My Mail is also screwed

After a year of using mail, it now hangs, with the spinner on the right, claiming to be 'Indexing 221 of 303' ad nauseam. The numbers relate to nothing in particular - sometimes boxes open full, sometimes empty. My .mac boxes are all empty. This is having a far from positive impact on life and business too. My son at a remote location with a Tiger setup reports similar, irregular instability. Latest app. upgrades all through.
Can't work this way, need stability, don't want the MS solution but time's tight. Help?

I do not have any important messages in the Drafts and Trash folders
that I moved to the desktop, so I would like to know what to do with them:

I'm not sure why corruption occurred with the account's Drafts and Trash mailboxes since I've never experienced the same.
This is more likely to occur over time primarily with the most active mailboxes which is why it is not a good idea to use an account's Inbox mailbox as the final storage location for all received messages not deleted. You should also use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - monthly or every couple of weeks or so depending on activity.
All email clients have limits and although an "overstuffed" mailbox issue (which means the mailbox has some corruption) can occur at any mailbox size, it is more likely to occur depending on the number and size of message attachments contained in a mailbox and especially as a mailbox approaches or exceeds 1 GB in size for Jaguar/Panther Mail and 2 GB for Tiger Mail.
You can utilize user created "On My Mac" mailboxes to sort received and sent messages by category that you need to save.

Ok let's try the simple things first, take it through a power cycle, power off after a minute or two, power on. Hold the power/sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to power off. Then hold the power/sleep button until it powers back up.
If that doesn't help, try a reset, holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts (ignore the red slider in this case).
If that doesn't work we can work through deleting and reentering the email account information.

Upgrading to firefox 5 and updating my plug-ins helped a bit. Frog is less 'sticky' now, but it's not solved the problem. Java needs to be up to speed or the frog goes into stasis....

Maybe you can help me. We have been getting incorrect password alerts across all devices.. MacBookAir, iPhone 4 & 4s and iPad 2. We have aol , gmail and bellsouth email accts. the thing is they work and then don't work and back and forth every couple of days.. Very frustrating. Apple genius bar suggested the gmail acct over aol and said that should work but it happens on gmail also. When they aren't working the notice comes up repeatedly and when you put the pw in it still says it is wrong. And then it will work at some later point.

Lenovo Refuses to mail me two screws!

Hello all,
I recently purchased a Lenovo G770 Laptop. It wouldn't boot, and gave me the error that there was no boot disk. I checked and the hard drive slipped loose since they forgot to screw it into the motherboard. I called Lenovo and they reefused to just mail me the screws. They stated that they have to wipe my hard drive to verify that it is not a software issue and that it would take 7-10 business days and that I would have to pay one way shipping since I bought an Essential Line Laptop instead of a Think-line laptop. They then said that they don't know what screw I would need. I looked at the repair manual and saw that I needed two "M2.5 x 4mm, flat-head, nylok-coated black Screws." Please help. If anyone has these screws or knows where to buy them, please let me know. Fry's, Micro Center and Radio Shack all do not carry them.

i did both of them, but still the while sending the mail the diolog box is not showing up and also the spelling and grammer does not do the spelling check.
This problem just started for about 3 to 4 days now. earlier it was working normally.

10.9.1: Mail 7.1 screws up Print layout / formatting

Mail 7.1 in Mac OS X 10.9.1 screws up the layout of Messages you try to Print.
The two most common symptoms are that:
1) Blank space is inserted after the Headers and before the first line of the body of the message, so that the body of the message starts on the 2nd page. These are apparently blank lines (not a Page Break) because if you reduce the scaling below 100% the body of the message starts to show on the bottom of the 1st page, but still with a large chunk of bogus, blank space between it an the headers. And,
2) Extra blank pages are printed at the end of the message. This could be 1 to several blank pages. The number of extra blank pages is constant for each message, but differs between messages. These DO appear to be Page Breaks -- not simply a large chunk of blank lines.
These problems happen regardless of which printer is selected -- even happening if you Print via "Save As PDF".
These problems are NOT cured by Resetting the Printing System and then re-installing the printers.
For problem (1), the error seems to be uniquely associated with the use of "US Letter" Paper Size -- and only when used in Portrait orientation. If you switch to Landscape orientation, or if you use Portrait orientation with either US Legal Paper Size (which is larger) or A4 Paper Size (which is smaller) the bogus blank space after the Headers goes away.
However, problem (2) is NOT altered by switching either Paper Size or orientation. You still get the same number of bogus, blank pages at the end.
So far, I've only seen problem (1) when attempting to print Messages saved in my Sent folder. Problem (2) appears both with messages in the Inbox and Sent folders.
These problems only ever appear when the Message is printed. Messages viewed on screen have no such issues. The print formattting problems appear regardless of whether you Print the Message directly from the list of Messages in the Mail folder, or if you first double click on the Message to open it in its own window and THEN Print it.
Note that I have "Organize by Conversation" *NOT* selected in the view menu, so Reply and Forward messages include the prior text attached at the end -- forming one, longer Message. However, both problems (1) and (2) are exhibited on Messages which are comprised of a single Message *AND* Messages which included embedded text from prior Messages in their Reply or Forward chains. NOTE: Problem (1) only seems to show between the FIRST Headers and the start of the Message body -- not between any embedded Headers and the following text of their attached, Reply or Forward content.
Both problems also show both on Messages with attachments and Messages without attachments.
Has anyone found a way to cure these two problems?
Of course you can workaround problem (2) by adjusting the Print dialog to only print the non-blank pages. And you can kinda sorta work around problem (1) by selecting a Paper Size other than US Letter and then making judicious application of scaling in the Paper Handling sub-portion of the Print dialog, but these are manual steps you need to do DIFFERENTLY for EACH Message you want to print.

