My macbook won't reconize my canon vixia hf r20 when I plug it in, usb

So the other day I got a Canon Vixia HF R20 for Christmas. I took some video and I hooked it up to my macbook, by usb cable that came with the camera, and my mac won't reconize it. It worked on my brother's pc. I turned it on and nothing. The thing is though that it picks up the sd card when I plug it in on imovie. But i use final cut express, so you may know I just want it to reconize it and let me go straight into final cut express. thANKs

First see the MagSafe troubleshooting tips:Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters and check to see that all looks ok.  You might want to try using another charger in case the charger is faulty.  If that doesn't help, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test the system to see where the fault is.

  • Canon Vixia HF R20 - How do I turn off the date display?

How do I turn off the date display on my Canon Vixia HF R20? I do not want the date on my videos. I searched the manual and googled it and can't find an answer.

    Hello DaisyKary,
When shooting with the VIXIA HF R20 you would be able to turn off most of the displays by pressing the [DISP. Batt. Info] button through a cycle.  It will change what is displayed on the camcorder's LCD panel.
If this is an urgent technical support matter I would urge you to contact Canon technical support directly for further assistance.

  • Videos shot on Canon Vixia HF R20 are jerky on iMac. Do I need more RAM?

Hi. I have a new Canon Vixia HF R20 video recorder. I learned here how to upload videos, but they are very jerky. The first few frames seem OK but then the sound continues and the picture remains frozen, then even the sound breaks up. The red bar continues smoothly to move across the thumbnails. Should I have more RAM or something? I have closed all other progams and restarted but this does not help. I have 10.5.8 and the following:
    Model Name:
    iMac
      Model Identifier:
    iMac8,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache:
    6 MB
      Memory:
    2 GB
      Bus Speed:
    1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:
    IM81.00C1.B00
      SMC Version (system):
    1.29f1
    Thank you in advance!

Is your footage HD? Or what is the pixel size of your videos? I see you have 2 GB, which is at the low end for processing video, especially if it is HD. I have 12 GB and find that is better. I'd at least double yours or max it out; see OWC (macsales.com):
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400
As you can see, Apple officially supports 4 GB, but OWC has tested 6 GB, so the decision is yours.

My macbook pro running OS X 10.8.3 freezes when I plug an adapter into the displayport, even when nothing is connected to the other (vga) end. Anyone know a solution? I have used this adapter with a macbook air and it works flawlessly, but the moment I plug into the minidisplayport the macbook pro freezes with a little spinning color wheel that goes on and on. . .

    Hello there, sarhang27753.
First thing that would come to mind to resolve the issue would be SMC and PRAM resets. I've linked Knowledge Base articles below:

  • When I plug in an USB stick, my MacBook Air disables all USB devices

When I plug in an USB device, my MacBook Air disables all USB devices and the keyboard. It looks like it would freeze, but all applications still work. It just does not respond to neither keyboard nor mouse. The only solution is to force-restart it. What can I do? I am using Lion and have updated it. The same error occured with Snow Leopard as well. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens and sometimes not. I have a suspicion it is related to the devices power consumption in corelation with the battery charging status.
I am using a MacBook Air 13", late 2010 version.

Have you tried plugging the flash drive into a different Mac to see if it works? The Air shouldn't have any problem with it, I use a couple of flash drives in mine, although I don't have a pq1. Did you try both USB ports on the Air? Do you have another flash drive you can test in the Air, or a different USB device, like a hard drive or printer?
The only thing I can think of is either a bad flash drive, or a bad USB port on the Air. Sorry, can't be more help than that.

My HP 2355 won't show up in AirPrint? I have it plugged in via USB and set it up on my Mac mini with the airport express network. Any advice?

Unless your HP printer is an AirPrint-ready device, just connecting it to the USB port of the AirPort Express base station will not make it so.
On the other hand, connecting a non-AirPrint printer to the base station's USB port it can be shared out by the base station's print server. Please see the following Apple Support article for details.

  • Why won't iMovie recognize canon vixia hv40

I need to just simply get video off of my canon vixia hv40 with iMovie, but it won't recognize my video camera.

Are you using a Firewire cable to connect the camera to your MacBook Pro? Ensure also that there are no other Firewire devices connected to your MBP.

  • When I plug in my USB Thumb drive (PNY 8Gb) the MacBook Pro does not see it, nothing happens.  Is there something else I need to do?

