My MacBook won't start up after downloading new iOS

I finally decided to download the newsy update for my 2012 MacBook Pro, which I believe to be the iOS x Mavericks (? not 100% sure, just whichever is the most recent, I think before Mavericks it was Mountain Lion) and it downloaded and restarted, but was stuck on the start up white screen with apple logo. I forced shutdown and then tried to start it again, in which it was stuck at the start up screen again. I then forced shutdown and tried a safeboot with the shift key but even before the safeboot bar is even 1/10 of the way down, it shuts down again. This happens every time I try to power on or safeboot. I'm unsure exactly what the iOS disc that supposedly came with the notebook is, and so I'm unsure of what to do next, any help would be appreciated thank you!

If the Safe boot has failed, I see two options, one is to try and reinstall the original OS or two take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

  • MacBook won't start up after installing new Memory

I have a Macbook White from the year of 2009. It is currently running with 2GB of Memory. I bought 4GB Memory online for my MacBook, so I could get it to run twice as fast.
I turned off my MacBook, removed the battery, and then unscrewed that 'silver thing'. The one that protects and covers the Memory. I took out the two memory 'parts' and then I tried to insert the new ones. I did not get any kind of 'click sound' or what so ever. They were hard to push in and no matter what I did, I was able to pull them out again without using that 'flicker' or what it is called. The thing used to pull the Memory out. I then inserted my old Memory to check if that worked and it did. They made a very small sound and the Memory sort of disappeared into the machine. They were not loose. The major problem was that the other two new Memory parts were 'loose' and would not 'lock' in the computer. When I tried to turn on my MacBook after inserting the new Memory, the screen was black and it made a weird sound like every 3th second. It did this for about 20 seconds and then I turned it off using the power button.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks for reading.

You probably bought the wrong RAM that has different pin assignments, so it won't fit in the slot. Return it.

Doubling the memory does not make your computer run twice as fast.

  • '09 MacBook Pro won't start up after installing new hard drive and restoring from an external hard drive.

I am in the process of replacing my hard drive and have run into a problem. I reinstalled OSX 10.6.3 using a DVD I bought off Amazon. That went well and I then restored my hard drive using an external and Time Machine.
After that, things still looked good but I couldn't log in to my user (and access my MacBook) because my password wasn't working even though my hint was correct. Yes, I am POSITIVE my password was correct; I even tried a couple other passwords to humor myself. I then gave up and decided to restart the computer.
Now my MacBook won't start up at all. It goes o a gray screen with a still loading symbol for a couple minutes and then goes to a solid light blue screen. I've tried starting up while holding command+R and I tied holding just command and neither worked.
Did I install the wrong OSX because I didn't use the same DVD that came with the laptop? Is there something wrong with my hard drive already?
    Please help =[

  • Private browsing isn't showing up after downloading new ios 8.0 on my iPad 2

After downloading the new IOS 8.0 and then the update IOS 8.0.02, I am unable to clear my browser history because the CLEAR button simply doesn't function. Also, I learned that with IOS 8.0 I am supposed to be able to enable private browsing by clicking on the double square located in the top right hand corner of a safari page and then locating the Private Browsing option at the bottom of that particular window. However, there is no Private Browsing option down there. From pictures on the internet, I can see where it is supposed to be but it is simply not there. Lastly, if I go to my Safari Settings there is an option that says Clear History and Website Data. But guess what? That text is also a light grey color just like the Clear function under the History tab that I mentioned earlier. Neither can be clicked on! What is going on?

Tap the two boxes. Private should be on the top of the next page.
Go to settings> general> restrictions and remove all restrictions, that should fix all your problems.

  • MacBook won't start up after installing iTunes 8 & updates ...??

