It sounds like your file sharing would be easiest accomplished using a network... so you must first set up the network on the PC and then your Mac will flawlessly recognize it and grab the files.
If this is too difficult for you to figure out or do, or if download speeds are too great - I'd use your built in storage if you have an iPod to transfer your files over to the mac... if you don't have an iPod, make a CD or DVD of the content you want to transfer, or use a thumb drive or external hard drive. I also believe there are some firewire components and software that would allow you to directly plug into the PC and gain high speed access to the files, just google search it.
As for the service plan, it pays for itself. Any maintenance on your computer - even just an assessment out of warranty could cost $150 - that's their general labor charge for work. Components are very expensive as well. I'd say protect your investment and get the 3 year warranty. On an old powerbook they replaced $1200 worth of parts in one visit, followed by another $300 and $500 respectively, so in essence, if I had not had warranty coverage, I would have paid the cost of a new powerbook in repairs.
There are certain things I don't pay for extended warranties: iPods, Cameras, other small components, because in reality, their service plans are up to 1/3 the cost, and if I'm having a problem with something 3 years down the road, I'd rather put that 1/3 the cost into the newest technology to replace my faulty merchandise.
As for TV's and Computers, I buy warrantees, because repair parts and service are just otherwise too expensive, and the cost benefit of not having it is just too great to take the chance not having it.
Good luck!

  • 2 day old MBP not running off AC adapter.

My two day old MBP is refusing to tun off of the charger. Yesterday I had no problems with it, But now when I plug in the magsafe the light doesn't come on or anything.
Twice I have switched the power outlet that the charger was plugged into and it worked until I looked at the battery charge level in both Leopard and WinXP. At witch point the charger quit working.
Battery currently at 41% and charger still not working.

Yes... send it in for repair or take it to an Apple retail store or authorized service provider for diagnosis and/or repair.
You have called Apple support by now haven't you?

    - Make sure the mic hole is clear and unobstructed. It is the little hole on the back by the camera lens(if has back camera). For the 16 GB one without the back camera the mic hole is on the top edge near the center.
    - Open the Voice Memos app and see if you see movement on the VU meter needle with changes in noise level trying to be recorded.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • 5 days old MBP C2D - dead HD - what 2 do?

Just purchased a new 2.33 GHz C2D (5 days old) and the hard drive will no longer respond, tried all the tools, can't even re-install the system software.
I'm taking it back to the Aplle store where purchased today. BUT, old dead HD has personal and business confidential info on it. What's Apple policy in physically destroying old hard drives if replaced under warranty?
    Thanks for any advice...

Providing you go to an Apple authorised service centre that does the repairs themselves you should have no problem getting the dead drive back as long as you pay for the new one.
Otherwise, you might want to consider doing the job yourself even though it technically voids warranty. While not a sanctioned suggestion and I would honestly recommend having a service centre do it, it's not a difficult job if you have the right tools and it'll be far cheaper.

  • My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power

My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power it's as if the unit is completely dead. Even with the mains plugged in there is no green or orange light to say its charging or full charged. The battery was fully charged anyway seconds before the screen went off.

When you say no green or orange light are you refering to the little led on the magsafe connector?  That could mean either the charger/cable are bad or the circuitry in the MBP is faulty.  Since this is a brand new MBP best bet is to take it back to an Apple Retail store and have the genius bar staff take a look.  They can determine if it needs to be reparired or replaced.

  • Can I purchase apple care for time capsule that is less than 90 days old?

can I purchase apple care for time capsule that is less than 90 days old?

    Sure enough...
The 90 day period basically applies for telephone support if you don't have Apple Care (a three year apple hardware/apple software coverage that would be similar to an extended warranty for your TV) with the outstanding feature that you have unlimited telephone support for the entire 3 year period beginning when your Mac was first purchased.
Your situation is similar to mine: I bought my MBP this august and just (literally) bought the 2TB TC. So the three year period began when the Mac was purchased and will run out when the MBP reaches it's exact 3 year anniversary. I went 4 or 5 levels above the sales staff and reached an individual at Apple whose exact title is: Sales & Service Management Representive. The first question I asked was is my TC covered under Apple Care and for how long, etc.: as the TC (as well as the MBP) have only a limited1 year warranty without Apple Care.
If you've been following the posts on this exact site and several others, you'll see many upon many TC's experience a premature death around 18-24 months. So IMHO I think Apple Care is a good deal: coverage for your Mac as well as the TC (double coverage).
On a lighter note something like double your pleasure double your fun: Xerox your paycheck!
    cheers...

