My menu bar is wider than my second display.  Why?

All of a sudden, my Finder menu bar is wider than my second display and overlaps into my first display.  I'd like to correct this but don't know how.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

• Changing Currency Symbol from the Menu bar to other than €

I use the Costa Rican colon symbol ¢ (in front of number) as a routine value, as well as the U.S. dollar symbol and it seems cumbersome to select the "Inspector" to make these alternate currency symbols (or any alternate to € symbol). Speaking of the Costa Rican colon, it is represented incorrectly anyway and I don't know how to change the symbol.
Also, in the pop-up menu of the "Inspector -- currency" all currency symbols show as € and only when a cell is clicked after selecting a currency symbol, does it appear in the cell (not correct, but at least something other than €.
This is my first hour of "playing with" Numbers. I hope it's not a sign of things to come.

There are many variations to the symbols used for currency worldwide, please, if yours is wrong let Apple know. The feedback option is under Numbers on the menu bar. This is a user to user forum provided by Apple, not run by them.
My symbol on the menu bar is $, which is correct and rather common worldwide, maybe a generic currency symbol is used for smaller areas of the world. I know I have the Australian flag rather than a New Zealand one on my menu bar for the international settings. We are obviously too small to have our own
You can show all currency options in the inspector by changing the Numbers preferences. A quick way of selecting the correct currency in the inspector is to open the list and type the first few letters.
I'd expect your default would be the same as you have set in the System Preferences > International.
You could also make a couple of templates for yourself in both currencies and use them instead.
Numbers is a neat piece of software, keep playing with it and you may well get to like it.

• Simple Menu Bar On Home Page Doesn't Display in IE 7

Hello,
I have a really simple xhtml site with a menu bar at the top of the page.  It looks great in firefox and works in most version of IE but it disappears in IE 7 and I have no idea how to fix it.  The site is staged at www.consurv.net/stage.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
- John

Corel, I know you mean well, but your solution does not work.
You keep posting this all over the place but can't you see it isn't helping people? Safe Mode is useless. I have no conflicts with add-ons, extensions or plugins. Those dozens of "places" files that you say must be deleted...that's utterly insane.
Firefox has created a new browser that is buggy in a major league way and they must fix it. If not, I'm going to use another browser and I will uninstall Firefox.

• Spry Menu Bar: OL rather than UL

Does anyone know of a way to modify the javascript and css
files to change the default UL arrangement to an OL arrangement and
still have the widget recognized as a widget within Dreamweaver?
OLs would be better for accessibility and Section 508 reasons as
one can right rules for aural browsers that see the OL list type as
an outline, e.g. I, A, 1, a, i; whereas ULs cannot have such
information. It makes it easier to show the relationships of
parents and children for non-visual users.
I have attempted to change the scripts and css files, but DW
ceases to read the widget as a widget. Ideally, the initial screen
that allows choice of horizontal and vertical menus could also
query on list type and the drop the appropriate javascript/css set
into the Spry directory.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi
It can certainly be done, but will require rewriting the css, (and possibly javascript).
You best solution is to repost your question in the spry forum, as possibly someone there knows of a tutorial or an example of the code - http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry.

• How to develop/print a report wider than 8.5 inches, why cant we landscape

Hi All Gurus,
I am new to Oracle Reports. I have a problem, I have a report that has rows longer than normal A4, A5, A6 paper width, so report lines either tend to go on next page or on next line of the same page. Also Oracle Report is not allowing me to print report in landscape mode, why this limitation ? I am wondering, cuz in older character based tools (Foxpro, Informix-4GL), we could easily print wider reports on a line printer which always had a capacity of 132 characters (and in condensed mode, 224 characters). So only small (and very simple) reports were printed on regular paper of 80 characters (8.5 inches wide), but for almost all real use reports we were able to use 132 (224 in condensed) characters paper.
How can we do this ith Oracle GUI report builder?. Why are we limited to 80 character paper size? why cant we print report in landscape mode? It is not, in any case, allowing me columns that go beyond 80 characters (8.5 inches) on a line. If this is an Oracle limitation, I would say Oracle Reports cannot be used for actual reporting, it is just a fancy with GUI and colors!!!!!
Can anybody answer my questions? please tell me an immediate solution.
Thanks in Advance

You can go to Object Navigator, under Layout Model, click the Main Section icon to open the property, change to Width from 8.5 to 11 and Height from 11 to 8.5. Do the same for Header/Trailer Sections if needed.
At report printing, choose Landscape Orientation.

