Time Machine restore and now can't open application

Sorry if this is long but I'm not sure how much is relevant to the current problem. It all started when I received an email with a small excel file. The email would not finish downloading and the color wheel of death was spinning on mail and Safari. Eventually Safari came back to life but mail never did. I could not force quit mail so holding down the power button was the next step. Upon re-booting the screens were blue alternating between three shades. Trying over and over gave the same results. Booted into a different hard drive, opened Windows XP on Boot Camp and brought the email in with no problem. Checked it with McAffee and found no problems.
Went back to OX on a hard drive that was fine, used Disk Utilities and attempted to repair disk with no luck. Tried to re-install both 10.5 & 10.6 and neither would install. Erased the hard drive and tried again with no luck. Got a replacement hard drive 1T from Seagate, put in 10.5 DVD and in utilities chose restore from time machine. Went to a restore point a couple of hours before the problem started just to be safe. When restore was complete, about a hour for 350G, I rebooted as directed. The gray screen with the apple logo appeared then darkened and a message appeared directing to shut down using the power button. Several tries produced the same results. I then went to a different hard drive and opened applications for the problem hard drive. It appears the restore brought back everything but almost all application icons are grayed out with a slash across them, not third party stuff either but iTunes, Safari, System Preferences, Mail etc. When clicking on them I get the pop up "You can't open the application ____ because it is not supported on this type of Mac"
Many of the steps described have been tried over and over again with hopes of a different result (Yes, I know that is the definition of insanity). I have even repeatedly switched the hard drives to different bays wondering if it could be a hardware problem. So far I have over 20 hours invested in this problem so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is that the one in several languages? If so, that's a *kernel panic.* They're usually hardware, but not always. Disconnect everything, except keyboard and mouse. Reconnect one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.
If that's no help, disconnect everything again and run the Apple Hardware Test, from the separate disc that came with your Mac. Instructions should be printed on it (in very tiny type).

You lost me there. What is the "different hard drive"? A clone? Of the same Mac?
Which is the "problem hard drive," the replaced internal?

This almost sounds like you got PPC stuff restored onto an Intel, or vice-versa.

When I close Firefox (all tabs) and then reopen later, it does not offer the link to restore my prior tabs, it opens on a blank page, not even a home page v 9.0.1

I "upgraded"/ "updated" firefox to version 9.0.1, there are no newer updates offered. I used to be able to restore my prior session upon opening firefox the next time, now it doesn't even offer that link on the opening page. And it does not open a 'homepage' for firefox, just a blank page, with one empty tab/window, this is not an improvement

Try typing ''about:home'' into the address bar. Is that the page you are looking for? If so, go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and save it as your homepage. If that home page doesn't show up the next time you start Firefox, you should look at [[Preferences are not saved]].

The other day i deleted my email accounts off of my ipod and only reloaded a few of them. today i looked at my notes to look at a project i had typed on my notes because i didnt have paper and pen around to write it and i didnt want to froget. I reloaded the rest of my emails in hope that everything would reappear but sadly only some of them from 2010 loaded. Recently i had update some of the files and they were like they were when i first created them there were alos ones that i had deleted long ago. An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.

Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

Thanks for the update and clarification. In researching the issue it seems that the 2003 error code may have something to do with the USB connection. I would use this section of one of the above articles:
Get help with iOS update and restore errors
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you might not be able to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can try different equipment:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
Try a different computer.
Solve other issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you still see the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.

If you've forgotten the passcode to unlock the iPad then you will need to connect it to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

10.7.2 is required for full iCloud facilities, but you can still use your email. In theory you should be able to access your email in Mail at the same server settings, but this hasn't worked for everyone: you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:

Ok, I used to be able to open links up in a new Tab using my middle mouse button. However, I updated firefox with the automatic Updates on the 26th of October and now I no longer can open links with my middle mouse button. Why? I use this feature just about every time I go searching on the internet so I really would like it back. Iphone 6 touch ID did not working , then restored and it bricked

I'm very depressed now. My iphone 6 is not working. Touch ID didn't work so I restored and updated to 8.1.3 and it stuck at 50% and showed the error 53 then bricked . I bought it in New Zealand and I'm working in another country. What should I do now ?

IPhone 4 ear speaker not working after 2 restores and cleaning the headphone socket.

I know this problem is not uncommon, but here goes...
I have an iPhone 4 which was running iOS 5.1.1 a few days ago when the ear speaker stopped working. I cant hear the other person when I make or recieve a call, but nothing else is wrong with the phone. It is 18 months old.
I've searched the discussions and seen some of the suggestions. I tried cleaning out the headphone socket, with no luck. I then tried a full restore and update to iOS 6. This appeared to have worked. I tried 2 calls and I could hear the other person. I then left the phone alone for a couple of hours and when I tried it again, it had stopped working again.
I have since done another full restore but the speaker is still not working at all. The fact that it worked after the first restore suggests it's something simple or software related but I have no idea what else to try other than getting it repaired in a shop. The problem is I am in Japan where my network (Softbank) and an independent repair shop have both quoted me the equivalent of $176 / £110 to fix it.
Does anyone know anything else I can try before I give in and end up shelling out this ridiculous cost for something that is probably a 20 minute fix?

I have the exact same problem with my ear speaker after my IOS 6 upgrade. My speakers work, bluetooth works, the earphones work, but the ear speaker doesn’t work. I noticed this IMMEDIATELY after the upgrade was completed. I also have the following problems:
-Very slow call connect time. 30 - 45 seconds just to connect is typical. Signal strength is 5 bars (ATT)
-Problems attaching to known networks
-Very slow internet browsing with many timeouts on both the ATT 3G service and known Wi-Fi networks.
- My camera was missing after the IOS 6 upgrade. I restored that from Restrictions inside of the Settings App
- Music was so screwed up it was easier to just restore it
I went to the Apple store hoping to get some support. Between my wife, my son, and myself we have purchased 4 iPhones and an iPad over the last few years with plans to purchase another iPad in a month or so. So it’s not like I' not familiar with Apple Technology and their typical level of support.
The individual who waited on me was rude and condescending. He insisted that all of the problems were hardware related or ATT’s fault, or my fault. He further asserted that IOS 6 had NOTHING to do with any of the problems. I pointed out that it would be quite a coincidence for my hardware to break, for ATT to have network problems, and for me to suddenly forget how to use an iPhone at the same exact moment that IOS 6 had been installed. He maintained his position and offered to sell me another phone.
I don’t expect the folks in the store to reprogram the OS. Mistakes happen. I’m going to guess that Apple’s OS programmers are already working on a fix for many of the IOS 6 complaints that are easy to find on Google. Assigning blame to the customer and denying any responsibility is not a model for success or customer service. I’m sure Apple wouldn’t accept that kind of excuse from their component manufacturers and don’t think it is how they should deal with their customers. Further, Apple wants to own the device. They want to control the apps, the OS, battery, the delivery channel. I’m good with that so long as when there is a problem, they own that as well.
And BTW… I’m not including the maps in my list of issues with IOS 6 because I kind of like the new maps and am willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt. I believe that their map service will get a lot better in a hurry.