  • Mavericks started crashing on MBP 15 two days ago

Hi! I have a problem with my MacBookPro. It is from around july 2007 and already had its motherboard swapped for the black screen problem a couple of years ago, but it worked fine until this week. Two days ago it started freezing after a couple of minutes every time I login, something between 2 and 12 minutes, more or less. Needless to say that it is completely useless this way. Recovery mode works, I could verify/Repair the Mac partition, but not much else. I also got a Windows 7 Home installed on the machine, and that one works without problems, so I guess it must have been some bug introduced with one or other software actualization lately. I can't really do anything with the machine on OS X anymore, recently it froze two times while I tried to reset the password for my time capsule so I could access the time machine backup from the recovery mode. It also froze while installing the latest security update from safe mode today. 'Froze' means mouse is dead, keyboard is dead, progress bar stops, no reaction apart from forced power down.
Now, as I am writing this from this same machine under Windows, I wonder what is the best way to get OS X up and running again. Is there a way to download an installation image of the OS for, say, Version 10.9.4 with Windows, burn it to disc and restart from there? I don't really see any download option there. Also - would it be worth trying Yosemite instead of a slightly older Mavericks version?

    Hi!
Here is the report. I have had two more crashes while operating firefox and Preview with Intego software stopped. This last times the machine did not restart, but just kept displaying the frozen display, even when closing the lid, with no reaction from the mouse or the keyboard apart from forced power down working - with nothing in the log files with a timestamp matching or nearing the clock display.

  • 5 days old iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 battery life please help

My phone is 5 days old and i am so fed up with battery life. I disabled all data settings and location services and i have nothing in notification center for any push notification. But still i lost 40% of the battery in half a day with just 5 mins of voice call and 15 mins of texting. Phone was idle the rest of the time and when i used i had brightness at around just 10-15% this is my first iPhone and totally disappointed as i saw battery to last a full day of normal usage in the internet. I am totally fed up with apple. What should i do now ? I am a student and invested an year's savings of mine to get this phone. I am totally fed up. Someone please help me.

You have to tell us what your usage pattern is like, what your reception/signal strength is, and what network type you are using (E/3G/4G/LTE)
To note, the more the screen is on (in long intervals 2+ minutes) the shorter the battery life is.
Streaming music over 3G will last 6 hours if the screen stays off for most of that time.
Email, messages, web browsing will last most of the day.
Since you have GSM, your phone should last 10 hours with light usage.

  • TS4036 My old iPhone got damage and sprint changed it when I try to restore from iCloud I don't have the option to choose the latest back up instead it restored a version that is like 192 days old. How can I see the restore that I want?

    Hello
Today I got my iPhone 4s changed from sprint and when I enter my icloud information it gives me an old backup (196 days old) and I back up automatically all nights , there was no choice to select which one I wanted or anything. So I ended up loosing a lot of important information, all the pictures and everything that I did the past 196 days. I try to see if there is a place on the web that the back up data is displayed but I haven't found anything. I have a lot of important information on icloud, to the extend that I even pay for more space because I use the  iPhone as part of my work. Can someone please explain to me what has happen and if there is a way that I can recover my information? I am desperate it is very important. Thank you very much!
    Fransuas

Once in a while the restore process seems to mess up.  What I don't understand is why you would perform a weekly restore.
At any rate, if you must restore, perform a device reset (settings>general>reset) and then you will have the opportunity to restore from iCloud.  Restore a device whenever it no longer works correctly, not just as a matter of maintenance.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I just bought my daughter a new iPod touch for her bday its not even 4 days old and the screen completely shattered on it. Can this be fixed or do I just have to toss it. I've never bought an I pod or anything before.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

    Or send it to Apple

iWork apps no longer sync with iCloud. I am on iOS 5.1,1, and this problem is several days old, before it was working fine. Anyone has an idea?

