MY MACBOOK WONT BOOT FROM CD

Hey everyone.
Here is a problem.
I have purchased a macbook pro with snow lepoard and it was working perfectly.I am using it mostly for music production and i had 2 or 3 big software programs running at the same time and it was also working perfectly. So in the process of music making,my software froze and it started to behave wierdly enough, for me to restart my mac on a power button,BECAUSE IT DID NOT WORK WHEN I TRYED TO FORCE QUIT SOME SOFTWARE.When i did that, the problems began.First it startet to load it self and just got stuck on a apple sign and the little cyrcle is loading for hours and does not open my desktop.Than i tried to boot it from my original CD and the sounds that i hear from a CD harware is some beeping clicking noise and even if i hold the C button it does not start from CD.I have made an IMAGE of my system to the desktop so i can use it in DISK UTILITY and reinstal from an Image if my CD would not work. The problem is that i can not even get to disk utility from a start up or maybe i do not know how to get there.I have an internet recovery and it is the only option that my mac accepts and i mannage to get to disk utility through internet restore system, but when i get there it does not show the image i made on my desktop. So the CD wont start, disk utility does not recognize the image i made.It only shows my hard disk and the internet restore image. But even when i try to do that it does not like ,have suppport for lepoard.only LION to MAVERICKS.Than i tried to do the harware test with a restart and holding D key and still it will not do the hardware check also ,it just stays grey and than loads the apple logo and stays there for hours.Than i went again on internet recovery and i mannaged to do the permisions test and disk repair AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE O.K.At least my mac say so.There is not any problem with the disk or permissions.SO it is crazy that it seems everything is working, but still wont open my desktop. Now i cant run it or boot it from CD.I need to get to disk utility to get to the image i made on my desktop to reinstall my OS X.I can only get there through internet recovery ,but like i said,it wont recognize image i made.CAN I LIKE COPY A CD TO USB DRIVE AND TRY TO BOOT IT FROM MY USB KEY.Thank you anyone for an answer and sorry for my english wrighting mistakes.

Please confirm you are using OS 10.6.

  • Replaced hard drive; now Macbook wont boot from CD (or USB for that matter)

Looking for a genius. I've tried holding down "C" during startup until the option to boot from CD shows up, but my install disk spins, then stops. Does this about 3 times and the Macbook spits it out (I held "C" the entire time). I've also tried holding "alt/option" key with an external drive attached via USB but the option to boot from there never came up either. I tool it into the Apple store earlier today and was told only the hard drive was bad. Now that I've bought, opened, and installed the new HD, I'm concerned I've wasted that purchase. Anyone? Thanks so much.

Startup your Mac while holding  down the Option key. That should launch the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac  < includes info for repairing the startup disk
A Windows install disc will not boot your Mac.

  • Macbook wont boot from new hard drive.

I installed a new Western Digital 500GB hard drive into my Macbook Pro (2006 edition). The computer boots up, but it just stays at the screen with the apple and the thing circling underneath it. It won't go any further than that. I have to boot from my external hard drive to get to the Operating System.
Also it won't shut down nor restart unless I hold down the power button.
I installed Snow Leopard 10.6 on the new hard drive. The longest I waited was like 10 minutes. Should also note that there is a CD stuck in my CD/DVD optical drive (I used an external drive to install snow leopard)...I don't know if that's interfering. It didn't interfere with my old hard drive.
I've also used Disk Utility. It says the disk needs repairing, so I repair it, and it says successfully repaired, but I can't shut down or restart the computer, so I have to shut it down by holding the power button. When I turn it back on, it says it needs repairing again. Maybe it's not saving because of the improper shut down?
    Please help

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you format the new drive before trying to install the OS?
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885474&tstart=60
Try that, and if still no joy, you might have a defective drive. If so, WD will replace it under warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Wont boot from hard drive. Help??

I was typing on my Macbook and the whole computer just froze with the rainbow wheel. So i hold down the power button to force a shut down. When i try to boot it back up it game me a Apple logo but then turn into a X. I try to turn it on holding down the Option key and only the recovery HD came up. Then i try to install Osx onto the Hard drive and it wont recognize it. Then i went to disk utility and The HD is Grey out then i Try Repair Disk but it doesnt work and gives me errors. Then i plug in a different Hard Drive and it Boot Up fine so i know its not the computer its the hard drive issue. Btw i used a software to recover the files and everthing showed up so the content is still there but the software cost $99 to use and im not paying that much. Does anyone know how to solve this Issue? I have important files on it. If the hard drive is dead then is there any free software that i can use to recover the files?

