My mail has gone crazy!!!!

several days back I opend my Mac mail to find it was acting like an out of control redheaded stepchild! First off it really goes back to when I upgraded to 10.3 that I started to notice mail acting weird. First off, before I can even open my mail. I must clear all mail on my dotmac inbox, otherwise my other mail will crash as soon as I open it. This has really become a headache too, as I always can't keep the inbox clear before opening mail. My pop account seems to be where bulk of the problem is. For the longest time I was unable to send mail out using my pop account....no big problem, I'd just switch to mail account, and send out my mail. But now I noticed that it will not receive my incoming pop mail. This has been going on for two days now! Prior to that, it was no problem receiving mail for pop account.
None of my setting have changed for pop account, so I'm lost as to what is going on? How can I retrieve my mail?
mahalo,
Roger

I decided to examine mail a bit closer. I went to the mail column in the Apple menu Bar hoping to find an answer to my problem. I have a quest maybe someone could answer for me. Down the mail column I saw this:
online status....."Take POP offline",
TAKE................ **@mac.com offline
then I double clicked on "GET NEW MAIL":, both my POP account & @mac.com account both were "greyed out"? I'm not a computer geek so I'm wondering if these two settings had something to do with my mail problems?

Mail has gone crazy. Header's and messages are mixed up. New Mac Book Pro. Migrated files from Time machine running snow leopard. Reinstall or new computer needed?

Ok; I'm not sure what you're doing.    36 hours is rather long.  Seems like a new migration.  Not what I intended.
Here's what I intended: from the newly-migrated and apparently-corrupt environment, create a new user, not related to any existing user, nor any migration-created user, or any other user for that matter.  That is, use  > System Preferences > Users and Groups, authenticate yourself by clicking on the padlock, and then click the + and create a wholly new user.  Then log in under that user and establish the mail access.
36 hours?  I'm wondering if there's an error or an exceedingly slow network here?  Or a really, really slow disk?  Or a sick backup?  (WiFi isn't the path I'd usually choose, either.)
Failing the attempted second migration, I'd try a different tactic.  Does your existing (old) system work?   If so, I'd bypass the backup and connect an external (scratch) USB disk drive to the (old) sstem and then boot and use Disk Utility booted from the installer DVD disk or boot and use Disk Utility from the recovery partition or booted from a recovery partition created on some other external storage (details here vary by the OS X version and what hardware you have), and perform a full-disk backup of your original internal disk to (scratch) external storage.  (Make sure you get the source and target disks chosen correctly here; copying the wrong way — from the scratch disk to your existing disk — will clobber your data!)  In esssence, this will clone your existing boot disk.  Then dismount the (formerly-scratch) external disk, transfer it over to the new system, and use it as the source of the migration, by performing a fresh OS X installation on the new system.
Target Disk Mode is also sometimes an option for accessing the disk for a migration, but that requires the right cable, and requires systems that have the same external connection; newer MacBook Pro systems use Thunderbolt for this, and older systems tend to use FireWire.  And I'm guessing you don't have compatible hardware.
The details here can and do vary by your OS X versions and your particular Mac systems — if you'll identify the specific models and hardware, somebody might be able to better tailor the above (fairly generic) sequence to your particular configuration.

  • Mail has gone crazy!!

I have suddenly not been able to open up my Mail to view since today.
I can physically open it, but just have no access to it. It just seems to drop down into the bottom right hand corner and I am unable to access it. When I do my hot corner, the mail appears bottom right and I then click on it, and it brings up the firefox tab, or any other program, and puts the mail back in the bottom right corner again.
This is kind of hard to explain, but its really odd.
Anyone know of this happening to them?? Is it the Mail, or OS X?!!
If anyone can help that would be great.
    thanks for your time
    jonathan

This sound wired, but try this:
-in system preferences, create a new user account and log over to that user.
    -open mail.
If mail is playing nice in a new user account you should log back to your original user. Go to ~/Library/Preferences/ rename com.apple.mail.plist to com.apple.mail.plistOLD
    -open mail.
If mail still acts up its your OS X thats causing this.
    Best o´luck

  • Help, my system has gone crazy!

My imac G5 running Leopard, 10.58 Processor 18 GHz, Memory 2GB has gone crazy.  I cannot open ITunes.  If I try to download a small file it says my memory is nearly full and I need to clear disk space.  Okay I have a few songs on iTunes and 7,900 photos on iPhoto, but that is all.  I try to open a document in Word and it says 'you are working without a Word work file and your memory is nearly full'. I am not receiving e-mails when I know they have been sent. What is happening?

Don't worry about Filevault, likely you're not using it if you don't know what it is, but...

Less than 2GB free is very dangerous, you could loose everything as it's not really free space for our use.
An 80GB drive is really too small for later versions of OSX, you need to free up at the very least another 10 to 20GB.

    Is spotlight finished re-indexing?
If it is not a drive problem, maybe it is a runaway application. This article shows how to use Activity Monitor to check for that:

HELP HELP HELP PLEASE I REALLY NEED MY IPHONE.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If basic troubleshooting does not resolve, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
Be aware that the iPhone warranty is NOT International.  You will need to either return to the US with the device and take it to Apple or ship it to someone you know in the US to take it to Apple.

