My macbook screen suddenly is all jittery!?
All of a sudden the screen on my macbbook is going crazy! Repeated images and horizontal lines. It makes the computer unusable.
However, when I restart the grey apple screen come up no problem. Then back to the same old problem. Soooo I'm inclined to believe its not a hardware Problem at least not with the monitor.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?
I just had the chance to hook it up to an external display from the mini display port. With some careful guess clicking we were as to mirror the screen and the computer operates like normal in this setup.
This considered, could it still be the graphics card?

The monitor of my MacBook Pro suddenly became all black, I tried to reset but it did not work, what should I do? Why does this happen?
I advise to reply to the one you want to reply to.
You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

I own a Macbook 3.1.
Since a couple of months I face the following problem:
My screen suddenly dims. This outcome of this malfunction is as if I dimmed it with the F1 button. However, I can see the screen but it's dimmed completely. When I use F2 button to give some more lightness, I see that the lightness icon appears in the (dimmed) screen but nothing happens.
The only way to "fix" temporarily the problem and restore the lightness of my screen is to close the lid and open it after a couple of seconds.
I recently upgraded to Lion but this happened also when I had Snow Leopard OS installed. Futhermore, it seems that this happens when the CPU is at high performance (ie write a CD/DVD, or running my USB TV card).
I 've also tried to reset the system management controller, the problem stoped but it appeared again after a couple of days.
The specs of my macbook are the following:
Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2,2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Is there any solution that could fix my problem?
Thanks in advance! My USB TV Card is the following:
AVerMedia H830M

Macbook screen suddenly turns black
Hi everybody.
I have a macbook pro since 20 months now.
I turn it off very rarely but, many times, I have had the problem that, after awaking it from sleep mode, the screen suddenly turns black and I have to turn the macbook down. This problem happens approximately 1 time every two months.
Here are my macbook details and the report of the problem. I hope you can help me.

I tried to use the Apple Recover Lion and downloaded it to my external drive. Then, tried to use it -that's when the problem started I got the panic screen. This has not happened for several months since the Lion upgrade, and only happened when I tried to reinstall Lion. Now taking it back to the Mac dealer to figure out what is causing this new issue. I am writing this from my old HP laptop -which is running fine with Windows 7. Don't know if buying a Mac was a good idea. This seems to be a software issue with the downloaded recovery program, Apple should fix this asap not in 6 months, there are posts about this for a year now.

Droid Eris screen suddenly moves all the way left
I've had my Eris for about a year now, no major issues other than being slow sometimes. A couple of days ago my screen started moving all the way left on it's own. No idea why this is happening. I've done some soft resets, but doesn't always fix the problem. It seems to come and go but it is really annoying.
Should I do a hard reset? Anyone else have this kind of issue?I have provided some information below that may help.
Step 1 – Try re-calibrating the touch screen. I have provided the instructions below:
-Select Menu
-Select Settings
-Select Sound & Display
-Select G-Sensor calibration (make sure the device is on a level surface and press Calibrate to adjust).
Step 2 – Try powering the device off and pulling the battery out for 20 seconds.
Step 3 – Try uninstalling any 3rd party applications that play any part in the devices home screen (e.g. something that adds more screens, live wallpapers, themes)
Step 4 – Hard Reset (I have provided the article below for the instruction)

Macbook screen has gone all fuzzy
Yesterday I updated my mac with the new SMC firmware.
On the restart my screen has gone all fuzzy, and the colours have gone all strange.
It does this in both mac OS X, windows vista and the boot screen. When I take a screen grab of the screen and send it to another computer the image is normal, as if this problem did not occur.
I've done a hardware test from my install disks and it turned up no problem. I have also tried resetting the SMC firmware by turning the laptop off, unplugging the battery and holding the power button, but so far nothing has changed.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.GfulDedFan,
Thank you for your reply,
I might have been wrong about the SMC update.
I got the update on my machine on the 17th, and I wasn't sure what exactly it was, and assumed it was the SMC update as it came out on the same date.
My machine is running an Intel chip set and was purchased in mid-2007. -
My 3-year-old Macbook is suddenly having all kinds of problems.
Symptoms, all within a few weeks with no warning: First iTunes got corrupted. Then lots of 'corrupt file' error message with Word (seems to be xlsx files). Then Entourage started crashing repeatedly and hanging up. The fan started coming on a lot.
What I've done: Visited the genius bar. Scanned the disks--no problems there. Installed and ran iAntivirus--no problems there. Did a clean install of OS X. Did a few one-off solutions that I found on other forms to address fan and Entourage database problem.
Result: Even after the reinstall, I am still getting corrupt Word files. Fan still comes on more than it should.

