc and it's already maxed out on it's uses. So... I tried to transfer from a Time Machine backup, but when I went to Migration Assistant, it didn't read My Passport for Mac, even though my computer read it on Finder. Why isn't that working? Also, I know I would have to transfer the Applications folder, but will there be duplicates, like 2 iPhotos or 2 iTunes? Lastly... is there anyway to just transfer iWork? I already tried Aiddropping and just dragging it from a Time Machine backup into my applications folder, but it says that I'm not authorized, or something like that.
    Thanks!

I'm sure if you go to the Apple Store and explain that you're no longer using iwork on your old Macbook (are you?) they'll give you a copy of iWork. If you are using iWork on your old macbook pro, then explain that if you had have bought them on the app store, you'd be able to use more copies. Hopefully an employee will sort it out!

  • 13" Haswell MacBook Pro with Retina Display overheats and speakers fail.

I have the new 13" Haswell MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Have had it for a week and a half now and ever since I got it the speakers have failed completely many times. They start to crackle then stop completely. The speakers just don't respond. I have tried turning my volume all the way up, playing a song and nothing works. I have to restart or shut down the computer before it works again. My other concern is that the computer overheats too much. I am streaming Netflix or watching a YouTube video and it gets really hot. I am afraid of setting my house on fire if I dare to download a game on the MacBook. I am really concerned about the speakers more than the overheating. Is anyone else having this problem or do I just have a bad device? I think I might return it. Please help.

Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook Pro in to an Apple retail store or service provider.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display 128 GB Flash Storage. Will it hold 28 days of music?

I just got the lowest level of Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I have a lot of music, that I would ideally like to transfer to my new laptop, but I have had trouble understanding whether or not it would fit. I don't know if it will. I have about 28 days worth of music. Can I transfer my library without messing my new computer up?

Open iTunes and display your music library. In the iTunes status bar at the bottom of the window you should see what you wish to know. Or you can simply select your /Home/Music/ folder then Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window where the size of the folder willl be displayed in the upper panel.
