Iphone 4 microphones don't work
I bought an iphone 4 yesterday(secondhand) but when I came home i realised the microphones don't work.
I've tried cleaning the holes, recovering the software, tried calling.
The headset does work, the mics don't work in any app. I've tried a lot of them.
Weirdly enough, when I call and i press numbers on the keypad, the other person hears the sound.
We don't have apple stores here, only normal phone stores. I really don't know what to do.
The person that i bought it from says it worked..OK, let's try a reset.
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure. -
TS2634 My iphone headphones with microphone don't work. Any suggestions?
My iphone headphones with microphone have stopped working, and they are under warranty. I am having difficulty getting an answer about what to do from Apple - just got off the phone with them, and they emailed me an article that was of no help at all. Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
All, I have this same problem and has just solved it on my iPhone.
I read up on the problem at att.com/esupport and arrived at the link below:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB413495#fbid=ahhj00ALH45
"If your email address is linked to your AT&T Access ID, changing your AT&T Access ID password automatically changes your email password to the same password.
If you use your email address as your AT&T Access ID, changing your email password automatically changes your AT&T Access ID password to the same password."
I have a ATT Uverse (for my internet access) acct and could not log on so I requested for password reset. They sent me temp password and I had to change my password to my Uverse acct. I use my att.net email as the log on for my Uverse acct. Per att instructions above, my Uverse acct is linked to my att.net email, so now my att.net email pw has been changed to the pw for my Uverse acct.
Accordingly, go into your iPhone Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose your Att.net mail acct and change your password. In my case I changed it to the new pw I had set up for my Uverse acct and it works.
Before doing this, I had also added new servers as shown below. The way I see it because your iPhone will try in succession to log on to each server from top to bottom of the list, it's best to add all the mail servers.
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.att.net
outbound.att.net
Please note that I did not have to add "imap.mail.att.net" and my Att.net mail on my iPhone still works.
Hope this helps. -
My microphones don't work with my laptop
I've got a toshiba laptop running XP and my microphone and external microphone doesn't work. The other person can't hear me. I've tried all the different possible settings, but notice that the mute is checked whenever I check back to the settings.
Please help.
Thanks,
BrianThen you need to contact the vendor or manufacturer to find out if its compatible with Lion.

External microphones don't work with audio input
Tell me its not true that an ordinary mic won't work with the audio input....I have 2 mics which I know to work mini jack [tried both stereo and mono] and zip! nothing....what is wrong with this equation
any ideas from the floor? [do I really have to go and buy another usb headset or an iMic to resolve this??
please tell me there's another option!
thanks
TonyI have been unable to get the microphone input with a Viewsonic 22" monitor with webcam to work with either iChat or iVisit with my Mac Pro. There have been other reports on the web about newer versions of the OS 10 inactivating the audio input for several programs. Is this why the microphone does not work or is it true that the audio input does not act as one? If the audio input does not work with an external microphone, what is it for?

[SOLVED] HP420 and Built-in microphone don't work.
I have a trouble with my on-board microphone in my laptop (hp-420), it was working some months ago (with previous kernel) and I didn't use it for a while, after several upgrades now I tired to use it and it doesn't work. Second microphone, a jack, doesn't work either, and it's arch related, because I did some tests in windows (have dual boot) and both the built-in and jack work fine. So far I have tried testing alsa configurations, played with preferences and some other things I have read over the internet and in arch forums, but no luck at all. I may think it's kernel related but I'm not sure as I'm not an expert. Also sound works fine, it's only the built in microphone the one I can not get to work. I whish someone could help me or guide me.
So all the info I could gather about my machine and the sound

What is under the switches tab?
Oh -- By the way, that picture is over the size limit defined in the forum rules in tems of pixels, but the file size is okay. I'll let it slide. Watch the bumping as well.
If you want to post the switches tab, upload it to someplace like http://img3.imageshack.us/, copy the thumbnail (which has the link to the original) back here, and you are golden.
I had a bear of a time getting the microphone working on my HP DV4, but it does work. I'll look at the set up when I get home tonight [USA-PDT].
Sorry for the picture and the "bumping"... I have asked in irc in arch and alsa channels and no luck yet... one guy from alsa said I had to wait for the alsa-driver-1.0.24 package (currently I have alsa-driver-1.0.23) but it is weird because the microphone worked some months ago...
So here is what it is under the switches tab -
The skype video keeps rotating and microphone dones not work
Hi, I upgraded my laptop (Lenovo P400 touch) to windows 10. After the upgrade my skype is not working properly. I have installed the latest version of skype. My video in the skype keeps rotating and mic in the headphone is not working. People in the other end are not able to hear my voice propely. What is the solution to this? Karthik
Try this for the microphone:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00833331&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N74
For the web cam, go into device manager and see if the web cam is detected and if the driver is loaded. Check to see if it is disabled or has a yellow ! or red triangle.