Since you were able to read at least some of the files, I'm thinking you may have an issue with the SATA cable, which is fairly common. The easy test is to pull the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure. If it works, the SATA cable is probably the issue.
    Is it a 13 or 15 inch?

  • Macbook Pro Wont Boot from Retail 10.6.3 DVD

Just like the title says.  It wont boot off the retail 10.6 disk I got a couple weeks ago.
I think my EFI partition might have been corrupted...so I want to repartition the HD and reinstall the OS but the computer wont boot from the DVD.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Alexander,
If your MBP shipped with an OS later than 10.6.3, it won't boot from that disc. Use the install disc that shipped with your MBP.

  • IMac wont boot from CD

I am selling my iMac so want to reformat the HD and do a fresh install of Leopard.
When I try to boot from the system CD I get the grey screen, I hear the CD Drive reading the disk, then the computer reboots. The same thing happens every time no matter how I try to boot from the CD. When I eject the CD, or boot from HDD, it loads the OS fine. It just wont boot from the CD.
    I have tried:
Booting from CD by holding the C key during startup
Booting from CD using Startup Disk in System Preferences
Installing OS from the 'Install Mac OS X' application on the disc
Holding the option key during startup and selecting the CD drive
    Resetting the NVRAM
Verifying the HD in disk utility
Verifying the CD in disk utility
Verifying and repairing HD disk permissions in disk utility
Running the install on my MacBook to check the CD (booted to the CD and started install process fine)
I have searched for previous discussions that reference this issue but could find none with this specific problem. The CD drive reads other media fine so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Clean the disk?
    Dirty lense?
The bottom of the disk must be free of scratches and especially human fingerprints which the oils can trasfer insdie the machine.
Use a bit of rubbing alcohol on a very soft clean cloth and polish ot a shine before using the optical drive.
Order a replacement disk from Apple, buy jewel cases that suspend your disk, the plasic/paper sleeves Apple provides aren't good.

  • My macbook wont boot up :-( HELP!!!!

    Hi
HELP!!! My macbook wont boot up.
I was deleting some files off my system last night, Id put them in the trash and deleted them (there was quite alot!!) and the screen gradually went black and told me i needed to restart my computer by holding down the power key.
I tried doingt this but it wouldn't restart.
I left it a while and tried powering up, it seems to turn over once but the chimes dont kick in and nothing happens, the little light (is it the sleep light?) does come on but nothing else.
I really really hope someone can help!

Since you are still using Panther, try booting from your System Install DVD. Try running the +repair disk+ & repair permission options.

  • Macbook wont boot (folder icon with question mark)

    Dear all,
I have macbook 13.3 (black one) for a year. This morning it just didn't boot and I got the question mark sign. I googled and discovered that it is probably a HD problem and the solution is: boot macbook from DVD install disk and try to repair.
My problem is, that I cant do even that. I put the original DVD in, after boot I pressed hold option. Then I got only mouse cursor but no icons (like the DVD is not inserted). I tried with C also, but nothing. It just wont boot from DVD.
Does anyone has a solution, how can I force macbook to boot from DVD?

Make sure the disc is clean with no scratches in it. Also, you can try running fsck to check the disk.
    1. Reboot/Startup holding your Command-S key down.
    2. At the command line type the following and hit 'Return.'
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. If it finds a problem and repairs it, immediately run fsck again until the drive checks OK.
    4. After it has check/repaired your disk, type 'reboot' and hit 'Return' again. Unit should bootup normally.

  • 24" iMac - Wont boot from HD or disc... Help!

