My mini i-pad home button is unresponsive

The home button on my 1 year old mini i-pad is totally unresponsive. It seemed to happen after I downloaded a software update (sorry, not sure of the edition).
Looking on the web I've tried various tricks such as holding the button down whilst slowly moving from landscape to portrait mode. I've also tried pressing the power off switch until red segment disappears, then pressing hold. I should add at this point that users recommend that a "standard" application should be selected first - this is impossible as the home screen can not be accessed. The button is not physically stuck and the i-pad has not suffered a fall.
Come on guys, you technophiles out there must have a solution for me!

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds)
No data will be lost.

  • My ipad2's home button is unresponsive..followed instructions for restoring and still the home button is unresponsive...

my ipad2's home button is unresponsive i called support and they emailed instructions  for backup and restore....this did not solve the problem...now what?

I don't know whether this solves your problem, however, I did temporally disconnect from FaceTime. That at least solved mine, where I also had my iPad 2 responding very sluggishly to any kind of input (incl. hardware buttons). The problem was persistent over several reboots, so it had to be something with deeper connections into the OS.

  • Home Button goes unresponsive when iPad locks, accompanied with Safari crashes

As the title says, I've taken notice that my iPad is slowly deteriorating performance wise. Safari has been increasing crashes over the past week, to the point where I think something is up if it DOESN'T crash within the last 10-30mins. The browser will freeze, and boot me out to the Home Screen.
I am now at the point where, once my iPad goes black after not fiddling with it for awhile, the Home Button will not bring me to the Lock Screen unless I double click it for the mini-music controls to appear. These things seem to have started appearing only after I updated to the latest iOS 5.0.1 update.
My iPad has suffered no outside trauma, the battery rarely gets to less than 5% life, and I've disabled unneeded and unused features, such as many of the Spotlight Searches. I do however, keep roughly 6-8 tabs open in Safari regularly, as I like to hop tabs as my attention span demands lol (that in itself may be the reason for the browser crashes..).
Does anyone else seem to have any similar issues, or know that it might be a firmware/hardware problem that is documented somewhere? I have seen other threads about unresponsive iPads/iPhones but nothing that matches my problem specifically.

I'm hoping I wont have to get to that point. But thats what its looking like its coming to. I haven't come across anyone else with the issue.

  • Home Button Becoming Unresponsive

Ive had my iPod Touch 4th Generation for over a year now and the home button is beginning to stop working. It only works about half the time and even than, I must apply a fair amount of pressure to get a response. Is there any way I can fix this myself, do i have to get the piece replaced, or must get a whole new decive?

i would make a genius bar appointment (it's free) and see what they would do they will give you a free refurbished one and take the old one but see what apple would do you can also set up asistive touch and when you draw something on the screen it will direct you to the home screen it can be set up in settings>general>accessibility

  • HT1349 My home button is unresponsive, what do i do?

Havent tried very much other then clicking it a couple times. Im scared to mess with it. What do i do other then Restore it?

    Hi
If after the restore the home button is still not responsive then take it to (a) where you purchased it from and explain the problem or (b) your nearest Apple Repair Specialist/Reseller or (c) Apple Genius Bar.
If the unit is still under warranty and assuming the problem has not developed because of wilful or accidental damage, they'll repair it for you under the terms of the warranty. If the unit is out of warranty they should quote you a repair price. Make your choice thereafter.

  • HT201412 the home button is unresponsive

the home button does not respond when pushed. usually takes 4-5 times for it to respond or go back

I know this won't fix the home button but you could, until you have apple fix it for you, go to settings/general/accessibility/ assistive touch and turnit on.  A dot will appear on the screen that you can drag around and it gives you most of th functions of the home button

  • My home button is unresponsive.  Any advise?

Press home button.  Will not go to home screen.

    There's two choice,
First choice is, you have to go and fix it.
Second is, you use "Asssistive Touch".
Which is virtual home screen button.
You can on it by following this steps :-
    1) Go "Settings"
    2) Click "General"
    3) Then click "Accessibility"
    4) Search for "Assistive Touch"
    5) And your done ! have fun ^^

  • Home button is unresponsive

Everytime I try to exit an app for some reason the home button never seems to work, do you's know why?

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults.
Does it feel like something is preventing the button from being depressed?

  • Home Button Sometimes Unresponsive in certain angles.

Hi, I'm Ariv. This is regarding my Ipod Touch 4 generation. My home button was fine from the first day i got it ( 7th of April 2012 ) until 2 weeks ago. Now my home button is sometimes not responsive or can only be pressed in certain angles. While i was exploring the answer to the problem myself, i found this forum    ( http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/37013/how-can-i-make-my-ipod-touch-home -button-more-responsive ) which say that Apple will replace the iPod Touch because it is faulty- I AM AWARE THAT IT IS NOT AN OFFICAL APPLE FORUM. Well, i just want to confirm that is this a known problem and WOULD Apple replace my product for free or not because the Ipod Touch 4th generation is old. I hope Apple will replace THIS Ipod Touch because it was my birthday present. Thanks in advance for anyone answering or responding to this question. Thank you very much.

I am not aware of an out-of-warranty program for that problem. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and discuss it with them.

  • Home button completely unresponsive since upgrading my 3.1 3G to iOS4

At first I thought it was just being terribly slow, like the rest of complaints.
If is started any app, I would not be able to get back the home screen, unless I turn the phone off and on again.
This happened immediately after the update to 4.01

    Just an update.
I went to the Apple Store in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was told I had to buy a new iPhone.
What kind of scam is this?
Apple nags me update my iPhone software, and when I do, it breaks my phone.
The fix is for ME to buy a new iPhone.

    - Also if necessary try placing the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs

    If necessary:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Home button unresponsive after iOS 7.1 update (iPhone 5)

    Hi,
I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 on Monday. But today (Thursday) my home button suddenly unresponsive. The phone had been working normally until now when I was on FaceTime and tried to view my home screen but couldn't.
Turning the phone off/on doesn't fix it. Once I turn off the phone and turn it back on, I can see the homepage and enter any app but I can't escape that app without shutting down the phone again.
Also, there is no damage to the phone/home button in any way (physical, water, etc.) I can't reset the phone because, you know, the home button won't respond.
How can I remedy this?  Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the same problem and kept playing around with the phone and doing internet searches. This seems to have fixed the problem.  I went to Settings, General, Accessibility and then Home-Click Speed. I changed from Default to Slow.

  • Shutdown ipad mini without using touchscreen or Home button

    Hi,
My touchscreen got broken and while repairing that their was some issue(touch not working), HOME button is also not working.
Now in order to fix my touchscreen I have to shutdown it.
How do I shutdown iPad mini  ?  [Touchscreen , Home button both not working]
Is their a way from iTunes ?
    Any other way out.
    Thanks,

The Home button does not shut down the iPad. Use the button on the side of the iPad.
Normally I'd recommend that you have an Apple technician take a look at your device but it seems you have voided the ability to have Apple service your iPad by having someone disassemble it.
