My macbook turns black while active, my macbook turns black while active? why does this happen?

My Macbook turns black while active even if sleep mode is not active. it turns on by moving the track pad? Whats wrong with it?

The Mountain Lion installer looks at your internal drive to make certain that it's error-free before continuing installation. You should have an application named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder now so you shouldn't have to download it again. Do this...
Boot to your Lion recovery partition by holding down both the Command and the R keys while booting. Open Disk Utility from the Recovery partition and select your hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it) and click on Verify Disk. If you come up with any errors, click on Repair Disk. At the end of the cycle you will get a message that the disk was successfully repaired or a message that the hard drive could not be repaired.
If you're able to repair the disk, just reboot as normal and open the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" and the installation will proceed. If Disk Utility was unable to repair the disk, you need to get to your local Apple Store as soon as possible so that they can see if the disk is salvageable or beyond repair.
Good luck,
Clinton

I advise to reply to the one you want to reply to.
You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
    I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

If it sounds like a RAM issue it could be one of the RAM chips has failed. You could try removing the RAM one at a time and see if it starts with one still installed.

  • When I edit photo's in Iphoto on my ipad2, it decreases the resolution. Why does this happen and does this also happen on a macbook air?

I have made pictures on high resolution with a Canon 100D camera, which means the pictures are 5-6 MB.
But when I edit them on my Ipad2 in Iphoto it decreases the size and resolution of the pictures to about 0.5MB
Does anyone know why Iphoto decreases the resolution of my pictures when I edit them?
And does this also happen with Iphoto on a macbook air?
    Thank you.
    Onno

I have made pictures on high resolution with a Canon 100D camera, which means the pictures are 5-6 MB.
Are the photos raw photos or jpeg? When you edit raw photos in iPhoto on your iPad, the raw image will not be processed, only the embedded jpeg. That will reduce the resolution of the image considerably.
But when I edit them on my Ipad2 in Iphoto it decreases the size and resolution of the pictures to about 0.5MB
How do you save he edited version after editing?  That will determine, if the image will be scaled down,
For a full-resolution edit you need to share the edited photo to the Camera Roll,
see this help page:   Edit a photo
If you edit a photo in the iPhoto Camera Roll album, the edited photo automatically appears in the Camera Roll on your iOS device, at the resolution of your device. If you want a full-resolution version of the edited photo sent to the Camera Roll, tap and tap Camera Roll. The full-resolution photo appears in the Camera Roll, and is transferred to your computer when you sync the Camera Roll with your computer.
And does this also happen with Iphoto on a macbook air?
iPhoto on a Mac has a lossless workflow. iPhoto will always store the original image file that you imported and compute an edited version from this stored original.  The quality of the photo you will see outside iPhoto will depend on the methode you use for sharing. You can export at the original size or scaled down, depending on the purpose you want teh photo for, small for email and web presentation, full versions for printing, for example.

  • Using data tab causes SD users to be black-listed! Why is this happening?

Several SQL Developer users in our workgroup were recently black-listed by our IT department for submitting queries that ran for hours against large tables. Many of these users emphatically stated that they had not submitted ANY queries. Finally someone theorized that clicking on the data tab to view a few rows of data may be causing SD to to submit a SELECT * query to Oracle. Yikes! There are now hundreds of users out there using SD with more coming on board every week across the enterprise. Can such an innocuous action of clicking on a tab actually be causing this problem and if so how can we globally prevent SD from doing this?

    >
If what folks on this forum are saying is true, that unbeknownst to the user, clicking on the data tab is, in the background, submitting a SELECT * FROM for the entire table, then the SD software should be smart enough and courteous enough to give the user a warning and choice to continue or limit the number of rows delevered! No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
    >
The number of rows actually fetched each time from the server uses the 'Sql Array Fetch Size' preference setting. This setting is '50' by default. You access it by 'Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced.
The user can choose to scroll through as many rows as desired. If the user performs no scrolling beyond the 50 rows then no more rows will be fetched.
    >
That is precisely what SQL Developer should do out of the box!
    >
And that IS what SQL Develper does 'out of the box'.

