My macbookpro is freezing up for like one second each every five seconds

my macbookpro is freezing up for like one second each freeze and its about every five seconds, usually i'm moving the mouse and it stops and the mouse is way accross the screen in a different spot. really irritating.

New development. The computer works fine until I try to connect to my office network, which has always worked. Once that tries and fails, the freeze-every-five-seconds begins to happen and won't go away. Again, this connection worked perfectly until last night (around the time I did the latest software update ... I believe it was an iLife Quicktime patch).
Can I uninstall that?

All of the movies that we watch on I tunes have intermittent interruptions to the audio.  It's like a one second blank every 20 seconds and we miss what is being said.  This is independent of which movie is playing.  We are on Shaw and have purchased their best modem and registered for the higher speed option.  Our Apple TV receiver is hard wired back to our network hub and the hub is working correctly.  There is no problem with the video.  What could be causing this problem?

I own the movies and I want them to stay in my iTunes library basically forever.
But in both cases the file name no longer shows in the movie list, so I don't know how to re-download it from the Cloud.
iTunes prefs > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
This will show all your iTunes purchases in your library with a cloud icon down arrow. Click the icon to redownload or click on Play to stream without downloading.
Also see this , -> Download past purchases
and techncially, you don't "own" the movie, You simply have a license to use it.
Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.
Actually, no it does not tell you that.
FYI: You should keep copies of all yoru iTnue spurahses as the labels/movie studios/copyright owners can pull their product at anytime and it won't be available to redownload.

  • My mac freezes just for a second about every two seconds and it gets really hot really fast?

When i am watching a video or just scrolling on a webpage, even typing, there is a small glitch ever 1-2 seconds where everything freezes just for a second. Its almost as if its lagging all the time. I have tried every utility and cant figure it out. Also, it gets pretty hot pretty fast, even when im doing much on it. Are these two things related? how do i fix it?
    thanks

If you can, visit an Apple Store. Before you do, set up the phone "as new device" without using the backup afterwards, described here: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If you still have problems after that, visit the Store or call Apple to get it serviced: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

  • ITunes freezes for 3 seconds about every 15 seconds - HELP PLEASE!!

My iTunes keeps freezing every 15 seconds for about 3 seconds. I have already reinstalled iTunes twice and it still happens.
    Please help me!

    Welcome to AD!
Look in Task Manager > Processes tab. Click on the CPU column twice.
Watch it to see what other process is taking CPU time every 15 seconds.

  • Quiz for lesson 1 - reading sensor every 30 seconds

I do not agree with the "scheduleAtFixedRate" not accepted as a correct answer.
I work with sensors and DSPs every day and, at least for me, "every 30 seconds" means exactly every 30 seconds. The only acceptable choice here would be "scheduleAtFixedRate". If there is not enough time to process sensor's readings the problem should be addressed properly or if there is no need to have sensor reading every 30s the question should say so.
    All comments are welcome.

Well, perhaps the question is misleading, but....
The difference between schedule and scheduleAtFixedRate is that schedule is designed for a fixed delay.  So if you want a delay between reads of 30 seconds, schedule is the better answer.
The scheduleAtFixedRate is designed for a fixed-rate of execution - as the Javadoc says (emphasis is mine):
"Schedules the specified task for repeated fixed-rate execution, beginning after the specified delay. Subsequent executions take place at approximately regular intervals, separated by the specified period.
In fixed-rate execution, each execution is scheduled relative to the scheduled execution time of the initial execution. If an execution is delayed for any reason (such as garbage collection or other background activity), two or more executions will occur in rapid succession to "catch up." In the long run, the frequency of execution will be exactly the reciprocal of the specified period (assuming the system clock underlying Object.wait(long) is accurate).
Fixed-rate execution is appropriate for recurring activities that are sensitive to absolute time, such as ringing a chime every hour on the hour, or running scheduled maintenance every day at a particular time. It is also appropriate for recurring activities where the total time to perform a fixed number of executions is important, such as a countdown timer that ticks once every second for ten seconds."
So fixedRate is not the better choice in this case - eventually, the delay between events will become 29 seconds, then 28, then 27, and so on.

  • I'm asked for my incoming server password every 60 seconds!

This wasn't the case with 10.4. It's driving me crazy.
    Any suggestions????

    Michael,
It has been the case with all versions of Mail to recommend no more frequent than 5 minutes. However, on some LAN where the connection is very speedy, I am sure 1 minute can work, and be a convenience in an office and work environment. Thus the option to use 1 minute is there.

I copied a calendar item from Outlook to the Calendar app.  I can't delete it and the reminder repeats itself every few seconds.  How can I stop the reminder?  How can I delete the calendar item?

Can you access in on icloud.com and delete the event?  If not, and force-quitting didn't help, try going to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Calendars, choose Delete from Mac when prompted (they will still be in iCloud), then restart your Mac and go back and check Calendars again.

