My early 2011 Macbook Pro on start up has wifi, but drops it soon after and never comes back, AHT shows nothing wrong. Multiple wifi's tried and same on all. I have also re-installed OSX from scratch and still happens.
I have the same problem. I have a white macbook 2010, with mavericks os. I just found my mac not powering on and then I tried to run it on safe mode by holding the shift button but it will turn off seconds after I let go of the shift button. I am able to access the desktop and use it while holding the shift button the whole time. It's a bit slower than before but I figured maybe it's because of holding down shift button.
I went to the Apple Store to have them look at my mac and I was told it's a failed hard disk. I wasn't told why he was able to conclude that a failed hard disk is causing the problem, I was just told to get a replacement. But the thing is when I ran Disk Utility it says, "disk appears to be okay." So I also feel like it's possible it's not a hard disk issue because it's also the first time it happened. My mac was working perfectly fine before all this.
Do you know anything else that could cause this problem? Were you able to find out what's wrong?

I'm not the sharpest crayon, and was getting frustrated by the fact that erasing my hard drive and reinstalling Snow Leopard and my applications would not get my computer to start up without the Mac OS X Install disc inserted. In the course of that, in Disk Utility, since none of the options were working and my computer would not recognize my backup drive, I ended up copying the Install disc as the source onto my one partition on my hard drive. Now, the computer starts up, but goes directly to the install proceedure. However, there is no drive to select to install Mac OS X to. Disk Utility won't allow for the option to erase the drive again. How do I make my computer usable again?
Can't do that. The intallation steps reach the point where you have to choose the disc to install to. There is no disc to choose on the screen. The space is empty. I cannot select anything to erase and install to.

My Macbook Pro 17" 2.44ghz all of a sudden one day decided to not boot up. When the power button is pressed the sleep light in the front on the latch release turns on and there is a small running sound but it never boots up and the screen never lights up. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?
I'd love to repair it but not if it'll cost 500 bucks or more to replace the logicboard.

yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
ls /Volumes

Try forcing the phone into recovery mode. Disable ALL anti-virus & firewalls first.
Turn your phone off, then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option of restoring from backup or as a new device. -
how long does it take to delete an account from a macbook (OSX 10.9.4)? I used secure delete (at the recommendation of the apple genius) and it has already taken 2 weeks... and still not deleted! Granted there was over 200GB of data... any ideas on this? thanks

Macbook late '08 freezing up, has trouble booting after iLife install.
A couple of days ago I installed iLife '11 on my Macbook and went to run the updates that the App Store was telling me were available, including the Mountain Lion 10.8.4 update. I shut the lid of my computer while they were downloading, without thinking and when I opened it again, the screen was dark, but the computer was on. I forced a shutdown and went to reboot but got stuck at the grey Apple logo and timer wheel. I zapped the PRAM and it booted right up but it told me that I needed to restart to install the updates. I did so and had trouble booting again. I had to do the PRAM thing a couple more times to get it to boot but when it did, the only update that installed was GarageBand. I ran it until all of the updates had downloaded and it asked me to restart. Everything went smoothly this time but when I logged back in the OS X 10.8.4 update was sitting there waiting to be installed again. I reset to install twice more but it never installed. Now whenever I'm running an application it will freeze up after a time, and when I go to quit the application the whole computer freezes, forcing me to force shutdown but putting me back to where it freezes on boot up. Freezes when I try to boot into safe mode or recovery mode often as well. I can manage to get in every once in awhile, after zapping the PRAM two or three times, but even that is starting to freeze too. Any one know what's going on? I ran iAntiVirus and it found nothing, I'm working on uninstalling iLife to see if that helps too.

First thought is to dump the anti virus software. It sounds to me as though your installation of OS X is hosed due to an incomplete update attempt. You need to repair the hard drive using Disk Utility and reinstall Mountian Lion completely, not just the update to 10.8.4. -
The search function in the itunes store does not work. It will accept a request and suggest searches but then it locks up and will not search. Clicking on the magnifying glass or a suggested search does nothing. Re-installing itunes has not helped.

Bridge CC on opening gives "Adobe Bridge CC has stopped working" Uninstalled, re-installed same error, will not run. "check online for a solution" does nothing.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List. -

You can only deauthorise individual computers directly on them. Otherwise if you've reached the 5 computer limit, then you should be able to log into your iTunes account and 'deauthorise all' (which you can only do once every 12 months) and you can then (re-)authorise up to 5 computers : authorising and deauthorising.

I have bought OS X Lion 1.7 in Apple Store on august 2011 but I never installed it (I had download in pause). To day I have tried to complete download but Lion 1.7 is not more disposable in Italian Store. How is possible update my Snow Leopard to Lion or (better) Mountain Lion?

As you're running Snow Leopard and you have a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, you CAN upgrade directly to Mountain Lion so long as you have at least 2GB of Memory and 7GB of available space on your hard drive. So, once you check that your MacBook Pro meets these requirements you can download Mountain Lion from the App Store.
I'm not sure, but I think you will have to pay €15.99 for the upgrade even though you never managed to completely download your upgrade to Lion.
