  • Mail icon shows 3 unread emails but I've read them all

Can not seem to get rid of 3 unopened emails on mail icon. I checked all accounts and mailboxes?

you could create a smart mailbox to filter unread emails, go to mail menu, mailbox>create smart mailbox, and choose the unread email rule. then look in the smart mailbox to see which emails show up.
you can also select the option you would like for dock unread count, go to mail>preferences>general.
    hope this helps

  • Mail icon shows (1) unread msg, but all msgs are read

Yesterday, my mail icon showed one unread message. When I clicked on the app, there were no new messages, but now the (1) won't go away. How do I get the (1) to go away?
    null

I also have the badge showing unread emails at a higher number than emails in my inbox. I think it may be because i deleted a number of emails from iPhone in box without opening them because i had already read them on my Mac. How can i reset. Home/sleep buttons don't do the job. Other remedies?

downloaded mt lion on my iMac, now when i start the computer my outlook email automatically opens.  When I right click on the mail icon it isn't checked to open on startup.  How do i correct this

This is probabaly caused by the resume feature. When you log out, uncheck the box that appears.

  • TS3899 My mail account shows 1340 unread emails, yet the inbox is empty with no subfolders.

My "Mail" app shows that I have 1340 unread emails in red.  When I go to the inbox, it says 1340 unread emails, yet there is none in the inbox.  I have checked my mail provider adn there is no emails there either.

First if you have multiple inboxes please make sure that you're looking at the all inboxes category. If this is correct then try removing the account and adding it back. If no joy
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Can't get rid of unread mail icon--shows 2 unread messages but can't find any

I've got a smart mailbox that shows unread messages so I can easily see what new and unread mail I have.  The problem is it gives me the notification icon that indicates I have two unread messages, yet the mailbox does not show any messages as unread...  This isn't a huge problem, but the Mail icon in my dock always shows that I have new mail, and the notification icon is small enough that I can't always clearly see if it's the "usual 2" or a higher number.  What could be causing this and how do I either find the unread messages or get this icon reduced to where it only shows me REAL unread messages?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • I have two songs that show up in Music on my phone, but when the phone is connected to my computer, those two songs don't show as being on the phone in iTunes.  How do I fix this?

I tried erasing all the music on the phone, and putting it back.  When I plugged in my headphones yesterday to listen to music while doing the dishes, and then pressed the button on the headphones to start the music, a song that I didn't add to my phone started playing.  I have the option to Show All Music turned off in settingsm but the songs still show up.  I am getting frustrated with this.

the safest way would be method one from this support article:

  • HT4528 The screen when accessing text msg or trying to type increases in size and I can't see the entire keyboard, also a problem in the basic screen the icons get huge, almost like the ipad screen size. How do I correct?

Sometimes when using the text screen, the font for the keyboard increases in size limiting the view of the entire keyboard on the screen. So far the only way to correct is to poweroff the iphone and the poweron aqgain and the problem ius corrected. This also happens on the basic screen, the size of the icons are enlarged, to a size that you can only see one or two icons or parts of them.

Try going to Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom to be sure it's off.  If the screen is already magnified, double-tap the screen with three fingers to zoom out.

  • Mail icon shows new messages but cannot access them

I am setting up my email account on my new iPod Touch.  Put in all the info, the account is verified, the mail icon shows 50 unread messages, but when I tap the icon I see the same old list of mail services, iCloud, MS Exchange, but not my account.  My mail service, an independant, supports pop and iMac so I have set it up as both and neither works.  Seems like it is logging into the account.  Any idea?

It is covered in the Troubleshooting chapter of the iPod users Guide. It includes:
    "Restarting and resetting iPod touch
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPod touch, forcing an app to close, or resetting
    iPod touch.
Restart iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger
across the slider to turn off iPod touch. To turn iPod touch back on, hold down the On/Off button
until the Apple logo appears. \"

  • HT3228 My mail icon shows how many I have, but there isn't any list on the left side.  I will read your answers on another computer.   I can send OK.

My mail icon shows how many I have, but the screen is blank with no emails listed on the left side.  They used to be there.  I can send OK.
Any suggestions?  I will read replies on another computer until this is resolved.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