  • Write Data for five seconds

I am trying to write the data file of a waveform for 5 seconds at the start of the VI running and then for 5 seconds after every 60 seconds. I have made a VI for this attached herewith and also please refer to the screenshot to get my question. As you can see from the screenshot I can record the waveforms at the beginning and after every 60 seconds but the problem is that I want the Write to Measurement File VIs to keep on running for 5 seconds in each iteration.
Your step by step guidance will be very helpful to me.
    Anxiously waiting for the response.
    Best regards,

There are several ways to do this as well. One way is to use another shift register to feed the "new file" input of the Write to Measurement File, as shown in the attached modification. Note that the configuration of the Write to Measurement File VI needs to be set to so it does not create a new file once it reaches 100K, which was checked.

  • Dual G5 2 GHz, random freezing for about one year now...

    Hi Everybody
I own a Dual G5 2 GHz for about three years now. I used to work perfectly until about one year ago.
Then, presumably, an external FireWire harddisk blew the Logic Board. I had to have it replaced for a lot of money (because the G5 was out of warranty already). Since that point in time, the machine randomly freezes from time to time. And it is getting worse.
I tried a lot already, I think: RAM, USB peripherials (Mouse, Keyboard), removed all external things (but wireless, mouse, keyboard and screen), different screen, different keyboard... I had it turned in to different apple repair-centres twice and got it back with "no problem found" (although it froze in one case as well!).
Apple Hardware-Test runs fine. It gave an error that pointed to the Logic-Board or processor (according to Apple customer care) once, but this is not reproducible...
I am at a loss. What else can I do? By the way: the most "promising" thing to create the freeze (although there is no "definitive" way to do so) is to browse iTunes-Shop/Podcasts.
I would be very grateful for any hint/option. Thinking about Firmware update right now, but first have to check what verison I already have to see if there is a newer one.
    Regards
    andreas
    Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

Mozilla recently released Firefox 2.0, you may want
    to give that a try.
I was thinking about that too. I might do this, if no crashes occur as long as I only use Safari (I can live with that for a week, np).
It's possible that there may be something else
running in the background (another application that
you installed perhaps) that could be causing the lock
up. Take a look at Activity Monitor
    (/Applications/Utilities)
I'll have a look, but I don't think (hope?) there is something I missed...
Something else to look at would be to do a fresh
install (even if it's using an external FW drive),
reinstall your software 1 by 1 and see if it casuses
your machine to freeze. It's time consuming, but may
help in narrowing down what is the cause (if in fact
    it is software related).
Two points here: first is that I cannot reinstall one by one because the error is not (yet) reprocucible. So I would never know when one app is "secure" and when to install the next one...
And second, I think that software should no be able to freeze a system like OS X (or FreeBSD) just like that, no? Maybe crash the app, but not the system...
Also, are you running any Classic applications?
    Nope.
If you don't already have the newest version of
Firefox installed, try that first and see what
    happens.
I have And I had a lot of different versions throughout the last year
Thanks for your input, Ben, I appreciate it!

  • Ipod Freezes for one second once every 3-4 songs

This is my first time posting so please bear with me. I have had a 30g Video Ipod since November and it has been great since this week.
Started noticing the sad icon that will go away if i reset the iPod. Also started noticing when I go through the menu to play a song the ipod will freeze for 5-10 sec then take me back to the menu where I'd have to re-click through the menu to play it. Then while playing it will pause for a second then continue for a few more songs and then freeze again. Also one the song starts to play again I cannot rewind or ff the song either. I will hit it a few times and then once it catches up it will ff the number of times I hit the button - very annoying.
I've done the 5 R's (reset, restoring, rebooting, reinstalling itunes, retry) and it still happens.
Is the next stop going to the apple store?
    thanks in advance...
    -dave

Unfortunately, I think so. It sounds like something has failed. You may try calling Apple first, to save yourself a trip. They might help you, but you are out of your 90 day warranty, so unless you bought AppleCare, you may have to go to the store.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • Why does iTunes freeze up for minutes at a time when modifying INFO (CMD-i) ?  My files are not corrupted after it is done like many other threads i have readed.

Why does iTunes freeze up for minutes at a time when modifying INFO (CMD-i) ?  My files are not corrupted after it is done like many other threads i have readed.  Sometimes it's changing the title of a movie or editing the season and episode number of a TV show ect.....

    Yup same here
I am running the latest iTunes, the latest updates to the OS and on an iMac 3.4GHz Quad core i7 with 8GB of RAM and the music stored on local HDD.
Still locks up iTunes for between 2 minutes up to 20 minutes.
    Really annoying.
If you find a fix please, please let me know, I have just been throwing hardware at it with no joy at all
