My mixer is triggering midi keyboard

I'm not sure what changed and what caused this to start happening, but for some reason my mixer is triggering sounds from my keyboard (which has a built in speaker). For example, when I press "Play" or "Stop" or anything else on my mixer, it triggers my keyboard to play a certain note. It's almost like they're are synced in a way which I could actually play the keyboard (poorly) through my mixer. But I don't want this to be happening at all. How can I fix this?

  • I record a midi keyboard track and it sounds fine as Im recording it, however, it won't play back in time no matter what I do, seems awfully useless to have all these "great software instruments" and not even be able to use them, one problem after another

I record a midi keyboard track along with a song, it sounds great, then, when i go to mix, playback, the midi track is behind the beat and out of sync.. i've tried every setting I can think of.. the strangest thing is that I've used this exact keyboard in the past with this exact computer, running the same version of logic pro, and it worked fine, now it just doesn't work.. it seems an awful waste to have all these "great software instruments" but they are essentially useless now... it is beyond frustrating to have this so-called "great technology" that doesn't even work and to spend more time TRYING to get it to work than actually doing some work with it...

After re-reading the first post, I don't think it would be quantize, either, sorry about that.
There are a couple more places to look:
Look at the highlights, one is for track, one is for region.  Notice how I have it on MIDI thru (top part).  That has a delay value.  When you select a region, you can have a different value there, as well.  Also, the Track part has a place with a delay value.  These are three delay values that are in addition to the audio preference Recording delay.

  • Problems with M-Audio Keystation 49e midi keyboard after 10.4.7 upgrade

I've noticed a problem with my midi keyboard and GB3 after this most recent OS upgrade. You start playing the keyboard using some instrument such as Grand Piano. After a while there is no sound coming out. You must turn off/on the keyboard, then it starts working again. Sometimes its not as easy, and it requires shutting down GB and restarting. This morning I had to actually reboot the machine before I could get any sound.
This is really a pain in the neck. My son is trying to practice his piano and keeps having to power cycle the keyboard every 5 minutes.
Any suggestions? This has happened before the OS upgrade, but it just seems to be happening more in the past few days.
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

To clarify my early post, I don't care for the feel of the controller, I own one as a back up, it sits around and always works perfect (plus it takes no drivers!) every time I plug it in. My friend has had one for a couple years as his main controller and recently it has started to give some ghost midi signals while recording (unintentional pitch and mod animations while recording) I was at another place recently where we had one that would not respond at all, 1 mac desktop, 1 powerbook and 1 dell laptop. All around I see this keyboard everywhere and it works fine for almost everyone on every computer, plus the one I own is perfect. But I have had some mixed results in my personal experiences with the device. I would be surprised if this device has developed an issue because of the mac os update, that sounds like a coincidence in my opinion because the device is "class compliant" and does not require drivers; but that is my opinion and a SWAG (the term SWAG is property of hangtime and borrowed, I hope HT takes no offense)

  • I do not see the user interface for the Logic software instruments. I can hear them play through my midi keyboard but I cannot see them to adjust parameters. Please advise.

I do not see the user interface for the Logic Pro software instruments. I can hear them play through my midi keyboard but cannot see them to adjust the parameters. Please advise.

Couple of things - you can open the interface for any instrument or plug-in by double-clicking its insert slot on the channel strip. You can configure Logic to automatically open the interface for a plug-in when you first instantiate it in the preferences. Go to Logic Pro > Preferences > Display > Mixer, and check the box for "Open plug-in window on insertion".

