My Mail is just completely screwed up. Extra "Gmail" mailbox showing up
Can someone PLEASE help me?? :/
I copied my old "Mail" folder from Leopard. Then I copied it into my user "Libary" folder in Snow Leopard. Now, Mail opens and I have a "Inbox" and a "Sent" box under "Mailboxes". I also now have something under "Mailboxes" that says "Gmail"...that has another subfolder called "Gmail"...and then THAT has subfolders named All Mail, Drafts, Sent, Spam, Starred, Trash, Gmail Trash, Travel. It's like Mail is importing EVERYTHING from gmail. I dont want this! I want my old style of Mail back. I dont even care if I back up my previous emails, I just want Mail to work how it used to.
I never had this "Gmail" folder in mail before. Mail just used the standard Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc. Now it's pulling everything from Gmail. Also, I sent myself a test email. That email showed up in the "Sent" box, but it never came to my "Inbox".

Software Update should present the option to update to 10.6.1 -- I cannot think what may be inhibiting it? Open Software Update update, and then click on the Tab for Installed Software -- what updates of stuff are listed?
Insofar as your screenshot, that is normal for a Gmail IMAP account. Above the Gmail folder, the Inbox and Sent are your actual Inbox and Sent for this Gmail account. I don't pay any attention to these folders, mostly because they are far down the Sidebar below my many On My Mac mailboxes, below those types of folders for my other IMAP account. However, if you go to your setting on the Gmail web pages, in Forwarding and POP access, you can click the Advanced menu to exclude most of them, especially the All Mail -- I do. I can recheck how I have instructed others about how to do this, but you should be able to find it on your own. It is not messed up, but standard unless altered by excluding some of these folders. These folders are on the Gmail server, and you can see them via webmail access as well.
Were you perhaps previously accessing as a POP account?

What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!

Have I just completely screwed up my zen tou
I own a british Zen Touch and have lost the software cd. I had to reformat my entire laptop due to a virus, and so I lost the software that was installed. However, in order to transfer songs around, I tried downloding the software on the website. I first downloaded Creative ZEN and Jukebox Driver 2.0.00 and then Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer. ?However, I found that although mediasource 5 was installed on my pc, it couldnt find my player, despite it being recognised by my laptop. I then tried to install 'play for sure' and it said it would take 5 mins, but 30 mins later, nothing had happened so I rebooted my pc. now my mp3 player is stuck in recovery mode, claiming a firmware error. If i connect it to my laptop, it is occaisionally found, however if I try and install the other firmware, Creative Zen Touch Firmware Upgrade version .0.03[color="#000000"] , it says I cannot continue until my player is plugged in. But it is, and it says 'docked'?gahhh - is there anything I can do to get it so it is useable again? I dont mind losing all my songs, as they are backed up elsewhere (thankfully!) but I really need my player to be working again - I'm going travelling in a week, and 50 hrs on a greyhound without music will be torture! ?thanks so much!- Becky

Sorry to hear about the problem, Becky. Hopefully it's still not too late for you (ie, you haven't left yet).
I've had various problems with my Zen Touch and found that a reset usually works.

How can i undo the latest ios7 software update for my iphone4? It completely screwed up my phone!
I updated my iPhone 4 a few days ago to the latest operating system, iOS7. I've always proceed with the operating system updates because I assumed there were security fixes included as well as other fixes that were supposed to make the system run better. I haven't had any significant problems with updates in the past, except for some minor differences in appearance that didn't bother me. This time but the update appears to have completely screwed up my phone.
My first complaint is, where the **** did all of my apps go?? I paid for them, and now they're gone. Are they hiding in the iCloud? I had over 3 screens of apps, and now I've only got 1 screen.
My second complaint is, what was wrong with the appearance of the interface and icons in the previous version? The new system has gone with opaque pastel-colered icons that, frankly, I don't like as much as the icons in the previous system. And why does there have to be a gray band on the bottom row of icons?
My third complaint is everthing else on the phone is screwed up. Nothing works like it did before. Most of the photos I had on my phone have disappeared (iCloud??) Granted, my complaints about the appearance may seem trivial, but this is really annoying.
Can I reverse the iOS7 "downgrade" and go back to the good old days with the previous version when everything worked just fine and I was able to access all of my apps?You might want to check out these two threads:

After 40+ hours of trying to solve the problem, I finally confirmed 100% that this update is the issue, and fixed it by restoring to 3.5.3.
Just wondering why Apple has no info on this after the 20+ tech calls we made over past weeks fell on deaf ears, trying to blame our ISP.\...