The Genius should have done a SMART scan. That is standard procedure, especially with a new hard drive.

MacBook Pro suddenly looses all power and turns off
Hi folks
Ive experienced this twice in the last week, and jut pray that it doesnt ever happen when im working on an unsaved Logic Pro Project.
Anyhow, ill be working away and then screen goes black. All power is lost to the computer. You cant turn it back on untill you insert the power adapter. Both times it happend the power to the mains has not been plugged in. Once you install power Then it picks up power and it restarts.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Is this a known issue? Im just scared as tits that one day im going to be in the middle of something really important and its gona go wacko on me.
The battery is not dead, when i rebooted on the first time battery was at 16% second time it was at 22%same here.
my MBP started doing it recently.
for once, battery goes out of juice pretty quickly.
but there is still some juice left (last time - 17%) and suddenly the machine just switches off... like that... no warning, no sleep, nothing....
I did the "battery formatting" and also reset PRAM (?) (switched it off, took the battery out and kept power button pressed for 10 secs)
I do not like this behaviour. Interestingly, the battery has been replaced (there was a battery recall action about a year ago)
Awaiting some hints re: what can be causing this...

Screen suddenly looks like a colorful barcode
I was switching between apps and my screen suddenly went all-white with a lot of very thin vertical lines, so it looked like a big colorful barcode. I pressed command-option-eject to put the computer to sleep, and that worked. Then I woke it up and the screen looked fine.
This is a brand new machine, so if there's a real problem lurking, someone please tell me so I can get it serviced before the warranty ends. Thanks.Hey.
I've been having exactly the same problem since two weeks.
Let me explain.
While going to school, i had to finis a work in the bus, so i power on my laptop, and immediatly turn into a nice colorful barcode. I was very because i thought i had broken my laptop, while hanging it in my laptop case.
So i close it immediatly, and re-opened it. The barcode disappeared.
Okay, so at school no problem at all.
I got back home, no problem at all either. But in the night, while watching a movie in my bed, my laptop, which were 1 meter far away from me, turned into the barcode, without touching it at all.
GREAT!
i closed it down, reopened it, but the barcode didn't get out as well the first time in the bus.
i am getting very scared.
after 15mins of trying to open it, close it, the barcode still belong on the screen.
i fall asleep.
And the problem is still there.
I went to the Apple reseller, where i bought my Macbook Pro unibody 15" late 2008. And showed him.
He told me that the screen is broken, or maybe the gaphic cards.
But my laptop works perfectly when plug into my Apple Cinema Display. I am using dual link dvi, and works perfectly.
But something strange, about my unibody, is that, the day i bought it (nearly 18months ago), i noticed that the headphone jack hole were very loose, so loose that if i just touch my headphone, it will unplugged and play sound on the built-in speakers.
So I brought in the two weeks after my purchase, as this became very very annoying to use. We also noticed on this day, that the whole screen part were shifted something like one millimeter all along my laptop. Really strange.
The guy tested the macbook. And at least, he told me something like "Well your macbook works perfectly, maybe they were a problem while mounting your laptop, but as it works perfectly (hardware and software), no need to send it to Apple
Warranty Service".
Great.
But now, it's seems that there is to much problem and issues ont my laptop.
I remember having many problems with it.
-in the firth month of use, my macbook pro didn't go well into sleep mode (like many people in this forum), so sometimes i found my laptop on my desk, getting warmer and warmer, while being in sleep mode.
-really nice video glitch while plugging my macbook on my apple cinéma display 30", video getting black/vertical
-many firmware problem (like backlight keyboard in my Xp Boot Camp partition, with the superdrive)
-the headphone jack issues, wich is REALLY annoying, i found a "cheap" solution, i bought a behringer audio card (19euros)
-and now the screen issue, which cannot let me use my laptop as a portable computer. Do I have to bring my own screen everywhere i go?
I can't imagine i bought this computer 2200 euros. -
Macbook screen blacking out suddenly
Hi all,
While using my Macbook, the screen suddenly goes black.
The screen goes black apparently randomly, sometimes it does, sometimes it does not.
My Macbook is on my table, which I guess is pretty well ventilated too.
After pressing the spacebar and other keys for a while, the blacked-out screen will just go back to normal.
What is the problem? I would be glad if anyone could offer any advice.
Thank you.Go to system preferences, go to energy saver, at the top with the scroll down menu you can change settings for power adapter or battery, and below that option there's optimization settings. And while you are there, go into options (button beside "Sleep") and see if there's any options you may want to change as well. You may have to click the little pad lock icon at bottom left corner to make changes.
Any more questions just ask away. If you think any of the advice here are helpful you may want to click the little icon to mark each post "helpful" or "solved". -
MacBook Pro Screen Suddenly "Zoomed In"
I've got a two year old MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.
About five minutes ago, while I was using a four-finger trackpad shortcut, the screen suddenly zoomed in about a half inch or so. Now, everything is just slightly lower resolution and my screen is too small to show everything. For example, the date and time in the upper right corner is halfway off the side of the screen. All my desktop icons are slightly larger.
I don't know anything about setting screen resolutions, but I found the display preference and its set for the max 1680x1050. (Seems I remember this once going up to 1080, but maybe I'm mistaken.)
Regardless, my screen is now looking goofy. How do I get it back? And what might I have done to cause this? I don't remember hitting any errant keys of commands, other than using four fingers on the trackpad for a certain function.

