My messages won't send, why?

Trying to send messages

this link doesn't help. My messages work fine until I do the upgrades, then they start sending, and stop mid-way thorugh, and I get the message "not delivered." This is the 2nd time this has happened after upgrading. Do I have to go to the genius bar every time I get an upgrade request, or should I not upgrade?

I have the newest version of the iPad (3rd generation) with wifi. The messaging won't send out but I'm receiving messages from others when I'm using it. They also come through on my iphone at the same time. But I can't send them out on the iPad. I tried someone's suggestion of changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and that did not work to fix it. What is wrong with this thing?  Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you trying to send a message to a cell number or an email address?  iPad does MMS, not SMS, meaning it can't send a message to a number.  It can send a message to an email address........

Settings -> Messages -> do you have "Send as SMS" ON?
If not, then your messaging app will be restricted solely to Apple's iMessage service, which only works between iOS devices.

  • Messages won't send files via AIM anymore

I've been using Messages via AIM and iMessage and had no problems sending files or images for years until recently. Now AIM won't send files. There's no error message and I can see the image in the conversation window but the recipient doesn't get the file/image. Also when they try to send to me, I don't get the file/image either. This problem has started just this week.
We have had our broadband upgraded and a new router installed but it's in Modem mode and hooked up to our Airport Time Capsule that runs the wifi.
I've read some posts about port changes, but not sure if this would be the case.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Martin

    Hi,
See also AIM Screen Names using @Mac.com or @me.com IDs to end  (it is in Mountain Lion's area)
The @mac.com and @me.com name should still work as AIM valid Screen Names.
It is only in iChat up to and including the base version of iChat 6 in Lion.
The Later updated version of iChat 6 should work.
It is because during Lion Apple introduced the double Login to AIM and Apple that allows the app to confirm you can login in with the Apple ID.
Basically unless the app has logged in to Apple with the ID then the AIM server cannot see it.
To  certain extent this already was the case in AIM and iChat for @me.com ID once there was no MobileMe server.
All @me.com names that became linked to iCloud IDs  get around that by being iCloud IDs.
So... Later versions of iChat 6, Messages 7 in Mountain Lion, Messages 8 in Mavericks and the version in Yosemite (also called version 8)  all allow Logins with Apple Issued IDs to the AIM servers.
It does help that you may have "updated" the account yourself along the way - such as Linking an @mac.com to MobileMe when MobileMe came out and again for iCloud.
This may mean that actually you have an Apple ID that has @[email protected] and @icloud.com  emails and all those "IDs" works as login names with the same password.

  • Messages won't send pictures or files.

    Hello,
My Messages in Mountain Lion won't send pictures or files (using imessage). It did work for a few days but has now stopped. The strange thing is Messages beta in Lion still works perfectly. I've tried deactivating anf activating account and still no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I've been with the same problem for a couple of days, until finally today Messages simply stopped showing even a the window, so absolute inability to use it.
Considering that reinstalling the operating system is NOT a solution, I searched for something myself.
Pictures are controlled by xpcd, imagent and Messages, and it seems that when the problem arises is because they're using the wrong Apple server.
While this may be solved by Apple in a update (I hope so), in the meantime you can do a workaround (it worked for me on two different machines, and even days old images appeared).
In your Library, there is a folder called Preferences (that is /Users/<your_username>/Library/Preferences). There you should delete com.apple.imagent.plist com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist, with Messages CLOSED. Then reboot so Messages creates new ones. Also delete all file starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat that end in .lock.
If even then it still is not working, deleting all files starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat 100% for sure. But when you reboot you'll find you need to input again your login data for iMessage, FaceTime, Yahoo chat, AIM chat, Google Talk and Jabber (if you used them on Messages/iChat).
This is an annoyance, but less than a whole operating system reinstall or losing the functionality.
After all of this is done you should regain the ability to receive photos, send photos and drag&drop photos.

I've tried every possible solution for this problem -- cleared cache, reinstalled Windows, updated Firefox and Flash, even installed the beta 64-bit version of Flash -- NOTHING helps. Since no one seems to have any ideas about this problem, I'm throwing in the towel on Firefox. The problem has never occurred in IE.

  • Can't create message-won't send

Recently my wife has been unable to create a new message on her TiBook. You click on create message fill in the to and subject and go to the body and you can't input more than 6 characters. It just starting beeping. If you click on send nothing happens. The only thing you can do is save as a draft. You can send web-based email. There is very little mail in her IMAP account so space is not a problem. When I switch users and try it from my account the same thing happens.
I tried it with an external keyboard and no joy. Don't know what else to try. Is it possible to just reinstall Mail?
Ti 1 gig with 1 gig   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have a fix for this! There is something in your cache that's corrupted.
To fix this, I downloaded MainMenu from VersionTracker ( http://tc.versiontracker.com/product/redir/lid/672564/MainMenu15.zip). I ran the "quick clean" option of "clean system cache". Rebooted the machine. I no longer have any of the problems I had: I can type a new message; I can send a message; I can forward a message.

  • Messages won't send on certain networks

I get this message when trying to send my messages on certain wireless networks.
The connection to the server “smtp.home.se” on port 25 timed out.
You can try to send using a different server. All messages will use this server until you quit or change your network settings.
I would love to know why it doesn't work. Thanks a lot.
    Daniel

Are these wireless networks paid or free?
If you are accessing a wireless network at a friend's residence - most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent or reduce spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
In most situations like this, changing the Port for the SMTP server from 25 to 587 will resolve it. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting. When exiting Mail preferences, select OK to save the changed account settings if prompted.
For some wireless access points such as at a Coffee shop or other, etc. which sometimes require payment for access and this SMTP server is authenticated, changing the authentication to None sometimes resolves it.
Basically, you need to determine the internet service provider for the wireless network being used and their restrictions/requirements for using an SMTP server that is outside of the ISP's network or that isn't provided by that ISP.