    Hi guys,
Just been working on iMac, forget the exact spec but it's a 24" Intel 2.something Core 2 Duo or whatever it is, 4gb DDR2 RAM, gotta be about 2 years old to the day and after my last 2 Macs have lasted forever, never developing a fault, I didn't take out Applecare... Perhaps I had a bit too much faith...
As I say, just working away and all of a sudden, upon putting a video in Quicktime to full screen, the whole image has kinda of condensed itself into the top 20% of the screen and started slightly flickering the image. I've tried quitting some of the programmes, but neither the mouse nor leyboard have been responding so I've just had to turn the computer off.
I've gone to turn it back on, and after about 30 seconds, it's got as far as the grey screen but then the little spinning progress indicator pauses and it does nothing else.
I've reset the PRAM and that made it take longer before it froze but ultimately did nothing.
I've now tried getting it to boot from the Snow Leopard disc but this does the something, until after about 3 - 5 minutes, the screen goes all pshychedlic, like looking at an old school TV really close...
So looking for any suggestions on other things to try before I have to take to my local store... Any hazard a guess at what may be up with it?
I've got a back up the whole computer but I don't think this is a software problem, I'm assuming it's going to be a hardware one?
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Ok, tried Safe Mode and that wont boot either. Saw a little progress bar on the grey screen though which made a change, but ultimately, it crashed once that had disappeared.
I've just noticed that at the point when the progress wheel stops spinning, a pattern of dead pixels appears across the screen that aren't there when the progress wheel is spinning.
The more I talk to people about this, the more graphics card seems to come back as the likely culprit, based on the fact that:
    - it started by me putting a video to full screen
    - the fact the display went weird when it first happened and also it plays up after it crashes with the psychedelic colours
    - it wont boot from HD, disc or now in safe mode either, however it does run AHT fine.
    - I've hoovered out the vents on the iMac and somehow it seems slower than it was before (bit odd)
    - the dead pixel thing mentioned above
So now thinking it may be time to get a new graphics card?
Reckon this is likely, even though the AHT hasn't picked up any problems? As mentioned earlier, I'm not too concerned about it would seem it doesn't particularly test the graphics card too much, so all just seems to point towards it.
Anything else that I could do to single this out as the likely culprit?
Guess this is a chance to upgrade!

  • Wont boot from cd???

I have a slot-loading iMac that wont boot from a CD.
Does anyone know why? I have tried holding C and choosing the CD as a start-up disk but it doesnt work. The CD i am trying to start-up on is the Mac OS 9 CD.
    Can anyone help??
    Thanks Daniel.

Did you have any luck on this?
I am having the same quandry. I have a slot-loading 450MHZ imac which I purchased used with 10.2 installled on it. When I tried to upgrade to 10.3 using my black retail CD I own I was told I needed to upgrade the firmware. Then I discovered that Classic had been deleted from this computer, so had no way to boot in 9.2.2 to install the Firmware update....so I figured I would have to start from scratch from my white 9.0 retail CD and do the upgrades to 9.2.2, but it wouldn't boot from the white CD.
Then I followed instructions I found here and used my 10.3 disc to access Disk Utility and reformatted the HD with the OS 9 Drivers (losing the 10.2 install it had in the process), and reset the PRAM twice.
So now I just get a gray screen with the flashing Question Mark in a folder. I have tried an external CD drive to confirm it's not a problem with the optical drive and have booted from the OS 9 CD on another slot-loading imac to confirm it's not a problem with the Disk. I have a 9.0 CD and a 10.3 CD but nothing in between.
    Still no luck...

  • Satellite C50-A634 wont boot from USB or DVD

My new toshiba Satellite C50-A634 wont boot from usb, or dvd ,
i have downloaded win 8.1 and burn image to dvd but i still get an error message "no bootable device......please restart system" .
    Can some one plz help?

    Hi
Does Satellite C50-A634 supports internal CD/DVD drive or did you try to boot from external optical disk drive?
You have to know that _Satellite C50 & Satellite C50D models *without* a built-in ODD_ are not able to boot from an external ODD due to a technical limitation.
    Details here:
[Limitation of external boot media for Satellite, Satellite Pro C50 & C50D devices|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3B03JA0000R01.htm]
Only USB flash drives are supported as external boot devices!
It is necessary you can use a USB flash drive as recovery media on notebooks without a built-in ODD.

  • My macbook wont boot up, black screen and the cd drive keeps making a constant sound. What to do?

My macbook wont boot up. When I turn it on, the screen turns black right away and the cd/dvd drive keeps making a constant "ejecting" sound.
The strange thing though is that once in a while starts up propperly, but suddely goes black again (after a min. or two), and the ejecting sound comes back. What to do, and yh, I've never done a back up so would it be possible to take out the HD and regain whats in there?
    Any help would be appriciated!

  • G5 wont boot from installation disk?

Any suggestions for a G5 that wont boot from the installation CD? Regular starts fail at the grey screen with the apple logo. I've re-set PRAM and SMU, and replaced the battery. G5 passed the Disk Utility tests and the hardware test run over firewire from a PowerBook. I've tried booting from the CD while holding down the various keys. Runs fine in terminal mode so I've saved all my files. Not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi choriocapillaris, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Can we assume it booted from this Install Disc before, or could this be an Install Disc from another Mac?
If it is the right Disc, put it in the PB, boot the PB into Target mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Boot the G5 with the Option key held down & see if the Install Disc in the PB eventually shows up as a boot choice for the G5.
