My magic trackpad settings do not save

Hi I just bought and successfully paired my magic trackpad with my Macbook Pro 2011, running Mountain Lion.
However the trackpad settings do not save for longer than a few minutes. It keeps reverting back to the default.
This is really annoying. It also affects the normal trackpad when I have unpaired the magic trackpad, so I suspect it is some glitch in the OSX.
Appreciate any help!
Tom

Make sure that you have continuous auto assign buttons NOT checked for the menu or the buttons can keep on being reset - are they reset to what the original navigation was set (in other words if the buttons were not moved like you did, they would navigate.) Picture below shows where to select not auto assign in pull down

  • System Settings will not save my desired mouse scroll direction

I understand the Apple genius of wanting the Settings: Mouse: Scroll direction: Natural box to be checked.  But **** it, this is MY iMac and I want the scroll direction to remain Unchecked, so the screen scrolls in the direction I’ve been used to for YEARS.
The problem is the System Settings will not save the unchecked scroll box.  I have to return to the System Settings every time I log on to UN check the Scroll Direction: Natural box.
Will Apple ever fix this so that I, and others, can operate the scrolling as THEIR LONG-TIME USER sees fit?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Global security settings do not save

    Hello,
I'm using Flash version 10,0,12,36 on a new XP Pro 64bit
system. We are running Flash projects from a network drive which
works just fine on 32bit systems by allowing folder permissions in
the Global Security Settings manager. These settings will not save
on the 64bit version. The only reason I can think of is that the
32bit "program files" directory is called "program files (x86)"
which may not be what the player is looking for when attempting to
    save the setting.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jason

It's cause the SP 2 sux, change the security settings and try again, in MSIE you can do this under the Edit or Tools menu.

  • Magic trackpad single tap not working

    Hey Everyone,
So I have a new 2014 mac mini, and I have the magic trackpad and wireless keyboard connected to it.  In my settings I have the "single tap" turned on, but when actually "tapping" with a single press, it doesn't work.  The only way it works is if I actually use the click function.  Now, I have bootcamp loaded up and these functions works perfect on my windows 8.1 partition.  Any suggestions?

Using Lion 10.7.2, iMac 2010, Bluetooth trackpad, keyboard and mouse. Suddenly computer screen/screens would freeze after a prolonged (hours>overnight) sleep, no response to the trackpad or keyboard, requiring a restart. Problem has been fixed for past 2+ weeks, after performing the following:
    1. Connect USB keyboard and mouse and restart computer.
    2. Remove all 3 Bluetooth devices and partially remove batteries.
    3. Turn off Bluetooth in System Preferences.
    4. After overnight sleep, turn on Bluetooth in System Preferences.
    5. Reconnect Bluetooth keyboard. Waited another day.
    6. Reconnect Bluetooth trackpad and mouse.
    7. After overnight sleep, everything was OK.
    8. Removed USB mouse and keyboard.
    9. No further problems with sleep>freezing and bluetooth devices all OK.

  • Various settings will not save after restart or reboot.

Macbook Pro 15 Early 2011 here. I keep modifying my dock and some of my trackpad settings, but everytime I restart my computer it goes back to the default state. Safari also opens with the same webpages everytime, as if it's stuck in the past or something. Is this a permissions issue? If not, what should I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

What your describing with the Dock and trackpad sounds like either wrong permissions or corrupted preference files (.plist).
Download the free OnyX here and run all the first checks, then do ALL the cleaning and maintainence tasks and make SURE to reboot when your done!
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx
Note: for Snow Leopard or earlier operating systems, scroll down you need to MATCH the OS X version your using.
After you do that run OnyX again and under the Verify is a preference file checker, check the box that says "show only corrupt .plist" files and run that.
Note all the corrupt .plist files, we will have to find them and delete them using the free Easy Find
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/EasyFind.app.zip
Once you do those two things, reboot the machine and try to set your preferences again in the Dock and trackpad.
Another way is to open the Users/Library/Preferences folder and look for
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.dock.plist
and deleting those files that way.
Far as Safari, that could be a feature to open all previous web pages, OnyX will clean that out for you when you ran it, but likely it will do it again when you use Safari as it's trying to be helpful or something should be able to disable it somewhere.
Tell us what your OS X version is and your MacBook Pro model, it's something like MacBook Pro 3,1 or 8,2 under your Apple menu > About this Mac > More information.

  • Cookie settings do not save, is there a fix?

Every time I try and save my privacy and security settings in Firefox, they revert to default. I am aware that this issue has already arisen, however none of the suggested solutions work.

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" selection as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />

  • BlackBerry Z10 notification settings do not save

I’m having an issue with saving my notification settings on my Z10. They do not save! For example, when I select the normal profile, I set all the notifications individually as to my preferences – phone, emails, text messages, Facebook, Twitter etc. until everything is perfect. Then I select another profile, for example, silent, and repeat the process of setting the notifications individually for each application. Once I switch back to the normal profile, I notice that all of the settings I customized are gone and replaced by default settings. Basically, every time I change the mode, the settings that I customized for that mode are lost. This is a problem for all modes. I don’t want to have to re-set all the settings every time I want to change the profile! In addition, the ringtone that I customized does not play when I receive a call – I can see that the ringtone I want is selected, but it does not work. Whenever I receive a phone call, my phone plays a default ringtone and not the one I selected. It is really annoying to not be able to count on my notifications, and was hoping this would be fixed with the 10.2 update, but it has not. I’ve also tried doing a battery pull a few times. I have not been able to find a way to resolve this problem. Please help!

