My macpro wont pick up and usb devices

For some reason my iphone wont charge or sync when i plug it into my mac book pro. It was working just fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped working for no reason. It was like my computer kicked it out or something. If anybody has any ideas that will help me to get this problem fixed it would be really appreciated. Thank you

Does this only happen to your iPhone or on all devices/periferals ?

  • [SOLVED]mounting cdrom and usb devices doesn't work

    Hello,
i have trouble mounting my usb devices. automount doesn't work and i can't mount them manually even as a superuser. here's the output of mount command:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so
i can mount cdrom manually but i can't do the same for my usb stick and external hard drives. it always complains about the above regardless of the filesystem. my devices are working under windows and other linuxes so i know hardware is not the problem.
    i'm using lxde with pcmanfm.
if you need any other files just ask.
    thanks

above was the error when i tried to mount any usb device with "mount -t <type> /dev/sdc /media/mountpoint". and i couldn't mount any usb device as root from console. when i tried to mount devices using pcmanfm it just popped some empty dialogs and i couldn't find any mention of "IsCallerPriviliged failed" error so i (wrongly) presumed it wasn't that. i did try some of the other fixes mentioned in the forum with no success. but adding exec ck-launch-session startkde to my .xinitrc fixed the issue
    thanks again

  • Macs and USB Devices Not Getting Along

I am posting this incase I'm not the only one.
I have noticed this issue with my Intel iMac as well as my PPC iMac
Both are running the latest versions of OSX 10.4.9
This is regarding USB connectivity and the effect connected devices have on the system.
    USB Setup
    1 7 Port usb hub
1 Palm Dock Connected via hub
1 iPod Dock Connected to 2nd USB Port on iMac
1 ScanSnap connected via hub - POWER OFF
    Bluetooth Apple Mouse & Keyboard
1 TomTom 910 connected via hub - Connected to dock but power is off.
1 Canon IP90 Connects via Bluetooth - POWER OFF
    This is what happens.
If one of the following usb devices is connected, boot times can be extended with the system "pausing" at the Gray screen before Gray Apple Logo appears.
    iPod
    Palm TX
Once the OS boots Missing Sync's Menu Bar status application will not load, will have to manual load app.
If I disconnect these devices and reboot boot time is normal with no "pause" and missing sync loads normally.
Also i Have noticed my Apple keyboard will take longer to pair during boot with or without these devices connected.
iMac will not power down as scheduled with these usb devices connected if the system falls asleep with them connected.
Normally the iMac will wake itself up at 11pm to shut down. If my iPod or Palm is connected it will not. It will only shut down via schedule if it is awake when scheduled time is reached.
    iMac G5 2 Ghz 1.5 Ram 400 Gig HD & iBook G4 1.33 12   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

So just an updated to my original post. I have been working with tech support for Missing Sync. There is a known issue with a menu bar application that comes with their software. It seems when more than 1 or 2 usb devices are connected this menu bar app doesn't load correctly... or at all.
According to them.. one of their techs actually spoke with a Apple Engineer at WWDC this week regarding the issue. According to this Apple Engineer there is a known issue with OS X and USB handling. Apparently the OS can "freak out" if certain devices are connected during boot.
No other specifics where given, and who knows if this is Missing Syncs attempt at shelling off responsibility to Apple. However, I am inclined to believe it as I have noticed that my iMac Intel or PowerPC will take a significantly longer time booting if my iPod or Palm Pilot is docked during boot. I've also noticed I can't reset my PRAM when these devices are connected.
I hope apply addresses these issues, seems kinda crazy its gotten this far being that USB devices are the primary method for expanding your Mac's abilities.

