My MacBookPro crushed and cannot restore

My MacBook was not completing it's back up however long I left it on and was always running but no latest back. I had a complete one in Aug 13. I was prompted to restart on command R to check my disk and has since failed to boot. I have tried to re-install the OS but it does not complete. It is now four days of trying to restore and reinstall in vain. I have tried to boot on the DVD that came with in snow leopard which helps me boot but I cannot do anything else. Please advise! Apple UK is asking for £50 to take me through steps. This is crazy!!

You can restore the phone by completing a DFU restore. You should know BEFORE you follow the directions for it though that when the phone completes the restore, if it is also Activation Locked through the iCloud settings menu it will NOT allow you to complete set up without putting in an Apple ID account information. The phone will be completely un-usable until the Apple ID is put in: no Apps, no Internet, no anything. You don't have to worry about this if you know your iCloud account password, can reset it, or didn't lock it with the Find My iPhone feature in addition to your restrictions password.
DFU Restore:
1. Connect your phone to your computer
2. Open iTunes
3. Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home buttons simultaneously for approximately 9-10 seconds
4. When the screen goes blank, release the Sleep/Wake button and continue holding the Home button
5. the screen MUST remain black. If the Apple logo appears while still holding the Home button you did not time it properly (either you released Sleep/Wake too soon or too late)
6. iTunes will pop up with a small window indicating you have connected an iPhone in recovery mode and can Restore it to recover it.
7. If the apple logo appears due to incorrect timing the Recovery mode message may still appear in iTunes, but you should simply dismiss it and try again from step 3.

Thanks to everyone who responded and related subject helped. Holding the home button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds does unlock the screen. I can now use my ipad again. However, a futher problem has arisen since updating to IOS6 and activating icloud at same time, Although not sure if its related. The problem is that when connected to my PC the itunes message appears 'Cannot read ipad'. It instructs you to restore but keeps timing out after about 1 hour. This maybe internet issue but can't understand why itunes cannot read my ipad. May need to completely erase all content & reset. Or any other suggestions why this has happened?

I tried the recommended methods listed on Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support but they did not worked. Every time I tried to restore it kept asking me to allow access on iphone which I forgot the passcode. I do not have find my iphone on this phone nor icloud. I am willing to lose all my datas just to get my phone back to working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Apparently you did not follow the instructions in that article that address your issue. If you forgot your passcode, then you cannot restore it. You have to erase it by selecting the appropriate link under Erase and Restore.
Erase the device. Once it is erased, it will no longer need a passcode. If you are talking about an Activation Lock, that is a different matter. Is that what you are referring to?

I changed computers from my old laptop to a desktop. It connected just fine yesterday. Today I tried to sync it up and it said that it couldn't sync for an unknown reason. Ok, so i decided to do a restore. It gave me the "cannot restore" error message. now, whenever i turn it on, it says "use iTunes to Restore." When i connect it to my computer, the ipod screen is all white and has a weird looking font that i've never seen on it before. I've tried everything i could try on the support site. please help!!

Ipod touch(1st gen) stuck in recovery mode and cannot restore??

I just bought a used ipod touch 1st gen. It was fully functional before I wiped it. I wanted to remove all of the other person's music and personal info before I started using it. I also wanted to update ios. I wiped it and when it restarted it was in recovery mode. I have tried to restore it and I keep getting an error message that it could not restore unknown error has occurred (1). I have tried troubleshooting and going through all of the steps that Apple suggests and nothing has worked. Any suggestions? I just want it restored and updated to the latest ios that will work with it (3.1.1 I believe) I don't know what to do at this point.

- Try another cable
- Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I held the "Menu" button along with the center button
for about 6 seconds (as they state you should) and
all of the sudden the screen finally broke from the
"Do not disconnect" screen and began charging, now
everything is working as it should.
Oh my gosh, thanks so much, that did it! I, too, did not know that the "Select" button is the middle. And in fact, in all my prior repeated attempts to re-set my iPod, I had made a point of trying NOT to press the middle, but just the Menu button and the bottom button at the same time (since I thought that the bottom/play button must also be the select button). (Why did I think that? Answer -- because the 5R's instructions seemed, I mistakenly thought, to be saying to be careful not to touch the middle. I guess not. If anybody at Apple is reading this, please note that people like me can easily confused by unexplained verbiage like "Select button," apparently. Please consider tweaking the 5R's instructions to explain this to others.)
