My Metadata appears to be permanent

I'm still learning Aperture and trying to develop a work flow for my photography needs. I'm planning to fill in Metadata on every picture I import as I'm starting from scratch on this machine so it only makes sense to. I'm doing some experimenting with Metadata and I am having some issues. I imported a photo as a referenced photo into Aperture and added a single word of Metadata, such as "Test." I then exported the Master to another folder for testing purposes. I then deleted the photo in Aperture along with the original Master file. I then imported the photo into Aperture again from the new location as a referenced photo, deleted the Metadata keyword, then exported the Master file to another location, deleted the referenced file along with the current Master. I then, for testing purposes only, imported the Master (that should have NO KEYWORDS) into Aperture and the keyword was still there. This is impractical as far as a workflow of any sort but the keyword seems like it cannot be deleted once it is typed in.
Does exporting a Master to a new location export everything including the current Metadata content? It is possible that I'm doing something wrong but I'd like to see how I can add a keyword, export the Master somewhere else, remove the keyword, move the Master again and import the photo as a referenced file with that keyword gone. Why does it appear that I cannot delete the keyword? I've tried simply erasing it, clearing IPTC metadata, removing the keyword from the HUD, etc... and it alway's seems to come back somehow. I want to know that removing the keyword is an option while being able to move lose the original master and import an archived Master without a keyword finding it's way back to the photo. When I export the Master I make sure to click not to export IPTC metadata and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Can someone try and duplicate my testing process and see if they can get it to work, it may really help to make things make sense with this app.
Thanks a ton in advance!!

i did some more testing today and still seem to have issues, I'll try to explain it a bit simpler.
I can add some metadata to a picture and export the master with IPTC metadata to another location. I can then import a photo from that new master into Aperture and the metadata will be with it. That works good so far. But...If I erase, or remove the Metadata, export the master to another location with IPTC metadata again, then import the photo from THAT master and the old metadata will come with it even though it was exported with all of the metadata removed. It should have imported with the metadata clear, but it brought metadata from several masters ago. I'm doing this testing to make sure I understand exactly how the metadata system works in Aperture before I start spending tons and tons of time adding it.

  • Metadata appearing in viewer

    I am making a book when i add a photo to the page template in viewer the metadata appears below the photo i have 2 questions
    1 will the meta appear in the printed book
    2 how can i remove it
    regards

    The metadata will appear (or not) depending on what templates you select (including which book theme), and yes, if it is on the page it will be in the book.
    You need to look at where the metadata is being displayed, find the field in the template that is showing it, click on it and delete it from the page. If you are selecting a page template that includes metadata then you will have to do this for every page.
    Deleting it from the page does not delete it from the template, only from this page.
    The easiest was is to not use templates that have meta data embedded on them

  • Managed Metadata appearing in wrong columns after Restoring a site to a new Site Collection

    I've restored a site with some libraries that have Managed Metadata (MM) columns from one site collection into another site collection inside the same web app so it should all subscribe to the same Managed Metadata
    Service Application.
    There are two MM columns in one library, one holds a single value which is what type of document it is, the other is a general tag field that allows the user to add multiple MM values to it if they want.
    What we've found  is that data has randomly disappeared on some MM fields, on others it appears in the wrong column, and in other cases it appears fine.
    I used native out of the box GUI backup and restored with the command line,
    I've done it twice with the same result, so it’s not a one off corruption during backup. It's the same story in a different doc library based on different term sets as well.
    Of all the things to not work properly, MM was probably last on my list to expect, it's knocked my confidence in it a bit, as well as worried me about future upgrades.
    If anyone has any ideas over what may be the cause of this, it would be appreciated, I've read lots of blogs, but nothing quite like this has cropped up.
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Most of the ISV offerings will allow you to 'Migrate' content from one SP location to another. I'm pretty sure AvePoint and a few others have tools specifically developed for shifting bits and pieces around SharePoint farms.
    It is a limitation but the ISV tools tend to do a good job and maintain nearly full consistency.
    There's scripts around that can do much/most of the migration and you could always extend them to do the same things as the ISV migration tools however the cost to do so can quickly get to the same ballpark as buying an already made tool.

  • Track (summing) stacks appears permanently armed

    Hello,
    Since Logic 10.0.5, track (summing) stacks and some audio tracks appears to be permanently record enabled. The R-button is always red (Red square with white text). Because of this, it´s impossible to use Logic remote on iPad, or the Mackie MCU controller. Please fix this, as it leaves Logic unusable for my business, and is forcing me to use other software.

    I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
    I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
    The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
    Will check it and report back.

  • Metadata status not updated although saved

    I recently installed LR 3.5 on a new computer with Windows 7.  All my 25000 + files are present and linked to LR - I have "automatically write changes into XMP" checked in catalogue settings.  However if I make any changes to a file in the develop module, the metadata panel says that metadata is "inchanged" and the little exclamation mark appears on the preview in the filmstrip and that is even if a do a ctrl S and the activity viewer quickly says it is saving the metadata.  However, the changes appear to be permanent as the history remains up to date even after I close and reopen LR.  I have not yet tried to import any images since getting the new computer as I want to make sure everything is working as it should be!!  What have I done wrong?