  • Kernel_task utilization and usb devices

After updating to OS 10.5.2 from 10.4.11 - I noticed in the Activity Viewer
that kernel_task was using between 40 and 50 shares and sometimes more
(units/points/whatever) and the system overall seemed to be somewhat slow -
apps would take longer than 10.4.11 to load - the splash screens would stay
on screen longer etc. And I see (Not Responding) in the Activity monitor a
lot more than I ever did before.
I have done some cleanup - defrag - pre-binding - permissions rebuild etc.
I read somewhere that USB devices/drivers could be responsible - so I
started to unplug USB devices (I have about 15 of them) - and the
kernel_task dropped to less than 2.
One of the USB devices is a Light Stone Bio Feedback unit - since I had not
used it in some time I had not loaded the software for it back when I got
this MacBook Pro (2.33GHz Core2 Duo 3GB of RAM 256MB Video RAM 1680x1050
    with external 1900x1200).
So I loaded the software for the Bio Feedback (The Journey to the Wild
Divine - which coincidentally I wanted to do anyway to use the heart rate
monitor function on it - still looking for Mac software to read the unit
directly but for now the PC software works). Anyway - that resulted in the
kernel_task dropping to around 25 on average. When I unplug the hub that has
all the CH Products connected to it - FighterStick - Yoke - Pro Throttle and
Pro Pedals (I thought the Pedals were broken but they seem to be working
again) - the kernel_task dropped to below 2. As I unplug each individual CH
Products device the kernel_task drops on average about 5 or less.
I tried loading USB Overdrive to see if maybe some kernel extension that
"read" the devices was installed that perhaps the kernel would not spend so
many cycles on them - but no change in the CPU utilization for those
devices. I have uninstalled USB overdrive (haven't rebooted yet - hoping the
pedals still work after the reboot). The console doesn't show anything that
would suggest a lot of polling or errors.
So I am wondering if this is just the way things are and anytime I want to
use the CH Products devices I have to take a 25 point CPU hit. I am thinking
that it might be affecting the frame rate and such in X-Plane. Or does it
sound like there is something out of whack on my system? Could it be
something in OS 10.5.2 that still needs work form Apple (I am planning to
send some of this info to Apple and CH Products as well).
    I have the following:
    Built-in Keyboard and Trackpad
    Built-in IR Receiver
    Built-in Bluetooth host controller
Integrated port - with USB Memory stick (not always attached)
Integrated port - with external USB hard drive (not always attached)
    Built-in iSight Camera
Integrated port connected to external monitor
    Monitor port connected to iPhone
Monitor port connected to 7 port USB 2.0 powered Hub 1
Epson Printer (usually attached to the Airport Extreme except for
    maintenance)
    iPod (30GB Video)
    APC UPS 1000
    CanoScan LiDE30
    USB card reader
    Kensington Wireless Trackball (radio transmitter)
    7 port USB 2.0 powered Hub 2
    Light Stone Bio Feedback unit
    Macally IceCad Mini Tablet
    CH Products Pro Pedals
    CH Products Pro Throttle
    CH Products Fighterstick
    CH Products SIM Yoke
With all that plugged in - the kernel_task is about 30 (with Bio Feedback
software installed) - and varies by a couple points up and down.
If I unplug the Hub 2 with the CH products - or individually unplug the CH
products devices - kernel_task drops instantly to 5 or less - and then runs
between less than 2 and no more than about 5 or so - sometimes less than 1.
    I also have a Gravis GamePad Pro - a wireless Keyboard and Mouse - a M-Audio
KeyStation 49e - and a UBfunkeys hub - which are generally not connected to
this computer - but could be.
For now I can unplug that hub when I am not using those devices - but when I do need to use them - I think they may be impacting overall performance.
Has anyone else seen this? anyone have a solution?

No solutions, but there does seem to be a connection with older or perhaps non-Apple USB devices.
I've an older USB cam that works well with iChat and SecuritySpy while in Tiger. Restart into Leopard and kernel_task and syslogd continuously grab memory and CPU until they get so high the machine is useless. Switch video input to an external iSight and those two behave although I must restart to clear them. But, although iChat uses a similar amount of memory as it did under Tiger, it grabs over 90% of the CPU, once again making the machine useless for anything else.
I also have an older Saitek joystick that works fine not only in Tiger but in Classic as well.
In Leopard it often doesn't mount until I unplug/replug it in one or more times.
My Apple KB and Kensington mouse seem to work OK (other then the mouse SW needs to be updated).