You have got a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, and the log shows that your NVIDIA GPU is damaged.
Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro come with a defective NVIDIA GPU that may cause unexpected restarts, black screens, kernel panics... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Apple is repairing all these MacBooks Pro for free if they were purchased less than three years ago, so make a backup of your files on an external drive with Time Machine and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller. -
My iMac is less than one year old. Without warning, the screen suddenly goes black. It used to happen ocasionally, but now it happens all the time. Numerous people have posted about this issue. Why hasn't Apple solved the issue. For what I paid my computer, I expected more from the product than I have gotten. I was a PC person for years and most of my associates told me that I needed to get a mac...I am starting to regret having taken their advice.
Sorry you're having this problem.
A few years ago we had a similar issue on one of our machines, it was an early MacBook. Ended up being a cracked circuit connection on the motherboard. Changes in temperature caused the crack to expand and contract resulting in a shut-down followed by an automatic reboot. Sometimes over-and-over. I understood from AppleCare at the time that those symptoms could have also been any number of things including a intermittent issue with a powersupply.
If you take it back to the Apple Store at some point, I would ask them to have it run some CPU intensive tasks that closely resemble what you are doing when the screen goes black. It took us several try's to find the problem. Calling AppleCare each time to discuss it and troubleshoot before making the trips to the Apple Store really moved things along. In fact, it wasn't until the Apple Store had cracked the case from the inside that things kicked into a higher gear and AppleCare phone support sent out a pre-paid FedX package to send it to a refurbishing facility. Never a problem since and I know the people who have the machine today.
PS Can identify with the trip to the Apple Store, our closest one is in Knoxville, 2hrs from us. -
When I am on the internet, my screen will suddenly scroll all the way to the bottom and will not respond to any commands. All of the other programs are then affected the same way and you cannot even use the commands at the top of the screen becayse they all scroll to the bottom. After a while, the screen resets by itself. Help.
It sounds like a problem wih the backlight inverter. Usually they just go, instead of on and off.
In a dark room hold a flashlight on the display when it blacks out. If you can see the items on the desktop, it's probably the backlight. -
MacBook Pro Screen suddenly turns blue
I have a MacBook Pro that I've had for about two years now. Lately, I will be surfing the net (generally use Firefox), and my screen suddenly turns blue. If I close the lid, reopen, and push the power button, it fires back up. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
I have exactly the same problem 3 month ago and until now it still happen. I took my macbook pro into apple store two time. first time, they check that diagnosis of the hardward generated and it turn out clear. nothing happen to it. then they check my software and find that there is something wrong with safari. so they decided to reinstall everything.
And they told me to not install everything back from your time machine just install the folder that I want. And try that for 2 weeks. Since that it been working fine until last week, macbook suddenly turn blue again but this time it shown random colour with line and shape before it turn to blue screen.
Now i dont know what to do as mine warranty just expired 3 days before it happen. I think it gonna cost a lot without warranty.
