My Magsafe 85W Power Adapter recently died.

I have this L connector, and lately these pins have been stuck inside the connector, so its been difficult to charge. But last week the plastic around one of the grounding pins melted. The retailer told me that it is 5 years warranty on the chargers,so i sent it in so they could take a look. Today i was told that the warranty was declined due to too much dust on the port on my Macbook. They havent even seen the port on my mac,so how can they come to this conclusion? Do they have secret agents with cloaking equipment that sneak around in peoples houses?

Not sure who you talked to but the warranty on the charger is the same as on the rest of the computer. One year standard warranty and can be extended to a total of 3 years with the purchase of the Applecare extended warranty.
So go out and buy a new charger.

  • Does anybody know if it is ok to use a standard travel adaptor with macbook magsafe 85w power supply?

I am moving to New Zealand and want to take my macbook pro with me.
    I have a Magsafe 85w power supply.
I am aware of the apple travel kit.
Do i need to purchase this, or is a standard travel adaptor safe?
Do i need a lower watt magsafe power supply?
Should i get a grounded 3 prong adaptor rather than the ungrounded 2 prong adaptor that comes with the apple travel kit? Particularly with long term use.
    Thank you all!

The item that is crucial is the connector to the AC outlet.  The power adapter will work from 100 to 240 volts.
    Ciao.
A grounded plug is always preferable.

No, the one is just an extension cord,          just use the 45W charger with its attached thin cord and connect the magnetic magsafe to to the connector on the back left of the macbook Air for use and charging it

  • HT1349 Is the Apple Magsafe 2 Power Adapter covered under Apples one year warranty?  I cant figure out how to check the date.  The serial number is to long to enter.

I need help finding out warranty information on the Apple Magsafe 2 Power Adapter.  When I enter the serial number, it is too long for the box.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I got this from my father.  It looks like it is an aftermarket package and not something that came with the original Mac. I will try to attach a picture of the item box and the barcode label.  The actual part number is MD506LL/A .

My Magsafe AC Power Adapter pack is making a buzzing noise when it's connected up to the electricity! I've tried it in different sockets around the house and it's still making the same noise.
Don't know if anyone can help or reassure me before i contact Apple UK

All that you need is a standard international plug kit. The adapter itself will work at any voltage. Apple has an international kit -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB974ZM/B/apple-world-travel-adapter-kit?fnode =3c.

  • MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging?  Help

MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging?  Help

Both the system and the charger are still under warranty. If you feel you have a defective part you should take both into apple to be checked out and replaced if found defective.
I also sugest you buy the applecare extended warranty before your standard one year warranty expires, you can only buy it during the original one year warranty. Once that has expired you can no longer buy it.
To fix any mac computer once out of warranty is expensive and even more so for the retina models.

  • New 85W Power Adapter

My puppy recently chewed through my power adapter, and the Apple Store is currently out of stock. I'm assuming that the majority of the $80 cost is due to the brick part, not the wire. Is it possible to simply buy a new wire and attach it to the current adapter instead of buying a whole new one?

hey, check my other thread. Mine just bit the dust too and it appears that the old version is completely MIA until the new ones comes out later next month. I ordered one online but I have no idea if i'll actually get it. Clint, in my other thread, mentioned a place that had them online (LAElectronics or something like that, go check that thread out) and I ordered from J&R Music World (who may or may not actually have them in stock).
Still, pretty shifty of Apple to remove any ability of ordering the adapter from them until the new ones come out (a guy at the Apple Store even told me they had pulled them from the Apple Store shelves, not sure if that is actually true or not). These are essential to the operation of the MBP, it's not like i can run to Best Buy and get a third party adapter.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

    Hello All,
I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Simple answer, no its not normal
The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard

  • Do Apple MagSafe 2 power adapters break easily?

I was about to order a Magsafe 2 power adapter for my rMBP so I could keep one at home and one at work.  But there are hundreds of reviews at store.apple.com saying they break easily, the wires fray, etc.  but I've seen very few complaints about them on this or other user forums, and none of the five I've owned for various MacBooks since 2010 have ever broke.
Are Macbook power adapters really so unreliable and prone to breaking?  Or is it possible that the reviews at Store.apple.com are so dominated by trolls as to be unreliable?

People don't often write reviews about things as mundane as power adapters unless they have something to complain about. I have one that's only recently started to fray. It's four years old. I have many others as old, or older, and they're fine. Treat them carefully and they ought to last the life of your Mac.

  • Power Adapter A1290

I have a MacBook Pro Early 2009 with a 85W power adapter A1290 (t style) that needs replacement. Can I use the 85W MegaStyle with the L style? I can not find a T style anywhere to buy.

    Miked0623,
if you meant MagSafe rather than MegaStyle, then yes, you can use the L-style MagSafe AC adapter. If you prefer the T-style, you can probably find one on online auction sites.

  • Replace power adapter for Tecra 8100

    Hi support,
I have Tecra 8100 where its original power adapter has died. I need to buy a new one, but I found that Toshiba has replaced the PA2444U adapter model with a new model. Which power adapter model that is now compatible with Tecra 8100?
Thanks. I really need an answer because I need to work with the laptop.

The Tecra 8100 will function with many adapters from Tecra 8000, 8200, 9000, 9100 and the M1, M2 range etc.
There are of course differences in the output current rating, but in practice it is still possible to use a higher output adapter without issue, provided the voltage is 15V DC.
For example, I am currently using a model PA2450U (15V, 3A) plugged into my Tecra 9100 port replicator and this works fine. The only potential down side is that it might take longer to charge the battery than it would with the correct model (which would be rated 4A).
This means you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a suitable substitute.

  • Does this mean my power adapter is dead?

Last night, out of nowhere, suddenly it seems like my power adapter has died. But I'm not totally sure. I have read about the unreliability of these adapters and the complaints about them in the Apple Store.
Before I rush to buy a new one, can anyone tell me if it's really dead?
When I plug it in, the computer recognizes it. The menu bar says "Calculating" as if it is trying to figure out how much time it will take to charge my battery. But that's all it says. The battery percentage has been draining. (I am going to move important things to a different computer in a few minutes.) Neither the green light nor the orange light on the plug is lit.
I tried everything I could think of including a PMU reset, adding the "extension cord" thing (instead of using the plug that has movable prongs), and switching to a different power outlet. I can't think of anything that would have killed my adapter.
So is this thing really broken or is it something with my computer? I have the 45W charger. I need help fast before I don't have any power left to do any troubleshooting. It looks like I might have to get a new charger, rush delivery! Please help if you can, thanks.

WHEW... It WAS my computer, and a very minor problem.
I had a local Mac guru bring another power adapter over to my house and it worked. However, it became intermittent when wiggling the plug. So I plugged my charger back in and discovered that it works when I push down lightly on it. I had tried twisting it before and pushing a little, but not quite the same way.
The problem then is with the computer itself... the connection is just a tiny bit loose. The computer has been carried around in a protective backpack and moved around a lot for a few years so it doesn't surprise me, plus I did pull on the cord sideways once.
I'll have to see about getting the computer opened up to fix the connection. But for now, whoo hoo... I have charge!!! Thanks.
