My monitor is an HP w1907. It suddenly goes dark.

If i turn it off and back on it goes dark again. If I wait for say 1 hour it comes back on for a while.
Is this failing and should be replaced?

Can you test another monitor and/or this monitor at another pc?
If the behaviour follows the monitor then it seems like it's going to die.

  • Monitor suddenly goes dark

My monitor has recently started suddenly going dark.  I get a little blue box that says "No signal, analog" and then the computer keeps running but the monitor won't come back on till I shut down and disconnect the power cord 2 or 3 times. This happens in Safari, Firefox, and Logic.  It may happen in other apps but those are the ones I use most frequently.
My computer is a 2007 Mac Pro dual core intel xeon.  The graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1900 XT.  The display is a VX2255.
    Tanks,
    Jon

I get a little blue box that says "No signal, analog"
That message comes directly from your display, not from the Mac.
Consider replacing your aging graphics card with an Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250. It works in every model Mac Pro and drivers are in 10.6.5 and later.

  • My hp 2338h monitor come on for two second and goes dark black

Every time I turn my monitor on it works for about 1 to 2 seconds and goes dark I think I can see outlined in black the windows OS. how can I lighten it up so I can see it.

I am having the same problem with my hp w2338h monitor and was wondering if you found the solution to your problem? The only difference is I cannot see the image you are talking about on your monitor, my just stays black. Any luck on corecting the problem on your on or with some help? Thank you for your time.

  • Display suddenly goes dark

    Hi everyone,
I've had my iMac for 8 months, I use it every day but not all day, I turn it on about 2 or 3 times a day for about 30-60 minutes at a time, though occasionally I will use it for longer periods at a stretch.
For the past couple weeks, the screen will suddenly go dark, like it's going to sleep. If I tap the keyboard, it wakes up, and at first I thought this was due to the display going to sleep, but I have it (both the display and the computer) set to sleep after 15 minutes, and it's happening sometimes if I only keep my hands off the keyboard of mouse for a minute. Should I take my computer into the Apple store? I didn't buy AppleCare but it's only 8 months old, and this doesn't seem like a usual problem, I couldn't find any other posts on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Lizzy

my Macbook (with all the latest updates) is doing this daily as well. usually when i am working on something like excel or entourage just happened again when i was in excel. touch the tracking pad and it comes right back. the darkness is like when it is going into sleep mode even though it is no where near sleep mode as i'm actively using it.

  • My files are suddenly going dark after certain operations?

Last week a very strange (and new) thing began to happen.  If I have multiple files open in tabbed viewing and I perform certain operations on any one of the open files, all of the open files suddenly darken considerably.  It looks as though I had created a new top layer, filled it with black and then adjusted the opacity slider for that layer to around 40 or 45%.  As I said, that immediately happens to all open files.
Many different operations have made this occur, but the 2 that will do it every time are either converting to a new color profile for one of the files or dragging one of the files down out of the tabbed linep so that I can grab a layer from that file and copy it to another file.  In that case the darkening occurs as soon as I drag the file down from the tabbed lineup -- not when I copy the layer.
Here is where it gets interesting.  If I save these new (appearing much too dark) files and close and then reopen Photoshop and then reopen those files which a moment ago had looked much too dark, they look fine.  And they continue to look fine until I do something which again causes every open file to appear as if a 45% black layer had been droped on top of it.  There has not been a Photoshop session in the past week where I did not do something (though I have not loggged all of the things which will make this happen) to bring about this problem.  If all I'm doing is resizing or copying layers, it's not much of an issue because I now know that the files which look way too dark will be fine the next time I restart Photoshop, but it's changed my workflow since I now need to think ahead and try to finish all of my color critical work before doing anything I think MIGHT cause the problem to occur.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before?
I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended on a Dell Workstation running XP Professional (32 bit) and consider myself to be above average -- though by no means an expert -- in terms of Photoshop literacy.
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a REAL longshot, but it sounds as though maybe an OpenGL shader to do gamma conversion isn't working.  I say this because the symptom sounds quite similar to something I saw when I was implementing my own shaders in my software.
Since OpenGL is implemented on your GPU hardware by your video driver, is your video driver up to date from the web site of the maker of the video card?

Hi, firetiger.... i have the EXACT same problem!!! i have the same Macbook aluminum unibody screen also. I have no idea how to fix it. I'm also out of warranty and i've tried everything... resetting the pram, trying to restart in safe mode, trying to boot from a cd... .NOTHING WORKS!!! i can still control brightness itself but ive never tried attaching to an external monitor. I know everything is loaded correctly... i just don't know whats wrong. If you have any ideas.. please let me know. Also, I think apple will fix the macbook pros with a similar issue for free http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 but i know this doesnt apply for me. hopefully they work something out because I really love that computer!!!

  • PMG5 suddenly goes to sleep (When using Toaster Titanium)

Since yesterday my dual g5 2*2,7 have developed a new problem.
Im trying to toast a dvd for my sister as a x-mas gift, but whenever I start the encoding process the computer after a few minutes suddenly goes into sleepmode without warning. Im suspecting some sort of heating problem because if I wake it up shorty after it goes down in sleepmode again a lot faster than if I wait for a while. Any tips on how to verify any heatproblems? leaks maybe?

