My macbook runs great until..
so i have a 2.0ghz macbook with 2gb of ram
if i don't have much open it runs like a champ.. super fast.. like just safari and ichat
but if i put in a cd.. and have itunes on (playing from an external hard drive).. and a couple other programs in it slows down big time.. slightly freezing (as in showing the colored wheel and freezing for like 5 or 10 seconds).. and i understand normal slow downs but its not just that.. if i eject the cd or close everything but the small stuff again its still completely messed up.. like only ichat and safari are open again and they continue to freeze and such.. and that goes on until i restart..
i was looking at a system monitoring widget and i can't tell anything really crazy.. processor is less than 70% all that time even when the "big stuff" was open.. and ram was never completely used.. and the temperature.. well the temperature gets hot but its not conistent enough to make me think its the temperature.. it will get really hot but still runs great
also i ran the hardware test from the install cds.. nothing..
could this be hardware related? my 14 days is up tomorrow so im not sure what to do :/
any ideas?
Thank you so much, Mr. Curtis! I'm not sure exactly how that worked, but it allowed me to get back on both AE and Premiere Pro. 10 points to you!
Also, for the other people that may have similar problems and are viewing this forum, definitely try this out. Listen to Jim's advice, don't use the most recent version (which is currectly 5.5.47) - instead try a slightly older one. The one I had installed was version 5.5.24.
Once again, thank you! You saved my project!

I tried updating my itune program. Now all I get is the following message "Itunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126). WHAT can I do to get back to where my itunes program is running again?
I have uninstalled the proram and tried reinstalling and get the same error message. The other error message I get is "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". I have tried that twice with no luck. Can someone help me get my music back???Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Macbook running slow all of a sudden!
Hello,
My macbook (late 2011) has started running crazy slow out of nowhere. I'm on 10.7.5 I know it's old but I write music and I cannot update the OS because I'm in the middle of a project. I'm backing up the hard drive right now. Here's what I've done so far any advice would be greatly appreciated:
Repaired Disc permissions.
Deleted Chrome.
Reset the System Management Controller.
I have 100 Gig free on my hard drive.
It's not a ram issue as things have been running great until yesterday with no program changes.
Thanks for your time. Here's the report. I used Adware Medic to remove "searchme". But it's still in the report even though Adware says it's all clear.

Macbook 2ghz - Upgrade install, runs great
My Macbook 2ghz (upgraded install), runs great. It's faster and the best thing is that it finds and connects to the wifi as quick as you can open safari. My G5's are getting there now, but they had clean installs.
Love the screen share it's much faster than ARD. I also like the way you can have a little fun a remote screen a mac and that mac remote screen you, in an endless mirror effect. Link:
http://screencast.com/t/QCyoYt0yUF
It's been a whole weekend of installs so far and it's not over yet.Very sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Processor Name would have to be Core 2 Duo for it to be able to use 802.11n
Core Duo machines do not have 802.11n compatible cards.
It is possible to upgrade them though.
Sorry and best of luck. -
My MacBook Runs Very Slow After BootCamp.
Today i decided to install a windows partition using bootcamp. At first I didnt'g give the partition enough memory so i deleted it and partitoned it once again. After going back to OSX i noticed a huge difference in performance. Everything ran incredibly slow and took a long time to process even the simplest tasks. Thinking it would solve the problem i once again deleted the windows partition. I rebooted and things got a little better. I then tried to repair disk permissions and again had little results. Whenevr i have itunes open or try to open it, it causes big problems and everything slows down. The same thing happens anytime i try to play an audio file on any player. However if i keep itunes closed and don't try to play any music things run decently, still slow but decent. But in order for things to stay this way i have to constantly clean my RAM up. If i don't i get left with around 10 MB of RAM. I checked the activity monitor and seems that coreadiod is using up the RAM. The process is staying around 115% of CPU usage. This happens even when everything is closed and i am idle at my desktop.
This is a big problem and i can never have more than about 3GB of RAM free and even then it quickly drops until i'm left with just MB's. My MAcBook is a 15 in. retina MBP with 8 GB of RAM. Before the bootcamp OSX always ran super fast with no problems. There is only one thing i can think of that caused this problem. In my windows partition i downloaded various media players including itunes and winamp. I was trying to basically share my itunes library on the OSX partition over to the windows. To do this i changed the itunes media folder location to the one on the OSX partition. This did not accomplish my task but it did keep that file directory. Also with windows media player i added the same itunes media folder to the list of folders for WMP to access, this also did not work. In winamp i added the same folder and it read my music no problem. I think this is where the problem lies seeing as itunes and playing audio files seems to leave my computer almost unfuctional. The odd part is it doesn't even have to be an audio file in my itunes library, a file completely seperate that i didnt try to add to the windows partition causes the same issue.
I'm not too knowlwedgable on this so i have no idea what else to try. Any help or any suggestions as to what to do would be greatly appreciated. After looking into the problem more, it turns out everything works great until I open itunes. itunes does not open and if i force quit it, that is when coreaudiod starts taking all of my RAM.

