My MBP dosen't recognise my password?

Hi, I could do with a little help. The story begins with a Cat, my GF and a glass of Wine. Cat hits wine and wine hits MBP. The Mac shut off instantly, we acted pretty quick and mopped up and turned upside down. I then took back off and over the course of the next 5 days I have stripped it down completely including the Key board and cleaned as best as I could. I've put it all back together and it starts up, a reassuring tone rings out, then apple sign appears with a loading bar beneath, this takes a while then it reaches the Lion log in page.
It still recognizes me, or rather my name as the user but refuses my password which I know is correct.
The keyboard isn't backlit but keys are typing something (can't see characters, just dots).
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I head away with work tomorrow and would be completely lost with out it.??
Screen brightness works.
No back light on keys although this may be normal at this point, not sure.
Unibody mid 2009 I think

Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
    resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

I just upgraded my ipad 2 on apple's advice now can't do the back-up on my now-empty ipad! itunes won't recognise my password! help help

Just for information in case helps anyone else, I have now accessed the back-up, I tried a different password from memory but it is not the normal iTunes password I use - which is what you'd expect them to be after. Now I don't know how to get the app collection back onto the screen, they aren't opening. Wish I never had upgraded...

    Hello, Annie1138.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I have experienced this exact same issue for a Pre-order album as well.  I would recommend canceling the Pre-order and download it again as it most likely has not been charged.  This article will walk you though the process.  You can also check for available downloads to see if the items are pending.

    Hey brainmasala,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like you are not able to connect to a Wi-Fi network with your iPad. This article has a section for Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network and the second article is the recommended network settings. If after these it still has the same issue you may want to restore the device to factory settings.

  • I am upgrading to acrobatproXI but it will not recognise my password. I have been onto the site and verified my password.

I am upgrading to acrobatproXI but it will not recognise my password. I have been onto Adobe.com and verified my password.

    The password to activate Acrobat.
I am not aware of another.
The dialogue box comes up as 'acrobatpro11_dlm wants to make changes. type your password to allow this change' and then the Name which enters automatically is 'APPLE' then it asks for my Password.
I have tried my apple password as well.

  • Adobe doesn't recognise my password to open documents.  I use an iMac.  I have tried changing my password - no effect.

I can't open documents in Adobe because my password is not recognised.  I have changed my password and it still doesn't work.  I use an iMac.  I have downloaded the latest adobe reader which doesn't recognise my password.  Please help.

Ok, that is definitely the answer. This message comes from the Mac and doesn't want a password for the PDFs. And it doesn't want your Adobe ID. It wants the administrator password you chose when you first switched on the Mac.
Or, are you entering the right password, but you get the message again the next time you run Adobe Reader?

  • Can't open APP , ID wont recognise my password and says i bought app on another comp'

I totally agree! I have just managed to downgrade to 5.1.1 again through this link (might get pulled):
    http://techglobex.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/downgrade-from-ios-6-beta-firmware-to.h tml
    What I did was :
    1. Make sure I was on itunes 10..6.3.25
    2. Dowloaded 5.1.1 from the link
    3. Connected my phone to itunes
    4. Held the shift key down and then pressed 'update'
    5. Found the 5.1.1 download and clicked open.
    6. Then let it do its work.
    7. I then had to restore my phone from the back up I made before I upgraded to 6. It offered icloud or computer and I chose computer.
    8. just let it run - it then asked me for a new passcode and then went on to download all my apps/music/photos etc.
I am now back with google maps working as well as youtube. Everything is as it was
Hope this helps but don't blame me if you have problems - maybe I have been lucky.

  • I've just installed Mavericks and now I can't log in to my Mac because it's refusing to recognise my password

My computer is not recognising my password and I can't log in since just installing Mavericks...how can I get into my computer?

Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Then follow the instructions here > OS X: Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password
When you are done, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Hi, I can't email photos from iphoto as the email server doesn't recognise my password / username combination... any ideas how / where i fix this?

Go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the email account there.  Then add it back again.
If that fails you can set Mail at the email client for iPhoto in iPhoto's General preference pane. Mail is more reliable, gives you a sent copy and has better access to your contacts. It also has photo templates if you need them.  They are in the stationary selection menu.

  • TS1541 imac will does not recognise my password or username

My iMac does not recognise my password or username. have installed the Mac OS X disc that came with the computer and put in place a new password and username, this worked for a day and has now shut me out again? I dont want to have to reinstall the OS X disc again. What are my options?

The most common reason for this is caps lock. Check that it has not been activated.
Is it a wired keyboard or wireless?

  • I cloud password different from apple ID? won't recognise my password, so I reset it as want to give my phone to my daughter. Having MAJOR problems!!

I want to give my old iphone4 to my daughter but it won't let me reset anything without my iCloud password. Unfortunately it did not recognise my password and when I requested to reset it I was taken to Apple ID. I changed the password but my email is not an iCloud one so it still won't recognise it or my original i cloud password. Help!! Apple have been no help at all....

Hey! What way did you try to reset your iphone?
The easiest thing (please correct me if i'm wrong now) is:
settings, general, reset -> reset all ("contents and settings")
You just need the unlock-code for this.
What iOS are you running on that phone?
If this doesn't help, please let us know!

  • MAC no longer recognises my password

After having to replace the hard disk and RAM on my G4 iMac, I now find I have a series of software up-dates to install. But, when I'm prompted to enter my password, I'm told my password is not correct (even though MAC recognises my password to log on to my account). I've tried resetting my password -- using both System Preferences and the installation disk -- but this doesn't resolve the problem.
Any ideas of what else I could do or try???

I just had a similar problem to this when I tried to do a clean re-install on my Powerbook with OS X Panther... I would complete registration, choose a password and verify it, but then when it took me to log-in for the first time, it wouldn't work. I re-installed six times, choosing different passwords each time, and even choosing no password once - all to no avail. I was on the phone with Apple Care for 10 hours over two days and finally I got thru - I believe the problem was with the "quickname." I chose my initials for this, and apparently, in the Unix world, this is unacceptable. The last time I created a profile under the "root" administrator log-in, I kept the quickname the OS supplied, and it worked fine.
Try this - it may help.
    Good luck.

  • HT204053 Since upgrade to the latest version of the iPad system, my iPad does not recognise the password for iCloud and won't let me access it to change it

Since the last upgrade on the iPad system, I have not been able to log in with my password to iCloud.  I have changed my Apple ID and password to see if this would help but no it hasn't made any difference and every time I go into my emails the log in screen keeps popping up with the old username and the sign in it won't recognise.  Please could someone tell me in easy steps how to alter this?

Hi Susie. If you don't remember the password to the apple id with which you have logged into icloud then you need to reset the password at iforgot.apple.com. Put in that old apple id and if you have access to that email you can have a link sent to it to reset your password. If you don't have access to it then you can choose to answer security questions. If you can't answer the security questions properly then you need to go to expresslane.apple.com and tollow the prompts for apple id issues/can't answer security questions and if you put in your contact information Apple will call you immediately and you can talk to someone who can help you reset that password.