  • T400s Fails to shutdown when docked AND usb device connected to Dock

Title says it all, have a T400s running Windows XPSP2 that shuts down and or reboots fine UNLESS it is connected to a docking station with any usb device attached (to the dock). BIOS has been flashed, machine built from scratch using enterprise license and latest drivers from Lenovo's website. Microsoft patches have also been applied.
    Any clues?

We had a Lenovo tech on site today to see this problem.  The problem seems to show when there are USB devices in the dock and the camera software is installed.  If you uninstall the software or remove all of the USB devices from the dock then the laptop shuts down properly.  We tried two different USB mice as well as a flash drive and came up with the same result each time.  Even with the camera software removed from the laptop the integrated camera still works in Windows through the camera center.

Your notebook has three usb 3.0 ports. Have you connected a device that draws more than 100mA to one of the ports? That could overload the port and make it inoperative.  Some ports can be limited to 50 mA. It depends on the notebook's systemboard design. High power usb devices that are optionally powered by an external power supply should always be used with an external power supply. There are limits to the power capacity of the traces on the notebook's systemboard.

  • Vista and USB Devices Help

I have a Dell Axim handheld computer and a Garmin handheld GPS, which both use USB ports. In Vista, neither is recognized nor do I get the USB symbol in the tray area. However, a USB mouse is recognize and it functions properly. Does anyone have a solution to get my other USB devises working?
I've installed a Garmin Vista driver and even got the a Garmin tech involved, but with no success. Also the Sync Center in Vista isn't recognizing my handheld at all. Thanks in advance for the much needed help.
    GraceJC

It's really great that you're taking the time to help me.  I did several of the tests you recommend over the last two or three days.  It always shows that the iPod/iPhone/iPad isn't present.  Here's more.  I got a Norton tech to help me yesterday and it isn't the anti-virus, as we uninstalled everything and it still didn't work.  I went deeper into the system through the control panel, and found the device detected on the appropriate USB port, but it won't show up in "My Computer".  Two of the three devices show up on another PC, (I didn't test the third) so I'm leaning to something in iTunes because every other USB device I plug into the Vista ports shows up quickly and works perfectly (thumb drives, wireless mouse, camera, etc).  I already unistalled all Apple software and downloaded new, but the problem still exists.  I have restarted, unplugged, you name it and the devices aren't showing up.  I can't wirelessly sync either because one has to set that up through iTunes prior to doing it.

  • Terminal and USB device

Is there some way to capture and view the data being sent from a USB device (a GPS) at plugin time using Terminal?

Probably, but this is a question you would probably be better off posting on one of Apple's development forums or contacting the manufacturer of the USB device.

  • Window's XP, Labview, and USB device conflicts

    Hello,
I have labview 2011 running on windows XP SP3 with all of the updates and the USB hotfix.
I have several usb devices connected to my computer: 3 cameras, a picoammeter, a piezo drive controller, and an external hard drive.
I wrote labview code to use one of the cameras to take time lapse imagery, and it works great, so long as none of the other devices are on/connected.  The second I plug in another USB device invariably I get an error message:
    "Error 178 occurred at GetSingleImage.vi
This error code is undefined. Undefined errors might occur for a number of reasons. For example, no one has provided a description for the code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.
Additionally, undefined error codes might occur because the error relates to a third-party object, such as the operating system or ActiveX. For these third-party errors, you might be able to obtain a description of the error by searching the Web for the error code (178) or for its hexadecimal representation (0x000000B2)."
which according to the documentation is a USB transfer error.
I was told to update Windows XP with the newest updates, I did and it didn't help.  Someone also suggested using Windows 7, but several of my devices arent supported by windows 7 currently, so I don't want to upgrade and lose those devices.
The other thing is that when I use multiple devices with their respective software(not labview) they behave and play well together.  It's only when labview is accessing them that they don't behave and give me errors.
Does anyone know how to fix this?  I've been trying to fix it for a while with no success

