My MBP Retina June 2012 - fan sound gets really loud using skype

Hi, i understand that it switches GPU when using high demanding applications.
Using Skype would cause my computer fan to be so noisy that it disrupts skype sessions.
But this has never happened in the previous macbookpros i have used before.
someone help please!

A disabled GPU will result in no screen image, so it can not be disabled.
I cannot give you exact temperatures for Skype because of too many variables.  Case in point, my MBP at this time shows a CPU temperature of 27 c as I write this,  That is a reflection of the cool ambient temperature at the present time.  Normally it operates in the 40c to 50c range with similar applications open.
Skype will often generate CPU temperature of 80c or more.  If it starts getting close top 100c or more, then that is approaching the thermal shut down point of approximately 105c.  I would avoid operating the MBP for prolonged periods of 95c or more.
Ciao.

  • My sound gets really loud then soft - what do I do to fix this?

My sound when playing music or videos on all systems (itunes, youtube, internet) fluctuates while the sound is in play. It will be really soft then suddenly change to very loud wihtout me changing any sound - back and forth constantly. I have speakers plugged into my laptop but it also happens when its just the normal speakers in the computer. I havent changed any settings for sound. What do I do?

  • The fan gets really loud sometimes

I just bought my Mac a couple weeks ago, not more than a month ago, and I haven't really downloaded a lot onto my computer. But sometimes the fan comes on really loudly, like it's having a hard time cooling the computer. Granted this happens usually when I'm on a site or using a program that is graphic intensive, but it only started doing this sometime this week. Could there be something wrong with the computer?

Your MacBook is behaving as it should. The fan will come on when the CPU is working overtime.
You can run Activity Monitor in the background and see what processes are consuming CPU cycles when the fans come on.
It is Abode Flash more often than not on a website that gets the CPU working hard and the fans going.

  • I just purchased my Macbook Pro retina display OS X 10.7.4 in June 2012. Shortly after I began using it, it began randomly restarting itself while in use. Why and how do I fix this?

So as I said in the title, I purchased my new Macbook Pro retina display OS X 10.7.4 in June 2012 and recieved in early July. Shortly after I started using the laptop, it began randomly restarting itself. It does this about once a week while I am just using the laptop for normal internet browsing. I haven't downloaded any outside software that the system could be rejecting and it is fully charged. Any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix it?
Also this is a total random question, but there is a residue on my laptop that is faint but randomly shows up. I'm almost positive that it is nothing on my hands or where I place the laptop. I wasn't sure if it was something possibly coming from the side vents. Thanks for the help!

Exactly what Shootist007 states - take it in for service or replacement - could be a simple software issue or it could be a hardware issue...
Don't even bother messing with it.....Might screw up even more.....
Make sure your files are backed up in case they give you a replacement....
Good luck - hope you get it sorted out...

  • Pressing the bottom of new MBP retina makes crunching/clicking sound

When i gently press the bottom of my mbp retina i can hear crunching and clicking sounds on one of the bottom sides (right side if the notebook is upside down). The other side of the bottom doesn't squeak at all. Have you guys faced this problem? Do they replace notebooks with assembly issues?

It's covered by a 1 year warranty, you can make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at. Sounds at best are hard to troubleshoot. If you suspect the HD please check out the Failing hard drive sounds link.

  • Guys, I have a MBP Retina end 2012 and I run BF3 on it. The problem is that my FPS in LOW quality is 28 average! WTH is going on?

Ok. As I said, my MBP Retina in running BF3 really poorly. I tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset, but doing it EVERY time I want to play does not solve the problem. In many cases it still shows 19 - 28 FPS performance even after the resets.
I really want to know what Apple says about this!
My MBP has 16GB RAM and I am running the game trought the SSD via BOOT CAMP.
Obviously the hadware is strong enought. I even saw some tests on youtube where in high settings the same MBP made 50 FPS average!
    Any miracles?
Thanks everyone in advance for any help given.
PS. Apple, if you want, you can pronounce yourself about it!
    Dan

    First of all. Thank you!
And about Windows, I am following the same procedures as the test I saw on youtube. Original BOOTCAMP drivers.
I'm not really sure if the Windows OS cloud affect it so badly! I mean, the only thing I have there are my games: BF3 and small steam games. Nothing really heavy.
I installed that only for gaming, not even office programs.
Do you belive that my windows version cloud cause this? (even using the same as tested)

  • Graphic glitches MBP retina Late 2012 (HDMI/games)

Hi To everyone!!! First of all, I am new user so I would like to salute all members of the forum. I am looking forward to be part of this community!!
I am new here so I will try to be as clear as I possibly can. My apologies if I not very good explaining these problems. I have experience two issues lately with my graphic cards. I think that they are becoming more often.
First, when I connect my MBP retina to the TV using the HDMI cable to watch something, the connection is lost briefly (1-2 sec), the TV goes black and then it reconnects again by itself. The TV shows the resolution  (samsung TV) and everything goes back to normal. This happens after 3-7min after I connected the MBP. I have tried disabling the sleep mode of the computer (I thought the computer could be trying to suspend itself) but it didn't fix it. Any ideas of what may be causing this????
Second, when I open a game or when I connect to the TV the screen goes off!!! What I mean is that the display shows "static" (I mean like when the analog TVs use to show a black and white fuzz when no signal was detected.) Sometimes it fixes itself and sometimes I need to reboot. Any ideas?????
    Thank you very much!!!
    Best wishes,
    Tony

