My macbook that wont turn back on after I open the lid

Well my macbook is very fast and works great, *+when it turns back on+.* I leave it on most of the time and close it, plugged into a power cord, when i am done using it. I am not putting it to sleep or turning it off, just closing the lid. When I open the lid, it sometimes turns back on, and most of the time doesn't. The little light on the outside turns off when I open it, and when I close it, it turns on. I will push the power button, that doesn't do anything.
I will take the battery out and unplug it from the wall, put the battery back in and all, and it still wont turn back on. After I play with it for a few minutes, it will either turn back on, go to a grey screen with a grey progress bar, or pretend like I turned it on by going to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little spinning circle at the bottom. I have done disk utilities, any kind of utility i could think up, but it still does this. I was running tiger when it started happening.
I tried repartitioning the hard drive, backing everything up and reinstalling osx. still a problem. i recently upgraded to leopard. still a problem. I have no idea whats going on because it is not consistant. it will randomly do this. I have even sent it to apple and it wasnt fixed.

It sounds like it's hardware-related. Note the exact time the events occur, and then check your system logs in your Console application for clues to the cause.
Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
If that does not work, you may need to get it looked at.

Just upgraded to OSX 10.9 mavericks on macbook pro mid 2011 version. Having a big issue here that whenever my mac comes back from sleep, i.e after I open the lid, the screen flickers and there is an error of Finder not opening properly. Any fix to this?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • MacBook wont wake up after I open the lid

It has been a persisting (and boring) issue. My MacBook wont wake up after I open the lid. I try closing and opening it lots of times but the screen stays black - it doesnt display the user login screen. Anyone has ever experienced this kind of issue, knows what causes it or has a fix for this bug?

    Try resetting the SMC:

  • My computer won't turn on after I open the lid

When i close my computer to sleep, it wont turn back on when i open it and it gets really hot even though it is closed. When this happens my computer is charged, and i simply close the computer, and when I try to turn it on, I have to hold down the power button for at least 20 seconds and when it does this it drains my battery. It has happened 3 times in the past 3 days.

    Try and SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • MBA screen flashes black for about 2 seconds after I open the lid from sleep?

My MBA has recently started flashing a black screen for about 2 seconds after I open the lid. This seems to happen after the MBA has been asleep for a while. It doesn't seem to effect the performance (at least not yet). Any suggestions?

Have also since found out that to start FF4 in safe mode you just hold shift whilst double-clicking the icon. We only find these things out after the event, murphy's law!

  • Macbook died, wont turn back on

After having dropped my macbook some time ago, it was running well but slow. I noticed that at times when I'd carry it to class or move it around it would shut off. Today, after this happening, I tried to turn it back on. I got the screen one gets when the computer turns back on after losing battery, as happens everytime. This time, however, the screen "skittered" and then the computer died. It wont turn back on. The charger is lit when plugged in, but it doesnt appear to be holding any charge. Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That is a good first step for power related issues such as this.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhone 5 screen wont turn back on after making a call.

When I put my phone to my ear, the screen turns black, like it should, but once I'm done, it wont turn back on... It does the same thing with siri. I active the raise to speak option and the screen turns black when I do it. I then have to press the sleep button two times to get to my lock screen. Is this an hardware or a software problem? If it is software, can an upcoming update fix it?

I don't beleive this is a known problem and you should probably bring your phone to a local Genius Bar (make an appointment here) as this is likely a hardware issue (a problem with your phone realizing that you removed it from your ear).
If you're willing to tinker with it a bit, you can determine if this is a software issue by backing up your iPhone (separately ensure your photos, videos and music is backed up) and then "Restore" your phone. If the restoration solves the problem, you're dealing with a software issue. If the problem still exists, you're almost definitely dealing with a hardware issue.

  • My Ipod Touch wont turn back on after I lock it

Just got an Ipod touch 2ng Gen off my brother.
Everytime I touch the button at the top to turn it off or sleep it, I can't tuyrn it back on again. I have to end up Holding the Home buttom and power button ALWAYS for it to turn back on.
However when playing music, I can push the power button, putting it into sleep and it works fine. Other than that, if I touch the top button and sleep it, it wont turn back on.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem.

  • MacBook Pro makes a noise and freezes after I open the lid and awake it from it's sleep after installing Mt. Lion.  How do I fix this?

Eversince I installed Mt. Lion my Macbook Pro has been making a long "beeeeeeep" noise and freezes after I try to awake it from it's sleep by opening the lid.  How do I fix this problem?

Either the license files were not transferred or it has to be relicensed.
Remove and then re-install aperture. On an rMBP this should take only a couple of minutes.

  • Notebook shut off wont turn back on after battery tapped

I purchased   3 notebooks  all  are doing the same thing. If you set the down on any surface they shut off. One of them will not turn back on. I have switched batteries and charging cords. I don't see it as a recall but it's strange that all 3 are doing the exact same thing. Power cord when plugged in has a white light but no screen will turn on. Tried 2 different batteries and 2 power cords. I have tried just plugging in no battery only power cord and holding down power button, no change.I bought these last November 2014, I never had this problem will my Dell comouters. Anyone have any suggestions?? Very frustrated! These computers are barely used and don't leave the house, they are not abused.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issues with 3 Notebook PC's. I understand that one of the Notebook PC's will not turn on at all, and the other two shut down if you set them on a surface. I  would be happy to assist, I just need your Model Numbers (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) and Which Windows Operating Systems you are running.  In the meantime, you could try some HP Troubleshooting documents.  I am going to give you all three versions of the Computer does not start HP document as I am unsure of the Operating System you are running at this time. Computer Does Not Start (Windows 7), Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8), Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10).  Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to do a Hardware Test? Are you receiving any error messages? Are you receiving any LED lights flashing or Beep Codes? If so, here is a document called HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code.  You had mentioned that you purchased these Notebooks in November 2013. Please check your Warranty Status using the Check Your Product Warranty site. If you are still in warranty, please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

    - First reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

    - If iTunes sees the iPod I would restore the iPod to factory defaults

    - Last, let the battery fully drain and the charge and try again.

My MacBook was frozen for a second and after I closed the computer and reopened it, it looks as if it is off and won't turn back on. Nothing is lighting up. Please help!

If you are able, try resetting the SMC. If that does not work, take it in for diagnosis.

  • I turned off my ipod touch but it wont turn back on its stuck on the apple logo

i turned off my ipod while there were apps dowloading. but its taking a long time to turn back on its just stuck on the apple logo what do i do or do i wait?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Macbook reboots after closing & opening the lid

I haven't found any threads as of yet of other users experiencing this issue and wanted to post to see if anyone had any ideas on how to resolve this. Just for grins, I had a spare hard drive and erased the drive and performed a clean installation of Mountain Lion. The problem persisted with the clean installation with no restored data or Bootcamp partition.
I have a 2010 Macbook Pro with a Bootcamp partition. One thing to note, when booting into the Windows 7 partition, I don't have the issue when closing the lid and going into sleep mode.
Thanks in advance for any feedback,
    Dan

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried both suggested articles and will keep an eye out on the system for the next day or two. So far it hasn't rebooted since performing the corrective action.
    Thanks,
    Dan