  • Magic trackpad jerky and not smooth lots of troubleshooting to no avail.

Uggg... so I swear this started a few days ago when I was trying to do the photo's upload (didn't work) but it might just have been coincidence...
My magic trackpad (bluetooth enabled using with my iMac) is crazy jerky and NOT smooth at any speed.... here is all the info... this is VERY strange.
A regular plugged in mouse works fine.
The trackpad IS jerky on other users.
I have cleaned it and dried it multiple times
Brand new batteries reading at 100%
Have un paired and paired it again.
Have paired the Trackpad with ANOTHER COMPUTER and it works FINE.
    I am at a loss.
All software updates are up to date.  I have turned bluetooth off and on.
Ugg... I literally can't think of anything else to do... I obviously am using this CONSTANTLY so any ideas would be much appreciated!

  • Magic Trackpad driver did not install correctly

    Hi,
I have a brand new 27" iMac with OS-X Lion and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate using BootCamp 4 per the published instructions. All works perfectly well except the Magic Trackpad which is totally unrecognised: whilst installing the bootcamp drivers in Windows I got one message saying a device driver had failed to install correctly - and in the Windows control panel I see this...
All other posts I can find relating to similar issues seem to be for BootCamp 3 and none seem to indicate this problem.
Can anyone help with this ?

UPDATE: shortly after posting this it started working! Must take a while for the Bluetooth drivers to sort themselves out....

  • Firefox security settings will not save any of my passwords even when i click on the check box for saving passwords. please help.

When a pop-up comes up on the screen it will ask to save my password or not, well, I click on save password but it doesnt save any passwords even when I have the check box checked for remembering my passwords for certain sites it will not save any type of passwords at all. What am I doing wrong? I am using linux-mac OS user.

Simply because I don't think about using this option that takes more time to close... I always close ALL my windows with the X.
Firefox doesn't hang at exit also...
Using Firefox / Exit doesn't always save the bookmarks also... let's say there is 80% chances it will but not always... I noticed the first time I open firefox after booting the computer... Bookmarks won't be saved... But if I close firefox and re-open it, then it might save it... 50% guess...
I tried the safe mode, but since its closing firefox and re-open it... new saved bookmarks sometimes work, sometimes don't... it's pretty unstable...
Hopefully there is a solution to this problem in a near update, annoying... else I will simply reverse to firefox 3.6.16

  • Magic Trackpad Connected or Not?

Bluetooth in menubar says it's connected to "Apple Wireless Trackpad."
Trackpad preferences says "No trackpad found."
Maybe this is why I find the Magic Trackpad harder to use than the trackpad on my MacBook Air.
Had a hard time just finding the trackpad software.

When you go to System Preferences>Trackpad do you see the Magic Trackpad in the movie on the right? If so then everything is installed OK.
If you hit that "Set Up Bluetooth Trackpad.." button on the same screen you get a "No trackpad found" message. Everyone gets that. Also hitting help (?) for the first time will give you an error. I think these are both bugs.
    Your trackpad is connected.

  • New settings do not save in local

    Hi all,
I've a problem with flash in local: When I change settings
(like for (un)active the microphone or the storage settings), the
news settings are not saved. This "bug" don't work online...
What do I have to do to correct this? I use Vista SP1, I
tried to re-install flash 9 (before I've uninstall it), reset my
PC, re-download and re-install programs who I use in local
    Thanks

Can you provide a screenshot of your settings? (Obscuring any personal info, of course.) Can you provide the error message you are getting?
Many people have gotten the new settings to work on Mac platforms, but without seeing your settings it is going to be very hard to figure out where the problem is.

  • Adapter settings do not save

I have several devices, computers, DirecTv, Sonos, etc on my home network.  Most of the devices have static IP addresses, rather than allowing my router to assign dynamic addresses and specify the DNSsettings.  Most devices are wired, rather than
wireless.  Whenever one of the computers is shut down, on purpose or otherwise, the specific DNS adapter settings are lost.  I use DynDNS and the settings are 216.146.35.35 and 216.146.36.36.  I manually enter then in the adapter settings and
I have proper functionality.  However, if the computer has to be restarted, the settings are lost, nothing appears in the primary and secondary DNS settings on the router.  I have to re-enter them.  The network function is on the motherboard.
    It is a Gigabyte Z77-D3H.
Any idea what causes the settings not to save when the computer shuts down?  Thanks for any insights.

  • Compressor custom settings will not save after reboot

I am having a problem with compressor removing my custom settings after I restart the program. I will save a custom format and it will show up in the custom folder however as soon as I close compressor and restart it shows 0 in the customer folder. I am guessing this is a bug in the new version but does anyone have any ideas? Also where do I submit a bug for compressor? Thanks

I, too, have been experiencing this for quite a while in Compressor 3.  I upgraded to Compressor 4 this week, thinking that that, might solve my problem, but no.  Same thing is happening in Compressor 4.
I have trashed my preferences, but still no luck.