• Appstore not display correctly. Display content is wider than the screen. Why?

Is this a bug?
By the way, why there is iPad App on iPhone? Can iPhone run iPad Apps?

It does seem as though you have zoom turned on. Try these steps
triple click home button - this may fix issue
reset as chrisfromgastonia suggested - this may fix issue
navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings
None of the above steps will delate any data. You will have to re-type passwords for networks you've joined and your wallpaper will reset to default

• Menu bar shows twice on dual monitor, dock moves around

Mac Pro (early 2008) w/ Yosemite and dual monitor display
The menu bar at the top of the screen appears on BOTH monitors ALL the time. However, the one on the secondary monitor is dimmed out, and can be two or three app switches behind. For example, awhile ago I worked in Illustrator, and the Illustrator menu bar is visible in the second monitor (but dimmed). On the main monitor I have been in several apps since, but currently it is showing Firefox. If I mouse click on that dimmed out menu it will go right to Illustrator - and the Illustrator menu will appear on BOTH monitors. It will remain this way until switching to another app which has palettes on the second monitor, so just now I went to InDesign, and now that menu bar is visible. Also visible are the usual items in the right part of the menu, such as the time.
The Dock can also switch monitors, but that has only happened once.
Finally, but I think related. When in Adobe apps, with all the palettes located in the second monitor, when I click on something which should pop up more choices (anything in the character palette) - sometimes the pop-up will appear all the way across both screens, and on the main monitor. That is a ridiculous pain.
Other than that the system seems stable, and the apps do work. I did go back down to one desktop in spaces, but that seems to make no difference. Ideas ???

In my preferences - NONE of the check boxes are checked. I did check the mirror displays one earlier today, but that is not the answer.
Right now on my main monitor I have Firefox in the top menu, and the dock in the bottom, on the secondary monitor, it shows Photoshop main menu dimmed out. If I click on a Photoshop command in that menu, it immediately goes to the program.
iTunes is open, I just moved the main window over to that second monitor, now I can see both this Firefox screen and the Firefox menu, but now on the secondary monitor I see the iTunes window -- and the iTunes main menu is visible but dimmed in the second monitor.
I honestly don't think this is intended. It is certainly not helpful. The second monitor seems to remember whatever was open there last. Weird. I have used 2 monitors for YEARS, not seen that one before.

Can you explain the problem better?
So, you select a Menu, scroll down to an item that has a submenu and you click on it? Clicking isn’t necessary but anyway, what happens next?
If I select a menu item, then hover over a submenu’d item, the submenu pops out to the side and I select an item from that menu. What does yours do?

• Menu Bar Width Issues

Hi, everyone!
I recently inherited a website that I did not originally create that contains a menu bar created in Fireworks.  To achieve the desired effects, I probably would have created a Spry menu (and made it a lot less complicated in terms of menu choices), so I'm not as familiar with this.
The client wants some items added to the menu, so I was able to procure the original Fireworks files instead of just the exported ones.  (You can view the original site here.)  I realize there are some design issues in addition to the site having been done in tables, but I still want to add the desired menu items quickly before doing a site re-design.
If you go to the link, under "Association Documents" there's a "Community Plats" section.  I have new plats to add to that section.  I added them in the appropriate place in the FW file and made sure the width was set to "auto".  When I insert it into Dreamweaver and then preview, however, that area retains its original width (Section 1, Section 2, etc.).  The new menu items are wider than the current ones, so the text bleeds out of the menu area.  Like I said, I have checked the width for the menu and it is set to auto.  Is there something else I need to do differently for the sub-menu?  I think this was done in a previous version of FW (I'm in CS4)... could that make a difference?
I'd really appreciate any insight here.  Thanks in advance!

• Extended desktop - choosing location of menu bar?

Is there a way to make the menu bar -- for Finder and (especially) apps -- appear on the "second monitor" instead of the built-in monitor of my new iMac? If not in Tiger, is this possible with Leopard?
Why? I'll want to use the built-in for TV/video and the second for text-work, but text-work is very difficult with the menu bars of an app on the other monitor!

I feel foolish because I've used the "arrangement" preference, but (oops) I just didn't notice where it says "to relocate the menu bar, drag it to a different display." Duh. (and even without reading, the way it works is very Mac-ish and intuitive, even without instructions) Well, thanks for pointing it out. Craig
P.S. There are other problems -- like when using "full screen" in EyeTV sometimes (depending on what is open) everything on the second desktop goes black and the dock doesn't work, and the only way to recover control is with "F11, click on the desktop, F11" and then things are OK -- but overall the dual monitors work well.

