My Macbook won't run any discs?

I've Treid Dvd's, and games and neither are running, It just spits them back out?

Hi, Teggle.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This could be an issue with the disc itself.  I would recommend trying various discs, DVDs and audio.  Here are the best steps to go through when experiencing issues with your SuperDrive.
The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Make sure the drive is not upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up.
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
The MacBook Air SuperDrive is designed to be used with MacBook Air and Mac mini computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. For best results, connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X 10.7 Lion or later: Open System Information by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click System Report.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

  • MSI GE70 won't run any discs

I'm new to this forum and hopefully I've posted this in the right section.
My MSI Ge70 suddenly won't read any discs. First I tried a game and then several DVDs
I'm not all that good with computers, but I did make the PC search the net and see if it run with the latest driver (which it said it did).
I also deactivated and then reactivated the DVD-ROM drive.
This happened from one day to the next and I really don't have any ideas except for the lens being damaged or something,
    Appreaciate any help

Well, if the drive itself is still recognized and just suddenly can't read discs it is most likely faulty. Try restorig default Windows to ensure there is no malware on your pc preventing the drive to read.

If the machine is over 4 years old, have the PRAM battery replaced. If the machine is less than 4 years old, look at these possibilities*: http://www.macmaps.com/cdrfailure.html

  • Disc Drive won't take any disc

I have a new MacBook Pro computer, its only a few months old. I have only used the disc drive once and it worked great! I tried using it again and it won't work at all now. It won't feed the disc into the computer. What can I do?

I'm not trying to sound condescending but have you tried pushing the disc in almost all the way? If so, try a reboot of the computer and give it another try. Still no luck? Try running the apple hardware test to see if it says there are any hardware issues.

  • Brand new macbook won't run off battery, only when plugged in

I just go my new macbook last week and being new to mac computers, I didn't realize that it won't run from just the battery power until last night. The battery light shows it's fully charged. If i'm working with it plugged in and it becomes unplugged, it shuts down and when I reconnect the power cord, it resumes from the same webpage or whatever I was last working on. I opened up the battery compartment and removed the battery and then held the power button for 5 seconds, but that didn't fix the problem. Does anyone know what I might try or if something needs to be set up in order to run off the battery? Thanks! Leigh

    Hello leighdk,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can by all means take some good advise from the people on this board in response to you problem.
But here is the best advise, especially since you're new to Mac.
Call Apple Care or take it back to the store and have them check it out. It is under warranty. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the Mac for a completely different or give it back because you do not like it. they may try to charge you a restocking fee but this should not be the case since there is an issue with you machine.
Call Apple, see what they say... Then if you can't get it resolved then post back and maybe we can give you some sound advise.

  • MACBOOK WON'T RUN OFF BATTERY

My MacBook will not run off the battery.
I replaced the battery. Now when the machine boots the battery icon indicates that it is calculating for a few minutes and then displays an X in the icon.
I click on the icon at get the message that NO BATTERIES AVAILABLE.
The battery is charged and I have reset the SMC.
From all of the disussion groups this appears to be a common problem.
    IS THERE A SOLUTION?

Xine depends on curl, which depends on libidn, but the maintainer forgot to namcap, so pacman doesn't know libidn should be on your system. Tell pacman you want it and xine works again.

  • My MacBook has question marks on all folders and won't run ANY program. Help!

A week ago I was editing some photographs in Photoshop CS 5 extended. My computer has been running slow for a while so I thought that I would finish these files and then clear it of some photos since I know I've recently uploaded several gbs onto it.
The next day it was frozen. I had to shut it down and restart. It came on and now every folder has a question mark on it and none of the programs will open. They just bounce up and down and then the menu bar says Application not responding.
I have no idea what I need to do. I was going to update to Lion but I'm unsure if that's what I should do or if it needs some TLC from the apple store.
    Help?

A professional will image your drive and attempt a bit by bit file recovery method directly from the drive itself.
You see when you delete something, it's not quite erased yet, but the space the file took is available to be overwritten, so it's only a matter of time before that occurs and the file is really gone.
So they will recover what they can, and then restore your machine and it's software and return the recovered files.
The TimeMachine is certainly going to assist, good thing you got it.
The trick is to hire someone and quit using the computer until they rescue you, show you in person how to rescue yourself .
    Good Luck

  • ? MacBook won't recognize external disc drive

My MacBook's internal disc drive quit, so I'm trying an external Samsung SE-208 slim portable DVD writer.   It worked once, but now the mac won't recognize it.  I tried a DVD switcher app - no luck.  The Samsung plugs into the USB port, starts up OK then disappears from itunes, the desktop, Finder - It's gone. Can I completely disable the internal disc drive?  Would that help?  I appreciate ANY help.   I'm not skilled at these things so you need to spoon feed me.  thanks