When I plug a PNY 8Gb USB thumb drive, nothing happens and the MacBook Pro can't see it. Is there something I need to do?

If you are looking for it in Desktop, it's normal that you feel like your Mac doesn't detect it. By default, OS X doesn't show external drives in Desktop, so you have to access to them from Finder. To do it, open a Finder window and choose your external drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices".
If you want to show the external disk in Desktop, open a Finder window, go to the Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and mark "External drives"

  • Macbook display randomly garbles. Corrects for a while when I plug in an external monitor. What's up?

I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro that has some random display issues.
    1. The laptop display will put a 1-inch black bar down the screen and shift everything to the right.  It fixes itself for a while when I plug an external monitor into the mini-display port, but then does the black bar thing again.
    2. Screen just totally garbles and I have to do a hard restart. Plugging in the external monitor seems to correct this for a while, too.....
I went into System Settings and unchecked the box so that it would only use the discrete graphics, and it doesn't help.
Failing GPU?  Discrete or on-board? I'm guessing failing discrete GPU......
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi.
PC disks should be FAT32 formatted as they come and if you out the disk into an external drive enclosure be it USB or Firewire, your iMac should be able to mount it and read it.
If you want to use this "re-convert" hard drive as your "permanent" external drive for your iMac and nothing else, I would advise you to reformat the disk to the GUID format (partition), which is recommended for all Intel Macs, because they read and write to external drives a little differently from their PPC counterparts.
Here's the link to how to reformat/re-partition a drive to GUID:

  • My Apple TV stalled during an update and now just shows an image of it being plugged into a USB. It won't complete the update and does nothing when I plug it into my Mac via USB.

2 Apple TVs. The first won't reboot, it stalled during an update and now shows a picture of a UBS plug. Ive tried to plug into my computer, nothing happens. At a standtill.
The second Apple TV works but only if I send something via Airplay. The remote no longer has any affect. The light on the front of the Apple TV blinks when I push a buttom on the remote but nothing happens.
Any Ideas? I am starting to think I need to replace them. Thanks.

Ok, with itunes open on the pc, plug one end of the usb cord into the computer, but not connected to the ipad.
now, press the power button on the ipad until it turns off.
Then, press and hold the home button on the ipad at the same you plug the usb cord into the ipad. DON'T LET GO OF THE HOME BUTTON.
Keep holding the home button until you see the recovery mode message pop on the itunes window.
When that happens, you should now be able to restore.

  • My MacBook Air freezes when I plug in any usb device or open iPhoto. Please Help?

I have a MacBook Air that is currently running Mountain Lion OS X (version 10.8.2). Every time that I plug in any type of USB device (trackpad, USB jumpdrive, Time Machine, etc.) my mac freezes and I have to shut it down via the power button. The same issue occurs whenever I open iPhoto. Has anyone else ran into this issue or know how I can fix this? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • My MacBook Pro blacks-out when I plug in any USB device. It then doesn't start up until I open the bottom casing and reconnect the battery connector and start it up again. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • Macbook has to restart when i plug in a usb item

    Dave,
Thanks for your reply.  After four very lengthy tech support chat sessions, the last tech support person (30 July, 2013) suggested that it was probably some sort of conflict with the drivers for the USB ports on my Dell computer.  The case number you requested is still open and is:  0184509373.
I spent a lot of time during the last tech chat trying to determine a graceful way to quit the application before using any USB devices.  Just clicking on the X to close the window does not close the application as it still shows up as an active process in Windows Task Manager.  Our conversation kept getting confused between the Creative Cloud application and the more global Creative Cloud and which you were quitting or logging out of.  Adobe should have kept the name “Application Manager” for the application.
After experimenting, I’ve devised the following work around.  It’s a nuisance, but it seems to work a little better than just crashing the application.  I open the Creative Cloud desktop application and choose “Quit Creative Cloud.”  I can then use a USB device without a crash.  After disconnecting the USB device, I restart the Creative Cloud application by double clicking on the icon on my desktop.  Finally, I can use Photoshop CC and Bridge.  If I don’t restart the Creative Cloud application first, Photoshop asks me to register the software again.  This puzzles me as I didn’t think the Creative Cloud application had to be running in order to use Photoshop.
Thanks for your attention and assistance.
    Charles
