My MBP shuts down unexpectedly
My MBP (Mid 2012, HD Graphics 4000 1024MB, Software 10.9.5) turns off randomly. It has nothing to do with the battery. It turned off twice during a movie and shut down and a apple message appeared before starting up again. Any ideas?
Your MBP may have had kernel panics:

MBP shuts down unexpectedly when on battery
Today my MBP shuts down unexpectedly when on battery. It started at about 50%. I seems to happen if I don't a thing for a short while when I read something or so. I most of the time when using mu MBP have it on the net cord but today I wanted to work the battery.
Does anyone know what it could be? I have searched in the forum but the answers hasn't been satisfying. I find it weird that I have to use the keyboard or the track pad to keep going. Not sure what the cause is but you can try resetting the SMC.

MBP shutting down unexpectedly even though battery meter still has charge
Hi,
just in this last week, my MBP has been shutting itself down very suddenly when on battery power when there's still charge left.
At first there was about 25% charge left. Over the next few days, that went up progressively till today it is now shutting itself down with more than 50% charge left.
Has anyone had issues such as this? and what should i do to rectify it?
I'm going to try recalibrating the battery.
I don't usually use the MBP with the power connected
I try where I can to charge and then disconnect and use till power is low.I was having same problem: meter shows plenty of charge left, yet MBP shuts down. When I decided to take a look at my battery (also with recall in mind) was horrified to find it swollen and warped so badly -- pushing out of its casing. Could barely get it out and then back in. That I'm getting any charge at all amazes me considering how badly the battery is misshapen.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm beginning to think Apple's not being quite up-front about the seriousness of the problem: Yes, MBP gets hot, yet no more than my old PowerBook and iBooks.
But, had we been given batteries which are perhaps really unsafe, not to mention causing lost work time and maybe systemic difficulties?

MacBook Pro (W8638) shuts down unexpectedly in both Safari & Firefox
My 2006 MBP has worked well. The machine model is MacBookPro 1,2; 2.16GHz, Family name: A1151, screen size 17 inch, Memory DDR2-S-667 running OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
Two weeks ago it started shutting down unexpectedly. In three of the first four unexpected shutdowns I had 8-10 windows open. In three unexpected shutdowns since then I had 4-7 windows open. Most times in Safari, a couple of times when running Firefox concurrently or Firefox separately.
I've read several posts about possible battery problems. I'm on my third battery since late 2006 - which seems very fair given the amount of usage. The current battery appears to be working fine: "Charge Remaining" is 596, "Fully Charged," yes' "Capacity" 596; "Cycle Count" 211; "Voltage" 12488. "AC Charger" info: ID 0X0100, wattage 85. (As an aside, I'm on my fourth charger. Each failure was a due to a break in the plastic housing where the power cord connects.
It is important to note that the battery, on each of the shutdowns, was 75% - 100% full.
As recommended from several responsders within the Apple Support Community, I downloaded MBP SMC Firmware Update 1.5 and, I think, uploaded it to my hard drive. I say "I think" because the downloaded folder had nine icons. The one I clicked on did in fact upload to my MBP successfully - or so I thought. I've had several unexpected shutdowns since then (4) so I may have down the upload incorrectly or there may be something else wrong with the MBP. Don't know if this is helpful: I just checked "Applications" and the only firmware update I could find is under "Utilities" and it shows "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app" installed November 14, 2006. I've re-downloaded SMC Firmware Update 1.5 if that's an appropriate solution and will install 1.5 if someone would kindly advise on which of the nine icons to install.
Many thanks, BretKappy, thanks for your help. I decided not to install MBP Firmware update 1.5 because it appears to be a fan fix for newer MBPs than my 2006.
My takeaway from your recommendation is that I shouldn't open as many windows as I have done in the past. I searched Activity Monitor and read the Support docs explanations. Also checked Console Logs (in Library/Crash Reporter) but I have no idea how to interpret on how to use that data. So I'll stick with the "fewer open windows is better" approach.