  • DVD/CD drive won't read any discs

I have a Satellite A660 PSAW0U-0J3040, and the DVD drive, which has worked fine up until now, suddenly won't play DVDs or CDs. The last thing I did with it was rip a CD, which worked fine, but then it would not play the DVD I put in. The drive is recognized, and the hardware information says it is working properly, but when I put in a disc, it does not recognize that there is a disc in the drive. A green light flashes when I first put it in, then turns orange. In My Computer, if I click to open the drive, it ejects and tells me to insert a disc. Same thing happens with a blank disc. Restarting the computer & updating driver didn't help. Is there anything I can try to fix this, or is the drive just broken?
If so, any idea where I could find a replacement one? The link from Toshiba's support page doesn't work, and I don't know the model number of the drive. In fact, I'm not even sure how to remove the drive. It doesn't seem to just pop out like the one on my old laptop did.

Sounds like a good plan. The next troubleshooting steps I would have suggested were to use Microsoft System Restore and, if that fails to solve it, to try a full recovery. However, hopefully the replacement works in your computer!

  • MacBook won't boot from disc

On Sunday my ten-month-old MacBook froze up and made some nasty clicking noises. I forced a restart, but now it just boots to a white screen and, after a good five minutes or more, eventually displays the blinking, question-mark folder.
I'm quite certain the drive is toast, but what I find more interesting (and in some ways more irritating) is that I can't for the life of me get it to boot from a DVD. I've tried my Leopard disc and the install disc that came with my computer. I hold C while booting, the drive spins for a bit, and eventually it just spits the disc back out. I've also tried holding D with the original install disc to boot the Apple Hardware Test and get the same result. I've tried holding Option to get a list of boot volumes and just get a white screen with a mouse cursor. I've tried resetting the power management unit and zapping the PRAM, as suggested in the "What to do if your Mac won't boot" list, and have noticed no change.
Thoughts? There must be something else I can do.

You may have a bigger problem than just the Hard Drive. Call Apple support or go by an Apple store if your near one and talk to them. You've done everything you can do. It will be up to them now. Be thankful it's still under warranty.

  • Macbook won't run software updates...11 of them.

I just realized my assistant has not updated her Macbook (my macbook) in a year in a half. Ouch.  I successfully installed 10.6.8 but cannot get the 11 other software updates to run. I'm specifically in need of a java update. Rather than running the 11 updates, it automatically skips to "re-start" screen but never actually runs the updates.  I realize it's likely because it's beens so long and there are too many - what do I do?

If you know what they are, you can download them manually from the Apple download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ . Before applying any, use Disk Utlity (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) and repair permissions, apply the update, and repair permissions afterwards. Do this for each update needed.

  • IBook G4 Superdrive won't read any discs

Few days ago my iBook's Superdrive worked perfectly and I never had any issues. I would barely use my drive and I never used any dirty or scratched discs in order to avoid issues, anyway, today I found some burned music discs in my room and I was curious to know what songs they had, but then when I inserted the disc it just kept loading and loading until it ejected by itself, I then checked again if it was scratched and it wasn't, I tried another disc and no luck, I restarted the computer and the usual noise that the drive makes when the computer starts changed and sounds kind of rough like its forced, it did't sound like that before I inserted the CD. What could the problem be? Why would the superdrive die if I rarely used it? Also, the system profile detects the drive but the disk utility won't show the drive. Any ideas? I really don't want to change the drive.
    Message was edited by: Amed

If your SuperDrive will not mount the install disk or commercially recorded CDs it would seem the drive is not functioning well and may be on the way out. With the older tray-loading drives it was easy to access the inside of the drive and clean the laser with a alcohol towelette. With the internal drives that is more of a challenge and you not only have to remove the drive but to open it up, and even after that the issue may not necessarily be the laser.
Possible options are: a replacement SuperDrive, an external firewire drive or using Firewire Target Disk Mode with the assistance of a second firewire capable Mac.

  • My macbook won't open any .exe files! help!

Whenever I download an .exe file, my macbook automatically opens it with my photoshop cs3 program--it's really irritating me because many programs that I NEED (for school and such) are .exe files and I can't figure out which application to use to open it.
    Any suggestions?

.exe files are Windows applications with a few exceptions that are self-extracting compressed files. You'll need to be running Windows in your system, via a virtualization system (such as Parallels Workstation or VMWare Fusion) or BootCamp to use Windows applications.