  • Need advice on midi keyboards

I took the plunge into Logic Pro. Overly overwhelming... even with the tutorial.
Anyway, I am progressing. I'm going to need a midi keyboard to fully use this program. Most of my "bass" tracks will come from this.
I am a guitarist, mostly. On a keyboard, I can play some chords and do the very basics.
I'm think that most of the creativity will be coming from the guitar, so how much of a keyboard do I really need? Plus I can probably get very creative with something basic like the M-Audio Keystation 49.
However, I am drawn to the Novation Remote 25 Keyboard. But I look at it and realize that the reason I gave up my digital 12 track in the first place is because all of the knobs and buttons weren't naturally intuitive. And this device has a fair number of knobs and buttons. Plus it looks like it has a recording feature, but why would I need that? Why do I need a lot of the features if I have Logic?
I cannot think of a reason to spend an extra $250 on the Novation, but I'm still leaning that way. Can someone tell me if a guitarist/novice keyboardist has any business with anything other than a very basic keyboard?
Honestly, I'd like to be a little keyboard/synth heavy. I like some of Nine Inch Nails use of synths. The music can be a little on the heavy side, but that's the closest thing synth-wise I'm drawn towards. I also like Beck's use of them as well. Somewhere between Beck and NIN, lol. Now I'm sure they use the finest gear on the planet, but I wonder with Logic's capabilities if I wasn't able to do comparable work with a simple M-Audio Keystation.
Those are the two I've whittled it down to: Novation 25 and M-Audio 49
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Price is a factor. I can afford the $350 for the Novation Remote 25 Keyboard, but it won't be very comfortable.
What if I just went with the M-Audio and tried it out a while? Then all I'm out is the $105. Or should I just get the more advanced machine now?
    Thanks again,
    Tom

    day,
i purchased an m-audio keystation 88 in a rush. of the sub $500 88 key controllers in the store, it felt the best. before this i was totally pleased with my roland u-20 (except i wanted more keys). i'm a lil' unhappy with something about the keystation, but i haven't pinpointed it yet. perhaps, i'm not used to a semi-weighted. perhaps, the keys are a lil' loud for what i'm used to, but maybe this is normal in a semi-weighted.
    my 1 cent.
but then again, 88 keys, bare minimum footprint, $200. (& in the store, it felt better than m-audio's $500 88 key many faders option.) having some extra keys, besides the ones you're using to play in sounds can be useful for triggering things, or key-switching samples, etc....
The only 88 key that felt better at the West LA store was ~$1300. The Yamahas. Now, those have a nice feel. But, I only need a controller.
it seems that somewhere (on your keyboard, or in a separate unit, you're going to want a few (or many) faders and knobs -- so keep that in mind
    btw, i'm a keyboard player -- & picky.
(& if i get my act together, i was planning on selling this 2 month old, barely used m-audio keystation 88.)
(if i've violated a rule by poorly plugging a sale, someone let me know.)

  • Can I use my iPad 2 with Mainstage 2 as a mixing surface for my keyboard rig?

How do I use ipad2 with mainstage as a mixing surface for my keyboard rig?

    Hi Capp 543:
I don't really use it any more live, mainly because I use my iPad for reading music and don't want to switch around apps. I'm not part of the company, but I'll try.
IMO the iRig manual is way way too simplistic.
I am attaching some jpeg's of what helped me solve it, though it was tough. If it doesn't open, search Audio Midi Setup help for "sharing midi data over a network". You have to create a wireless session using Audio/Midi setup, OR create an "ad hoc" network using bluetooth if there's no wi-fi (another set of problems...). This may be your issue. There are a few things beyond getting the wireless network appearing that you have to do, that's why I'm suggesting this even though you did it, or a part of it.
    In particular:
"Anyone" has to be set as who can connect to me in the lower left of the wireless midi setup screen, and
First get everything else ready, meaning the iPad connecting, THEN LiveRig has to be launched from closed, meaning do an icon hold and close in down iPad, then open it up for it to connect, when everything else is ready. for some reason that helped me.
In MainStage, you of course need to go to the MainStage #1 Setup screen, drag in sliders, then "learn" them to the LiveRig, which should now be seen when you click "learn" and move a Liverig slider. I have a vague recollection about not seeing iRig in the MainStage #1 top left device window, but then   going into the drop-down menu there where the device shoudl be, selecting it, then learning the sliders. Then in the #2 Edit window you assign the sliders etc.
I would suggest first connecting it via midi wires and getting it to work, which will help you decide if a problem is in the wi-fi or somewhere else when you go to connect it up with wi-fi. You'd need the Apple Camera Connection kit adaptor. I myself would alway run it via midi if I'm playing live, too many unknowns with unknown networks.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mixing down - lost MIDI tracks