Brand new MBP 13 has shut down unexpectedly at least 6 times since I unboxed it last night. It seems to be while handling the MBP with my right hand as if to hand it to a person or move it. Several times while downloading software. And always on battery. Of course I have not moved it much while plugged in.
Is this crazy or has this happened to others out there?
Thanks for any help!!!Hi Scott,
As firm as these machines might seem, they "flex" when handled with one hand by the edge of the MBP. The clearances are so tight inside the case, that even this seemingly insignificant flex can cause internal parts to come in contact with other parts that they are not supposed to. Always handle the machine with two hands and see if the "issue" stops showing itself. -
I have a Toshiba Laptop Model Number P305D-S8834. It shuts down unexpectedly. Powers off. No screen display, no blue screen. It simply shuts itself down without warning.
So far I have booted in setup using F2 and just let it run at the setup screen. Within 15 minutes. It simply shuts down.
Booting into Safemode with command prompt it also shuts down.
If I can get Windows 7 to load and leave the computer at the login screen it shuts down.
I've checked the system logs and the system hasn't been writing errors to the log when this happens.
I'm suspecting an overheating issue. Any tools or diags, instructions how to clean fan motors or check system temperatures on this model?
ThanksThis is most likely a hardware problem. What apparently happens is that your MBP stop recognizing the battery and the energy cord, since this happens when you are moving it, most probably is a short circuit or a moved cable (sorry for my english). Try taking it to an Apple Store for checking, since we can't help you with hardware issues over here

I'm encountering a very frustrating problem. The program shuts down unexpectedly while I'm working in zoom (100-150%)resulting in going back to recreate what I didn't save while working. I've been trying to remember to save more frequently so I won't lose anything. This was a problem when I first purchased CS2 and updated with the patch 12.0.1. Didn't have any shutdowns afterwards, but am now encountering it again. Does anyone have this problem and have any suggestions/solutions? I'm using WinsXP.

MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly.
I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core duo running Snow leopard 10.6.8 that shut down unexpectedly on battery power. What can I do to fix this problem?. I hardly use the battery and I had it replaced not too long a go. Any thoughts please. What can I do to fix this serious problem?.
Carlos,
Your machine can shut down for any number of reasons, some normal. We have determine between "unexpected but normal" and "unexpected but problematical.
If your MBP's battery hits 0%, the HD will shut down automatically; simply plug in your MagSafe adapter to restore the charge. In other cases, Energy Saver may shut down your machine if it's not being used for a certain amount of time; check your Energy Saver preferences to set the times.
Some problems are more problematical. The Power Supply regulates power to your MBP, and you may notice unexpected drops in power if it's damaged.
In short, you may want to visit your local, friendly Apple Store if you notice this incidents. But before doing so, be disciplined in your research, and note when the shut downs occur, and under what conditions. If you can, also log the amount of power remaining in your battery when the problem happened. That way, the Apple staff will be able to read the statistics and figure out the problem more easily. -
15" Macbook Pro shuts down unexpectedly
Recently, my MBP has been shutting down unexpectedly and then the front light will flash 3 times.
I have been searching for any insight but have not found the right answer.
The MBP is running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 DuoMay be the RAM is not seated properly.
If that is not the case, take it to the Apple Store for evaluation and repair.

Mac Shuts Down Unexpectedly in Logic Pro
I sure hope someone can help me with this. For the last few months my Mac Pro starting shutting down unexpectedly typically when running Logic but not limited to Logic. I have updated everything that I can find. I have taken the computer in the store for support twice where they said that after testing there was no issue with the power supply or the logic board and determined that the hardware was okay. The only thing he could tell me is that he thought that it might have to do with all of the dongles on my usb hub. Before the hub was being powered by the Mac so I got a new hub that is now self powered. I thought that it might have to do with the fact that I run Logic through a Digi 002 which I know a lot of people have had stability issues with. Yesterday I also updated my Ilok and Eliscencers and it seemed to work. Today after a solid day of no crashes it was back to the same old stuff. Out of nowhere while Logic is running the audio signal abruptly stops but not to silence it holds a buzzing sound of the last audio that was processed. Then a grey screen comes down and gives me the notice that I need to restart my computer. Upon powering back up this is the notice that came up Interval Since Last Panic Report: 82145 sec Panics Since Last Report: 6 Anonymous UUID: 3A1A42A4-6B76-4D5A-AE56-435F88E32ACF Thu Aug 9 17:31:55 Mine has done this at least 3 times already. The laptop isn't connected to a power source, but it says there is still about 30% battery remaining. It has happened before with 50% and even 60%. It's not that it falls asleep, I would be in the middle of doing something and it just shuts off. I don't think it's overheating... It's a little warm, but the fan isn't 'working hard' or anything. It's not happening consistently, but it's happened enough times that it has made me concerned. Here's my battery info:

According to the stats... it doesn't really look like a battery problem. I really hope the warranty would cover a battery replacement though, if that's what it requires -
MacBook Pro 15" (Mid-2010) keeps shutting down unexpectedly
For quiet a while now - at least 3-4 months - my MacBook has been shutting down unexpectedly. It mostly happens when it is in sleep mode and I open the lid to use it again. In other case though, it also happened while I was trying to make a phone call or switching to the dashboard. Sometimes it reboots right away, other time I have to press the spacebar. While rebooting it also sometimes crashes on the Apple logo and reboots right after. The Apple logo boot screen also has had the progress bar below it for a while now. I'm on the newest version of Yosemite.
Oh and sometimes it's fine for a few days or even weeks. Sometimes it only crashes once and not again for days or weeks, other times - like today, it keeps crashing constantly. I also regularly stream movies and shows without crashes. Like I said, it's mostly right after opening the lid.
Yesterday it got really loud while opening the lid, although it didn't shut down. That made me think there might be a problem with the fans, so I cleaned them - they were pretty dusty. For a second I thought that fixed the issue, because there was no noise anymore. Moments after it rebooted by itself again, though. Unfortantely it crashed during rebooting too, so I don't have a crash report right now. The next time I get one I'll post it right away.
About 1,5 years ago I replaced my harddrive with an SSD, about 3 years ago I upgraded my RAM.
Here are some more specs:
2.66 GHz i7
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA Gefore GT 330M 512 MB
While writing this my MacBook crashed again, here's the crash report:

com.apple.kec.pthread 1You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by a recall program that has now ended.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present.
You may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If you don't want to pay for the repair, you may (or may not) be able to work around the problem by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version. -
Anyone have a MacPro shutting down unexpectedly- Poof! Swapped Ram and zapped PRam and disconnected non Apple perriferals - ie No more Wacom Intuos4, old Clear USB Apple keyboard removed (now new aluminum), fixed permissions. Was only in photoshop but now it happens anywhere including Apple System Profiler
OS, RAM, and free space look fine.
If it is powering off with no warning:
Have you blown the dust out of the inside of the case and out of the graphics card fan?
Do all the fans seem to be spinning? ( You can remove the side door while it is running.)
Have you run Apple hardware test (off the original DVD) to make sure the fans think they are spinning and the sensors think they are accurate? -
My Mac Pro is doing some weird things on random time frames, for example:
-For 4-6 months it works perfectly, I mean it never shuts down unexpectedly and it goes to sleep mode without a problem but after that it goes back to this weird phase and after 2-3 days back to normal.
In the last 3 years I have replaced the following components:
Graphic Card (from Nvidia GeForce 8800GT to ATI Radeon HD 5770)
Memory (From 10 GB to 32 GB)
2x New Riser Cards
New Power Supply
New HDD
Logic Board Battery
With all these replacements I still have this issue, do you think the Logic Board is causing that?
Please advice !!!Boot Mode: Normal

Mac Pro 3,1 Shuts Down Unexpectedly
My computer lately shuts down unexpectedly. It's not an overheat problem.
When I use skype, as soon as the video conversation starts, it shuts down.
When I try to resize a photo on Photoshop CS5, it shuts down. (I modified an OpenGL option, and I don't have this problem any more)
When I click with my mouse for the dashboard to come, it shuts down.
Could you please help me with this? I don't know what to do.
Thank you.I mean it powers off completely. No error message. Just the power goes off as if I shut it down myself with the normal procedure.
New development: I have two graphic cards: ATI Radeon 2600 and NVIDIA 8800.
With the NVIDIA I get shut downs when I view the dashboard, almost each time.
With the ATI I get shut downs sporadically. After one shut down, when I pressed the button to start the computer, it got to the phase when showing the white page with the Apple Logo, and it powered off. I waited 5-6 minutes and it is now running without any shut downs.
I believe it has something to do with the drivers. But I'm not sure. What steps should I follow to eliminate some aspects? What's your theory?
Thank you for your time.