  • My 3GS has gone crazy

I have a 3Gs that has gone crazy. Out of a sudden, voice control starts, plays music and even makes calls sometimes, the phone starts switching between applications (closes and opens them) and I can't do anything to stop it even when I touch the cancel button. It does this over and over again. At the same time this problem happened, the home button stopped working. Well it works sometimes when I restart the phone but not always. I don't think it's a matter of pressing the button hard because when it works, it's always the same press I use as before.
I upgraded to iOS4 but the problem still exists. I hope someone out there can give a hand.
    Thanks

I did restore the device couple of times and I still have the same problem .. And on more thing, everytime I restored it, I get a msg on iTunes that the device is in recovery mode and that I had to restore the device!!

  • Apple Mail has gone completely screwy since Mavericks upgrade

    Hi everyone...
I truly feel like crying. I upgraded to Mavericks on both my main desktop and also my laptop and it seems that all of my mail on both the Desktop and the laptop has gone completely topsy turvy in Apple Mail. It seems like a lot of my messages are being routed in a completely different way! And most of them are simply disappearing to goodness knows where!
Why on earth when I send a message to my home email address at **@att.net does it land up in my Gmail Archived folder under one of Gmail's All Mail folders (for one of my Gmail accounts) even tho' I did NOT send to a Gmail account?
So many strange things are happening! And most of them are concering this "Archive" folder for Gmail.....SO MANY of my emails are being dumped into those Gmail ALL Mail folders when they were not even addressed to a Gmail account!! This is happening on both my laptop AND my main desktop...so I know that it is not just on one of the stations.
Also, I have been getting notifications on my phone of LOTS of messages that have been sent my way but they are not appearing in my mail app...and when I search for them I cannot find them...as if these messages have just vanished!
I cannot have this happen because I am now missing out on all of my work emails!
I have been sending a bunch of test messages to my **@chgraphicdesigns.com.account and I will see the message pop into the INBOX for just a second and then suddenly disappear. I am not able to find these test messages by doing a search for them either. What has happened to them?? I am now missing a TON of work emails I received earlier today...I had seen notification of them popping in throughout the day but was going to attend to them later due to a huge project I was working on...but now those emails are nowehere to be found!
I turned off Mail and tried out Thunderbird and that is working PERFECTLY, so it is just Apple Mail that is having all of these issues. This is just awful:(( It is so messed up I literally want to cry. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thank you so much for your help in advance:)

I have managed to restore many of my emails from Time Machine, manually re-created many of my original mailboxes and re-populated them with the restored mail messages but after doing so I discovered another bug with the latest version of the Mavericks/Mail combo.  The bug that I am experiencing is that some of the emails in my folders are "invisible" when I open the folder and can only be located using a spotlight search within that mailbox for a term that occurs within the "invisible" email, at which time the previously "invisible" email is viewable but only in the results that the Spotlight search brought up.  When I close the Spotlight results, the email goes back to being "invisible" again in the mailbox from which it is identified as having come from.  I know that Spotlight ios not pulling it from some other mailbox that I might have accidentally placed it in, as Spotlight's search results indicate which mailbox the message was found in.  I never would have discovered this bug if it weren't for the fact that I was trying to locate a message that I knew to exist because I had previously printed a hard copy.  The date shown on my hard copy was non-existent on any messages in the mailbox unless I did a spotlight search for unique phrases in it, at which time it showed up.  Has anyone else noticed this problem happening to them?

  • Mail has been "crazy"

My mail has been acting very strange. All my mail appeared in my junk mail folder, all marked as junk. All the sent mail was marked as junk, and old mail I had deleted, and emptied from trash showed up in my inbox. I went to the genius bar, and we deleted all the junk mail, but by the time I got home, it had all returned. I am occasionally receiving mail, which I have sent to others, in my inbox, addressed to me, from me. And I still have an occasional sent email going into drafts. I marked the mail in the junk folder, and the sent folder, as not junk, put the emails where they belong, and so far , that issue seems to be OK. I then reset my junk filter. I'm not complaining at all, but I have not gotten one junk mail since last Friday, that's what prompted me to check my junk folder on Sunday, and discovered what had happened. I was getting swamped with spam until then. Now no junk at all. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, or if anyone might have an answer as to what caused this to happen. Thanks for any help or input that might come my way! CGM

Since I had no answer here, I took my issue to the Apple Store Genius Bar, and problems were solved there.

  • Help! my ical has gone crazy!

i do not know what happened but ever since it became 2006 my ical has been very confused about what date it is. sometimes it shows dates correctly but usually it is a day off. for example, right now the large calendar view is telling me that today is saturday, feb 10. it IS saturday, but it's the 11th. What has gone wrong? the miniature view is telling me that today is friday, feb 10.
in addition to these problems, when i add a new event it won't allow me to put the correct times in. if i want to set an appointment for 8:00 i have to type in the number 6. i know that sounds really weird, but it's true. for the lower numbers like 1 and 2 there is nothing i can do because in ical world 1 is actually 3 and 2 is actually 4, etc.
this is the strangest thing that has ever happened and is getting me very confused about my schedule.