Finally someone theorized that clicking on the data tab to view a few rows of data may be causing SD to to submit a SELECT * query to Oracle
    >
A 'SELECT * FROM myTable' query will NOT run for hours. That query will almost always perform a full table scan of the table since rarely will any index contain ALL of the columns of the table including NULL columns (null columns are not indexed by heap indexes; only by bitmap indexes).
A full table scan (without an ORDER BY to sort the data) simply reads every block of the table. That reading will not prevent any other user/session from doing whatever DML they need to run.
A user can elect to SORT the data and in that case Oracle will have to sort the ENTIRE table BEFORE it can return any data to the user. A sort can definitely use a lot of resources in the background and can definitely interfere with other users/sessions that need those resources.
But the SORT issue will apply to ANY tool being used including 'SQL Assistant'. No tool exists that can feed 20 sorted rows to the user BEFORE the data has been sorted. And no tool exists that can exert ANY control over the Oracle sort process. The tool will NOT get any data until the sort is 100% complete.
Always make sure you are comparing the same use cases when you make comparisons like that.
    1. Basic use of sql developer by selecting a data tab WILL issue a SELECT * FROM . . . query to the backed
    2. If the filter options have NOT been modified to include sorting the query will execute very quickly and fetch the first 50 rows. Additional rows will ONLY be fetched if the user asks for them.
    3. A pure SELECT * FROM query will NOT run for hours on the backend.
    4. ANY tool that issues a SELECT * FROM . . . ORDER BY query will cause Oracle to perform a full table scan.
    5. The likely cause of what appears to be a simple SELECT * FROM query is usually a user that selects the data tab and then goes home for the weekend leaving their machine on. That query will remain the the library cache and the session will remain but there will be no real activity or resources being used.
If you have ANY evidence that contradicts any of the above please post the specifics.

  • Dreaded Black Screen and automatic shut-down.  Why does this happen ?

Why do I get a Black Screen and automatic shut-down ?  My iMac felt warm...and I never hear a fan go on..could overheating be why it shuts down?

    Hi Tish,
    A few things.
If you bough this iMac used with no original install/hardware test discs, you can call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE ask for software sales and tell them you need a set of iMac replacement install/hardware test discs. You'll need to give the Apple rep your iMac's serial number.to get the appropriate discs. There will be around a $16 or $17 U.S. charge for discs.
Since your iMac is still freezing, I now wonder if it is RAM and/or hard drive related.
Your iMac maybe freezing because of serious lack of RAM.
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
You only have 1 GB of RAM installed.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard really needs more RAM than this.
Intel versions of OS X use more CPU, GPU, RAM and hard drive resources.
OS X, running alone (without any other applications running) can use up between 2 and 4 GBs of RAM memory.
Youf iMac model can 4 GBs of RAM, but only about 3.1 to 3.3 GBs of it will be recognized.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Without being able to run the Apple hardware test we have no way of knowing the condition of your iMac's hard drive.
The freezing could, also, be caused from a failing hard drive.
If you do not have any backup of your data, this is the time to create one.
Backup your important data to either DVD discs, flash drive/s or purchase an external hard drive to backup all,of your data to.
You can make an exact clone of the data, on your internal hard drive, using a data cloning like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. OR purchase the external drive and use OS X Time Machine to automatically backup your entire internal drive.

  • After installing Firefox 4 Beta, videos on Youtube do not play at all and the only thing that shows up is a black screen. Why is this happening?

I don't know what the problem is. I installed the new update plug-in for Flash and it's still not working. I don't know what do do next.

No, that's not it. I tried both ways: 64-bit flash plugin, with Firefox in 64-bit mode. Latest 32-bit flash plugin with flash in 32-bit mode. No go.
I see the first frame of the video. Video does not update except in chunks, portions of the screen, every few seconds. Sometimes there is no audio.
Curiously, other video sites, such as vimeo, are fine. Also, some embedded youtube videos on other sites are also fine. But the problem is consistently there on youtube.com.

My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. So take it into an Apple store and have it diagnosed and fixed under the warranty. There is some type of hardware problem that only Apple can fix.