  • HT201177 How to connect my MBP 13" (Mid-2012) to a projector/LED TV using a mini-display port VGA adapter (CAPDASE)

Hello Sirs, I'm having a hard time connecting my MBP 13" (mid-2012) to my projector using my mini-display-VGA out adapter. But when I switch to Windows 7 (via bootcamp), it can easily be connected... Please help me with this problem. Thanks

Try connecting the Minidvi to the VGA and connect it all together, first try turning ing on the MBP, then connecting dvi to the the projector. Make sure your projector input is set for VGA. If noo joy invert the affored mentioned proceedure. You should see your image if not, try going to system preferences>displays, click display.   Try readjusting the resolutions in display. reboot monitor.

  • New Mac Air's FaceTime HD webcam gets stuck when using Skype

    Hi all,
I just bought new MacBook Air. I have a problem when I want to video chat with my friends or family on Skype using my FaceTime HD webcam. It gets stuck on a loop after a minute. If I reload it it works for a minute and then it happens again.
I am not using any other programs at the same time when using Skype such as iPhoto or Photo Booth.
I do not know if it is a software or hardware problem. Have anyone experienced the same or anyone knows how to fix it?
    Cheers,
    Kip

Hi Kip - I have been experiencing the same thing here.
Latest model Macbook Air 13", OSX 10.8.3, Skype 6.3.0.602
It works for the first time for a few minutes, then it will either freeze or do a continuous half second loop. turning video off then on will work for a minute or two, then it will go into the loop again.
I have searched the skype forums and found all sorts of weird suggestions to uninstall, re-install certain versions, delete stuff out off application folders etc, but nothing to reliably fix the issue.
heres the main thread: http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Video-Calls-Glitching-Since-Mac-OS-X-10-8-3-an d-Skype-6-3/td-p/1492372/page/2
heres the thread they think and older version of skype works for some people:

It looks to definately be a skype issue from the forums there, and its just a wait now till Skype can sort it out unfortunately.

  • My fan is running really loud, low cpu (i think?)

My fan has been running really loudly for a day now. I have tried turning it off and on again, putting it to sleep, cleaning out the dust.
On my activity monitor "opendirectoryd" is running at 94.5 percent and I have no idea what that is and if it is causing the problem?
I have looked at answers on other forums for the same thing but none of the remedies have seemed to work. Can any one help please?
I also put in some code that was on a different forum into 'terminal' but have no idea what the results mean. I have copied it below:

    Hi..
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
As a rule it is not a good idea to run Terminal commands unless you have a better understanding of what the results should be.

  • MBP Retina, Mid 2012 slo/no wake up

    OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), 2.6/Retina/APPLE SSD SM512E
This machine has gone from slow to no wakeup after sleep.
Now even have problem getting it to restart.
    Please advise.
    Congodog

It sounds like you have a warranty issue.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • MBP retina 15" 2012 model Thunderbolt connector loose

I am not sure if anyone noticed. My MBP 15" retina 2012 model thunderbolt connector is kind of loose. It's hard to describe the feeling but if I connect ethernet connector while my computer on my lap, connector will be unplugged if I move a little. Not only this, I am unable to move my MBP a little if I have my 27" apple display connect to it. I never have this kind of problem with my old 17" MBP.
I took it back to apple store and had the connector board replaced. It plays just a little better but still having the same issue. I kind of tested 2 MBP in the store all happen the same. I was told there is nothing they can do about it in apple store. I wonder if anyone has the same problem.
    thanks
    Wesley

Congrats on finding a solution to your problem, but I doubt this will work for most of those here. I've reset NVRAM (PRAM is for older, PowerPC Macs) a few times for other issues since I first noticed my Thunderbolt port losing connectivity if jiggled, and that problem has remained consistent.
Just yesterday I reset NVRAM to help diagnose an issue with my screen, and can verify that the port that has been a problem still loses connectivity with my Apple Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, Apple DVI Adapter, and Apple Dual-link DVI Adapter.
Therefore, for myself and most here, this is not a software issue. Anyways, a software problem wouldn't explain something that occurrs when a cord is jiggled. Unless there's some sensor that is reporting to the machine that the signal should be cut even though a connection could be maintained, which wouldn't make any sense.
Good to know that some, however, might find some level of solution by resetting NVRAM

  • Verbatim 3.0 USB not recognized bz MBP (mid June 2012)

Hi I am new to Apple and have just received my MBP 13' with SSD upgrade. I have also bought a brand new 64GB Verbatim 3.0USB stick.
This stick does not get recognized by the system and I can't seem to fix the problem. Other sticks work well.
There are a lot of common problems described on the internet, but they don't seem to help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lars

What are the system requirements for that model hard drive?  The few 1T's that I saw on Toshiba's website were only compatible with Windows.  None make no mention of Macs.