We have a "monitoring" application that involves taking a short video (5 to 10 seconds) when a particular event occurs.  We used IMAQdx to acquire the images from an ethernet camera.  We are actually monitoring 24 sites simultaneously (and asynchronously), and as each of the cameras has its own IP address, it wasn't difficult to keep them "apart" from each other.
We recently tried doing the same thing using a USB camera.  When we used a single camera (one station), things worked pretty well, but when we tried using multiple stations (2 or 3, let alone 24!), we got "interference".  We attributed it to overloading the bandwidth of the USB channel -- as we already had a viable and working solution with (more expensive!) Ethernet cameras, we shrugged and (for now) gave up on using multiple USB cameras.

  • Network interface and usb device not working.

    hi everyone,
    I just installed Solaris 10 3/05 S10_74L2a x86
    on my home pc.
My motherboard comes with an in-built ethernet port for networking.
But after installing the OS, I can't access to the Internet (I logged in as root).
Then I do an ifconfig -a command, I see only the loop interface, my ethernet port interface connected to my modem is missing.
I also try to plug in a USB flash drive into my USB port but I cannot see what is inside my USB flash drive.
I have done a devfsadm -v command for that added USB flash drive.
    anyone knows what go wrong?
any help given will be greatly appreciated.
    thank you.
    good day :)

  • SunRay and USB Device...

    Hello everybody
1.Where can I read more about support and use of USB Stick on SunRay2 devices?
    Thanks in advance,
    aski

You can read Sun Ray administration guide , particularly Massstorage chapter.
When one inserts a disk to Sun Ray , it will automatically mounts under /tmp/SUNWut/mnt/$USER.
You could also read utdiskadm man page and it's see also man pages for more information.

  • Firewire and USB ports not recognizing devices

All of a sudden, some of our MacBooks don't recognize firewire and usb devices. It's weird, but after about a week, one of the MacBooks suddenly started recognizing a video camera, again, but it's troubling because my users need to be able to import movies and pictures from digital devices.
We ran the updates, and it did not help. We have been using these devices with our MacBooks for over a year, and this happened at the worst possible time. Any ideas?
I've tried both self- and AC-powered devices, rebooted, powered off and on, made sure everything is plugged in, etc.

    Try Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Thinkpad W520 with Minidock+ Series 3 - Dual monitors and USB fail sporadically

    Hello there,
I wonder if anyone has experienced problems ThinkPad W520 and Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (Part number: 433830U)? I run into problems with dual monitor and USB devices.
For dual monitor setup, sometimes only a single monitor is detected, sometimes no monitors are available in the NVidia control panel. Rigorous display detection doesn't help. Disabling Optimus in BIOS doesn't seem to affect it. After I dock and undock couple of times, reboot, unplug the power cord, it seems to resolve and both monitors work fine.
Also, I run into troubles with USB devices (keyboard/mouse). Sometimes they are not detected at all, but if I plug them into different USB ports on the mini dock, they are detected and work fine.
For me this problem happens about 50% of the time when I dock... Any ideas, insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Could it be a faulty Thinkpad, docking station or may be both? I really to upgrade next time to W530, but I've been through so many problems with W520, so I don't know if it's a good idea...
    Thanks so much.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If system update isn't finding anything, and the system works just fine on its own, it could potentially be a faulty Dock.
It could be overloaded.  Could you try testing the dock using just one monitor, and no keyboard or mouse, to see if you run into the same issue.  It would still be a faulty dock, but it may be a potential workaround for the time being.
