My macbook's volume control is locked...

my macbook's volume control is locked...  plz someone xactly tell me what i shud do to get rid off this problem..!  incase of tooth pick plz specify about where i mus poke or something..!   plz help :'(

Hi Bob,
I've also got this problem. I saw on another thread you were helping a lady who also lost the sound in her MBP, but then her disk crashed! If you can help me I'd appreciate it.
I've got sound on startup, but otherwise my volume is greyed out. Theres no red light in headphone socket.
I've posted the thread below on this topic but have had no replies, in my post I mention that when I use my bluetooth headset my volume works, but if I disable BT or remove the BT speaker device and then try to use my internal MBP speakers, no joy. I DON'T think its related to the BT speaker.

I haven't done a Os reinstall yet, can't find disk, but this doesn't seem to work for people anyway?
Some things I've tried
PRAM reset
Repaired permissions
Rebooted (holding 'D' key)
My IAC driver was also greyed out and I followed this post to make it active but problem still not solved!!

Would really appreciate your input.

  • Macbook pro volume controls

    Hi All
I have had my new macbook pro for 2 weeks now. Im not sure if I have done anything wrong, however the keyboard volume controls do not adjust the volume (f10,f11 and f12) and the volume icon in the menu bar also doesn't adjust the volume. They both move, and I can put it on mute, but the sound doesn't change. The Only way to adjust the volume is to do it manually in system pref's.This is becoming extremely frustrating, can anyone help me out?
    Regards,
    Hugo

Try System Preferences > Sound > Output, and at the bottom try manually adjusting the volume with the slider.
If this doesn't work, try rebooting.

  • Volume control is locked...

    Hi...
My volum control is already locked, i don't know how to fix this problem, is there anyone to guide me?

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • After restarting my MacBook the volume control icon disappeared

Where did the volume control icon go? Yes I can manually do it on my keyboard
but after restarting my laptop yesterday, the icon is no longer there.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Try adding the volume control icon to menu bar. Open System Preferences > Sound, and mark "Show volume in menu bar"

  • RE: Macbook Pro mid 2010 headphone socket, volume control fault.

RE: Macbook Pro, volume control faulty (shaded out) when i unplug my headphones the headphone socket doesn't swithch to the internal speakers after searching around for answers i found faulty i  found a the faulty headphone socket is common on MBP.
After fidling around with preferences having no luck i finally tried the old paper clip test but i used an iphone sim card tool just to be on the safe side and would you believe it its a faulty sensor.
i am very unhappy with Apple who are obviously are aware of this problem and the hundreds of posts out there grapically recording it i have several macs this one,s standard warranty ran a few months ago so i will have to pay out even more for this is this a taste of things to come as Apple gets bigger and bigger leaving quality behind, that would be a shame.

I don't believe so since it crashed again while doing a time machine back up while in safe boot and there is no mention of vmware in the crash report for that. Also it definitely has nothing to do with windows either since I'm able to boot directly into the windows partition with no problems.

  • My volume control on my macbook is locked..

my volume control on my macbook is locked. i read on one of your discussions that i should try re-plugging in my audio usb cable for it to unlock. this worked, however as soon as i take the cable out it locks itself again. what do i do? please help!

Perform a SMC reset and recheck
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • HT5922 Volume control Itunes Shared Library from Macbook air played through iPad

    Hi everyone,
I am using iPad Air to airplay through use of iTunes shared library from Macbook, to Play to my Apple TV using the Remote App from apple on the iPad.
I noticed that the swipe up control screen volume control does not affect the volume on my speakers of the Denon which is perfectly connected with apple tv. The only thing which controls the volume is the Denon volume control.
The iTunes  volume control on the Macbook also do not work with Apple TV when airplaying
I assume this is because of the Denon Reciever, but would like to hear if others who are connecting directly without a multimedia amplifier and speakers are also unable to raise volume using itunes control or not?
Thans in advance for any feedback given.

I think this may be a clue to the problem. When you purchased the MBA did you restore any of your personal data from a prior backup? In particular, did you restore any prior data in the Music folder?
Or, did you simply launch iTunes and enable iTunes Match?

  • Every time I plug in my headphones into my Macbook Pro, my volume control buttons don't work.

Every time I plug in my headphones into my Macbook Pro, my volume control buttons don't work. Even after I unplug my headphones they don't work, they get stuck on the level of volume it was at when I plugged in the headphones. I can control the volume if I go to system preferences and do it that way, but that is such a pain. Also, in order to get the buttons to work again I have to completely restart my computer which is also a pain! What should I do, or can do, to fix the problem?

If you have have  lion system, herebis a digital/analong output, youmcan a tooth/Qip with the the tip cut off you can  you can stirrted s very gently to the input/put is a digital/along output devivce\\\\\\\\\\\\\
    The dual input/digital input
a annaolg/digidal, an toothpick/Qtip with the cutit off gentely wiggle  the the the input/put should then looen the the right the, should loosen the sticky switch to the lne.

  • No volume controls using HDMI on Macbook Pro

I bought a new 13" Macbook Pro to replace a Windows box that died a few days ago.  I have set it up just like my other MacBook Pro and brought it over to my shop to finish the setup.  I connected the HDMI cable to the adapter and the video appeared.  I plugged the headhone input cable into the Mac and tried to play some music - nothing.  Looked at the Preferences and although my headphones volume was max, I had no sounds.  Saw that I had HDMI as a sound option and clicked on it and got immediate sound but no volume control.  It tells me that 'The selected device has no output controls'.  This means I have to access the display menu for any volume changes as opposed to my usual F11/F12 keytaps.
Anyone have a fix for this?  Seems clunky that I am stuck using a non-adjustable audio out with a new computer.  The 27" Samsung monitor is fine and I can't see dropping another grand for a Cinema display like I have at the house when this is fine.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, RickPrice.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting External Displays:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
Although most of the content there is for video specific issues, there are a few steps that are always good when troubleshooting. Specifically:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • Apple TV messed up Macbook Pro, Keyboard volume controls won't work.

I can't get my Keyboard Volume controls to work on my macbook pro, Apple TV messed it up. This isn't an issue with disabling the remote control infrared receiver. When I want to turn my volume up or down, I have to go to system prefrences and change the volume that way. It's annoying and a big waste of time. Please help me before I throw this computer against the wall.
    Thank You!!

I've got an extremely similar problem. Spillage on the keyboard. Unknown, what it was.
To start with it was dead, no power up.
Then it dried out. There was still a bit of battery power left, and the mouse and track pad worked for a few minutes then it all froze.
So I shut the lid. I left it like that, because I couldnt switch it off.
Much later, opened it up again and all windows opened up, all info was correct,
I was advised to try wireless mouse and keyboard, but you have to get in there before it freezes again.
The battery was charging normally as well.
I made the decision to let the battery die completely and then switch it on again, but sure enough when I did this, it ignored any re-boot command and that's that. Dead as a do-do.
So, without being a computer whizz kid, I presume, it's off to the Apple store for a sizeable bill.
Unless someone else has a cunning plan ????????
I would love to hear it !!!!!!

  • Volume control lock

Looking for the applications or some kind of software for HP Touchpad to lock volume control button on my request. It is necessary for listening to music when I carry the tablet in my bag, the button pushed occasionally and the volume floats. Have somebody met such kind of problem and maybe have found some way to solve it?

I have not seen any such app, either in the App Catalog or Preware (homebrew).

Hi Yamaha72, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Try this first...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
