My mail is not responding - hanging on icloud

After having issues with passwords, now I can't get the icloud mail to work.  It just spins and hangs.  If I try to go to icloud preferences it hangs there.  Help!

There are instructions on this page for how to create a new account without giving credit card details (the instructions won't work with existing accounts) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Unless an account is created via those instructions then credit card details will need to be entered on it before the account can be used.

Restart the machine in Safe Mode and attempt to open each app. Also please explain exactly how you are attempting to open the apps. For example, "When I click the Safari icon on the Dock it bounces but does not open." To start in Safe Mode hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone unitl a progress bar appears.

  • Mail is not responding. Just a spinning rainbow wheel!

    Hi can anyone help?
My mail is not responding, apart from the spinning wheel!
I have followed the instructions in this topic but cannot locate the following:
    Users/Username/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Any ideas - I am not a simpleton by any stretch and I have fixed this before, just running into problems this time!
    Thanks

Hi Ella, and a warm welcome to the forums!

  • HT5225 .Mac mail is not responding! Had to go through the whole "Move to iCloud" *twice because iCloud/Apple "acted all brand new" as if I hadn't taken care of this days ago! .Mac mail still not responding! What gives, Apple?

Like it says in the title, I already transfered to iCloud days ago, and now I go to check my e-mail and VOILA! Apple/.Mac/iCloud are acting all brand new, like I never did any thing!
So I go through the palabra again to continue using my .Mac e-mail, part of the whole *Family Pack* set-up I paid for each year circa $200 for the whole nine yards for the past six years, only to be told that in their infinite wisdom dwelling in their cushy bubble in Cupertino, Apple will no longer have the service I've been paying for, and "oh, don't worry, you can still have your e-mail"...
Still no e-mail. Still no consistently working .Mac service. Congratulations, Apple. Y'all are starting to look more and more like Microsoft, and no, that is not a complement.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

  • Mail does not respond when trying to set up new account

I'm trying to set up my brand new @me.com email account on my brand new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.1. I open Mail and it prompts me to write my name, email adress and password, which I do. Then, without fail, it says 'Searching for mail servers from the specified email address...' for a few seconds before freezing, with that message still displayed. I have to force quit Mail, which is said to be 'not responding'. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Mail is not responding

I downloaded about 100 emails this morning and then the Mail app froze. I forced it to quit, reopened it and it was still frozen. I shut the computer (a 2007 MacBook running OS 10.7.5) and came back to it this evening. The Mail App is still frozen and reports that it is not responding. Any ideas?

This is the first part of the error report after the program has been hung up for 37 minutes and I did a force quit:

  • Mail Server Not Responding

I have my own mail server.  When my iPhone is on the local WiFi, it can log in and read mail.  When it is on the 3G connection, it gets the message 'The mail server "intellexcorp.com" is not responding.  Verify that you have entered the correct account info in the Mail settings.'  The setttings are unchanged.  There is no firewall on the server computer.  I can't see why the same settings would have a problem connecting.  No other services, including mail and remote access have a problem accessing this computer by name or by IP.
Please, do _NOT_ suggest that I check my settings.  As I have said the same settings work fine on Wifi.
    Randy Kaempen

Reception is fine.  Already tried a reboot.  This is an ongoing problem over a period of months.  I can't undestand why the 'outside of network' connection can't get to the server while the 'inside the network' can, since there is no firewall and the exact same settings.  The mail server is not showing that it is blocking anything.  Puzzling.