• 2007 MBP (10.5.8) DVI to HDMI to flatscreen, get the desktop picture but nothing else-no dock, no menu bar, no desktop clutter, no arrow. Any ideas?

hmmm-
Anyway-
I connect to the TV and get my desktop image no problem-beautiful-but that's all.
No dock, no menu bar, no desktop clutter, no windows, no pointer.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
S

Your external monitor is in Extended Desktop mode.
There are three modes in which you can view your MBP on the TV:
1. Clamshell mode, in which the MBP's own display is closed and you have an external keyboard and mouse or trackpad connected to it. The menu bar and Dock appear on the external display and you can set its resolution to your liking.
2. Mirrored mode, in which both screens display exactly the same thing at the same resolution. The maximum resolution of the lower-resolution display, whichever it is, will be the maximum for both screens in Mirrored mode. So if you connect a 1920 x 1080 HDTV to a 13" MBP with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800, 1280 x 800 will be the highest resolution the TV can be set to display in Mirored mode. And if you connect a 1024 x 768 projector to the same MBP, the MBP's built-in screen will switch to 1024 x 768 while the projector is connected in Mirrored mode.
3. Extended Desktop mode, in which the TV serves as a second expanse of desktop onto which you can drag windows from the built-in display by dragging them off one edge of the built-in display. You can choose whether the desktop is extended to the left, right or top of the built-in display by dragging the rectangle that represents the TV in the Displays pane of System Preferences. You can also drag the menu bar onto the TV in the Displays pane of System Preferences, making the TV set your primary display, with the menu bar and Dock on it. In Extended Desktop mode, unlike Mirrored mode, you can set the resolutions of the TV and the built-in display separately, to optimize the image quality on both of them.
Your TV is now in Extended Desktop mode. Open any window on the MBP's display and drag it off the left and right edges of the screen. You will see it slide onto the TV screen on one side or the other. Now go to the Displays pane of System Preferences, click the Arrangement tab, and arrange the positions of the screens and menu bar as you prefer.
You can switch to Mirrored mode if you wish; to toggle back and forth between ED and M mode, just press Command+F1. Mirroring is simpler to understand, but the image quality on an HDTV set that has a typical 1920 x 1080 native resolution will be poor (blurry) if it's forced to operate at a lower resolution to match that of a 13" or 15" MBP display. You cannot set different resolutions on the two displays in Mirrored mode.

• Where have my menu bars gone for full screen apps?

Hello
Liking Lion so far but a quick query:
When I first started using it, I could make the menu bar appear in a full screen app by simply moving the cursor up to the top of the screen and holding it there - the menu bar would appear within a second.
Now, nothing happens. I have to either quit the application - or I've now found that CTRL/CMD/F pulls me out of the full screen - but then that puts the app back onto the main desktop.
Is there anything I might have done to alter this behaviour?
Thanks..

TheNudger wrote:
I think you are right and it's a bug.
I can't reproduce it on my system. You might want to
create a new User go to System Preferences > Accounts > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test full screen in this new account, to see if the problem is isolated to your User or systemwide.

• Is it possible to turn off the menu bar on secondary display?

I have upgraded to Mavericks on an iMac used exclusively for presentations (not mirrored) and now the menu bar shows up dimmed on the presentation screen if there is not a presentation currently playing. I have not found any setting for turning off for that display. Can it be done? If not Apple please add this option ASAP because it looks very unprofessional to have the menu bar pop-up on the presentation display in between presentations.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
-Michael Wheeler

It worked but needed some further finessing to perfect.
After unchecking "Displays have separate Spaces" and logging out and back in the menu bar was gone but however now it showed the same desktop picture as was on the primary display. That was highly undesireable as I was trying to get rid of anything being shown on the projection screen when a slide show was not playing.
I played around with the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preference pane and discovered that I could still change the Desktop pictures of each display separately -- whew! I was worried there for a while. Not sure why it didn't just keep the original solid black desktop setting for that display as that would have been ideal but I was able to change it back to the solid black setting as before and now it just looks like the projection screen is off whenever a slide show is not playing -- perfect!
Let me just say to Apple that the whole process was very unintuitive and couldn've been solved with just a simple checkbox in the "Displays" preference pane to turn off the menu bar for the alternate display. So may I kindly suggest you consider adding some sort of option to do that in the Displays preference pane where it would be much more intiuitive than "Mission Control --> Uncheck Deisplays have separate Spaces."
Thanks again for you help!