I should add that these Print formatting issues do *NOT* show on every Mail 7.1 message in Mavericks 10.9.1.
So far, I've not been able to ferret out just what it is about a Message that cause Print formatting to screw up. Things I believe I've ELIMINATED include:
1) Newly created Messages vs. old Messages.
2) Messages with or without attachements
3) Messages with or without signatures
4) Messages which include prior Messages in a Reply or Forward string, or not (i.e., single, original Messages)
5) Mesages with multiple recipients or not or with CC: recipients in the Header or not.
However this problem is by no means "random". Any Message that shows one of the Three Problems I've detailed above will exhibit that Problem every single time you try to Print it. Any Message which Prints cleanly, will continue to Print cleanly every time as well. So there is SOMETHING about the data in the failing Messages which is triggering this problem.
One new behavior I've noted is that for some Messages a new notice appears on screen -- briefly -- the first time you try to Print them. It appears so briefly that I may have the exact text wrong, but it is something like "Generating Print Content". I'm beginning to suspect the Printing problems show ONLY on Messages that need to go through that "extra step" the first time you try to Print them. But I don't know what that Message implies -- i.e., is there a new, "printable" file being generated by Mail specific to that Message which might persist across different Print attempts? If so, the error may be due to how THAT file is created.
This new notice only seems to appear the FIRST time you try to Print a Message -- and evidently not on every Message (or pehaps it is so brief on some Messages that I just don't see it).

Sending mail with attachments screws up signature images

Hello,
For work I have to use an image in my corporate signature. All works well on plain emails, but as soon as I add an attachment to a message, the image in the signature also becomes an attachment and leaves a blank space in the signature.
Tested on the receiving end with Gmail and Outlook.
Any ideas?
P.S. I can't use Exchange (office365) and must use IMAP. If I use Exchange, my message encoding gets screwed up and displays ? instead of čęėį. Lastly, if the attachment is inline, the rest of the message (after the attachment) is gone on the receiving end.

Try force closing the Mail app and resetting your phone. To do this, double-tap the home button, locate and swipe up on Mail to close it, tap the home button again, then hold the sleep/wake and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release. After it restarts, test Mail again.
If it still fails and this is an iCloud email account, try going to Settings>iCloud, turn Mail off, reset your phone again, then go back and turn Mail back on again. (This removes, then adds back your iCloud email account.)

My wife and I each have an Ipad and only one mail account. Both of us receive the same e-mails but when one of us deleates an e-mail it also deleates on the other Ipad. How can I stop this? I might delete an e-mail she wants to read. Thanks

If you both have the same email account, there's no setting on iPad you can use. When a message is deleted, it's deleted from the mail account server, which will happen on both devices.

We recently upgraded our iMac Intel 17" to S 10.9.2 and now it's crashing on a regular basis. The crash often occurs when viewing Mail but also when online using FireFox. Any ideas?

Based on your description, I would definitely try the troubleshooting linked above, especially the portion about troubleshooting potential RAM issues. You may also want to try running Apple Hardware Test to see if it detects any memory issues (you may need to run extended or looping testing):

When Mail is Open on iMac, how can I keep mail from also going to iPhone?

I spend most of the day on my iMac, with Apple Mail open. Over a few hours, I get dozens or more emails. I deal with them on my Mac as they come in or I have time. Now the same emails also show up on my iPhone and iPad. How can I keep from having the emails sent to my iPhone and iPad when I have mail open on my iMac? It used to be that when my iMac was open and mail on, I couldn't get mail on my iPhone, which is just what I wanted.
I've messed around with mail preferences, but maybe don't know what to set. (I know I can inactivate my account on the iPhone and iPad, but don't always remember to do that.)
