GooGyum.A database cannot in general use indexes in this way for an 'or' involving two different columns. However, for this specific example one can easily rewrite the query using 'UNION' to use the relevant indexes while still giving the same (correct) result:

Hi, Im using an iPhone 4 8gb and recently updated my software using my computer to iOS 6.1.3 and some of the tabs are now grayed out and cant function (specific reference to "Show My Caller ID - On/Off tab"). is there a way to fix this or can i downgrade back to my default software?

Thanks for your response, I forgot to add that the five 3uk sims we have in use, I have tried all of them none of them are recongnised non of them have pin codes, I even purchased four more sims Tmobile (original carrier) Vodaphone, 3 and giffgaff. -
The projector recognizes it's a mac, since I see the mac desktop background on my screen when I connect, but I'm not seeing my desktop. Any ideas?
Thanks!ugh...i'll be sure to let you know...i'm beginning to regret buyin a mac now...one usually spends the bucks most of have dropped for a premium machine, to actually work. I don't expect every aspect to be perfect, but simple things such as functionality of applications developed for and by the same company making the machines should work...maybe its just because i'm more than a little peeved that i'm going through such trouble to do something as simple as put two pictures next to each other and upload the site (as it appears in iweb) on to the mobileme...
I finally got it to upload, thanks Old Toad, and i got the pictures to upload...now they just don't appear next to each other as they do in iweb...i guess the good thing is that they are no longer covering text...
now i'm presented with a second problem...i add a second entry to my blog and when i click on that directly i'm taken to a page saying it is not found...but when i go to the first entry and click next it takes me to the second entry page...although that page is ALMOST correct (the links do not have the same styling i applied to them in iweb)...
and now i'm presented with a third problem...after adding the second entry i noticed on the blog listing page that my photo from the first entry did not move with it (another photo covering text problem)...so i tried using the graphic placeholder, but the image still does not show up on the main page... -
For some reason my adobe flash player will not load or reinstall. I keep getting a screen from adobe that says quit or intall but there is no button for the install to push. Only the quit is useable. I want to be able to view video but can't. Does this have to do with Firefox 4? I have deleted multiple unable to be downloaded installs or misinstalls of adobe flash player. Help!

3 year old iMac 24 running OS 10.7.4. After it has been on for a day or so, it stops going to sleep and becomes very slow. This only happens when Safari is running. Quitting Safari solves the problem. Has anyone else have the same problem? Does not happen on MacBookpro only on iMac.

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts? -
Four-year-old iMac and Mountain Lion
My wife has a four-year-old iMac that has been horrendously slow for the last couple of years. This has been true with nearly all the programs, but especially Word for Mac and Outlook (both part of Microsoft Office for Mac) -- even when only three or four programs are open at a time. Click Outlook, for example, and you can wait a minute and half for it to open while it checks identities.
I just upgraded the machine to Mountain Lion hoping that might solve some problems but the situation is even worse now. She clicked on Message last night as I was standing there and I finally gave up waiting and walked away. Frankly, the speed of the machine under both Lion and now, worse, Mountain Lion is driving us crazy.
So, what to do?
Should I be doing some sort of in-depth analysis of the the current machine? (A little background: three months after buying it, it had a problem and Apple Service ended up replacing the screen and the motherboard.)
Or should I just buy a new iMac and forget about this machine ever being fast enough?

DonYour computer is on the very low end of systems which are supported by Mountain Lion. Anything newer than Snow Leopard will likely hurt performance rather than help it.
When your computer is freezing up, it is probably loading data from the disk into RAM. You can't put any more RAM into the machine, but you can have the hard drive upgraded to an SSD. That's quite a bit of money to pour into a five-year-old machine, but it's a lot cheaper than getting a new computer.
One other option is to back up your files, wipe everything, and start over. Install the applications one at a time until things start to slow down. You may have an application that is sitting in the background and using up system resources. -

How can I unlock the Recovery HD on my 4-5 year old iMac? Below are the steps I have gone through.
Just about when the extra extended warranty was about to run out the iMac Superdrive quit. I thought I had a few months left of extended warranty but I did not!
Last week this iMac was running slow, pages would take forever to load.
I decided to put as many of my files on an external hard drive.
Then I rebooted holding down the command and R key opening Disk Utility and secure erase my hard drive. This took a few hours.
After this was completed I got out of Disk Utilities and went above and clicked on Reinstall OS X which was OS X Mountain Lion clicked continue, clicked agree before installing OS X Mountain Lion. Now this window came up "OS X Mountain Lion select the disk where you want to install OS X.
Recovery HD 650 MB total. 155.5 ava or Macintosh HD 319.21 GB total.318.79 GB. Then I noticed that only the Macintosh HD was my install choice because the Recovery HD was paled out and I could not click on it.
When I did click on the paled out Recovery HD it would tel me that "This Disk is Locked".
Now I clicked on Macintosh HD and pressed install, now I put in my Apple ID and Password and pressed Sign In.
Then a window appeared "This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later. Well, I must have done this at least ten times.
I phoned Apple and they told me that this Mac OS X Mountain Lion is no longer available in the Apps Store.
I should click on the Recovery HD icon and install. This is where it reads "This disk is locked."
I would really like to use this iMac.
Any ideas?