    Never assume the metadata is saved when checking in lightroom(by just reopening LR). The metadata is stored in the database and therefore would give you a false positive. You have two choices, use another app that will read the metadata directly from the xmp file like adobe bridge, or reload the metadata from that file into lightroom (Metadata>Read Metadata from files). Please note that doing the latter will destroy any changes you have made to that image in lightroom if the save did not work, for what ever reason.
    If you are autosaving or ctrl-s saving the metadata and it is not taking, one of the things to look at is the files permissions, they may be set to not over write unless you are another person, another app, another computer, etc.
    Right click on the folder in explorer and make sure you have full access for the image folder and also check the lightroom apps folder and verify it has full access as well. Generally the latter with minimum permission will stop LR from using the open and save dialog boxes making it look like the app had frozen.

  • Sync metadata to multiple files - how does that work?

    Frustrating.  In Library Module of LR4.4 under Vista 32, I have corrected a "Capture Time" of a single jpg Photo via the "Edit Capture Time" dialog.  The new date correctly shows up in the "Date Time Original" EXIF field of the Metadata panel on the right.
    Now, I want to sync that date to other jpgs which all come with incorrect "Date Time Original" - so, I highlight the above photo, mark the other ones to less light grey, press "Sync Metadata".  THe dialog of  "Sync Metadata" appears, showing the new date under "ICPT image" as "date created" - so far so good.  I mark that field, and press the ok button and the sync runs.  After that, no change is shown to the respective field of any of the photos metadata fields to be sync'd, no sync has actually happened, and even the "Save Metadata to file" command does cure this situation.
    Using the command with a single target file instead of multiple ones does not help either.
    What does help?
    Why can't I update a set of superold pictures to their correct "date created" date via Metadata sync? This Metadata sync does not sync.
    thanks for comments

    Well, of course, one can always take the escape route to software that works. -
    However, IF Adobe advertises "Metadata sync" in a software licensed for money, THEN this function should work. Am I right or am I right?
    I found, that particularly the one single Metadata field "Capture time" can be set for a multitude of images (selected before using this command from the pulldown menue) - which helped for my problem.  But what about other Metadata fields, if the "Sync Metadata" function does not work as intended?  No word in the documentation such as "there is a function "Sync Metadata" but please do not expect ANY function at all when using it".
    Using a freeware such as ExifMeta to get arund a "non-function" is not the purpose of using a software such as Lightroom - please understand.

  • Bridge CC - metadata pop-up over thumbnails

    I am running the latest version of Bridge CC with Photoshop CC.  When browsing thumbnails in Bridge, if you put the curser over a thumbnail the metadata appears over the image in a pop-up window.  I find these really distracting - is there a way to turn off that function?  Thanks.  Mark Weidman

  • Metadata in Bridge

    In Adobe Bridge CS6 I downloaded a series of photos from a Canon 5D Mark 2.  First I downloaded them to Bridge on a PC running Windows 7.  There were no issues.  Next, I downloaded them to Bridge on an iMac running OSX Maverick.  No metadata appears in Bridge on the Mac platform.  If all of the metadata appears properly on the PC platform then the files obviously contain the metadata.  Why does it not display in Bridge on the Mac platform?

    Hi Rick,
    Sorry, but I'm at a loss. I've used Bridge on a Mac since it first appeared in CS2 and I've never had an issue as you describe.
    Since the metadata (by definition) is part of the images, it HAS to be there. Why your copy of Bridge is not seeing this, I am not sure.
    When you look at an image in PS (on your Mac), do you see the metadata when you go to File (menu) -> File Info?
    One other thing to try is to quit Bridge and press Command-Option-Shift while double-clicking the Bridge application to start it. You'll be asked if you want to toss the preferences and click OK. Does that help dope-slap Bridge?

  • How to make custom Metadata accessible in Text Template Editor ?

    Hi all.
    I used Lightroom SDK to create a plugin generating custom set of Metadata (for LR5) to manage images as produced items (printed and framed photos).
    In order to be able to create usefull lists of items, I would need to be able to print this metadata fields on contact Sheets.
    This is the only functionality that prevents me from using Lightroom as a database for produced artworks, beeing able to manage exhibitions, stock locations, sales etc...
    Guess this means I have to make those new fields accessible in the Text Template Editor that allows user to compose an aggregated text from various type of metadata for printing or slideshows.
    But seems that only the original sets of metadata appears in Text Template Editor, not the one created by my plugin.
    Is there a way to add this functionnality to my plugin ?
    Thank you very much.