    Hi
I have just started using GarageBand over the past couple of months. I have figured out all about locking tracks etc - or so I thought. I can get all the tracks to run fine (real audio and MIDI). The only thing is that when I export to iTunes, a couple of the MIDI tracks can be lost. Why???
It all seems quite random. My MIDI keyboard is connected. And all the tracks are locked for mixing down. (Did I need to have the keyboard connected at the moment when I locked the tracks, maybe?) The funny thing is, on some songs I am hearing all the tracks, MIDI included.
    So, baffled...

You don't need to have the keyboard connected for exporting the mix: and you don't need the tracks to be locked - that is to make it easier for the CPU to handle the load with a lot of tracks.
As to the missing tracks, forgive me for asking, but are you sure you didn't click the mute button instead of the lock button? (We've all done things like that! - and it's worth starting with the basics). Anyway, try a mix without locking the tracks - perhaps that's the problem, and, as I say, there's no need.

  • Which midi keyboard you suggest to be used with Logic Pro?

I'm thinking of getting a midi keyboard to input notes rather than use my mouse to input it one by one > . < . Any suggestion. People say M-Audio is great? Which model u suggest?

It depends on what you want the keyboard for.
I recently purchased an M-Audio Oxygen 61 and love it. It has 61 keys (obviously...) with a good number of sliders and knobs. Nothing totally fancy, but it has a great feel to it. I think it ran me around $140-150? I could have gone a bit smaller, maybe a 49, for cheaper, but I like not having to switch the octaves when I'm doing work.
The Axiom Pro line has a very solid reputation, but it'll run a bit more moneys. There's a lot more to it and it has pads on it. Possibly a plus if you're looking for an all-in-one unit like that.
Akai MPK's are very nice, too. The 25 key is cheap enough to no break budget, but with only 25 keys, you may feel lacking. There's a LOT of banks for pads and control memory, so this is a plus. I wasn't very impressed with the pads on it when I used it for a week or so. Personal preference though....
Novation also has an incredibly high reputation, but they're up there in price with the Axiom Pro's. I imagine that goes down to preference as well.
In my opinion, you should determine what you plan to use it for. If all you want is a keyboard to make input easier/more expressive, something like the Oxygen will work great for you. There's enough control on it to suffice. If you're looking for MORE control, sort of a keyboard + pad + mixer, going more expensive will be your best bet.
I've always been an advocate of getting an external pad source, though. I just feel like the ones that I have played around with had a much better feel when on a standalone unit versus an all-in-one station.

  • Recording 2 MIDI keyboards

How do I record 2 MIDI keyboards playing at once in Logic 8?
For example, One keyboard a Piano instrument, and one an Organ Instrument.
I have refered to "Multiplayer recording" in the manual. Having "Auto Demix..." checked allows me to record each keyboard on a different track. When playing back the MIDI recording, one track plays back as piano and one as Organ. That is fine. However, while recording, the sound from both keyboards is of a mix of Organ and Piano. Or, if I select a track, for example, the Piano, both keyboards play as Piano. But will record as separate piano and organ. What am I doing wrong? I would like to hear one keyboard as Piano, and the other as Organ while recording also. Has anyone sucessfully setup something like this?
(keyboard in Port 1 set to MIDI 1, keyboard in Port 2 is set to MIDI 2. Track 1 is Piano Instrument, Track 2 is Organ Instrument.)

