  • My Photoshop CS3 goes very slow/choppy when I have a selection made.

    Hello,
My Photoshop CS3 goes very slow/choppy when I have a selection made, with those little moving lines indicating the selection (the lines that look like walking ants). When I'm adding to the selection, it's fine again, because the "ants" aren't moving, same with when I hit Q to enter Quick Mask Mode--as long as the "ants" aren't moving, my Photoshop isn't slow. Is there any way to fix this? To either speed up Photoshop or to stop the "ants" from moving, and simply allow selections to be indicated by broken lines, but not moving broken lines?
    Thanks

    dovdov2,
are you saying that when you connect your MacBook Pro to a monitor, your Internet connection slows down, but when you disconnect the monitor, it speeds up again, and that this is reproducible from one day to another?
Does this happen both under OS X and under Windows 7, or only under one of them?
How are you currently connecting your MacBook Pro to your monitor?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

My iPod 4G has been going very slow! I want to restart it but my power button is broken. Please help it's been going slow for the past month. It's even slow as o type this message.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My Macbook Pro is going very slow

For some reason my Macbook Pro is going verryy slow. I don't think I have malware or viruses. I ran scans with Anti-Malware-Bytes and am now downloading Sophos. Now for how it goes slow - Say if I play a game.. lets take runescape for instance.. it'll be fine for about 5 minutes then my mouse will start lagging and just the whole computer will. Starting applications, typing.. my letters will come up 3 seconds after I press a key.. I can run firefox (only firefox) and only have 1-3 tabs up without it lagging. If I have youtube up it will lag from time to time too. Netflix goes slow and doesn't play right.
One thing I have noticed is near the top of the laptop ( when it is opened, where it bends to open) it gets very hot. VERY hot. Which ended up making me think why I don't hear a fan, so now I'm thinking its very slow because the fan is not running. I don't know if it is because the fan is not running or if the fan is not running at all. It might just be too quiet for me to hear. Any help would be amazing please. I want to get my old laptop back lol

how would I go about getting it off completly?
I've no idea. If it doesn't come with an uninstall script or app, then it's the developer of the application which should answer that.
what about Sophos? Should I take that off too?
Yes. The bottom line is this. Many anti-virus tools or optimisers install low-level software (eg, kernel extensions, or kexts) which interfere with, or modify the way in which low-level functions of the operating system work. Consequently, they cause problems; to troubleshoot those problems, you need to remove this software.
(Btw, make sure you've applied Apple's Java updates and turned off Java in all your browsers.)

  • 2ND Battery is now NOT working(&)Can NOT restart(&) Going very slow!

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. I am new to this and I am wondering if anyone had any solutions or input to my post subject. I have just replaced the original MacBook battery and now the replacement will no longer charge much like the previous. Also, I am NOT able to restart the computer. I must shut down and start using the power button. Finally, the computer is very slow now and not able to properly stream most media online. If anyone has any idea what might be the problem I would appreciate any and all input. Thank you.

Was it an Apple-branded battery? Any chance the charger is bad?
Try booting from your OSX installation disk and use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your hard drive.

  • My iPod Tocuh is going VERY slow

I don't know why, but my iPod touch (8GB, 4th Generation) is going super slow. It has 4 apps and 12 photos & videos (1.1 GB used). This iPod was recently restored VIA iTunes.

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
    next
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

The how can I identify which is useless ? ?
PS: Thanks for you kindly following.
    Hi Ben,
Hands off from the 'Process Viewer' you are referring to !!
If you don't exactly know which process is belonging to what program, you can do more damage than you like...
And these 50 processes you see there are not unusual.
(I have 30 at the moment, with only Firefox and a VNC-Viewer running).
A lot of these processes are Windows System processes which are always running.
Two Tabs to the left of the Process Viewer Tab is the 'Network' Tab (named Netzwerk in my German Windows).
With it you can see the load of your LAN-connection and can determine if there is a certain amount of load already there, even when you don't use your browser.
And when your browser is getting slow, you can see if it's a problem with your LAN-connection or not.
And don't underestimate the possibility, that sometimes the server, that are hosting the websites you visit, are simply said 'full'.
Imagine 10 million Mac-user trying to download the latest OSX update from the Apple servers at the same time and you know what I mean.
As for Startup Items, click on 'Start' - 'Run...' and type msconfig.
The last Tab shows you the Startup Objects.

