My MacPro goes to sleep and never wakes up
Pretty much every time I leave my computer alone for the night, I have to do a hard reset in order to get back in... it never wakes back up when I press keys or click the mouse. While I'm using it, it runs amazingly well.
This is a 2006 Mac Pro, in which I have stuffed a lot of solid componentry. Recently I made two changes:
1. I plugged a third monitor into one of my two video cards.
2. I threw in 16gb of RAM that I grabbed from Ebay.
TechTools pro runs tests and tells me that everything is fine... obviously it's wrong.
I bought the computer off of craigslist, and it boots to a black screen with a bunch of white text... I don't know why. I can't boot into Apple Hardware Test... I really can't boot into any of the recovery modes actually. I'm stuck going directly into the operating system after the black screen does it's thing.
I would try to reset the PRAM and such, but holding things down during startup just doesn't work for me.

Just junk the X1900 for now. At least take it out, take it outside and give it the full treatment.

Try with half the RAM at a time.
Monitor the temps - Temperature Monitor - especially those FBDIMMs to be running below 70*C.
Amazon has those for $25 (2 x 2GB for Mac Pro 1,1 667)
Your 5770 will support three displays.
Use SMCFanControl 2.4+ and set the default fan speed to 900 rpm, and set a couple more profiles for higher rpm just to see if that helps air flow and cooling and if your temps are normal.
I would also look at running w/o external devices. Like your RAID5. Until your system is stable.

I just installed SL and I seem to be having a myriad of problems:
1) when she goes into sleep mode, i can't wake her up unless I restart the machine. All I get is the spinning beach ball.
2) she is definitively NOT faster
3) I don't see anything new or different anywhere on my system. I was really excited about the new podcast feature but I can't find it anywhere on my system
4) I ran disk utility to do repair permissions, and that didn't fix anything. In fact, a few repairs couldn't be made.
I'm thinking that i should just just uninstall it - but i have no idea how to do that. Should I try to fix it or just I just do the uninstall and wait until the software updates come out?

Can anybody help? My computer is going to sleep and I cant wake it(bit like a teenager) by using the mouse or keyboard. I have to use the power button. Any ideas?
Hmm, that support link doesn't like me.
Do you have the discs that came with the computer? If so, put Install Disc 1 into the combo drive and boot up while holding the C key. Does anything show up on the screen? Do you hear the fan running? When running from a CD or DVD, the fan usually runs at a fairly fast pace and should make some noise.
Keep in mind that you have a 1-year hardware warranty with any new or refurbished Mac, so if something has gone wrong, you should be able to have it replaced free of charge, unless the MacBook shows some form of damage.

MBP goes to sleep and only wakes up for a moment... then sleeps?
My MBP started doing this today. Open the display, it wakes up for 1 second, then it goes to sleep and the screen disappears...? I tried to reboot in safe mode but it does the same thing again. Cant get it to stay on for more than a moment... any tips?

Macbook Pro 15 inch goes to sleep and then wakes
The Macbook Pro 15 inch computer is going to sleep while in use and then wakes up. No magnetic items are close to it. It is the strangest thing. We will be using it then its screen goes black/to sleep and wakes up after a few seconds. I thought that maybe it was Opera that I had open so I shut that down. I opened and was using Safari then it repeated. I tried restarting but it made no difference. Any thoughts on this or ideas of how to fix this?

Any idea how to stop the Mac from freezing up when it goes into sleep mode?
First the screen saver comes on and then after a way it goes into hibernation and then can't be woken.
It use to wake but suddenly decided not to. Nothing's changed.Well, as you can see from the long discussion on Creative Cow, the XD Cam issue is complicated and seems to be a hardware issue with Mac Pros. Disconnecting the fibre channel card seemed to have worked for one person. I haven't got one of those as far as I know! But then my crashes aren't as constant as his and seem connected, in my mind, with the odd way FC garbles the aspect ratios of Ex 1 footage, especially if mixed with filters and other codecs on the same time line... but some people swear it's the hardware not the soft that's the problem.
Anyway, I've had the hardware... RAM, Disk issues etc... all triple checked out and can't find a problem.
But still Finder takes six seconds to find anything and I think that has caused some crashes.
It doesn't seem to like Soundtrack Pro at all! (You can find a mixed bag of experiences on that issue as well.) And Motion works a little bit too jittery for my liking.
It might be that there are several different flavours of mother board, some not as geared up to this software as others. That's my theory at the moment. The only way to check is to stick my hard drives into the machine of someone who says they don't have any problems. -
Macbook Pro Randomly Goes to Sleep and Wont Wake Up
My Macbook Pro started having this problem a few months ago and it has gotten progressivly worse and worse. It will randomly go to sleep but I wont be able to wake it back up. The keys are lit up and the light on the front is pulsing, but no matter what I do it wont wake up. So I have to do a hard reset to turn it back on. This happens a few times a day so its pretty infuriating. I have read on other forums about people having this same problem but havent been able to find a solid solution.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!Hey this was happening to me too! So i called apple care, i have a the Late 2011 Macbook Pro, and this is what they suggested:
1. open system preferences
2. open engery saver
3. look at "Computer sleep" and move it over to a longer time period
for instance I had mine at 5 minutes so thats why it would go to sleep all the time
-now I set it to 25 minutes

