My MBP is bringing down network connections

When I connect my MBP either by ethernet cable or wireless I eventually bring down the network. I've connected to different networks with different routers and I always get the same result. After a brief period of time I lose my internet conncetion and I can't even communicate with the router. The router needs to be reset in many cases before it recovers. I have posted this issue before and the response was that it really couldn't be the Mac. However, once I tried connecting to other networks and got the same results I became certain that it is due to my computer. Is there anyway that I could be sending some corrupt packet? Hardware is failing? Is there a way to nuke all network settings and have it start from scratch w/o putting on a fresh install?

I found a solution that seems to work for the linksys WRT54GS v.6 router. Apparently many others have had the same issues with this brand. Under router settings I disabled UPnP and limited the MTU to 1480. Everything seems to work so far, knock on wood.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software slows down Network Connectivity on Win 7 start up

    Hi,
I am new so be gently..lol
I am running windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I recently noticed that on start up my PC was taking between 10 and 20 seconds to set up it's network connectivity, which previously was almost instant. There were no erros within the event logs to suggest why this was occuring. The last thing installed was the blackberry desktop manager. I uninstalled this, and found that my network connectivity was now occuring almost instantly again.
Is this a know issue with this software? I have searched the forum but cannot find anything simliar, only people saying it was slowing down start up as a whole which is not what is happening to me.
Thanks for any help or advice in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, if you have installed the RIM DTM software to auto-start every time you boot your PC, the boot time will increase. Personally, I've found no reason to allow DTM to auto-start...I only launch it when I need it.
To perform a full clean uninstall, see this KB:

  • Laptop bringing down network

I'm running Snow Leopard on my MBP and at least once per day I am unable to access my wireless network on either my computer or my wife's iMac. From time to time I also get a message that another computer on the password protected network is using the same IP address as my MBP. A reset of the Time Warner and Airport Extreme routers (power off and back on) again enables a connection to the wireless network and everything runs quickly and smoothly. The reason I think this might be related to my MBP is that I have just tried using my laptop at the office and when I connected to the wireless network here (Westell router provided by Verizon), my desktop slowed down to a crawl and then froze. Virus of some sort?
    Many thanks.

I bolded a hint in your post. If you are getting this error then a device connected to your network is not configured to get its IP Address via DHCP. (maybe a neighbour is connecting to your router. Is it secured with a strong enough passphrase?). When you connect with your computer it tries to get its IP Address by DHCP but the assigned address is already in use by the other device.
I don't think it is a virus. Eliminate configuration issues first and ensure your router is sufficiently secured.

  • Iphone4 bringing down network

My iphone 4 interferes with my home internet connection/router resulting in the connection dropping with ridiculous latency floods. This seems to be more noticable whenever the iphone goes into standby mode. I have updated the firmware but still the same.
This has been going on since I got the phone and I end up just turning wireless off which doesn't go down to well with the other half, iphone facebook etc.
I really need a solution for this now thanks!

    Lizzi002,
I am having a similar issue with iphones (6.1.3) on my company network.  They are trying to access Itunes ( without its owner being aware)  and flooding my network causing network drops.  I have had success with turning off all notifications, anything that the phone would be automatically updating or syncing without you knowing ( Facebook, apps, etc.. etc...).
I do not believe it is your router.  I am submitting an article link discussing ongoing issues with ios 6 and network problems through 6.1 updates.  Although, our issue is not directly discussed, I believe it may be related.
Hope you find this some what useful.