Hi,
A few people have asked this question, my macbook is running very slow and the mouse spinning circle comes up quite a lot. I am unsure of why it is doing this.
I have attached a copy of the EtreCheck I have done on my system.
Can you please have a look and see if you can see if there is anything wrong, as I am unsure of what I am looking at.
Thanks for your help

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software. -

My macbook runs extremely slow when logging in after waking up from sleep, locking up and I am unable to use the keyboard. Furthermore, when just using safari to watch streaming television, my computer gets really slow, and locks up, and the dock appears blank and I sit here frustrated. Anytime i wake up my computer, my keys don't respond and I've waited at most 3 minutes untill i can type in my password. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

I have old MacBook running OS 10.6.8 I was told in Apple Genius Bar that I need a code from apple support to upgrade to 10.7. Apple support will not help because I am have their support plan. Can some one help?
hi Samberl
thanks a lot for the fast reply.
I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
Your suggestion sounds very promising - I didn't know about 'cloning'.
Yes the idea is to backup the laptop - I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb ? = under the HD icon on desktop is written :
" 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free "
I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up the hard drive - would this mean all my files [over 100 gb] that are mostly in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon, would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ] ?
thanks again, hope you can clarify these things and then I will go for it.
It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!

Power PC G5 Freezing/Crashing, then after restart, running great for HOURS.
I have an old PPC G5 Dual 2.5 with 5 Gigs of RAM, and the Delphi Liquid Cooling system, running OSX 10.5.8.
It will ALWAYS freeze within 20 minutes of startup, and have to be hard-shutdown. After it is restarted, it runs GREAT for HOURS. I can mix a 40-channel Pro Tools session forever, and no crashes, nothing. After it's shut down for a few hours, over night, etc., I'll start it up, and FREEZE. THe freeze is usually accompanied by the fans gradually ramping up until they're full speed. I'm surprised it doesn.t start to move.
What the ****? Why the initial freeze followed by incredible stability?
Please, someone help me without telling me to "clean it" or "replace the processors". The thing runs FLAWLESSLY after the initial freeze.
I find this to be incredibly odd. I have a Mac Pro now and am trying to sell this G5, but would like to resolve this freeze problem first. No idea on Best Buy's prices.
Couple of resets, but I wouldn't do either yet, seems were on to a different problem now...
Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMD+Option+o+f ?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42642
reset-nvram (press Enter)
set-defaults (press Enter)
reset-all (press Enter)
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
But I suspect AT&T may have been refer to a Modem/Router reset.
I also seem to be missing two 256MB sticks of memory sometimes. Could it be Bad RAM?
Could be bad RAM, but with the "sometimes I think it's the Lead-free solder issue.
If you're sure the RAM is good, try the Hair Dryer trick...

It can show on any G5, and even many other computers & electronic devices of the period.

Can I go back to an older version of iTunes that'll support both my iPhone 4S w/iOS6 and my 2009 MacBook running Leapord 10.5.8? I simply want everything to work the way it had been forever until recently. However, I can't imagine Apple would intentionally make their own products obsolete by rendering them useless through a software "upgrade." My MacBook is only 3 yrs old so I feel like I am simply missing 1 piece to this puzzle in order for things to start working again. I have my MacBook, iPod and iPhone 4S all set up to install updates automatically so if I need to uninstall certain updates and revert back to ones that work will that even be an option? Thanks
The only version of iTunes which will support both is version 10.6.3.

Should I upgrade to Mavericks now from 10.6.8 (i-Mac, mid 2007, core 2 duo)? Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ? I have the latest version of 10.6.8 and have upgraded my memory to 4GB. This could be one reason for me to make the move now.
10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about lack of support now. I know my PC apps will not work but maybe some apps that work now will "walk away" from 10.6.8 and then there's the security question of above.
I am also concerned about iPhoto 9 transition to i-Photo 11 and compatibility of my Time Machine WD Passport HD (format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) based on several questions in applicable forums.
Thanks for your help in this important decision! If I were you I would stick with Snow Leopard. It's much better suited to your old hardware. That said:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
