My mini ipod won't switch on or charge

My mini ipod won't switch on or charge. I have tried charging it several ways - via the pc, plug and incar charger but no luck. The pc does not recognise the ipod. I have tried toggling the hold switch. The usb ports on the pc are ok.
The last thing that I did with the ipod was detached from the pc when it had the message to do not disconnect.
Can anyone help
thanks
Anne-Marie

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • New iPod, won't get recognised or charge.

I rcently (today, as a matter of fact) got a replacement iPod.
I had all the necessary software installed, plugged in the iPod, and formatted it.
Then a window appeared and told me to connect it to an external device of sorts (charger, I guess. Can't remember the exact lettering), which I did; once I plugged the charger in, I got an Apple icon, and then a folder with an exclamation mark, with a link to Apple's support site underneath.
I followed the instructions, updated the software, and plugged the iPod back in; it showed the same folder.
The computer showed no signs of recognition.
I disconnected it (no usual "do not disconnect" message appeared, obviously), tried the charger again, and this time got no message at all.
I'm either doing something wrong, or I need to head back to the shop and get a second replacement. Which would be a bummer.
What would help? The bloody thing won't switch on or even charge. NOTHING appears on the screen. >_<

If you can't get anything to show on the screen, then there's really nothing more you can do. It's dead. Try plugging it into a charger before you give up.
And if you can get it to at least turn on, you can try forcing it into Disk Mode before connecting it to the computer, as it says here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
The normal process is that you Update or Restore it, it requests power, you plug it into a charger, then it reboots with the Apple logo and you see a bar moving across the bottom of the screen as it updates.
If you didn't see that bar, and just got the folder with an exclamation, then it's quite likely your iPod has a serious disk error that you can't fix. Exchange it.

  • IPod won't work off the charger

My 4th Gen iPod won't work when it's not connected to the charger.  As soon as you remove it from the power source it shuts down.  I have updated to the latest iOS and it's been restored.  This corrected the issue for about 24hrs then it was back to random shut down and now it won't work at all.
Suggestions or does it need to go visit an Apple Store ?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • IPod won't turn on or charge AT ALL

    My iPod:
    8 gb
    4th gen (w/ camera)
    NOT jailbroken
    One year old
I bought it last September (2010) and my warranty just expired. Seriously, two weeks after the warranty ended, my iPod failed to turn on one RANDOM day at a very RANDOM moment.
I own four iPod chargers (USB and Wall) and none of them charged my iPod. All four plugs work because I have an old classic iPod and all plugs charge it fine. When I plugged it in, nothing on the screen showed up. I tried letting it charge for two days, and it never turned on. I held down the Power and Home button together and for the first couple of times, it showed the red battery w/ the "need to charge" sign underneath. However, after holding down both buttons a few times, the iPod won't even budge at all.
It's the black screen of death. PLEASE HELP ME!!
    What doesn't work for me:
    won't charge at all
    plugs aren't the problem
holding down the home button (and the power button together) doesn't work -- no apple appears, nothing! even after holding it for 1 minute
doesn't even turn on -- nothing shows up on the screen!!!

    - After being connecting to a charging source for one hour, try resetting the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Then connect to your computer. If iTunes sees the iPod restore via iTunes.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow you to restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • Mini Ipod won't turn on! Reset not working! Help!

I had not charged my ipod since I was away from home. Got home and plugged the USB into the Ipod. Next morning, noticed the Ipod blinking the apple sign and it would not turn on. I let the Ipod drain for 2 days. Now it's no longer blinking the Apple sign when I plug in the USB, but now it will show any sign of life at all. When USB plugged, I hear a soft beeping noise from the Ipod. Tried resetting Ipod holding Menu and Select for 6-10 seconds several times, no luck. Tried updating the Ipod, but it's not recognizing Ipod when it's plugged in (It says to plug in Ipod, when it already is plugged in). I restarted PC 2x and plugged USB into all three different ports. USB ports working since I can transfer pictures from my digital camera using the USB ports. HELP! What else can I try before I take into an Apple store? I didn't pruchase it at Apple, rather, I purchased it at Circuit City less than 6 months ago. I can't go through the service on line since it's not recognizing my serial number.

thanks!! i tried that this past weekend and i thought it worked. i didn't get home yet so i couldn't update my ipod. so i attempted to use it. it worked for awhile and then during some songs it will say the battery is dead and die on me. i tried resetting it but it didn't work. it was fully charged, and now it won't turn on. this time, no blinking apple sign, but when i plug it in to my usb, it makes that same sound. i don't have an ac charger and used my sisters. so now, i guess i have to try again? any other ideas? they are greatly appreciated!

