My Macbook Pro won't charge or start up

One of our users was using her laptop and it went to black screen.  She didn't notice if it was charging or not, but I have tried other chargers and it doesn't seem to be charging.

  • My macbook pro won't charge due to an electric shock

My macbook pro won't charge due to an electric shock that was caused from a charger that was in a bad condition, the computer didn't turn off when it happened but it stopped charging. When the battery died it refused to charge with any charger, I even bought 2 new ones. I sent it to apple and they are asking $650 for fixing it! The problem is that the macbook is only a year and a half old and I live abroad where there is no apple branches or any of that. I had to send it to the USA first. Also, I might lose everything saved on the macbook after fixing it! Any solutions? please help!

  • My Macbook Pro won't charge when it's on, only charges VERY slowly when it is shutdown

My Macbook Pro won't charge when it's on. It only charges VERY slowly when it is shutdown. Recently when it was charging shutdown, I could not get it to turn on. The only way it turned on was by removing the charger from the Macbook Pro. This only happene one time but still wondering what is going on with this battery.
    Thanks for the help!

First see the MagSafe troubleshooting tips:Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters and check to see that all looks ok.  You might want to try using another charger in case the charger is faulty.  If that doesn't help, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test the system to see where the fault is.

  • Brand New Macbook Pro Won't charge

I recently joined the Mac world, and purchased my first Mac, a Macbook Pro. I have had it less than 3 weeks and the battery won't charge. I have called the support line, several times and they had me take the battery out put it back in press 4 keys and restart worked a couple of times, but I had to do everytime I shut my computer down, not fun at all. Finally they sent me a new battery and that one doesn't charge either. I'm kind of frustrated with the entire process, I was thrilled to be advancing in the technology world but now am very disappointed with the service to help get this issues resolved. So now I have a product I can't use, brand spanking new laptop collecting dust, and the only solution they have for me is to drive 100 miles to an apple certified dealer to have them look at it, only open Mon - Fri. So know I have to take off work, drive way out my way to have someone look at my computer. But the catch is they might charge me even though I purchased the extended 3 year apple warranty. So know I'm back to using my PC. My thrill is gone. All I want is to use my laptop, and experience the Mac way, does anyone have any solutions. So far my experience with mac support is not too thrilling what's the purpose of purchasing the warranty and I recieve no help on their end. HELP?

that doesn't make any sense.... you have a 3 year warranty... they can't charge you... thats the point of the warranty!!
you don't have to drive out to drop your laptop off.... call apple care and they will send you a box in the mail so then you can put your laptop in it and send it back to them so they can repair what they need to repair.... you said that you can't use it anyways so i guess it wouldn't matter that you would be out a laptop for a few weeks....
I wouldn't let them say they cannot do anything for you, thats just ridiculous, you paid good money for your computer as well as a warranty... be persistent.

  • My MacBook Pro won't charge when I plug it in. the green or orange light won't even turn on. The computer is dead already, so I cannot mess with my settings. What do you suggest?

I have a Mac Book Pro with the serial number: C0*******TY3 and the model no: A1278. I wanted to charge it this morning, and it won't charge meaning that the light even won't turn on, and also my computer is dead, so I cannot change anything on the system preferences. What should I do? I will make an appointment at the Genius Bar, but what do you thing the problem is here?

  • My wall charger for my macbook pro won't charge, if a get a new one do i have to pay or it has insurance?

My MacBook Pro charger is not charging, i think i pull the charger to hard and broke. Does the charger have insurance or do i have to buy a new one. I've been having my Mac since March 2011.

If you don't have AppleCare, then your warranty has expired and you'll just have to buy a new MagSafe power adapter.

  • Macbook pro won't go past start up screen

i started up my macbook pro today and it opened but couldn't scroll with the trackpad. force quitted (start button) it and then tried to start up again. this time i didn't get past the start up screen (with the apple logo and spinning timer). i then tried to reset pram (cmd+option+p+r), safe mode and a number of other possibilities to no avail. next step was using the instal disc and running disc permissions + repair. again to no avail. i even tried the terminal and tried fixing the disc repair report that it was a invalid sibling link. here's a link to the procedures; http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20070204093925888. i got the message from terminal that the disc is corrupted and i've now run out of tricks/options to get my macbook pro up and running. has anyone here in the community know any other avenues i could travel down. all help of course would be much appreciated. the computer affected is my new 13 inch 2.3 ghz i5 macbook pro.
    cheers, Jan

instal disc and running disc permissions + repair.
You need to boot from the install disc and run Disk Utility to verify and if necessary, repair the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

  • My MacBook pro won't charge and I have a flashing green light?

I have not used my MacBook for a couple of days n today realised it needed charging when I come to use it so I plugged it in. I get a green flashing light but it won't charge, what seems to be the problem? I have only had it since April so can't see it being the mac is it the charger itself? Please help!

Do a SMC and a PRAM reset, if that doesn't resolve the issues, look at the MagSafe links.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
If all that fails, then take it in.

  • My MacBook Pro won't charge.

I have a macbook pro and so does my sister, so when my charger wouldn't work, I tried hers. Her charger didn't work either. Next, I tried my mom'a MacBook air's charger and it worked! Why is this? When I replace my charger should I get the same kind as my mom or the one that goes with a pro? When I would plug my sister's charger and my charger into my laptop, 1 out of 10 times it would turn green then orange and stop charging. The the other 9 times, it wouldn't charge at all. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How do I fix it? Is it my computer or the charger?

    Hello Iamthe_walrus,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Before determining whether you need to get a new charger, please reset your SMC by following the steps in the article below.

  • MacBook Pro won't charge no green light

Hi, my MacBook Pro suddenly just stopped charging. A few hours ago it was working fine. I leave it plugged in while I play games because it drains my battery so quick and then I noticed it wasn't charging. The green light is not on and I've tried switching outlets and still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I bring it to the apple store? The laptop is about 1.5 years old.

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion), then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information from the top of the page back here.

if the battery can be removed from your mac do the following to perform the SMC reset:
remove the battery from the macbook
remove the power cord from it
hold down the power button on the mac for 5 seconds
put the battery back in and plug back in and see if it will start up, if not you need to get a new battery for the macbook

  • MacBook Air won't charge or start.

Adapter doesn't show a light at all. Nearest service center and/or Apple store is 45 minutes away. The computer fell about 2 feet last night, but was working fine until the battery died. Trying to determine if it just needs a new adapter, or if I need to make a drive.