  • SG200 bringing down network

    Hi All,
    I have a SG500X with a SG200 and SG300 connected via LAG's.
The customer reported today their wireless network went down.
Sure enough after going on site I confirmed the LAP1042's connected to the SG300 were periodically connecting and disconnecting from the CT2504 connected to the SG500X.
Through various troubleshooting I found I also lost connectivity to the management interface of the SG200.
After much head scratching I found if I disconnected one of the SG500X LAG member ports to the SG300, connectivity was restored to the SG200 and all the LAP1042's.
Naturally that would suggest an issue with the SG500X or the SG300.
I confirmed the config on all switches was correct.
No errors in the logs of either the SG500X or SG300, however I did have errors in the SG200 log.
    The following was repeated over and over;
    2146810814   2010-Oct-14 14:01:07 Warning   %CDB-W-CDBOVERFLOW: Overflow in CDB
    2146810815   2010-Oct-14 14:01:07 Warning   %CDB-W-STCDBOVERFLOW: Overflow in startup CDB. offset = 131039, file end = 131040
    2146810816   2010-Oct-14 14:01:06 Warning   %CDB-W-CDBOVERFLOW: Overflow in CDB
No amount of googling has come up with anything on CDB.
Anyone seen this error before or better still have any idea what it means?
    Cheers,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
I like toms answer, i am think along the same line .
You suggested that "I confirmed the config on all switches was correct."  what if by chance the LAG with LACP configuration is incorrect or there is a issue with firmware variations. A couple of things you could try if Toms suggestion doesn't fix the issue.
it could be because of firmware, so make sure the SG200, SG300 and the SG500X are at the currently released version of firmware.
If you upgrade firmware on the switches fixes the problem great but if not, It would be interesting as a next step  to simplify your design by getting rid of the LAG on all machines  and just starting with a single link between switches.  All Vlan interfaces should be trunked by default so no need to change the VLAN interfaces from trunk mode.
lets see if the switch network is stable and the error messages disappear.
    regards Dave

  • Macbook Pro iChat brings down network with Video

So, I have a brand new Macbook Pro and my buddy in Georgia has a brand new Intel iMac and we tried to hook them up via the cameras and iChat, and every time I try to initiate a connection, my DSL connection drops (this is consistent) and the laptop totally locks up.
His end says something like "Cannot get video from the camera" and iChat crashes on him too. This is consistent, happens every time, no matter which end initiates the connection.
    Anyone else had this problem?

    Macbook Pro 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi jama999,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
I have had someone do this to me.
(say that everyone he contacted, he could crash their iChat).
This was before there were Intel Macs.
It turned out to be his router. Everything was fine after he replaced it.
I would start by cycling the power on yours.

  • New logic board and network connection problems

My late 2007 MBP just had a new logic board installed. I have home and work wireless networks that are configured to connect automatically. This always worked flawlessly in the past. My MBP would find the network, connect and all was well. Since I've had the new logic board I'm having issues. The wireless network will be detected but an IP address is not assigned so I can't get on the network or internet. Both my home and work networks were set to assign a specific IP address to my computer. The MAC address detected by the router is correct, at least according to System Preferences.
The only way I can connect is to disable the firewall (Allow all incoming connections). When I do this I connect immediately to the network and everything works as normal. I can even turn the firewall back on and everything will be fine, that is until I leave work and turn the computer on at home. Then I have to go through this again. And then again when I go to work in the morning. I've tried deleting my router profile and resetting from scratch, deleting the network profiles in System Preferences and re-detecting. I don't know what else to try. It's an annoying problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Kevin

I think I have it fixed. One of the solutions I read about had to do with the 10.5.7 upgrade. I have always installed the smaller upgrades, not the larger "combo" upgrades. One tip suggested installing the full combo upgrade because, among other things, it re-creates two specific files that control how the computer interacts with the network. I installed the combo upgrade last Friday and connected without difficulty to the network at my office this morning. If I connect just as easily when I get home tonight I will consider the problem solved.
    Cheers!

  • MBP takes long time to restore wired network connection after wake-up

    Hello...
My Mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) has been experiencing this problem recently -- Whenever I wake up the computer from sleep, it needs approximately 10 seconds to restore its wired network connection. I know there are other annoying connection issues with MBP's WiFi/AirPort out there, but I'm talking about the wired connection here.
Maybe some don't even think this slowness is a problem at all, but this laptop used to be network-ready right after wake-up until 3~4 months ago. That was around the time when I upgraded to SSD and changed some settings via pmset, not sure if that's the culprit. It is now running OS X 10.8.5 and its pmset settings are:
    Battery Power:

Maybe try this, i am not sure that it will resolve the problem, but it is worth trying anyways.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/eef49e64-157c-4082-8e80-52e48309691f
    Hi All,
I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition.  The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd
party applications.  Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem.  I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues
    with network adapters.
The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service.  The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah".  Here's how to disable this service
    in Windows 7:
Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage'
Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services'
Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above
Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties'
Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service
Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list
    Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved.  If so, you should have internet connectivity again.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Aaron

Power management is already disabled, you can see that from the output of "iwconfig wlp2s0". It was the first thing I tried. I also tried turning off wireless N which was suggested in the wiki and that did not help either, so I caved and posted to the forums.

