My Microsoft Office Suite has disappeared and none of my files will open. What do I do?

I opened up my iMac this morning and for some reason my Microsoft Office suite for Mac had completely disappeared with no trace. Consequently, I can't open any Word related files that I have saved (a box opens saying that Word cannot be found and to re-install it). Unfortunately, I can't find my original software as I have moved recently.
Any suggestions? Do I have to buy a new Office package?

You can restore from your backup however you may need the software key that comes with the original software. If you have not been backing up well now you see why you are supposed to!

Sorry, darned auto correct. Sleep and home. The home is the button on the front of your iPad. The sleep button is also the power down button. It's on the upper right edge of your iPad.
My apologies for the typo. My keyboard is charging and the onscreen keyboard and I don't get along well.

Restart your iPad, press the home button and lock button for 10 seconds...
Or delete your apps and download again

  • Installing Microsoft Office Suite, and error message re: StuffIt Expander

    Hi,
I recently tried to install Microsoft Office Suite (Office2001-906UpdateEN.bin) on my computer, but keep getting an error message saying "Sorry, but this version of StuffIt Expander requires version 6.5 or newer of the StuffIt Engine. Error -43" I have StuffIt Lite 6.5.1 in my Applications folder, which includes StuffIt Expander. However, when I try opening StuffIt Expander, I get an identical error message. Can anyone help?
(FYI, since erasing my hard disk and reinstalling my applications recently, I've experienced other problems, too, such as AppleWorks' spell-check function not working, and MacLink no longer being available. I don't know if any of these problems are related -- and/or if I just made mistakes in reinstalling?)
    Thanks.

    Hi, Elizabeth -
You should be able to download the newer version of Stuffit Expander, since downloading does not involve unstuffing. Once the download has been received, your browser may be trying to invoke the version of Stuffit Expander that's on your drive in order to automatically unstuff it for you - and that's what is causing the message to be displayed.
Look for the uncompressed download, probably in a .sit or .sit.hqx format.
Then insert your latest OS 9 Install CD, and locate the Aladdin Software folder. For install CDs for OS 9.1 and later, that will here - (CD) >> Software Installers >> Aladdin Software. For install CDs for OS 9.0.4 and earlier, it will be here - (CD) >> Software Installers >> Internet Access >> Aladdin Software. Dig into the Aladdin Software folder, and you'll find an uncompresssed copy of Stuffit Expander, v. 5.5 or v. 6.0. Copy that version to the Hard drive.
Then drag the icon of the freshly downloaded (and still compressed) newer version of Stuffit Expander onto the icon of the older version of Stuffit Expander, and let go when the icon highlights - it should then be decompressed without problem.
Once that is done, run the installer for the new version.

I'm curious how you are running this code within excel as I would expect you would've had to write a dll to expose the SDK as COM in order to be able to access it from an excel document.

Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice ($10)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

    Hello,
There are some Microsoft product like Windows Phone 7 Connector on the Mac App Store but for the moment Office is not there.
In an interview last year Microsoft’s Amanda Lefebvre told Mobilized : “It’s something we are looking at”.

If you have applications like iWork or the free OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) you will be able to read files created by Microsoft Office.

  • Does iWork for iOS allow me to open and edit documents created in the Microsoft Office suite?

    Hi all,
I have just purchased an iPad 2 32Gb. I want to be able to use it for work.
I need to be able open and edit documents created in Microsoft Office. Primarily .doc and .docx files. Is this possible? or am I better with D2 or Documents to Go.
Also, can I save a document attachment from an email and open it on my iPad for reviewing and editing?
    Cheers

Yes, "pages.app" will open these files. In the same manner "numbers.app" will open xls, xlsx and "keynote.app" will open powerpoint files.
iwork09 files from a Mac can also be opened. And you can save each files back in various file formats, also save them  as pdf.
Also, can I save a document attachment from an email and open it on my iPad for reviewing and editing?
Yes. "open in .." then a suitable app is in the list : say you get a docx, then pages will be presented as app to open it.
    Cheers

    Enjoy it.