I just rebooted holding the Command + Option + R, erased Macintosh HD.
Below is what I see on the Disk Utility after the erase.

CheersI also have a 4 year old iMac 24". it is the 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I have been running Mountain Lion since it was released, and before that Lion. Runs great. Over the last month I have noticed some slow data transfers from a USB harddrive. But not enough to do any research. I use a USB harddrive for my Time Machine backup and notice no problems or slow transfers while the Time Machine backup runs. My iTunes has its nedia files on a USB harddrive and is used to watch videos, play music and share photos on the AppleTV. I also use Aperture on the iMac to store and manage 20,000 photos.
I have 6 GB of ram, 4GB and 2GB memory sticks. I know it is best to have identical ram sticks but my iMac model cannot run 8GB of ram and I feel 6GB is better than 4GB.
Mountain Lion is a great OS and I am glad I upgraded. It works great with the AppleTV (no airplay but iTunes on the iMac serves up all our music, photos and videos), iPhone, and iPod Touch. Also with my wifes brand new Macbook Pro. All the devices including the iMac can share data on iCloud. -
Flash Player won't start on a 4 year old iMac with Maverick

I switched to Maverick on my 4 year old iMac. At first the program Maverick slowed down te activity speed. After changing datafiles to an external drive it works oké now. No problems untill now.
Recent I needed Adobe Flash Player, which is downloaded in the most recent version on my iMac, for starting a program for showing results. The program doesn't start, I had to download the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player.
No result - Testing - downloading - removing cookies - restarting - downloading and installing again, etc.
Testing the Flash Player on YouTube the problem results in the same problem.
The software on my iMac is up to date.
Has anybody the solution to solve this ?

Press the "Delete All" button
Install Adobe Flash Player.

What Mac OS are you running?
See if any of these items apply:
1) Are you running any anti-virus/internet security applications?
2) Are you running any "cleaning/tune-up/optimizations" applications?
3) Any peer-to-peer or torrent downloading software?
4) Any third-party disk backup software that came bundled with an external hard drive?
5) Any online backup scheme other than iCloud (Carbonite; GoogleDrive; MS One Drive)?
6) Did your financial institution ask you to install Trusteer EndPoint Protection (also known as Trusteer Rapport)?
An overly full hard drive can slow things down, too, especially in a computer with only 2GB RAM. -
We have a 4 year old iMac 24 inch. The hard drive died and we had a new hard drive installed. They only installed the Snow Leopard OS on it, and there were many software programs that came with the iMac originally.. now missing. Does anyone know whether Apple will resupply these? I do have an Apple installation disc but have upgraded from the original Leopard to Snow Leopard... so the OS is not quite the same. Ideas? Thanks!
No bootable bakup/clone or Time Machine backup? No initial install discs? If no to both of those, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and request replacement discs for that machine. They're available for a nominal S&H charge.

Since I installed iOS 7 my iPhone has been showing Invalid SIM. Any way to solve this?
I installed the iOS 7 update last night and since the phone rebooted after install it has had the message Invalid SIM
I've tried checking the SIM and resetting network settings. Anyone had a similar problem? Got a solution?I also had 'invalid sim' when i upgraded to IOS7. My phone is almost two years old and worked fine with the sim until now. I upgraded the IOS in my ipad mini first and that worked fine. I rang my provider Orange/EE and after trying various resets and restores they said they will send me a new sim to see if that works. I'm about to go on a short trip so this problem is a real pain as can't make or receive calls or texts using it. I suggest you ask for a new sim too, but i am yet to see if that fixes it.

My MacBook Pro is not recognizing my external hard drive. The hard drive is listed in disk utilities but an icon does not pop up and I cannot access the data. Is there any way to resolve this?
WE know Disk Warrior is more reliable, hence more useful, and should be in any disk mechanics toolchest.
For the record, I don't know anything of the kind. I have yet to see evidence that Disk Warrior is useful at all.
What I do know is that you seem to take every opportunity you get to promote it in these forums. Do you work for Alsoft?
Let me be a little more explicit. My opinion is that Disk Warrior is a waste of money if one has backups. If a journaled HFS directory is so badly corrupted that it can't be repaired by Disk Utility, then the volume should be reformatted and restored from backup, which has the same effect as running DW, but is probably faster and doesn't cost $99. -