Powercfg sets power plan with never sleep but system goes to sleep and locks the screen
I created a command (.bat) file that executes 'Powercfg -s 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c' where '8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c' is the class name for power option (HighPerf) that sets sleep to never. Then I created a scheduler's task to execute
this command file at specified time. The goal here is to switch at this time from power option that has sleep in 1 hour (Balanced) to the power option that never sleeps.
At the designated time the power option changes from Balanced to HighPerf but after some time computer both goes to sleep and locks the screen. I do not know whether this happens at the same time or not. It is just that when I get to my computer some time
(2 hours) later, it is in the sleep mode (the light on the power button is amber), I need to press the power button to wake it up and when it comes to life I find out that the screen is locked and I need to enter the password.When I open Control Panel it shows
that HighPerf power option is selected. Yet, the computer went to sleep and the screen got locked.
All this does not happen when I set HighPerf power option from the Control Panel.
I am using Dell XPS 8500 desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium, so battery and closed lid settings do not apply as they do not exist on this computer, so those settings are not at issue.

Based on your goal "The goal here is to switch at this time from power option that has sleep in 1 hour (Balanced) to the power option that never sleeps.", why didn't you set the Balanced option to never sleep?
If you just ant it at one time to switch, you need another task to change back. Otherwise, it keep "never sleep" and "high perf"status.
Meanwhille, check your hibernate status of these power plan under sleep tab:
Power Options->Change Plan Settings->Change Advanced settings, you see a tap "Sleep"

I performed the steps indicated but this morning when I clicked the mouse and hit the space key and clicked the track pad again as before nothing happens.
I hold the power button for a few seconds and the screen fills as if the computer was normally awakened but it is locked up.
Then I have to shut it down with the power button and then power it up as a reboot.
Not good...SMC reset didn't work....Throughout the day yesterday I put the computer to sleep and woke it up normally. It seems to be a overnight problem.
Am I going to have to shut it down everynight?

When I close the lid on my retina MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt and it goes to sleep, I cannot wake it without shutting it down and restarting it. Called Apple tech and they did not have a solution. Any ideas?

HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 goes to sleep, but often wakes up when it shouldn't. This happens over and over. It used to sleep until I sent something to be printed. I now shut the printer down, but that takes a long time to start it up.
When you finally get around to looking at my post, never mind.
I reset the factory defaults on the printer and reauthorized my WiFi network.
Now it is working. -
I have just got an iMac 21" and it continuously freezes when it goes to sleep and also when the internet is trying to load, i have tried three different browsers but it still does it (safari, google chrome and firefox), does anyone know what is wrong?
To fix the freezing when sleeping problem go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'Computer Sleep' to 'Never'. It seems there is a problem for some with Bluetooth failing to wake after sleep. This fixes it 100% for me and many others on here, until Apple issue a software update to address it.
Not sure what to suggest on the internet problem. I assume you are connected and receive and send emails OK.
Edit: To try to troubleshoot the internet issue maybe try turning the Firewall off: System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall tab. -
My e9107c desktop goes to sleep and them in a few hours or minutes has an unexpected power failure.
My computer goes to sleep, will wake up and run fine. It never fails while using it for hours. Once I leave it, it will go to sleep. If I come back and it is asleep it will come back on and work fine. However if while its asleep it has an unexpected power failure I have to turn on the computer and it will restate and work fine. Its like it goes to sleep and forgets it needs power and shuts off but doesn't shut down the operating system and causes a kernal 41 error.
If it were a power supply failure or an over heating problem I would expect it to occure while using the system, not during sleep mode when everything powers down. It used to work fine but the last few months the problem showed up. If I shut down the computer and them come back and turn it on it works fine. So I just don't let it go to sleep and turn it on and off.
Any idea why it would loss power while sleeping?I think I have resolved my problem by uninstalling my cell phone software : Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0 I found that this program was interfering with windows when I wanted to turn off my computer and stopped shut down. It interfered more after two recent upgrades. I don't think Sony Ericsson has very good programer, because the more they upgrade the program the more it conflicted with Windows 7 64 bit OS I had this program on my system for a long time before the problem arose. I uninstalled the program and noticed my system ran better. It shut down without forcing any program to end. Since there was such a dramatic change in how the system worked, I tried to reset my computer to go to sleep and not shut it down. It works a designed and no longer loses power while sleeping. I didn't think an installed program could affect this feature but apparently it can.

Mac Pro sleeps and then wakes within a second after 10.4.11
i just updated to 10.4.11 and now when i press the sleep button it will sleep and then wake up within a second.
any ideas why this is happening, and a way to fix it?Sometimes resetting the SMC on your MacPro will fix sleep issues, as that is what settings it maintains.

After our last storm (the electricity went out without shutting down), It now takes more than 10min for my Power Mac G4 OSX 10.5.7 to boot up on turn on. Reboot is the same. When i put her to sleep, she never wakes up. I have to shut down and WAIT. Is there a know fix for this?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