  • G3 freezes and monitor goes dark

I have been experiencing the following scenario with increasing frequency (at least twice yesterday, and four times today)--
The monitor will suddenly go dark, as though the system were going to sleep--except that no keyboard or mouse action will wake it up again. Sometimes it will recognize the power key followed by return or enter, and shut down. Most of the time, though, it will only recognize CmdCtrlpower key to reboot.
After forcing a reboot, the video comes back. However, I have also been noticing lately that the "Waiting for local disks" phase of startup has been taking significantly longer than before (usually flashes right by, but now stays there for probably 30 seconds or more).
Any ideas as to what might be causing these video blackouts? Might the elongated "Waiting for local disks" be a related symptom?
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Thanks Frank,
I actually came across that same post not long after I posted this question. Guess I hadn't used the right keywords in my search to find it (or get it to stand out among all the false hits). Anyway, I followed the referenced fix procedure, and things seem to be working now. Even the prolonged "Waiting for local disks" phase has gone away since applying the fix.
    Thanks again,
    Pete

  • Why does my Mac screen suddenly go dark? Sometimes it stays dark for an indefinite period after waking up from sleep.

Why does my Mac screen suddenly go dark? Sometimes it stays dark for an indefinite period after waking up from sleep. I have to open and shut the monitor screen to get it to light up again.

Might try posting in the MacBook Pro laptop forum. This is the Mac Pro desktop forum.

  • Monitor goes dark on 2008 Mac Pro Tower with ATI Radeon 5870 Card

I have a 2008 Quad Core Intel Mac Pro Tower running 10.6.8.
The original graphics card had trouble with HD movies of any kind and eventually my screen would sometimes not turn on (stayed black) when the computer was turned on.
So I replaced the graphics card for both reasons to a ATI Radeon 5870 PCIe with a GB rather than the 256 that came with the machine.
The problem was solved. I got a new monitor, one that is like the latest ones and all has been working great for a few years.
Then recently the monitor started going dark while the computer was on. (no screen saver or anything like that, I can be in the middle of work on a photo or video).
    Trouble shooting I have tried.
A forum said drag the mouse to the hot corner for a while and then back. Well, I tried, assuming I was dragging the mouse to the corner. Didn't work.
I tried using the keyboard commands to shut down the computer. It didn't work.
I tried plugging the keyboard into other USB ports and tried to shut down the computer. No luck.
The only thing that works is shutting down the computer with the power button.
on start up the monitor is back on.
Sometimes it works for days like this, other times the monitor stays on only minutes.
The monitor is fine. Tested my old monitor on the computer to make sure it wasn't my new monitor.
    So the questions are:
    Can it be over heating?
is it worn out, toast, done and or dead and dieing?
Should I buy a replacement graphics card VS finally upgrading and getting a new computer (lots of $$$$ but then I do work in HD Video so....)
    any help is appreciated
    thanks
    john

Replacing FBDIMMs would be today inexpensive and worth doing.
No one knows if heat is an issue without your using thermal sensor monitor. Probably want to up the default fan speeds while at it.
And because you don't have Lion+ then even more reason to setup a small maintenace volume on another drive with OS X basic system for repairs. In fact you should always have a bootable backup or two  you can rely on.
Restarting may work, or it  may be you have now new issue with corrupt fies or directory that a safe boot even is no guarantee of fixing.
When in doubt, try a clean new OS install on another drive.
    And FBDIMMs: $25 for a 2x2GB set on Amazon.com
You want to get  the most out of what  you have, a small investment  in RAM,  maybe recycle those drives for 2-4TB units. And an SSD will have system responding better and perform better.
My guess, the 5870 wasn't needed and was overkill and a 5770 for almost  half would have been more than adequate.

without more information, I assume you mean a blackout from sleep issue.
Go to system preferences > energy settings > raise the "turn display off" setting up to as needed, say 5 mins. or 10 mins.
    AND ...
unchecked the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both the battery and power adapter tabs.
    test it and check back

  • 20"iMac Display Suddenly Goes Black

While I am using my iMac, occasionally suddenly goes black. If I hit a key (usually the space bar), it comes back as if I had put it to sleep.
What is happening? What should be done? What can I do?
Thanks for your help and information.

    "Answered on another forum"
What a way to be helpful! I went through your posts and searched "display" and I did not find this mysterious answer you talk about.
I'm having the same issues on my Intel Core 2 Duo 20" iMac. if ANYONE could post a solution, I'd appreciate it.
The computer is still working correctly. It is not on sleep mode. I've press the power button and it goes to sleep, but then when I wake it up it repeats the black screen a couple of times until it finally settles on letting me work.

  • Apart from the lock button problem in iphone 5 the display brightness suddenly goes blank and becomes normal after locking and unlocking the iphone. The Apple service centre in India is denying to service the iphone as it was purchase in USA even thoug it

Apart from the lock button problem in iphone 5 the display brightness suddenly goes blank and becomes normal after locking and unlocking the iphone. The Apple service centre in India is denying to service the iphone as it was purchase in USA even though the iphone is in warranty.

iPhones do not have an international warranty.  Warranty is valid only for the country of purchase.  This is most likely because different countries require different iPhone models.  Not reasonable to expect all countries to maintain stock for all models.

  • My Xray's battery suddenly goes to 2% then O% and turned off, It's not charging so I can't open it.

My Xray's battery suddenly goes to 2% then O% and turned off, It's not charging and I can't open it.  What could be the problem.

Try to connect the charger (long time) and turn on the phone.
When fully discharged battery, it takes a long time before it starts charging.
Do not discharge at the battery completely !
Attention to high temperatures (sun, car, etc)
If that does not work try another battery or charger.