Satellite L300-1A3 - Microphone is not working with Windows 7
Hello, I have a problem with integrated microphone on my laptop.
Mic comes with web cam chicony and under Windows 7 camera works just fine but microphone don't work at all.
Does anybody have solution to that problem?
Under vista microphone is working fine but I wanted to try Windows 7 on laptop and everything is working excellent except microphone.
Regards in advance. Thanks for reply. Strange is that all hardware has been properly installed, i have installed drivers from: chipset including graphic and sound card, lan, wlan, camera, aver tv card in express card slot, and everything is working great, except integrated microphone. Camera and sound are installed with vista drivers and both are working well. Win 7 in general is much better for this laptop than vista, runs very fast and stable. I will rather buy external microphone, if this couldn't be sorted out, then installing vista again.

Why does Teamspeex don't work anymore and how can I fix it?
Hi
At my university we use a Teamspeak2 Server for our online lectures. Last friday i tried to attend one of those lectures. I can still connect properly and see all participants but the is no sound at all. I can't hear anyone talking and the microphone don;t work. I checked the settings and it seems the client can not detect any of the devices (speaker nor microphone). But I am not sure if this is the only problem, because i don't even see the visuals indicating if someone speaaks.
I've a Mac Book Pro 2011 and I got it when it was out. Till the end of last semester it worked without any problems using Teamspeex Beta 4.06. I've updated to 408 but still the same problem. The only new is a MacOs upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Can I fix this somehow or do I need to install a bootcamp?Have you ever done a bump charge??? If not, to do a bump charge, wait until the indicator is green, then power down the device. the indicator will change back to orange.... Let it charge until the indicator is green again. If you have never done this, you may need to do so three days straight or so.

Satellite P300-1CE - Microphone doesn't work after Windows 7 installation
Hi everyone.
At the beginning I'm sorry for my bad english so I will say shortly.
A few days ago I removed a few programs, and I installed the new operating system Windows 7. All over it I had to download new drivers of the camera, because they didn't work. After downloading drivers of the camera, the camera became operative (YEAH!), but later I worked out that for me a built-in microphone was out of order. What can be of it with cause and what driver to download and why microphone don't work?
I can't speak with friends on skype ;( Help me. I hope you know what I say.Hello
Did you really install all drivers after Windows 7 installation? Maybe you have forgotton something and so it doesnt work.
Microphone is a part of webcam so make sure that webcam driver is installed properly and sound driver you need as well.
After this check the sound settings. Make sure that Microphone is enabled and test it again with enabled microphone boost. -
Hi Everyone,
I have encountered the following problem which I think a lot of other fellow iPhone users are also encountering however mine seems to be fairly pecuilar.
Here's the issue;
When making or receiving voice calls via my network operator's service, no one can hear me, i.e my audio input. I can hear the person on the other end of the phone fine but they can't hear me whatsoever.
However when I use the likes of viber, skype and facetime, my audio input is perferctly fine and the person on the other end of can hear me.
Note both viber and skype calls work just fine and 2 way communication is audbile regardless if I have a 3G or Wifi connection. Plus I have full singal bar strength when near a mobile tower so that elimantes antenna issues.
Also have taken alternative turns to cover both the top mic and the bottom mic during a viber or skype call and my audio input can still be heard.
I've done a reset, a hard reset of the phone and a reset of the network settings, still to no avail.
Have updated iOS to the latest version 5.1.1
Any suggestions would be much appreciated?
ThanksI have the exact same problem, I have already restored the phone and it didn't work. The microphone works with facetime, skype and the voice memos. What just doesn't make sense is that when I use my earphone's microphone when calling, it doesn't work either. If it was a hardware problem the earphone's microphone would have worked I suppose.
This is the second iPhone 4 I have. The first one shut off after 9 months so I got a replacement phone. The replacement phone lasted 10 months when the microphone stopped working. I went to the apple store and they just couldn't give me a solution. They understood my situation and told me that it was very weird but all they could offer me was that I had to pay for a replacement. This is absolutely unjust, why do we costumers have to pay for the companies mistakes. -
I am not sure when it happened but my microphone has stopped working on my ipad 2. I downloaded an application from the App Store called Starmaker for my daughter. When she tried to follow the start up instructions, she could not make a demo recording as there is no sound.
My daughter and I have used the recording/sound facility before as, when away from, I have used Skype and my daughter has used the talking animal apps.
I have tried a hard reset and tried to clear the microphone by blowing on it and using the hoover attachment to clear it but unfortunately there has been no difference.
I would be grateful for any advice you have to clear this problem, so I can have the full use of my ipad again.
Thank you.
Becva5If you have a passcode on the device and you don't know it, then thats another issue. For that, the ipad will need to be restored. This may or may not also resolve your mic issue.
You didn't say wether or not the mic fails with just this one app, or with facetime and skype as well.
Try this audio recording app if needed to test further
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audio-memos-free-voice-recorder/id304075033?mt=8
I'd stay away from using anything like a vaccuum on the ipad, but clean air might work
Try backing up the ipad to both icloud and itunes first.

