I have a problem with Word running under Yosemite. I have installed 14.4.5, reinstalled Office twice, and reinstalled the update. Excel and PowerPoint will run but Word still show me the word logo crashes and sends a report to Microsoft. Office setup will not open either.
I then I reformatted the disk again and started over with 10.6 then upgrades to Yosemite. then I have a network download version of office and did a new install. Word still won't open but the weird part is excel and PP work.

  • Microsoft Word 2010 won't open?

When I try to open my Microsoft Word 2010 a message comes up saying 'Microsoft Word 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in Control Panel.' However, when I go to the control panel Microsoft Word 2010 is no longer listed there. I've never
uninstalled or modified the file so I don't understand how it can just have disappeared??

Was Word loaded as an individual product or part of the Office suite? In other words, do you have Excel 2010 and PowerPoint 2010 and do they open?
If Word was loaded as part of the Office suite then it will not be listed individually in the Control Panel.  With
Control Panel > Programs and Features it will show as Microsoft Office <package> 2010.
Either way, it sounds like you need to just get the install CD and reload.
If you are then prompted to Repair you can do it that way, or simply Remove and then Install.
    Hope this helps

  • Software 'Myphotobook' won't open on my MacBook Pro

I've been using 'myphotobook' to create photo albms for years. I've started a new photobook but can't access it to finish it as the app won't open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck.

You need to contact the makers of that app for support.

  • Just Updated to 10.9.5 Now iPhoto 8.1.2 Won't Open-Microsoft Word & Excel Won't Open

I have a MacBook Pro now running 10.9.5
I updated last night to the 10.9.5 version and after doing so my iLife applications stop working: iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand
My Microsoft Word and Excel stop working as well.
Every time i try to open these applications i get error and they just won't open.
" iPhoto quit unexpectedly wile using the iPhoto plug-in"
I get this same message for all my applications.
I tried getting help from Apple and all they really told me was that I may need to update to my iPhoto by paying $15 bucks.
I'm upset that my applications have all failed me only after updating to new 10.9.5
This update was done at 10:30PM, all day my Microsoft Apps and iPhoto app were working fine and now I'm out of luck?

iLife 11 is only available thru 3rd party retailers like Amazon.com or eBay.com.  That will install iPhoto 9.0 and you can get to 9.4.3 vis these updaters:
1 - update to iPhoto 9.2.1 - you may be able to go from here directly to 9.4.3
    2 - update to iPhoto 9.3
    3 - update to iPhoto 9.3.2
    4 - update to iPhoto 9.4
    5 - and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3

I had installed OSX latest version some months ago and there was no problem with opening all documents in words.
Just today I can open the word document but stalled and could not edit as there is a rolling icon (processing) appeared.
I did remove the word program by using my MacKeeper software remove installed program.
Then I insert the Microsoft Office 2011 original CD to reinstall the microsoft office again.
Before the crash and after the reinstallation both My Excel and Powerpoint are doing ok .. can
be opened and used to edit ppt and xls documents.
Before the word program removed .. when I opened the word document just appeared
"opening normal dot" message.  This had never happened before the stalled opened

what am I supposed to do to ? I try to googling the topic but can not find the exact similar incident in google search
results. Is this some kind of a virus attack ? Does anyone can recommend any solutions that work?
Thankyou so much for your sharing and suggestions.

I am running Word for Mac v 14.2.0 quite happily on my iMac 27" running Maverick 10.9.4.
Possibly it is due to issues with your Retina screen? The obvious first step is to update Word to the latest version.
Virus attacks are not the first guess on a Mac. I have never ever had one nor even been able to locate any malware for well over a decade. Word can harbour Macro viruses but I thought that the Mac version of Word didn't do macros.
Either way this is not the place to get your answers. Pages is not Word. Use Microsft's support forums for their software.

  • Microsoft Word 2004 won't open in Leopard

I downloaded Leopard and everything went well and I used Microsoft Word a few times, then suddenly it won't open anymore.
I'm not sure if I downloaded something that's incompatible with it? Or something else happened? It won't let me update it and when I try to open it the words "The application Word quit unexpectedly" appear almost immediately. I checked my permissions, I checked the hard drive, but couldn't find the root of the problem.
    Someone please help!

How did you "download" Leopard since it is not available that way? You have to buy Leopard unless it came installed on your hardware when you purchased it.
After you did the Leopard update did you update Office to the latest version? If not use the Auto update feature built in to it and download and install all the updates. It does them one at a time so you may have to do 5-6 downloads to get them all.
If that does not work then I would uninstall Office using the uninstaller that is on the CD and reinstall it then bring it up to date.

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • Some Of My Apps Like AppStore and Software Update won't open on my MacBook Pro

some of my major softwares like AppStore and SoftwareUpdate and ,,,, are not working!!!
    please help
(I'm using Mavericks and Cant upgrade it!)

    A.
You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
    B.
"Kerio Control" must be updated, reinstalled, or removed.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Safari won't open on my macbook pro and freezes.

The browser opens but the page is blank, if i try and do anything it freezes straight away and i have to force quit does anyone know how to fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