  • Network outage don't bring down layer3 isdn

    Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if someone ran through this case over the years...
    Scenario :
2 routers in mgcp with 1 T1 on each.  The DMS switch cascade the calls to the second T1 if the first one fail.
In a case you lose network connectivity on the first router, thus having the mgcp in a down state the calls should go to the second T1 but having mgcp down doesn't bring down the layer3 on the isdn link... I still ses the isdn status as MULTIFRAME ESTABLISHED...
I tried the busyout command but this only put channels in a busy state ... the first T1 still receive the incomming calls thus not cascading...
Anyone have an idea of what I could do to make the isdn link go down when the mgcp go dwon as well ?

    Look into busy-out monitor feature:

  • Does adding 100Mbps Switch bring down the speed of a 1000Mbps network?

I have a wired Airport Extreme network where a 1000Mbps Ethernet switch in one room adds connections to other peripherals.
Now I want to add a switch in a different room for wired connections that are now operating wirelessly. And I have available a 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch. If I add that to the network do I bring down the speed of the entire thing? I realize that the connections directly from that 2nd switch can only be 100Mbps.
But will I affect the speed of the other connections?
    Thanks in advance.

And I have available a 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch. If I add that to the network do I bring down the speed of the entire thing?
    No
I realize that the connections directly from that 2nd switch can only be 100Mbps.
    Correct

  • My itunes account shuts down for no reason.  It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and itunes.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a syste restore on my computer, firewall checked and virus scan done.  Ideas??

My itunes account on windows xp shuts down for no reason.  If even try to delete something from my library it shuts down.   It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and I can't connect to the store.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a system restore on my computer, firewall has been checked, itunes is ok on firewall and virus scan done.  Ideas??

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • Office Word 2008 crashes when trying to open a local stored document ONLY if network connection is down

Sorry to bother you all but I have a situation I can't find a solution for:
on a MBP 2009, running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and MS Office 2008 (up to date), if I open a local stored document AND the unit is connected to the network everything works fine.
As soon as I switch off the network connection and I open a local stored document Word freezes and within "Force quit..." I can see that Word is no longer responding. A few minutes later OS X quits Word and that's it.
I already checked Safe boot, removing the Microsoft plist's and reinstalling MS Office 2008 including all available updates but the situation is still the same.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Robert

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • IMac no longer connecting @ 270 mbps on 5GHz n Network in wide mode....

    Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can shed some light on this.
I have a wrt610n dual band n router. Up until a few weeks ago all my n enabled devices were connecting at speeds of upto 300 mbps (except the iMac which would only ever reach 270 mbps).
Now the iMac will only connect at 130 mbps max. Both network utility and alt clicking on the wireless icon in the menu bar read a rock solid 130 mbps, whereas a few weeks back it was a rock solid 270 mbps.
I have been through all the usual rigmarole of checking settings on the router, re-flashing, deleteing all existance of wireless networks on the iMac etc.
No matter what the iMac will still only get 130. I can put my 2 laptops next the iMac and they will both hold rock solid speeds, in excess of 200 mbps for the HP and 300 (yes 300) mbps for the MBP.
I know for a fact my router hardware is set to wide (40 MHz), and that it is the 5GHz band I am connecting to. I am using WPA2 Personal AES for security. I have been through fiddling with the Beacon Interval, RTS and Fragmentation Thresholds as suggested in other posts around the net, even forcing the mcs to 15:270 mbps etc etc, all with no avail.
Before anyone starts, it's nothing to do with the country I am in, or inflated speed quotes by manufacturers, 300 mbps is realised for me so be sure I am not dreaming of theoretical maximums.
This network throughput was excellent, capable of streaming full 1080p HD to the Xbox whilst numerous other transfers are taking place, now this glory is no more.
Basically it was connecting at 270 mbps in this location with the self same settings, and now it is not. So far as I can remember nothing has changed drivers wise on the iMac...
In case it is of help I have grabbed this from system profiler.

  • Losing network connection when I close my MBP

Since I raised my network security mode to WPA2_Personal on my Linksys wrt160n router I have had to log in to my MBP network connection with my password each time I open the MBP. How can I lock in the settings so I don't have to log in each time?

The sleep function on all MacBooks and PowerBooks is activated by a little magnet in the lid. If the said magnet is mis-aligned then it could cause the system not to sleep properly, similarly if the magnetic switch on the base of the unit is mis-placed, it too could cause the machine to malfunction. End users can't really fix this problem, if indeed it's the cause, but a Apple service centre can, maybe your mac needs a spot of tweaking?