    First let me say I have no idea what you mean by Text Template Editor.
    mbrch wrote:

    3 ways:
    ======
    1. If metadata definitions are available in metadata provider module without running plugin initialization function (i.e. as on-the-fly compilable lua), then Jeffrey Friedl's Metadata Viewing Preset Editor will support it. (this is the normal case, the other case would be if plugin init computes a global variable that is returned by metadata provider module instead).
    2. You can edit a metadata viewing preset manually, by placing a .lrtemplate file in 'Metadata Field Lists' folder - in with your other presets (is that what you meant by text template editor?). - see example below.
    3. Define a tagset factory for your plugin and return the metdata viewing preset options from the tagset factory implementation file - there are instructions in the programmer's guide.
    Example below:
    return {
       items = {
             formatter = "com.adobe.label",
             label = "File/Folder"
          "com.robcole.photoName",
          "com.robcole.folderPath",
             formatter = "com.adobe.label",
             label = ""
          'com.robcole.developSettings.ProcessVersion', -- individual develop settings can be included like this.
          'com.robcole.developSettings.CameraProfile', -- individual develop settings can be included like this.
             formatter = "com.adobe.label",
             label = ""
             formatter = "com.adobe.label",
             label = "Exif Metadata"
          'com.robcole.exif.AELockButton',
          'com.robcole.exif.ActiveD-Lighting',
          -- add more here...
          'com.robcole.exif.' -- "help" item - remove this item once you've got the hang of this...
       title = "Exif Select",
       id = "Exif_Select_382790710"

  • Metadata not showing up in Photoshop

    I have Photoshop Tiff file that is managed in the Aperture library. When viewing the image in Aperture all the proper metadata appears in the Metadata pane. But when I open the photo in Photoshop and look at 'file info' only my name appears. Am I missing some kind of export option?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Gary

    If you import the file by reference, you need to export the file (as TIFF) from Aperture. Simply opening the referenced file in Photoshop won't see any of the metadata tags that Aperture adds -- as Aperture is treating the referenced file as a master.
    Aperture does not touch masters, ever. So export a version as a TIFF file if you want to see the Aperture modifications -- including metadata and adjustments (cropping, sharpening, etc.).
    I think it's better to use "open in external editor" from within Aperture, actually, in this case.

  • IPhoto "metadata changes" and management with possible import to Aperture 2

    Sorry for the length of this but I am trying to get to figure out which will be the best product for me without having to waste more time and money. I may already have the best for what I want/need but I am not too terribly satisfied with it in its current configuration, although within itself it is great.
    I currently have iPhoto '09 and, as I say, like its ease of use, etc. A feature I have really come to enjoy is the geotagging feature. But one thing that I DO NOT LIKE is how the information is not incorporated into the metadata of the file permanently, such as when I change the date or name of an image. It becomes a pain when I want to export a file for use outside of iPhoto, such as Photoshop, or if I want to email it using my Gmail account.
    Questions:
    1. Is there a way to have the actual image metadata permanently changed if I have renamed the image, added gps information, or changed the date/time an image was taken? If so, how?
    2. Is there a way to export the information and have the information stick?
    3. (An Aperture question) I do not have Aperture now but I'm thinking of purchasing it because I understand (may be dead wrong here) that Aperture can do what I need. For those who know, can it do it? If so, is there a way to get my images from iPhoto into Aperture with all of the information attached (name, description, date/time, gps, etc) seamlessly or will I be forced to redo everything?
    4. (Another Aperture question) Is Aperture good for organization in and of itself? In other words, can it completely replace iPhoto while still allowing me to enjoy all of the features I currently have (seeing geotags on maps, searching with keywords, etc)?
    Do you have other advice for me? If Aperture won't work or you don't like it for some reason, what to you prefer/recommend that will do what I need? Can you provide links to anything that may be helpful?
    Thanks for your help and have a wonderful weekend!!!

    1. Is there a way to have the actual image metadata permanently changed if I have renamed the image, added gps information, or changed the date/time an image was taken? If so, how?
    You can rename an image but that’s not the same as renaming a File. Iphoto renames the image, and using the File -> Export command that title can be written to the IPTC data of the file. Also, if you choose you can use the Title as a Filename using the same Export command. You can also write the gps data using that route too. As for changing the date and time, if you use the Adjust Date and Time command you can opt to have that written to the actual file.
    2. Is there a way to export the information and have the information stick?
    See above. What there is no way of doing is writing that data to the files inside iPhoto - and no need to.
    Aperture works the same way - metadata is stored in the DB, not written to the file unless you choose to on export. It too is a database application. You can seamlessly move the data from iPhoto to Aperture using the ‘Import iPhoto Library command’. You can download a trial of Aperture, and I recommend you do.
    4. (Another Aperture question) Is Aperture good for organization in and of itself? In other words, can it completely replace iPhoto while still allowing me to enjoy all of the features I currently have (seeing geotags on maps, searching with keywords, etc)?
    Aperture is much more powerful - and complex - than iPhoto. It’s geared for the Professional shooting RAW. I can completely replace iPhoto bar some things: there’s no way currently to tag gps data in Aperture, very limited slideshows and no concept of Faces. I strongly urge you to download the trial. There’s a learning curve there.

  • Read infotype metadata

    Hello,
    We're building a custom (portal) view for editing PA infotypes. We configured IT metadata through transaction PM01 -> Edit Field Characteristics (Cust. Table).
    Now we would like to read this metadata for dynamically detmermine which fields are mandatory, read-only or unused. This metadata appears to be stored in the T588MFPROPC table.
    What is the standard method or FM to read this metadata?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks!
    It works only for a given field, but that's fine.
