My macbook pro wont power up, light flashes if i hold power button continuously

my macbook pro won't power up, if i hold power button down continuously i get a flashing light (by the clasp), i'm thinking this is probably a hard drive issue.  anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Hi je339999,
Exactly which model is your MacBook Pro? The problem you're having sounds similar to what is mentioned here -http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, it's possible that it's something else as well. Are you near an Apple Store or Apple Certified Service Center? It's probably worth it at this point to bring it for additional triage.

  • Macbook Pro wont power on... at all

    Macbook Pro mid-2010 model.
Epic fail of spilling something across my Macbook... it immediately turned off followed by me immediately removing the AC adapter and flipping it upside down. Waited 30 mins... powered it on... it booted and seemed ok. Powered back off... left it upside down to make sure all liquids were dry/drained. Tried again an hour later to power it on... black screen and a beep every 5 seconds. Tried again 2 hours later to power on and absolutely nothing. Battery indicator shows nothing... plug in AC adapter and try to power on and still NOTHING.
Is there ANYTHING I can do here that doesn't involve logic board replacement/entire macbook replacement? It powered on once... why not anymore?
    This ***** horribly.

If you really want to dry it out good without disassembly get a plastic container that will hold your MBP and some fresh dry uncooked (not instant) rice. Place about an inch of rice a natural dessicant on the bottom and then a paper towel on top of the rice and your MBP on top of that. Then place a snug fitting lid on the container, tape it if you must it needs to be air tight. Let it sit for a few days or more and then boot the machine. As long as you spilled "clean" water you should be fine if it was anything else the damage can be much worse.Good Luck.

  • My MacBook pro's power button won't work.

So my MacBook pros power button wouldn't work, there fore I couldn't switch the notebook off, which I need to do to try and get access to my houses wifi, which strangely wouldn't connect although would t my iPad and iPhone. So I turned the laptop off through the keyboard short cut and now when I try to turn it back on, the button won't work. The laptop was running perfectly fine (appart from the Internet connection) it was charging great and should be duly charged at the minute, i just can't find a way to turn it om, is there anyway other than the button? And what could be wrong with the button itself, as I'm clueless.

System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click > Secondary click
Make sure that "Secondary click" is enabled.
Click the  black downward arrow to get the pop-up and pick your choice.
    Best.

  • Macbook Pro wont power up/ turn

last night the sound went off on the computer so I shut it down. It wouldn't start, then the apple came on the screen and then the screen went blank. Now it wont start at all - nightmare

If SMC and PRAM resets do not put life back into the MBP, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a Free evaluation.

  • The screen on my macbook pro wont stay at a steady lighting

at random moments the screen saver on my macbook pro wont stay at a steady lightening. From time to time the lighting will turn birght and then it wil dim, randomly.
my first instinct is that someting might be wrong with the hardware, however, i've told to reset my power center.
How do you reset the power center on a macbook pro?

Go to system perferences ,then click display and check if ur on auto ajust brightness this make screens changing due to lighting background,u might want to turn this off,ur decision.......or check ur energy saver beside display u might have very short settings,u can adjust both computer sleep or display sleep or in window u can see say slightly dim the display while on battery power,u might want to put this tick out....u hav selection of choices.....

  • Macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart.

macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart

Sorry I said sorta wrong. I can shut down and I can update to the point of restart but it just sat for 45 minutes after an update. It goes through the update and to restart then the bars chase each other in a circle and it never restarts. So I hit the power button and go through normal reboot but loosing the update in the process. It does not matter how long I wait for a natural reboot after an update or click to restart it will chase the little bar in circles all day literally and never reboot.

  • New macbook pro wont accept password

I moved everything over from my i5 MBP to a new i7 via utilities migration assistant. However the new macbook pro wont accept my password, nor will it recognise the other user account passwords. Works fine on the i5.
In Disc Utilities, change password asks me to select an image, but does not light up "change" when I select user.
    Any ideas?

Is you new MBP the 2010 model or is it a newer model running Mountain Lion?
If it's a newer model running ML, you can simply boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting) and when you get to the Recovery window, select Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type
    resetpassword
and hit Return. A small app will open that will allow you to change the password for the user that you select. Then just reboot and use the new password.
If, indeed, you're running 10.6.4, you'll need the installation disc to use the Reset password utility.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook pro wont shutdown

    macbook pro wont shutdown

Holding the power button for 10+ seconds should shut it down.  But that stops all processes, including active read/write activity, mid-step.  Yuor system may not restart because the OS (not the disk drive itself) could be corrupted.
Try option-command-esc to bring up a list of application to force-quit, that way only certain applications are forcibly stopped instead og the entire OS.

  • My macbook pro wont do anything and it is just blowing air out the back

my macbook pro wont do anything it is using its fan rapidly

Try Reseting the PRAM, It should fix the Problem.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • HT3964 MacBook Pro beeps and vertical lights on screen

MacBook Pro 2years old vertical lights come on beeps then I have to restart  anyone help please

Try resetting your PRAM. If that doesn't work, you may need to get it looked at. It could be a power supply or hard drive issue.

Hi Martin, thanks for your response, I'll have a good read through that article. Just to fire some more facts at you:
My superdrive has been playing up intermittently for a while. Sometime it wont read the content on CDs / DVDs - usually copied / PC & Mac written discs, not commercial ones. However I haven't been trying to read and discs when the problems have happened.
I upgraded my hard drive from a 320Gb to a 500Gb disc about 6 months ago and the switch was done by a competent Apple Authorized Service Provider. For a few weeks after the new drive had been installed there were a few occasions where the disc was making some noise, like a clicking noise. This would start and go on for a minute or so then seem to dye down and stop. It happened a total of about 10-15 times but when I reported this to the person that fitted my new hard drive he assured me he felt it was unlikely to cause a problem. he did say that if it went on to be an issue they would replace the drive of course. Like I said this was all done about 6 months ago and the clicking noises only happened a handful of times in the first month or so after the install and it did have one bad crash in this time but since then it has been fine.
I just wondered if you thought either of the above might be a cause of the issue?
    Thanks
    Frani,
I think the optical drive is not your problem, but it sounds like it needs replacement. There's a 75% chance it's your hard drive. Read the article on kernel panics. It takes time to diagnose the issue, but if you get TechTools and run a full diagnostic, you might find out if it's a hardware issue. But fix permissions and clean out your cache first, just in case it's a simple fix.
