My MacBook will recognize my mini DVI to video but not to DVI

My set up is a apple brand mini dvi to dvi connected to a dvi to hdmi cable. It worked fine for the last six months connected to my HDTV.
The other day I hooked it up and my screen didn't flash like normal when you hook something into the mini dvi out. System Profiler didn't detect a display either. When I tried my mini dvi to Video everything worked fine (but looked awful). I concluded it was the mini dvi to dvi connector because nothing would happen when I connected it to my computer but the video one would always work.
So I went and bought another connector and it doesn't work either! Am I missing something here, what can I do?

See if the 10.5.8 update fixes the problem. It has been fixing display issues for others.

My 2012 Macbook Pro recognizes that it is plugged in but says not charging. The LED light on the L shaped power adapter is not illuminated. I've tried cleaning it, updating my software, everything on this Apple support page: Portables: L-shaped MagSafe power adapter does not charge computer and LED indicator light does not illuminate
Is there anything else I can try before I have to take it into the Apple Store? I live in a rural area and it is about a 3 hour trip to the nearest Apple Store.

I have also reset the SMC with no avail. :/

If you haven't tried re syncing the apps using iTunes..
Connect the iPad to your computer. Select it under Devices left side of the iTunes window. Select Apps from the menu, make sure the boxes next to those apps are selected then click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.

Put the G4 into Target Disk Mode and open Migration Assistant on the new MBP. Your G4 needs to be running 10.5.8.

  • Mini-dvi to video does not work

I have the 13-inch white macbook purchased in 2008. I just bought a mini-dvi to video cord and tried hooking it up to my TV using RCA and S-video and neither work. When I plug the cord into my computer, the resolution on my computer changes and then when I plug it into my TV it does not appear on the TV. When I change the display resolution on my computer to the lowest option, I can see the display from the computer on the TV rapidly moving across the screen and it is extremely distorted and doesn't appear to have any color. I chose detect displays and this did not do anything. Am I doing something wrong? Why won't my computer image display on the TV?

I also have the same issue. SVideo / RCA adapter purchased from Fry's Electronics. Apple Brand. Worked the week I bought it, and after a couple of updates, stopped being reliable.
Now, after some trial and error, I can get it to work, its just painfully convoluted.
The trick for my system is to keep trying it, (re-seating the adapter at the mini-dvi connection) and eventually it works.
Iv found that It only works when it "latches" to the video adapter instantly.
Sometimes its 3 times. Sometimes its 15. Quite random.
Seeing as how I don't like watching movies on a 13" screen. I just have to be patient.
I have been searching/waiting for some kind of apple firmware, or video adapter update that adresses this, as I dont believe its anything more than a software bug.
Any useful info would be much appreciated.

  • Airport extreme will connect to some iPhones and iPads, but not all, and will not connect to MacBooks.

Why will the airport extreme not connect internet to macbook or some iPhones? It will connect to all our iPhone 6's and iPads but not to the MacBooks. The macbook says wi-fi has the self assigned ip address of ___,____,____,___ and will not be able to connect to the internet,

Have you done a full restart of the network in correct order?
Shut down everything.. OFF not standby.
    Power on in order.
    Modem.. wait 2min
    Router.. (Extreme??) wait 2min
Macbook.. Only the Macbook.. do restart anything else yet.
    Any luck??
No luck reset the Extreme to factory and redo the setup.. this time use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Bonus for names <10 characters.
Use passwords with the same rules.. only can be 8-20 characters.. mixed case and numbers.
    Try again with the Macbook..
No luck give explicit details of the setup of the whole network.

  • DVI to Video Adaptor not reliable.

I received my DVI to Video Adaptor (s-video and composite) today. The first boot up was to no video, a couple restarts later and the login screen was up. I used the mini for a couple hours with the composite video and my tv and then turned it off. I came back later to again no video and after a few more power cycles... needless to say I have the mini hooked back up to a VGA display.
Has anyone had any problems with this adaptor? Any advice as to how to get it to reliably display video?
    Thanks.

Does the image seem to triplicate across the screen and jump around with all kinds of distortions? If so it appears you may have the same problem many iBook users were having...

You can take the time to read through all those posts, but the news isn't good I'm afraid. It's something to do with the mac thinking the TV is a VGA monitor, so sends out the wrong signal (nobody really knows, Apple never acknowledged the problem). The only person to have fixed it had to have his logic board replaced!
That was an iBook though, this may be different to your problem (you hope).
I certainly hope! I was planning to get a mac mini soon to setup a kind of media center. I was one of the unlucky ones with the iBook problem, so this is very bad news if the Mac minis are having the same problem!
Good luck! Keep us posted if you make any progress.

  • DVI to Video - TV not recognized!

hi excuse me for adding this post since the subject above came up in another post of mine with a different subject line...
so i have hooked up a cinema display and added apples DVI-Video adapter to the second output of my NV7800GT card. then, when i go to "detect displays" in the display prefs nothing happens. i switched the cale positions as someone suggested but this had no effect. i have the TV on, and have tried both the S-VHS and the RCA composite outputs off of the adapter.
    what am i doing wrong?

  • ITunes recognizes other mass storage devices/network but not iPod

When I plug my iPod into the computer, Windows and iTunes recognize that the iPod is connected. A windows bubble from the sys tray tells me that a mass storage device was detected, and a iPod icon appears in iTunes. However, iTunes does not connect to the iPod; for some reason it connects itself to the network (ethernet connection) or to my external hard drive (USB connection), in that order. It will recognize the network as the iPod, unless it is disconnected, and then it will recognize the hard drive as the iPod. If neither of these devices are connected, then the computer doesn't recognize the iPod at all unless I restart it. Thus, to get the computer to recognize my iPod, I have to disconnect my network, and my external hard drive, restart the computer and plug in the iPod. After this point, I can reconnect both devices and everything works. What's going on?

    hi ephmike!
that sounds like classic symptoms of a Windows drive letter confusion problem. let's see if this document will help:

  • Upgraded MacBook A1181 to 8x Superdrive, Drive Has Power But Not Recognized

    Model: MacBook A1181 Black
    OS: 10.6.4
    Other: 13", Black, 2GB Ram, 500GB HDD, 2GHz
Yesterday I upgraded my Black 2Ghz Core Duo A1181 Macbook from a 4x UJ-857-C Superdrive to an 8x GSA-810-N Superdrive because the UJ-857-C had stopped working. The replacement is a NEW Apple branded Superdrive.
After completing the hardware replacement, I booted the computer and heard the new Superdrive get power during the boot sequence, so w/o checking system profiler, I put a DVD in the drive. It accepted the disk and sounded like it was reading it, but no disk mounted.
I then checked Disk Utility and there was no disk present and in System Profiler, the drive is not recognized at all. Thus the eject button doesn't work, so the disk is stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the drive would not be picked up by the computer? I don't believe the SATA cable is faulty since the drive is receiving power, and I don't believe the drive is faulty since it accepted the disk and all sounds were normal. Is there some type of procedure I need to go through to get the MacBook to recognize the new drive?
Thanks - Any help is appreciated.

When you say "not recognized" do you mean when you look in Apple/About this Mac/More Info/Disk Burning that you see nothing?
    My entry looks like this:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:
    Firmware Revision: BP08
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
An appledrive shouldnt need a driver install.