Sadly this is not a new problem and I would not expect a forthcoming solution.  I bought an iPad 3G and the iWork suite at the end of August and iCloud syncing worked fine.  About the time Apple rolled out iOS 6 the syncing stopped working for me (without me upgrading or changing anything).  It has never really worked since.   Run iOS 5.1.1 on both the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G.  The "geniuses" claim that Apples iOS 5 requirement is not correct and that I MUST upgrade both to ios 6 (although I know for fact that lots of folks STILL have the iCloud probs even with its 6.  The last genius basically shrugged and non-verbally acknowledged the iCloud/iWork failing and suggested "just use Dropbox.". So why the **** did we pay for iWork!?!?!
Basically the  iwork/iCloud Connnection is broken and I have yet to get a viable solution to repair the issue.  Sorry for the bad news.  For reference I have uninstalled/installed each iteration of iWork upgrades on each device without success.  I have reset all settings multiple times, turned iCloud off/on repeatedly etc etc without success.  I even wiped the iPad and restored from iCloud w/o intention (another Apple IPad "glitch" when I tried the "reset all settings" and the iPad decided to "erase all" instead.  The genius said "it happens.")
Oddly, the Pages app is the only one that has marginally worked at times since the first probs.  However it is basically broken and non-functioning.  Certainly DO NOT trust vital documents to iCloud/iWork.  I lost a number of work critical docs in this whole annoying, messy process of trying to get what Apple promised as easy....

  • HT4623 I recently updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1 and lost all of my contacts.  My phone was less than 30 days old and I did not have an account with iCloud prior to the back-up.  Any way to restore my contacts or are they lost forever?

I have the exact same problem.  I did the update on my iPhone 5 yesterday, opted for the iCloud set up in the update and then it wiped my contacts.  They are not on my phone or in the cloud...

  • 24" iMac drive nightmare - not even a day old

    Well, Im very unlucky!
My old 20" intel mac is going back to Apple because of a faulty DVDR drive.
I thought to my self, Ill buy a 24" iMac and sell my old one once its fixed.
8 hours into using my new iMac 24" after burning 4 or 5 DVDs, the mac fails to finish burning a dvdr at around 90%. First I try the cancel button on Toast but this just hangs forever. I force quit toast then force restart the mac. At this point I was hoping for the dvdr to eject but no such luck.
I now have a dvdr stuck in the drive and no way to eject it! Ive tried all the suggested ways, mouse down at start up, F12, eject, resetting pram, resetting firmware, boot in target drive then eject and nothing works.
In apple profiler the drive (pioneer) doesnt even get detected although I do hear it spin up at boot up.
    ANY IDEAS?

I have managed to get the DVD out! Turned the computer off and got some very small twisers and pulled the DVD out.
Problem is not solved though as my mac will not recognize the drive at all.
I can hear it spinning up but its not responding.
I will call Apple tomorrow and get it exchanged, its only a day old. Hope I don't get any hassle.
So this makes my 3rd faulty iMac in 2 years! not great...
    1 was a faulty motherboard
    2 faulty dvd drives
Is there anything I can try to make the imac recognize the drive?

  • Report showing Critical/Warning alerts in New resolution state 1 day old

Hi,  Has anyone come up with a SQL query that will pull this information correctly - there are a few other posts I've read that mentioned the perculiarity that resolution state isnt updated on original alert and instead 'pairs' of alerts ar created
with one having the new state (0) and the associated one with the closed state(255).  I'm aware the active alerts are stored in OpsDB and then groomed to DataWarehouse, and its a bit of a minefield to know where to pull the various properties from - I've
seem some examples with very complicated joins between the various tables.
I am also wondering where the console gets the 'Age' property of an alert (In Monitoring Pane), is it held in one of the tables Which I can directly reference or is it a calulates field which the console displays/formats as days/hours.
A version of the script I'm hacking away with is as below - it gives me some of the detail but not sure how to get it to display the specific criteria needed (Critical/Warning in state New > 1 day old).  If anyone can supply a working script (for
SCOM 2012R2 it would be greatly received!!)