  • My Ipod won't switch on

It died a few weeks ago and after a couple of days just came back to life.  It has happened again (2 days ago).  There has been no drops/accidents or anything catastrophic - why is this happening?

Could be a hardware probem ir software problem. If itr stillhappens after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that oints to a hardware problem.
If it happens again try the following:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPOD WON'T TURN ON OR CHARGE

I've been using my iPod with the USB input on my new Honda Civic. It was specifically made for iPod, and my model (120GB) meets the compatibility requirements. All was working perfectly until tonight when the dashboard simply displayed the word "unsupported". I tried unsuccessfully to turn on the device manually, but nothing happened. I thought maybe it needed to be charged, although the dealer told me it would charge while connected to the car. However after an hour in the cradle at home and a half-hour connected to this computer, it still won't turn on. When plugged into the computer I heard the little USB connect sound, but the device doesn't show up in iTunes or as a drive on my PC. What happened, and how do I fix it?

I had to learn how to reset it and only then would it successfully charge up. It seems that the car dealer was incorrect when he told me that connecting to the car's USB cable would recharge it. I tried it this morning in the car and it worked. Thanks for the fix.

  • TS3183 ipad won't switch on or charge

Help, my Ipad 1 won't come to life, have plugged it in to charge and there is no sign of life, have checked the charger on my ipod and it works fine so I know it isn't the charger. it was working a couple of days ago and just seems to of died.  HELP!!

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My iPod won't power up or charge

My iPod touch won't charge or power up.  I haven't used it in a couple of years or so, I have no idea what OS it is using or seriel number of anything.

  • My iPod won't turn on or charge after being dead and smashed for over a year!

I Dropped my iPod 5th gen over a year or two ago, it smashed. I left it in my drawer for a while and it died, when I go to charge it nothing happens, there is no sign of it turning on or even charging, what do I do now?

Connect the iPod for at least 15min to the adapter, then try to connect in recovery mode, explained in this article:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
If this does not work, you'll have to get it replaced by paying the Out-Of-Warranty-Service fee:
    iPod touch 16 GB (5th gen. Mid 2013) $99
    iPod touch 16 GB (5th gen.) $99
    iPod touch 32 GB (5th gen.) $149
    iPod touch 64 GB (5th gen.) $149

  • Ipod won't recognise, sync, or charge!

the other day, i realised my ipod was flat out of battery, so i plugged it into my computer and then left it, assuming that it would charge.. like usual! so i checked up on it 5 minutes later.. and to my horror, the ipod had heated up, it wasnt on, nor was it charging! so i immediately unplugged it. hours later i decided to charge it with the wall charger. it charged perfectly, so today i tried to sync it, but unfortunately, it wasnt syncing, charging, let alone windows recognising my ipod. i tried with 3 different cables, nothing was coming up! i even tried connecting another ipod to the pc, the other ipod worked, however my one still wasnt being recognised!
i have tried using the menu + select button method, and the putting to hard disk method. nothing has been working so far
please help! i really want this ipod to update with my songs!

  • Encore Mini 7" won't turn on or charge

I got this Toshiba Encore Mini 7" and I opend it as a Christmas present. When I unwrapped it I opened it tried turning it on it didn't so I decided to charge it I waited for like 3 hours and didn't turn on. Any suggestions? Thank you

Well I never saw anything like this before (from WT7 Quick Start):"USB Charge – In “sleep or shutdown mode,” you can charge your tablet byconnecting the USB power cable to your tablet and the USB port on yourcomputer. Please make sure your computer is turned ON while charging viaUSB. If your computer is turned OFF, depending on computer specifications, the tablet battery may discharge. We recommend that you do not use yourtablet while charging via USB as auto shutdown may occur if the batterycharge is too low." From User's Guide:"Power button—Turns the device on and off. Press and hold the button for several seconds to turn the deviceON/OFF. Press the button quickly to wake the device from Sleep mode or to place it into Sleep mode."