My MacBook is a little more than a year old (read, no longer under warranty ...) and it's currently in a coma.
Nothing was out of the ordinary prior to the MacBook going weird - I downloaded a bunch of photos from my camera, ejected a USB drive and immediately after that I tried to launch iPhoto - it froze and I tried to force quit (several times) without success. I then pressed the power button, and that was the last time I saw my desktop.
Whenever I press the power button to try to turn it on, the Apple logo comes on (but no spinning wheelie) and then a grey screen comes up saying my MacBook needs to be restarted - either press the power button for a few seconds or try the reset button (which is where???).
Anyway, for the next two and a half hours, I tried everything I could find on the forums to revive my MacBook. I did the PRAM thing, pulled out the battery, did the Cmd+S/V gig (that went no where either, just got stuck on a black screen with lots of words after a while), got my old OS X install disc out (couldn't find the Leopard at 2:30AM ...) ran through the whole repair thing ... Point is, I'm still looking at the screen that's telling me to restart my computer.
I've gone through the forums here and it seems like some people with year-old'ish MacBooks who have installed iTunes 8 as well as the latest software updates seem to have the same problem. Now I know it's my fault I didn't backup my data so I can't just wipe the HDD and hope for the best. If I knew installing iTunes 8 would cause this, I wouldn't have bought the new iPod Touch 32GB, which requires the iTunes 8 to work. And I usually install all the updates Apple tells me to install ... maybe this is what you get for being gullible.
Anyway, I think I'm going to have to take it to a service centre, who has quoted me at least $75 to $250 to have the thing "diagnosed", let alone fixed.
How do I know if I broke the MacBook or iTunes & the software updates did? Or are MacBooks really pre-programmed to die after the one year warranty expires ......?? Eitherway, I'm really put off by Apple right now.

    Another victim!
Try booting up from the install disc (insert and hold down C), then run disk utility and and check your drive for errors, and then if possible try fixing them.
This didn't work for me, however after deleting my hard drive and repeating the above procedure no errors were found, and after a reinstallation of OSX my computer is working although extremely slow.
As for recovering your data I'm not sure. So far I haven't heard of it being done, although I have heard of new hard drives needing to be purchased.
Good luck. And spread the word!

  • MacBook won't start up after update

Last night I updated my MacBook and now it will not turn on past the White screan with the grey apple logo.
I reset the PRAM an the PMU, held down the D key an tested for hardware problems and nothing has helped.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated as I am working on an important project on my laptop.
    Thanks in advance, Hannah.

put you the mac os x cd in the drive and when you start up the system press the C letter and hold it until it is loaded with the cd then find the open disk utility option from the utillities section on the top bar then try to verify the permissions and repair them this should work and bring up the os

  • Macbook won't start up after updates.

I installed some software updates yesterday inlcuding Itunes 10.5, Safari and some other things. But once it tried to restart all I got was a black screen and a constant whirring noise. I left it for a while but nothing happened, occasionally it flickered for a split second.
I held down the power button and restarted it and it worked but would shut down everytime I lowered the lid. Then I put it to sleep manually and when I tried to use it, the black screen and whirring noises came back and it's still like that. I'm not sure what to do, help?

  • MacBook won't start up after overheat shutdown.

My MacBook shutdown due to overheating. now I can't restart it.

What happens when you try to restart it? Have you tried a safe start by holding the shift key down when booting?
If you can't get anything to work, try running the Apple hardware test. When prompted, choose the extended test, which can take over an hour to run.

  • Laptop won't start up after downloading Mavericks

It's been stuck on the grey start-up screen for a whole day, is there anything I can do??

Press the power button until the screen goes black.
Then restart while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.
If that doesn't work, startup while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you can access the built in utilities to restore OS X using OS X Recovery

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on after the new iOS update

I've just updated my iPod touch 5th generation to the iOS 8.1.1. (or whatever the newest update is) but once it updated, it now won't turn back on. I've tried plugging it into multiple chargers and computers just in case it wasn't charged, and tired turning it on, but all I get is the apple logo and nothing's happening. What can I do? I haven't backed it up this month and I don't want to loose all my stuff. Thanks.

Try the following. It is very likely that the iPod will have to be erased:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

In the future make sure yo backup before updating. I always backup to both iTunes and iCloud before updating .