Gmail stopped downloading; can redownload all mail but just want new items
Yesterday Mail stopped downloading my e-mail from Gmail via POP. Looking at an old forum post, I saw a suggestion from someone to try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 from the ~/Library/Mail/[account]/ folder. Doing so causes Mail to start downloading my mail from Gmail starting with the first message in my Gmail account, a process that would take days to complete. I tried to edit the file, but it doesn't really make sense to me. All of the "DateDownloaded" keys seem to have a value of sometime (different times) in February 2006. I tried leaving only one of them (I tried both the first key/value pair and the last), but that just started downloading from the beginning also.
Is there any way to get Mail to download messages only after x date, or to somehow fix whatever is wrong with my record of Uids Downloaded?

Does Mail actually complete the download or does it stall at some point? I mean, what may be happening here is that Gmail doesn’t mark those messages as already downloaded because Mail doesn’t complete the transaction.
The presence of MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 can certainly make a difference for messages that Gmail hasn’t marked as already downloaded for some reason or if there is something wrong with that file, but there is no way the presence of that file could have an impact on messages that had successfully been downloaded in a completed transaction.

Well, you talked about “programs”, not “devices”. Note that in the list of idiosyncrasies that you don’t find useful I talk about “conventional POP mail clients”. Some handheld devices appear to not be affected by this.

I am neither an incompetent computer user nor someone fabricating
this wacky e-mail story just for kicks.
Nor have I ever thought that was the case, but knowing how Gmail works, I do know that some of the things you said had to be necessarily wrong.
In particular, in the case of a Gmail account, there is no way removing MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 from the account folder might cause Mail to start downloading everything from the server again after having successfully done that at least once. The only way that might happen is if you had also selected Enable POP for all mail in Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, which you haven’t mentioned at all in any of your posts.
While you keep saying that you understand how Gmail works, the fact is that some of the things you’ve said are wrong, and you’ve ignored/omitted essential information about the things you’ve done that clearly indicate you don’t fully understand how Gmail POP access really works. I’m sorry if telling you that offends you, but I must do so in order to be able to help you... -

I just completed this task (support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my music to an external HD to free up my PC hard disc and all went well until I re-opened iTunes and it is a blank new account!
I also don't can't access anything from the recycle bin as when I copied the iTunes file to the recycle bin it said it was too large to copy over so made me effectively empty as I copied over as it was so big.
Any help gratefully recieved or where I can get some, I am going round in circles. I also don't know which itunes operating system I have, it is around 3 years old.hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

How do I remove Apple Mail from my hard drive? Over 10,000 downloaded into my mail and continues to freeze up--- I just want to use my gmail account directly
I go to Gmail to do my email yes, in my browser, but ya know how sometimes you click on a website to email someone and it pulls up apple mail, and then tons of email dump into apple mail and it frequently causes my computer to lock up and have to shut down w/escape. I thought it would be better to take it off if I could

Never had trouble before with my incoming mail but just now getting messege that says the user name or password for verizon is incorrect yet my home computer is fine only have this od my iPad
I experienced same problem tonight and called Verizon technical support and they walked me through the settings on iPad. Took about 5 minutes. Basically it involved changing incoming.verizon.net to pop.verizon.net and changing outgoing.verizon.net to smtp.verizon.net. But it's worth the call to ensure other settings are OK. Evidently, change at Verizon was effective today!

My iPhone 5 is not syncing with my iTunes 11.3, on OSx. I have just completed all of the most recent updates and have looked into completely uninstalling iTunes but I found my computer won't let me! Any ideas?

I just downloaded and installed the new iTunes on a Toshiba Satelite of some age. It was just completely reformated and updated with XP. iTunes will not open. The terms page comes up and when I agree it disappears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

Mail never quits completely, I have to force quit
Mac Mail never quits completely. I always have to force quit. What's up? I have it running, I hit CMD+Q and it closes, but you can see it running in the dock. I usually forget that it's running until the fan on my MBA starts running. Then I know MAIL is running. Why can't Mail quit when I tell it to? I'm running the latest version of Lion as of 5-7-2012.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

I just set up a new group and then added myself to the group. I clicked on send E-mail to group and a message appeared.

Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Warning: The process may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. For reasonable-sized mailboxes, it should only take a few minutes.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.
