My MBP now completely freezes randomly. What troubleshooting steps should I take?

Well since 2 days, my MBP 2009 which was working AMAZINGLY well until then, completely freezes randomly.
The mouse just stops moving and it's the end. I can only turn it off.
I didn't install any new software since this is happening.
I checked the drive and repaired permissions with Disk Utility.
I scanned it with ClamXav. I unplugged all connected devices.
My system is 10.6.8.
The only thing I did, was resetting the SMC two days ago (because it didn't find my iSight anymore - that worked).
What other steps should I take now to try to narrow down where the problem is coming from?

if you boot into Safe mode and run your typical set of apps there, does it still freeze up randomly?

Perhaps, but it may not be the place to get answers to this question. Try a PowerPoint Mac user forum, they would have more experience in these x-platform issues. This forum is oriented more towards the hardware side of the MBP platform. -
I have a 2 yr old Iphone 4 and have not backed up or connected to Itunes up for 1 yr. I have new Windows 7 computer and want to connect and copy Itunes backed up folder from external HD (a year ago) to new computer and install new Itunes and new IOS. What steps should I take and what precautions? I don't want to lose any data on my phone such as music, photos, contacts, notes, texts etc, nor lose music from prior backed up Itune folder. I tried following the steps in this article. When I attempt to delete iTunes, it says “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again? Neither iTunes nor iPhoto recognize my phone any longer.
iTunes can't be deleted because it comes with OS X. In order to delete it, open Terminal and copy:
sudo rm /Applications/iTunes.app

When computer is first turned on, and after Firefox is launched, the screen freezes. It continues to remain unresponsive to any mouse clicks or keyboard actions. After 10 to 20 minutes error message pops up:

followed by 2 choices (buttons): wait for script to finish running or stop the script.
This is an enormous waste of time and highly frustrating.
If you answer this question or provide a solution, kindly do not use technical or vague terms like "check if there's a problem with the hardware accelerator or with add-on or extensions". That's too general and I can't follow up. It's a bit like saying "go cook a meal". Instead, I'd appreciate if you give precise instructions, steps 1, step 2, step 3 and so on. Thank you.

the Service Battery Message has been appearing after i upgraded to OS x Lion from Snow Leopard. Tried reinstalling the previous OS but could not fix the problem.

My DVD-ROM drive does not work -- what steps should I take?
MacBook Pro, a couple of years old. Was used by an employee for 2 years, now have it at home and found that the DVD-ROM drive does nothing when I insert a disc.
What I really would like to know is what are the first steps with this. I don't want to send the machine somewhere. Should I just get a cheap external? Could it be software?If by Does nothing you mean it doesn't even pull in the disk. That sound slike hardware not software.
I imagine it is out of warranty? If it is covered take it to be repaired in a mac store. If not I personally would opt for an external as the cost would be much more appealing. But doesn't hurt to inquire about the cost for having a new internal, or even fixing your current one.
But for my money I would opt for external. -

There is also installations Instructions document. Use it for right installations order.
So what you must do is to obtain Microsoft Vista installations DVD.

I made an iMovie, 6.0.3 using music from iTunes and photos from the Internet. It looked fine on iMovie, but when I uploaded it to youtube, some of the photo near the beginning were corrupted on youtube. I tried a different photo, and the corruption took place at the same moment of the video. How do I prepare the video for export to get it ready for youtube? I wasn't sure whether to clik web or web streaming. Am I supposed to clik Quick Time after I clik Share?
I unfortunately cannot remember where I got the 'trrndlines' plugin... I assume that it must have been from CFX (as it is located under /Users/Dom/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins/cfx/XXXtrrndlines.bundle).
As for what it does, I also do not know, as I do not think I ever used it in my previous video projects.
At this stage, I think I just need to uninstall it so that iMovie doesnt try to use it.
Do you know how to uninstall a CFX plugin in iMovie?
NOTE: I have re-installed iMovie 6.0.4 (instead of iMovie 6.0.3), but still encounter the same issue. -

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
