My menu bar dissapears
Hi all.
I am writing a GUI interface to diplay images in an Jpanel.
Now this may seem stupid but when I load my GUI, my menu bar with MenuItems dissapears however can still see the panel the menubar is enclosed in. I have the following code segments
public class myappGUI extends JFrame implements ActionListener
Image original = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("pic.jpg");
JPanel imageCanvas = new JPanel();
public appGUI()
Container contentPane = getContentPane();
...... /* setting up menubar stuff using JMenuBar and adding
JMenu Items to it*/
...... /* add window listeners and action listeners */
contentPane.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
menubar.add(fileMenu);
menubar.add(settingsMenu);
menubar.add(helpMenu);
contentPane.add(menubar,BorderLayout.NORTH);
contentPane.add(imageCanvas, BorderLayout.CENTER);
imageCanvas.setBackground(Color.white);
} // end appGUI
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent menuEvent)
getting menu actions and doing stuff with them
public void paint(Graphics g)
g.drawImage(original,200,200,imageCanvas);
} // end myappGUI
Now when I execute this app a window comes up with the menubar greyed out, The panel is there as I've set the color to red (not in segment of above code)and no Image. When I minimise the window and then maximise it, the image now appears but everything has now dissapeared. Just get image and grey background.I know with all this GUI stuff that everything gets layered, obviously I'm getting confused with the basic concepts.
So the question is what do I need to do so that when I execute this app all my components such as menu bar and panel appear intact with the image displayed in the panel. I've tried adding a desktopPane to the ContentPane and added an internal frame to the desktopPane ( I know its a bit confusing) which contains a panel and tried to draw the image there. However I still get the same result (slightly different but same in essence).
Any Advice wouldbe greatly appreciated
Cheers Dennis
Hi Denis.
Cool name : ) -> anyway thanks for your input. I actually tried the setJMenuBar(menubar) and stil got the same out put. But I think I have figured it out by creating another class and extending Jpanel and doing the painting from within.
Cheers anyway Dennis
>
>
contentPane.add(menubar,BorderLayout.NORTH);instead of this use setJMenuBar(menubar)
public void paint(Graphics g)
g.drawImage(original,200,200,imageCanvas);Do not paint anything on JFrame, paint on canvas or
use JLabel with image so it paints everything
automatically. See SwingSet2 demo sources for
examples.

ITunes 10 top menu bar dissapeared
Hi all,
I recently tried out a few apps to delete duplicates in iTunes - iDupe and Dupin. I wasn't really happy with either, so I removed both apps. Now, when I click on the iTunes Library -> Music view, I get all my music in a list, but the right hand top menu bar has disappeared. Then when I scroll down the list, the music list scrolls through the top part of the window where the menu bar with search, view options and info window should be. The left hand top menu bar with volume, play, etc. is still there. This is only in the music view, all other views work normally.
I tried reinstalling iTunes 10, but the problem remains.
Any ideas how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Update:
I tried this suggestion to place the 3 window optimizing buttons back on the top of the window:
http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/howto_fix_apples_itunes_10s_minimize_maximize_closebuttons/
Now, I have the 3 buttons at the top and a narrow, grey menu bar at the top of the right menu bar - but the main part of the right top menu bar is still missing, including the functionalities mentioned.

My buttons that I create or add to menu bar keep dissappearing?
This has happened quite a few times on me. When I add another toolbar, and add custom buttons to it, after a whiles, days, maybe weeks, they dissapear, along with the toolbar. Also if I just add them to the Menu bar, which has little room for them, they dissappear to. Toolbar and all!
There may be a problem with the file that stores toolbar customizations. Hopefully if you delete this file then reset your customizations they should stick. For details see either https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Toolbar+keeps+resetting or http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

Spry menu bar woes (add submenu levels and edit width)
So i need some spry menu bar help. Apparently as a graphic designer i'm also expected to webdesign, and while i can solve most problems with a good googling, i seem to be at my wit's end fo this one. So the site i'm doing has a header ith a horizontal spry pop-up menubar (in Dreamweaver CS4). But some problems arise: when i manually add another submenu level, they don't show up in chrome or FF, they do werk perfectly in IE6. I just add the following code to the codepage:
<li><a href="#" class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">audio equipment</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Digital Matrix Systems</a></li> <ul> <li><a href="#">R2 Digital Audio Matrix</a></li> </ul> <li><a href="#">pre-amplifiers & mixers</a></li> <ul> <li><a href="#">PMX124</a></li> </ul>
the PMX never pops open in FF an chrome.. Should i be adding anything else to another part of the code? i'd like my submenu text to have a slight indent? How ever, when i add the indent to ul.menubarhorizontal ul , it elongates the submeny boxes in IE6, while looking normal (width) in chrome and FF. WHat part of the CSS style should i change to just have the text scoot over a bit without it really affecting the box layout? ALso, if anyone could tell me how to add a wee bit of spacing above the text (and beneath), i'd be eternally gratefull. Also, how do i change the with of the submenus? seing as my main buttons are images, but the names i ned to put in my submenus are turning out to be pretty long...
HTML code for the menu:

How do I add the Displays icon to the Menu Bar?
In prior OS on my iMac, I was able to add the Display icon to the Menu Bar, making it a quick fix to adjust the resolution. That option no longer appears in the Display section of System Preferences. I am using multiple displays. Could that make any difference? Any suggestions?

When I try to open safari the icon stats bouncing and then nothing happens other than the cursor turning to a spinning rainbow wheel when it hoovers on the top main menu bar. I can't even get the browser window to open so that I can clear caches or reset anything. When I opened my computer this time I don't even get a bouncing icon. No recognition of selecting the program at all. If I go to spotlight and try to open safari from here I still get no response. Can you help?
Hi ...
If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Try Safari.

When I open Firefox I do not get an address bar only Google comes up. I don't get a back or forward button nor do I get the tool bar or menu bar. There is no default button. I read the forum but I can not make any corrections because I don't have a tool bar displayed. I am using 3.6. When I turn off my computer and then turn it back on, the default settings still do not return.
It is a long while since I tried Google Toolbar, I am not sure what it changes. But I would not expect it to totally remove your options to use the ordinary toolbars.
■ Try
* press the''' alt '''key on the keyboard, that may return the menu bar
* once you have the menubar '''View -> Toolbars ->''' and select which you need
* you may also use View-> Toolbars -> Customise and drag items back or use the restore default set option.
* right clicking on the toolbars also gets you to the customise and show toolbars options
■ have a look at [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]]
PS
I hope you do not need to resort to editing registry settings, the firefox 'dragons' in prefs are user friendly compared with Windows registry. Messing up firefox prefs only really affects firefox normally; whereas errors in a registry edit may prevent you from even booting the computer. -
My safari menu bar is missing. The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer. Any ideas how to retrieve it? Thanks.
I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to. I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.
