My MBP doesnt detect Samsung Phone being plugged in ?

I have a friend with 13" MBP with Lion (10.7.5) and a Samsung Galaxy touchscreen phone.
He plugs his phone into a USB socket and his MBP does absolutely nothing !!!, i have made sure that the sidebar in Finder has ALL the boxes ticked for displaying ALL devices in the sidebar.
I have also plugged my iPhone into his LapTop, using the same USB socket and that opens up "Image Capture" straightaway which is what he would like to happen with his Samsung Phone, he simply has some Photos he wants to Download to his Lap Top !.
Although i did notice that my iPhone isnt shown in the Finder Sidebar either ????, but then perhaps my iPhone doesnt show up in Finder on my MBP either LOL BUT It does show up in iTunes though.
I would very much like an answer to my question above, but in the interim period i am going to lend him my Micro SD card Adapter, i have shown him how to remove his Samsung phone Micro SD memory card so he should then be able to see his pictures when plugging my Adaptor into his MBP's SD Card socket !. I HOPE !

Try the following.
1) your mobile should not be connected to your mac first
2) go to phone settings > storage > USB Utilities
3) try clicking the connect usb (at this point the phone would prompt you to connect your usb to the com)
4) Do exactly as it says and VIOLA you phone is connected!!

phone: nokia 5310 express music
PC Suite- version 6.85.14.1 (checked compatible)
cable type- original nokia CA-101 cable
now, i had used pcsuite a couple of times initially and it worked fine, i even transferred a few songs to my phone from the computer. then i was having problems transferring music so i uninstalled and then re-installed pcsuite. since then after installation ( iv tried downloading the latest compatible pcsuite and reinstallin several times) once the get connected wizard starts and i select the connection type (cable) and the "connect cable" screen comes up- even tho my cable is connected (the phone detects it and i select PC suite mode) the computer just doesnt detect the phone or the cable.

hello, my xperia t2 ultra (dual) suddenly started giving bootloop, there after i did a soft reset but nothing happened..i tired todo a hard reset by pressing all three buttons at a same time untill it vibrates 3 times. but instead the phone died now nothing happenes i have connected it to charger its been 30 mins the red led blinks continously. before when i connected to flashtoolfor flashing ftf file the tool gave error cannot flash like this "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors" the phone connects in fastbbot mode showing purple led but doesnt stay in flashmode the green led blinks for a second and goes away flashtool shows device connected in flashmode but while flashing again gives the error "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors" please help me guys what should i do next?

O tried that first solution you gave me and that is: "Connect your phone to wall charger>Press&hold power plus vol up for 10 seconds>ley it charge for 3 hours."But after that nothing happened. I do know that for new MBPs there is a no questions asked return policy if returned within 14 days of purchase. I am not certain if that applies for peripherals. If you have not damaged it, I would think that the odds are on your side if you return it for a refund. Obviously you have a good reason for the return.
Then it may be a good reason to purchase a new MBP. In any event, call the store and ask.

Plug it into power for at least 15 minutes. If it doesn't automatically come on, try a reset... press the home and sleep (on/off) buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Officejef Pro 8600 8610 "Phone cord detected" but no phone cord plugged in

I'm using a new Officejet Pro 8610 All-in-one. I like the machine, but everytime I do just about anything I get an information dialog on the printer screen saying that a phone cord has been detected, and asking if I want to set up its faxing capabilities. There is no phone cord plugged in, however. There is an RJ45 plugged in, but no phone cord. This behavior happens whether or not the plastic piece that came with the printer is in the phone plug or not.
It doesn't keep the printer from working, but it's annoying having to dismiss this dialog all the time.
Anyone have an idea how to stop this?

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a "Phone cord detected " error on the printer.
Just so you know, the clear plastic plug does nothing but keep dirt and debris out of the phone jack outlet.
I suggest that we start off with the basics first and see how that goes.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I also suggest that we check for firmware updates. Please click on the following link to check for firmware.

Try going to settings> general > reset> reset all settings. If that doesn't work. Place a headphone jack in there and just pull it out a couple times. The problem is either your iPad setting is stuck or there is actually a hardware problem and moving the jack in and out might fix it

Did you check sound in system preferences,do they show hdmi.

MBP not detecting external display

I encountered a strange problem today when I tried re-connecting my external monitor: it is not being detected by OS X.
I tried everything I could think of; I selected "detect displays" in preferences, I restarted the computer, I dis- and re-connected everything, I reset the PRAM, I tried connecting to a different monitor, and nothing seems to work. When I disconnect and reconnect the DVI cable, the laptop's screen flashes blue like it normally does, but nothing appears on the external monitor's screen. For the record I'm using the Dell 2209WA, and I haven't had any problems like this yet.
If anybody has any other suggestions as to what I should try doing, please let me know. Thanks!

Hey all, did a software update on my partner's mbp yesterday (10.5.8, security update 2009-006) and had the same thing happen where our external viewsonic display was no longer being detected. Plugging the cable in and out of the mini display port had the same effect already mentioned here where the mbp screen flashed blue like it was about to recognise the external display, but then nothing. Selecting detect displays from display preferences also had no effect. Tried resetting the PRAM and also the PMU, still nothing. So I shut down the mbp; disconnected the mini display cable; then turned off the viewsonic monitor at the power outlet and left it off for 10-20 seconds. Then I turned the viewsonic's power outlet back on, started up the mbp, turned the monitor on and plugged the mini display port cable in and the external display was back and working properly. Have shut down/restarted numerous times since then and it's all still working normally. Not quite sure how/why this busted in the first place, or why turning the viewsonic off at the power outlet seems to have fixed it, but it might be worth a shot for those experiencing similar problems... and it sure beats having to install/reinstall a different os version (which was going to be my next option)!