  • My Mac (mid 2010) goes very slow after running 10-15minutes

    hi,
one of my Mac(Mid 2010) when I boot it up it works properly but after running for 30-45mins. (approx) it start to lost its speed and its' response time goes slower and slower.
If I use any Internet browser then Mac speed become slower within 15mins. i need to restart again. The restarting time is also much more than average restart time.
If I goes to Activity Monitor, under CPU tab it shows %user more than 80% even my machin is Idel and under Network Tab it's Data Receiving Rate is upto 700byte while Data sent rate is upto 400byte when my machine is Idel and not using Internet also.
so, what I have to do to Run my Mac mini smoothly, please guide me.

  • Fusion Drive going very slow

I recently purchased a new iMac to replace my Mac Pro 1,1 and maxed it out, including opting for the 3TB Fusion Drive but am wondering if I have either too high expectations for the performance or if something may be wrong. When working in any number of applications (typically Adobe's CC suite... Illustratrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) and going to save a file, when I am presented with the Save modal it is frequently a full 20 seconds before the Finder displays all of the filesystem (folders, files, etc.). That seems excessively long and not at all what I was expecting performance-wise.
The drive isn't remotely full with well over 80% of the space remaining and all tests that I have run on the drives in Disk Utility come up with little more than the occasional permission repair need, but no more than usual.
Anything more I might do to improve performance? Is this typical?
    TIA!

    Hi there Richard,
Ive also taken delivery of a fully loaded iMac this week. We opted for the 3TB fusion drive.
I have to agree with you in the fact that it aint really blowing my socks off. It takes around 25 secs for the OS to boot.
On my outdated 2007 Blackbook running Lion it takes a mere 18 seconds!! I installed a Seagate Momentus SSHD into that thing and for normal surfing and everyday tasks I really cannot fault it. I have to hand it to Seagate and their claims that the SSHD learns what you use and how often. Safari and Chrome boot extremely fast, much like if I was running an pure SSD.
In comparison the iMac when I freshly open Safari and Chrome I get around 3-4 bounces of the icon in the dock before it finally opens and even then the rendering of the page isnt as quick as my Blackbook. Safari is the slowest of any browser.
Ill stick my full config down below and we can compare notes.
Just as a matter of interest I opted for standard 8GB RAM from Apple. When it arrived I put a further 16GB (2x 8GB) into the Mac giving a total 24GB RAM. As far as Im aware that shouldn't affect the Mac. It shows Ok in About my Mac and system report. I may take out the 2x4GB sticks tonight to see if that has any effect.
Ill keep my eye on this post. The Fusion Drive has been a bit underwhelming I have to say.
    Regards
    Stu

  • Storer going very slow on full scans

The storer service on my root server has started taking a lot of time to
process full scan .str files (2 - 5 min each). It use to process them in a
few seconds. This is causing the rolled up zip files to back up in
the "\ZENworks\Inv\ScanDir\DBDir\" directory. Our root server is a new
dual processor P4 with 4GB RAM and RAID5. While the storer is running, the
server usually reads around 25% utilization. I've not changed anything
recently on the server and I've tried rebooting. Any ideas as to why it
may have slowed down so much?

    that's not the right file..
you configure it in the mgmtdbs.ncf file
-c should be around 75 MB to 10k wks... otherwise 175 MB till 35
-gn should be perhaps 100 if more than 40k wks..
also make sure you have enough ram and that you are using only zfd 4.x
wks... you did install the agent on all wks?