All of Logic's I/O, whether audio or MIDI, is handled through the environment, and "objects".
One type of object is an "Audio" object, and this can have a variety of types (Audio Track, Audio Instrument, Input, Output, Bus, Aux etc).
To use software instruments, you instantiate them on Audio Instrument objects. So for instance, you may have an EXS24 on Audio Instrument 3. You generally create an arrange track, which is set to play to Audio Instrument 3, in order to play and record with it. Or you can change which object assigned to an arrange track by command-clicking on the track name and selecting "Reassign track object" and choosing the new environmetn object assigned to that track.
In order to use the multlplayer record feature, you must set the MIDI channel on this Audio Instrument object.
So, select the track which is playing the Audio Instrument object you are using for your first instrument, and in the inspector/parameters, display the Audio Instrument objects parameters, and set the MIDI channel to 1 (it probably defaults to "All" ie it responds to events on any MIDI channel).
In the inspector/parameters, there are thre areas - the top is the MIDI region parameters, the middle section is the object parameters, and the lowest section is the channel strip. Open the middle section by clicking on the arrow to reveal the object parameters if they are not visible. These are the parameters for whichever object is assigned to your selcted track.
Change the MIDI channel accordingly, and do the same for the other audio instrument object on the other track you want to simultaneously record on.

  • How do I use my computer keyboard instead of a MIDI keyboard to enter notes? In Garage Band I simply go to View - musical typing but there is no such prompt in Logic Pro 7.

Ihave always used my Logic Pro 7 program with a MIDI keyboard for note entry. I do not presently have a MIDI keyboard and wish to use my computer keyboard for note entry. I know this is possible but cannot recall the command to set that up. Can anyone refresh my memory? I know that on Garageband on just need to go to view - musical typing but that is not the command in Logic Pro.

  • HT4106 How do I use a midi keyboard on GarageBand with my iPad? When I try it says the device cannot be used as it requires too much power.  However, I have given the midi it's own power source.

How do I use a midi keyboard as an input device on garageband? Its an oxygen 61 board.  I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a separate power source for the midi but each time it says it cannot use the midi as it requires too much power.

I have the same problem with my iPad and 61. Sometimes it says device not supported and sometimes it rants about power - any solutions anyone ?

    In Logic, yes.
I'm curious If I can run more than one midi application, is this possible?
Yes. you have to set up the Midi, pslit it up between the applications. e.g. channels 1-8 to app 1, and channels 9-16 to app 2.
Then select the channels according to what application you want to play.

  • IMac won't recognise USB MIDI keyboard in Audio MIDI Setup

I upgraded earlier in the week from a G4 eMac to a new Intel iMac. All appeared well until I tried to use my Evolution MK-361 USB midi keyboard from inside Logic. No midi events were coming through the system.
After some fiddling around I found the Audio MIDI Setup utility and the keyboard is not listed as a device in there. However, if I open System Profiler and select the USB information I can see that the keyboard is connected. According to the E-Magic web site this model of keyboard is class compliant and so shouldn't need a driver installed.
Originally I had the keyboard plugged into a USB hub. I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the machine with the cable plugged into different USB ports and different USB cables plugged into different USB ports. I've also downloaded all the latest OS / firmware / application updates and installed them.
I reconnected the keyboard to my old eMac and it shows up on there so I know it's not a fault in the keyboard itself.
The only other bits of gear connected to the machine are a Lacie external hard drive and my Saffire but these are firewire device so I wouldn't expect them to cause a problem (they certainly didn't on the eMac).
If anyone has any ideas I would seriously appreciate the help. As you can imagine I'm pretty gutted having forked out a grand for the machine.
    Cheers

    Hi Jon
So much for plug and play
    Yeah, it's great isn't it?
I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and apparently it's a known problem in 10.4.8 and they're waiting for a fix from Apple. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for OS updates and go rummaging under the stairs for a midi cable instead.
    Ho hum.