  • After installing Lion, my microsoft office suite doesn't work anymore, and show this message: Application Power PC no longer available. How can I resolve it?

Is there any possibilty to recover the use of my Microsoft Office suite, which doesn't work anymore after installing Lion?
The programs display this error message: "no puede abrir la aplicación Microsoft Excel (o any other) porque las aplicaciones Power PC ya no son compatibles"
    thanks for your help

You will need to upgrade your suite of MS programs.
Older suites, like MS Office 2004, use program versions written for Macs with PPC processors. In order to use those apps in pre-Lion OS's on an Intel-processor machine, it was necessary to install Rosetta, software designed just for the purpose of using PPC-apps on an Intel machine.
Unfortunately, Lion does not support Rosetta, so those apps no longer work.
Solution - update them to a version which will work in Lion, such as the MS Office 2008 suite, or newer if available.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 has stopped working

Please can you help?  My PC is running Windows 8 Professional Plus 64 bit.  I downloaded and installed Microsoft Office 2013 32 bit and it worked perfectly until I changed my graphics card to an Asus Radeon HD6450 Silent.  Since then, all
the programmes, Outlook, Word, Excel etc. have stopped working.  I have Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit installed as well and that is still working fine.
I have tried removing COM Add-ins and have also repaired MS Office 2013 but neither have worked.  I have read the KB article but the driver dlumd32.dll does not appear to be installed on my machine.  All the applications will run in Safe Mode.
I have uninstalled Office 2013 and re-installed it but at the end of the installation I got the ‘Microsoft Office has stopped working’ message.

    Hi Lesley,
By checking the event log you provided, it seems this problem also occurs with Internet Explorer, isn't it?
And most of them are related to the atidxx32.dll file, I'd suggest we remove the graphics driver and see if this problem will still occur, if no, try to install any ohter version of graphics driver to see if this problem will still occur.

  • Installing Microsoft Office:mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition

I am trying to install Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition.
I don't know how to achieve this.
I have tried the Office Setup Assistant but it says "You can't open the application "Office Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, I assume I have to do the "Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to your hard disk to install all Office components" option.
Being very new to iMac, my question is, "Where exactly do I drag it to?  Which icon along the bottom or should it go somewhere else?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

It will not work with Mountain Lion. You need Office 2011 for OS X.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution before buying.  I did not try the launch terminal solution....
I will check back so I can find out what to do should this happen again.
More possible bad news.  If you had followed what fane_j had asked you to do you might have found out it wasn't microsoft's fault for your problem and wouldn't have had to spend $150.  Because while you may have an Office that works, fane_j was not suggesting a solution but probing for a trojan (google "flashback trojan") that has been crashing powerpc code which is what Office 2004 is.
So if you do have the trojan, while you can run a version of Office, the trojan may still be in your system since installing a version of Office isn't going to remove it.  So I'll make another request.  Launch Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and copy/paste the following line into the terminal window and hit return:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
If you see anything other than a "does not exist" error message you almost certainly do have the trojan and post the results in this thread.
The choice is yours.  You can ignore this and take the risk.  Or do what has been requested.

  • What happened to the Microsoft Office suite when I loaded Lion?

I loaded Lion operating system last night and rushed without reading all of the fine print. After the Lion was loaded I received a notice that Microsoft Office Suite was not supported. My questions are, 1) Can Lion support the Microsoft Office Suites (maybe a newer version) 2) Can I return to the previous Operating System?
    Never mind!
    Thanks

    1. Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 & 2011 versions support OS X Lion
    2. Yes, you can downgrade to Snow Leopard if you have up-to-date Time Machine backups, however I won't recommend you to do that.
Over the weekend Microsoft published a knowledge base article that outlines some known issues with Office for Mac on OS X 10.7. Overall, if you have Office 2004 and rely on it, then do not upgrade to OS X Lion until you have an alternative Office version installed (2008 or preferably 2011). Office 2004 is PowerPC code, and as with Intuit's Quicken 2007 and earlier versions, if you install Lion then you will not be able to launch Office 2004.