[XP64] Microphone does not work in WinXP 64
Hi,In Windows XP 64bit my microphone does not work, tried it in Ventrilo 2., Skype and even in the Windows Recorder. The computer don't detect any sound. Offcourse?I have selected the microphone in the recordering section in the Windows volume panel and the volume at maxium. Also in the volume panel under playback the microphone is not mute, set to max volume. I have also installed WinXP 32bits and here it works OK with exactly the same settings. Thats why I think it is because of my Soundcard driver, I have installed the latest driver from this site. I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality. Is there anyone with a X-Fi soundcard with the same problem or anyone where the microphone works in WinXP 64bit's Or is it a known problem? Please help me
Hi Theicewarrior,?Creative support has been aware of this issue for quite some time (6+ months, maybe even a year). The 4GB+?RAM driver/addressing issues are not a priority or they would have been addressed quite some time ago.
Presumably this is due to functional Vista drivers for the masses being a higher priority than the relati'vely few of us with 4GB+ RAM and an X-Fi.
While the X-Fi?is a great card, my only wish was that the vendor was forthright about this product not functioning with certain configurations. It is my feeling that?making an effort to help?customers choose?products that will work with their configurations would result in satisfied and repeat customers?and a better bottom line?as opposed to?eeking a few extra dollars out of a slightly larger customer base and?who are then left unsatisfied with a product and unwilling to buy a company's products in the future.Message Edited by Foddan on 07-9-20070:45 AM -
Microphone does not work in Facetime
Hi
I read other posts and in Maverik I didn't find simmilar problem, for most people their microphone does not work after few minutes, but in my case, microphone does not work at all in Facetime, so I can hear the other end, but they can not hear me! This happened after updating Mavericks.
My Mac specs:
Macbook Pro 2013
OSx 10.9.1 (Mavericks)
things I already tested:
I tried to use headphone and without headphone, but it didn't make any difference
Microphone works fine in Skype and other softwares (Audacity, YahooMessenger, etc.)
Tried with WiFi and with Ethernet cable
Internet speed is 2.3MBps
Router's firewall does not have any restriction for certain ports
Tried turning facetime Off and On
Tried to call iPhone 5s, iPad2 and MacBook Pro each in different network and different countries!
... and finally searching internet for hours (which obviously came up with nothing)
I'll be thankful if somebody help me through, all suggestions are welcome, so please don't hesitate to post.Same issue here....
8-core Mac Pro, Lion, Original External iSight camera connected via FireWire 400 through the FireWire jack on the 23" Apple Cinema Display.
Audio and video work fine using iChat and making video clips through any/all apps.
However, using FaceTime.....incoming audio and video are fine, outgoing video is fine, but outgoing audio is missing. Nobady can hear me.
Sorry guys...you can't doll this one up or spin it in any other direction......it's a bug pure and simple.
Feel free to fix it whilst you're dealing with all the other problems that Lion has.

My microphone does not work on calls on my iPhone 4
Don't ask me what has happened and I have been through all of the troubleshooting that I can on my own.
I have no clue how to get a hold of a LIVE AT&T person or APPLE person.
The problem is my microphone does not work when I use the telephone, whether I make the call or someone calls me. It is NOT the MUTE button. And yes, I have already rebooted my iPhone about 5 times now. Has not fixed it either.
But the microphone DOES work as I was able to record a new voicemail greeting to let people know my phone isn't working.
So, they could call me all day long but they won't hear me, so who do I call using my landline (thankfully I kept it).
It is the day after Thanksgiving and I would be a fool to head over to the Apple Store or the AT&T Store....
Thank-you,
MarciaTry disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.
Take a look at this Apple document for more information -> iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
